Blender 3D Architecture, Buildings, and Scenery: Create photorealistic 3D architectural visualizations of buildings, interiors, and environmental scenery
Publisher: Packt Publishing | 2008 | ISBN: 1847193676 | Pages: 332 | PDF | 13,36 MB

This book will show you how to create realistic architectural models in Blender. Blender is an open-source 3D animation program released as free software. It can be used for modeling, texturing, skinning, animating, and so on. It runs on all the important operating systems (including Windows, Mac, and Linux).

You can create natural scenery, landscapes, plants, various weather conditions, environmental factors, building materials such as wood, metal, brick, and more. You will also learn how to add people to different scenes as well as other objects to an already existing photograph or a video making it easier to increase its realism.

You will see how to use the final models to create simpler scenes for use in 3D games, where real-time rendering is necessary. You will also see how to use them to create the sets for animated movies.

William T. Segui, "Steel Design, 4 edition"
CL-Engineering | 2006 | ISBN: 0495244716 | 704 pages | PDF | 16,7 MB

Steel Design covers the fundamentals of structural steel design with an emphasis on the design of members and their connections, rather than the integrated design of buildings. Not only is Steel Design a revision of LRFD Steel Design, it also encompasses the 2005 unification of LRFD and ASD as is covered in the Steel Construction Manual. The book is designed so that instructors can easily teach either LRFD or ASD, or both, time-permitting, as the differences in the two approaches are mostly conceptual. The application of fundamental principles is encouraged for design procedures as well as for practical design, but so is a theoretical approach, enhancing the students development. While the book is intended for junior-and senior-level engineering students, some of the later chapters can be used in graduate courses. Due to the changes that were made to many provisions of the Steel Construction Manual, practicing engineers will find this text useful in reviewing current practices and it will be an essential reference tool.

Adapting Buildings and Cities for Climate Change: A 21st Century Survival Guide
Publisher: Architectural Press | ISBN: 0750659114 | edition 2005 | PDF | 384 pages | 5,6 mb

The book is based on the premise that climate change is going to happen and its impacts on our lives are going to be far worse than generally expected. Sue Roaf argues that many modern buildings are not only 'unsustainable' in themselves but are also having a catastrophic effect on the global climate. In a unique argument, she illustrates that the only way we can hope to survive the following century in tact is if we not only begin to radically reduce CO2 emissions from our buildings and stop building climatically disastrous building types but also build only the buildings that can survive in the changed climates of the future.

Peter Guillery, "Built from Below: British Architecture and the Vernacular"
R..tledge | 2010 | ISBN: 0415565332, 0415565324 | 224 pages | PDF | 6,2 MB

This book extends the concept of British vernacular architecture beyond its traditional base of pre-modern domestic and industrial architecture to embrace other buildings such as places of worship, villas, hospitals, suburban semis and post-war mass housing. Engaging with wider issues of social and cultural history, this book is of use to anyone with an interest in architectural history.

Presented in an essentially chronological sequence, from the medieval to the post-war, diverse fresh viewpoints in the chapters of this book reinforce understanding of how building design emerges not just from individual agency, that is architects, but also from the collective traditions of society.

Basil Sawczuk, "Marketing and Selling Professional Services in Architecture and Construction"
Wiley-Blackwell | 2009 | ISBN: 1405181877 | 288 pages | PDF | 1,1 MB

This practical book on selling and marketing will help architects, engineers, project managers, facilities managers, surveyors, and contractors ‘sell’ themselves to prospective clients.

As clients become more sophisticated at both local and international level, and as competition in the construction industry increases, both contractors and consultants have to take a more professional approach to selling themselves. This is especially true for PFI bids where vast resources are committed to winning multi-million pound contracts.

Through a simple-to-follow process, illustrated with plenty of diagrams and checklists, Marketing & Selling Professional Services in Architecture & Construction sets out the seven key aspects of selling and marketing professional services. It is full of applicable ideas and examples and is well structured to enable readers to dip into the section relevant to their current needs.

Bungale S. Taranath, "Reinforced Concrete Design of Tall Buildings"
CRC Press | 2009 | ISBN: 143980480X | 1024 pages | PDF | 31,5 MB

An exploration of the world of concrete as it applies to the construction of buildings, Reinforced Concrete Design of Tall Buildings provides a practical perspective on all aspects of reinforced concrete used in the design of structures, with particular focus on tall and ultra-tall buildings. Written by Dr. Bungale S. Taranath, this work explains the fundamental principles and state-of-the-art technologies required to build vertical structures as sound as they are eloquent. Dozens of cases studies of tall buildings throughout the world, many designed by Dr. Taranath, provide in-depth insight on why and how specific structural system choices are made.

The book bridges the gap between two approaches: one based on intuitive skills and experience and the other based on computer skills and analytical techniques. Examining the results when experiential intuition marries unfathomable precision, this book discusses:

The latest building codes, including ASCE/SEI 7-05, IBC-06/09, ACI 318-05/08, and ASCE/SEI 41-06 Recent developments in studies of seismic vulnerability and retrofit design Earthquake hazard mitigation technology, including seismic base isolation, passive energy dissipation, and damping systems Lateral bracing concepts and gravity-resisting systems Performance based design trends Dynamic response spectrum and equivalent lateral load procedures

Using realistic examples throughout, Dr. Taranath shows how to create sound, cost-efficient high rise structures. His lucid and thorough explanations provide the tools required to derive systems that gracefully resist the battering forces of nature while addressing the specific needs of building owners, developers, and architects. The book is packed with broad-ranging material from fundamental principles to the state-of-the-art technologies and includes techniques thoroughly developed to be highly adaptable. Offering complete guidance, instructive examples, and color illustrations, the author develops several approaches for designing tall buildings. He demonstrates the benefits of blending imaginative problem solving and rational analysis for creating better structural systems.
Concrete folded plate roofs used to cover large open expanses of space can pose complex design problems soluble only through detailed mathematical analysis. This book introduces the engineer to practical schemes and practicalities, and goes on to provide multitudes of useful design tables, which allow linear interpolation, for a large range of various schemes of folded plate roofs to help the engineer with his designs. Design examples using both SI and USA (British Imperial) units are provided using these tables.

Martin Brook, "Estimating and Tendering for Construction Work, 3 Ed"
Butterworth-Heinemann | 2004 | ISBN: 0750658649 | 328 pages | PDF | 1,8 MB

The job of the estimator is explained in detail at every key stage, from early cost studies, through the preparation of the estimate, to the creation of budgets for successful tenders. Each step is illustrated with examples and notes, and appropriate technical documentation.

Over recent years there have been significant developments in construction management, notably new procurement methods, greater emphasis on innovation and partnering, a greater reliance on cost planning as a methodology, and new developments in both industry and governmental reports and guidance.

This new and updated edition of a well-established textbook addresses each of these developments in turn, placing them firmly in the context of a thorough and easy to understand introduction to the roles of the estimator in preparing and winning tenders.

Practical approach to estimating from the contractor's point of view
Fully up-to-date with new procurement methods
This title of AD heralds a new era of exuberance in digital design. Having overcome the alienation and otherness of the cyber, having mastered the virtual qualities and protocols of the parametric, having achieved the intricacy and elegance of the digital, and having fully embraced the potential of 3d computer software and cad/cam manufacturing technologies, it is now time for architects to show off!

Conjure up the extravagance of furniture design, the abundance of cgi in Hollywood, the profuseness of bio-techno ornamentation or the lavishness of Middle-Eastern and Asian super-urbanism. Exuberance not only celebrates new Baroque theatricality, formal sophistication and digital virtuosity; it also debates a plethora of joyful and intelligent ways in which experimental architecture manages to cope with the contemporary turmoil in global politics, economics and ecology.
An organisation’s competitive advantage lies in the knowledge of its employees and the organisation’s ability to harness that knowledge to meet business objectives. Knowledge management is recognised in the construction industry as a potential tool for providing organisational benefits, but for a number of reasons – particularly the project based nature of construction, where teams are transient, multidisciplinary and often from different organisations – implementation has been only marginally successful.

Capture and Reuse of Project Knowledge in Construction describes a methodology for the 'live' capture of reusable project knowledge that reflects both the organisational and human dimensions of knowledge capture and reuse, as well as exploiting the benefits of technology. This methodology was developed in response to the shortcomings of current practices in managing project knowledge, the benefits offered by capturing and sharing knowledge immediately after it is generated, and the organisational benefit of reusing knowledge within a project based environment.
Building Law Encyclopaedia is a concise and authoritative reference, pring information in reasonable depth on an extensive number of legal terms, principles, phrases and issues that are commonly encountered in the construction industry. Most standard contracts are referred to, including the current suite of JCT Contracts, SBC, IC, ICD, MW, MWD, as well as ACA, PPC 2000, GC/Works/1 and NEC. In addition, some contracts which are theoretically out of date, but which are still in common use, are also covered.

With over 1050 entries and numerous cross references, it will be an invaluable reference for architects, quantity surveyors, project managers and contractors. With detailed reference to appropriate case law and legislation, construction lawyers will also find it of considerable value in the course of their work.
Mount Desert has been one of America's favorite tourist destinations for over 150 years. As early as the 1840s, the lush landscape of this island on the Maine coast attracted artists and writers, who soon made Mount Desert's beauty famous with their paintings and publications. The stream of tourists that began traveling to the island after the Civil War prompted a building boom of cottages, hotels, and various buildings in Bar Harbor and other towns in the vicinity. Fred Savage (1861–1924) was the most influential architect in the development of Mount Desert and northeastern Maine, designing over three hundred buildings. Richly illustrated with archival drawings, photographs, and newly commissioned color photography, Maine Cottages presents all of Savage's most important works while placing the life and career of this architect in the larger context ofMount Desert.
Department for Transportation | Thomas Telford, Ltd. | March 26, 2007 | English | ISBN-10: 0727735012 | 146 pages | PDF | 4,67 MB

The main aim of this guide is to facilitate the creation of streets that promote greater social interaction and enjoyment while still performing successfully as conduits for movement. It is to be used predominantly for the design, construction, adoption and maintenance of new residential streets, but it is also applicable to existing residential streets that are subject to re-design. This new manual gives clear guidance on how to achieve well-designed streets and spaces that serve the community. It demonstrates the benefits that flow from good design and places a higher priority on pedestrians and cyclists. It challenges some established working practices and standards and encourages new ways of thinking in relation to creating successful neighbourhoods. It stresses the need for a fundamental culture change in the way streets are designed and adopted, including a more collaborative approach between the design professions and other stakeholders.
