Malam Nasir Elrufai, the pint sized former minister of the FCT and now CPC Chieftain who was a recipient of President Jonathan's sympathy when he lost his daughter last year has turned around to pay the President back in evil coin by mocking his wife's return and spreading lies about the First Lady.

In a note he put on his Facebook page ((https://www.facebook.com/nasirelrufai, Elrufai published claims that the First Lady completely ignored thousands of PDP women well wishers who had trooped to the airport to welcome the First Lady. The note claimed that "Mrs. Jonathan was eased into the official vehicle from the plane. She neither waved, acknowledged, nor addressed the hundreds of well-wishers waiting for her".

However, the First Lady was shown on television waving to well wishers and acknowledging greetings. She also gave an interview to newsmen. So where did Elrufai got the false information he has been spreading?

Manager Tom Murphy insisted he tried to put a stop to the couple's fun the moment he realised what was going on.

According to police he told the couple: 'Compose yourself, pay your tab or I'll call the police.' That was when Calo claimed his friend could not 'get up.'

Passers-by told America's Local 6 news they were appalled parents and children had to endure the scenes.

It’s a different story for the Igbo woman. She comes from a long line of ‘unruly’ people who traditionally have no concept of a central authority figure. Prepare to be stared down eyeball to eyeball in an argument.

Prepare to be laughed at when you attempt to assert yourself as the ‘man of the house.’ When she’s done laughing, she’ll measure you, up and down with her left, and sneer: ‘Hian! See this one o; who do you think you’re talking to?’ She’ll clap and shake her head, then she’ll add something in Igbo and then saunter away, wriggling her backside. It isn’t for nothing that the legendary Aba Womens’ Riot happened in…ABA.

2. Prepare to be Called Names: No, I am not referring to endearing (more like puke-inducing, actually) names like Baby, Darling, or Nkem. I’m talking about names that qualify your lineage and ethnicity in terms that are not exactly complimentary. If you are Yoruba, you and your people will be Ndi ofe mmanu (something about too much oil in your soup and fried things in your life); If you are a Northerner, you and your people will be Ndi beribe (something about possessing a mumu gene). Find solace in the fact that if you are truly Yoruba, you ‘know’ that Igbo people use kick to wake their mothers up from the mat in the morning.

3. Say Goodbye to your Waistline: Your waistline will increase in proportion to the years you spend with an Igbo woman who knows the well-beaten path to her mother’s kitchen. Gone are your days of adding stew to ewedu and okro, or eating egusi soup that was blended with tomatoes. Tufiakwa! The introduction of Ofe Akwu, Nsala, Oha, Onugbu, Ofe Owerri and Oporoko will ensure that when you sit, you fill up the chair.

That’s what is called a man, a DIMGBA! Not one that looks like something some hungry wind blew in. When the husband of an Igbo woman stands, people must see that a man is standing. Size matters. Don’t be deceived by the looks of people like Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and that six-pack nonsense; he’s not a proper Igbo man. Look more at people like his elder brother Ugo or imagine Noble Igwe a few years after marriage; now, those are real Igbo men! Size matters to an Igbo woman.

4. Be Aware of the Oriaku Syndrome: You have not heard of the Oriaku Syndrome? Don’t worry, I will tell you. You see, when you marry an Igbo woman, you work for her. Your glory comes from seeing her shine. When she steps out, people must SEE your money on her body. If your wife looks like the dried fish she uses in cooking your soup, you are not a man! If she’s dressed like something that was sent to Lagos along with discarded wares, you have failed in your duties!

The Oriaku Syndrome posits that your wife is the chopper of your money, simple. Don’t take this to mean that you are her provider and therefore she isn’t independent. When the Igbo man was planting yam, the Igbo woman was planting and harvesting cocoyam, and as every Igbo household can testify, the cocoyam is more useful than yam. Yam is only the king crop because the Igbo society, like others, is phallocentric. Don’t get it twisted.

5. Beware of the Illuminati: Do not marry any Igbo woman that is the first daughter of her father. All first daughters in Igboland are members of the real Illuminati. They sometimes call it by another name: Umuada. They are the most powerful group in Igboland and can do and undo. No one uses small spoon to measure their food. If you marry one and misbehave and she reports you, you are doomed.

Even when you don’t marry one, you are still doomed if your wife ever reports you to them. They may decide that all the first daughters from her village will come and live in your house for a month. You may wish to consider suicide if that ever happens to you. It is the Igbo woman who has forgotten the path to her father’s house that suffers in a man’s house when she has the Umuada waiting.

6. The Catholic Church Intervention: When an Igbo woman is tired of you and your nonsense, she’ll simply pack her bag and return to her father’s house. If you do not run after her and collect your bride price back from her father, whatever child she bears anywhere she goes will bear your name.

Yes, I’m serious. This is why there are no bastards in Igboland. But thank God for the Catholic Church, this doesn’t happen often. The average Igbo woman is Catholic and the Catholic Church has issues with divorce. Be smart: if you’re going to marry an Igbo woman, marry one who is a Catholic; it reduces her chances of leaving you by about 50%.

You may wish to ask why none of the above is often the case when an Igbo woman marries an Igbo man… well, I don’t know. Perhaps the Igbo man knows how to be ‘oga’ over the Igbo woman and has refused to share the secret with aliens.

Anyways, is your couch free for the night? Surely there’s no way I’m going home to that woman tonight after all this…

LIFE has always proved to be a paradox; when many millionaires are running from pillar to post asking God for even a child, many others term theirs unwanted and most often get rid of them by all means. Such can be said to have been the case with a 19-year-old lady, Nsidibe Sunday Effiong, in Akwa Ibom State, who out of frustration strangled her three-week-old baby and dumped her in a pit toilet.

Nsidibe, who hails from Ikot Abasi Idem Village in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, was arrested and paraded at the Ikot Akpan, Abia headquarters of the Akwa Ibom state police command recently for the crime which she admitted to during interrogation. Narrating her story to Crime Features, Nsidibe who was paraded alongside other crime suspects by the police command lamented that she dropped out of school while she was in Junior Secondary School 3, (JSS3) when she was pregnant with her first baby.

She said her mother merely tolerated her. They faced untold hardship as the man who was responsible for her pregnancy had abandoned her and the baby and life became miserable for her when she got pregnant for another man less than one year after her first child.

According to her, what drove her into taking such a drastic action was when the young man who impregnated her the second time fled the community and it became extremely impossible for her to take care of the two babies all alone. “I could not even pay for a room I rented and my mother was suffering so much to feed me and my first child.

Before I even gave birth to the second one, the man who was responsible for the pregnancy, a barbing salon attendant, was nowhere to be found, and my mother threatened to throw me and the babies out of the house.

“When I gave birth to the second one, life became so difficult, that was why I decided that instead of punishing my mother, let me throw the baby away. So, I used towel to tie the baby’s neck and put her in the toilet,” she narrated. Findings by this writer revealed that the teenage girl was not getting proper care after she dropped out of school and that she had rented a room in Ibesipo village which she used as both her living apartment and brothel.

All sorts of reportedly men came to have s*x with her, after which she was paid peanuts. Narrating how she took the life of her baby, she said: “One morning, I wrapped a towel round the neck. Though she was crying, I made sure she was dead and then wrapped her all over and sneaked into the pit toilet in the compound, where I threw the dead baby inside”.

Crime Features gathered that Nsidibe’s secret deed came to the open when neighbours who knew she had a new baby suddenly started seeing her without a baby. Curiously and suspiciously, they launched into action by calling the attention of the police to their discovery. Investigation by the police later revealed that the lady had strangled the three-week-old baby and dropped her in a pit toilet few weeks after delivery.

Nsidibe has since been taken to court and the police command seemed to know nothing about her case any longer. Also, in a related development, a baby factory run by a fake medical doctor, Mr. Effiong Mbaba, was uncovered by the police at Ekpene Ukim, in Uruan Local Government Area. Mbaba, whose house and business premises was raided by the police, was said to be in the business of luring young girls with unwanted pregnancies or the less-privileged girls into getting pregnant after which he would take care of them, then buy the baby off them at delivery, to resell for profit.

The operation so far had yielded many dividends as young girls, including students, allegedly thronged the factory to sign on for the deal. According to the state police commissioner, Mr. Umar Gwadabe, when men of his command, who acted on a tip-off raided the factory, three pregnant girls and four others between the ages of 18 and 20 years were rescued from the procreation factory but the proprietor and other members of the syndicate had escaped to an unknown destination.

He said the proprietor’s wife, Mrs. Mbaba, was arrested, even as she allegedly admitted to the crime. Speaking with newsmen, Mrs Mbaba admitted that she and the husband had been engaging in the business for years and that the last baby they sold yielded a profit of N70,000 to the young mother.

Nura Mustapha, 28, is currently explaining to homicide detectives at the State Criminal Investigative Department, Panti, Yaba, Lagos State, why he was allegedly caught having s*x with the corpse of a lady identified as Faith Akin. Mustapha was arrested early in March after an attendant at the Green Star Hotel, Alaba-Rago, raised an alarm that he would not allow the corpse to be retrieved.

Police officers identified the corpse of the lady as Faith Akin, a resident of Ondo State, who visited her mother in Lagos. “We have a lot of customers coming with different girls to the hotel but on that fateful day, Mustapha came in about 5.00 pm and booked the room; after about 9.00pm, he brought in this lady and they stayed the night,” said the hotel attendant, who gave his name as Mathew.

“Early the next day, before I would hand over to the morning staff, I went round to check the rooms; [and] that was how I saw the lady lying down. I went to touch her but there was no response; I called out to Nura but he did not answer. It was when I came back the second time after I had informed the manager that I saw the customer having s*x with the corpse again; I tried to call his attention but he did not respond, so I went to call the police.”

When officers from the Ojo Police Station arrived the scene, it was gathered that the suspect was seen having s*x with the unconscious lady. “As soon as we got the complaint from the hotel management, we rushed to the scene of the incident; unfortunately, we experienced the shock of our lives when we saw Nura on top of the lifeless lady still banging her,” said a police officer who did not want his name published. “We had to drag him from the lady’s corpse before he realised that people had been watching him.

It was a terrible thing for such a young man to sleep with a corpse; maybe for ritual purpose but we do not know.” During questioning, Mustapha allegedly told the police officers that he had taken a s*x enhancement drug before inviting the deceased to his hotel room.

“He said he used a local Hausa herb, called ‘burutashe’ to enhance his s*xual performance before he had s*x with the lady,” said the police source. “The corpse had foam coming out from her mouth; and despite that he kept banging her because the drug made him to have delayed ejacu1ati*n. So to satisfy himself, he kept banging the lady; even when he discovered that she was dead, so as to relieve himself.”

The corpse has been deposited at a mortuary and police authorities are hoping that autopsy results will reveal the exact cause of Akin’s d*ath. The Tiv Yam market in Alaba-Rango is predominantly populated by Hausas and it was gathered that commercial s*x workers often congregate there at night to solicit for customers.

Sarkozy faces first lawsuit since immunity expired

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was hit on Monday by the first formal legal complaint against him since his judicial immunity as head of state expired. The complaint came from a lawyer acting for victims of a 2002 bombing in Karachi that investigators believe may be linked to a long-running corruption and illegal party-financing case. France's constitution shields presidents from testifying, being investigated and prosecution until a month after their term is up, which for Sarkozy was on Friday.

His immunity had kept him from being involved in probes into a submarine sale to Pakistan in the 1990s and, separately, into relations between him, his party and France's wealthiest woman.

In the so-called "Karachi Affair", judges are trying to unravel dealings by middlemen and possible kickbacks linked to France's sale of Agosta class submarines to Pakistan. Investigators are looking into whether the sale was the source of illegal party financing during the 1995 presidential campaign.

They are also investigating whether a 2002 bomb blast in Karachi that killed 11 French nationals was a reprisal for Paris' decision to stop paying commissions on the sale. A lawyer for the victims filed the complaint, accusing Sarkozy and his aides of illegally gaining access to elements of the inquiry, compromising investigators' independence.

The lawyer, Olivier Morice, said an official denial by Sarkozy's office last September that he had any involvement in the case revealed that he was illegally privy to elements of the investigation even though he was not part of the probe.

The presidential palace denied at the time that it had access to documents in the case, which was widely reported on by media and which cast a legal cloud over Sarkozy's unsuccessful bid for a second term. Sarkozy risks being entangled in a second, unrelated case in which investigators are looking into whether cash withdrawals from the account of L'Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt were used to finance Sarkzoy's 2007 campaign.

Sarkozy's lawyer has handed over his 2007 diary to investigators to fight allegations that he visited Bettencourt during the campaign, Le Journal du Dimanche reported. Legal sources told the weekly publication that investigators were considering searching Sarkozy's house. Socialist Francois Hollande defeated Sarkozy last month, promising to boost growth, cut unemployment and rid state business of murky affairs which have dogged it in the past under both right and left-wing administrations.

Obodo: Police comb Effurun, Warri for kidnappers

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, yesterday, confirmed the abduction of Christian Obodo, when contacted by Sunday Vanguard, saying the police were combing for his kidnappers. The commissioner, however, noted, “The police are surprised at his abduction as Obodo did not inform us about his presence for adequate security to be provided for him”.

Obodo Aduba said, “We heard about the kidnap and we are not resting on our oars to track down the people that kidnapped him. If we could provide security for expatriates that come into the state, there is no way we could not have provided security for him if he had informed us”, he said. A security source said, “The Super Eagles player is a high profile Nigerian and easily a target for kidnappers in such places like Warri and Effurun , and what he should have done was to hint the police about his visit so that they could keep an eye on him to avoid what had just happened.

It was gathered that Obodo who was born in Warri on 11 May, 1984, came to Warri to reunite with some old friends and had attended different clubs on Friday night with friends. Some informants, believed to be working for a kidnap gang, who witnessed how he showed off in one of the clubs, contacted the kidnappers who tailed him Saturday morning and abducted him, while cruising in his customized car. Security was beefed up in Warri and environs after the incident as the police patrolled different parts of the city in search of the footballer.

It is believed that those who knew Obodo very organized his abduction on Jakpa Road, Effurun, to fleece money from him, but as at press time, it is not known if they had mentioned any ransom. His car was reportedly abandoned around New Layout area, also in Effurun by the gunmen to avoid detection, but his whereabouts were not known.

A top security official confided to Sunday Vanguard, “We don’t believe that those who kidnapped Obodo came from the moon, they are around us, they may not even have left town, they could be keeping him somewhere within and around the state to ask for ransom later, so we are not going to take chances”. “They would want to keep him in a place they think is secure before they begin to ask him to call his family and associates for ransom, but we strongly advise that such information should be passed to security agents to enable us track them down”, he said.

2015: Buhari, Tinubu bury ambitions, to anoint candidate

Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, presidential candidate in the April 2011 election, General Muhammadu Buhari, and leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, may have agreed to bury their differences and aspirations as the CPC and ACN rapprochement continues to gather momentum. The two met in Kaduna at the residence of Buhari last Thursday.

Both men also drove together to Kano to the waiting embrace of a mammoth crowd. It was gathered, at the weekend, that discussions between both men centred on how to proceed preparatory to the 2015 general elections. Of specific concern, Sunday Vanguard was told by a source privy to the meeting, was the issue of presenting a “united front for the presidential engagement”.

Although talks are still on, the source said that one of the first steps to be taken by each of the parties “would be the movement towards the centre”. To this end, both men are said to be disposed to a compromise that “would see each relegating his ambition for the common good of the proposed alliance”. If all goes well, both men, according to our source, would seek and anoint candidates for the presidential election.

In fact, the reason both leaders have decided to commence talks in earnest is “just so they would avoid the type of last minute rancour that led to the collapse of talks last year”, a source said. It would be recalled that last-minute efforts by the ACN and CPC to forge an alliance for last year’s presidential election collapsed. The inability of each of the party’s leaders to subsume their ambitions led to the collapse of the talks.

Man Shot His Wife,Children and Commit Suicide

A former Indian army officer wanted in the 1996 killing of a human rights lawyer shot and killed his own wife and two of their children in their California home before apparently committing suicide, authorities said. A 17-year-old believed to be the man's son also was shot in the Saturday morning attack and was "barely alive," Fresno County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Curtice said.

The ex-officer, Avtar Singh, had been arrested in this central California city last year after his wife said he choked her, and the Indian government sought his extradition days after that in the 1996 death of Jalil Andrabi. But he remained free, for reasons that were not immediately clear.

Andrabi's brother and lawyer blamed New Delhi, saying Singh's family would still be alive if the government had tried harder to bring him to justice. "These lives could have been saved if a trial of Maj. Avtar Singh was conducted on time," said Andrabi's brother, Arshad. "We have lost that chance now.

He was a known murderer and we are appalled that he was even shielded in the United States. It's a failure of justice at all levels." Singh, who owned a trucking company in Selma, called police around 6:15 a.m. Saturday and told them that he had just killed four people, Curtice said. He added that a sheriff's SWAT team was called in to assist because of Singh's military background and the India charges against him. When the SWAT team entered the home they found the bodies of Singh, a woman believed to be his wife and two children, ages 3 and 15, Curtice said.

All appeared to have died from gunshot wounds. The 17-year-old suffered severe head trauma and underwent surgery at a hospital where he remained in intensive care Saturday evening, Curtice said. Singh, 47, was arrested by Selma police in February 2011 when his wife reported that he had choked her, Selma Police Chief Myron Dyck said shortly after that arrest.

Police then discovered that he was being sought in India, but Dyck said at the time that he could not keep Singh in custody on the murder charge without a warrant from international authorities. Several days later, India requested that the United States arrest and extradite Singh. It wasn't clear on Saturday why Singh had remained free since the request. A request for comment from the Consulate General of India in San Francisco on Saturday was not immediately returned.

Dyck didn't immediately return a call seeking comment Saturday about the 2011 arrest, and Selma police referred questions about the apparent murder-suicide to Fresno County sheriff's officials. Selma police last had contact with Singh about two months ago when he called to complain that reporters wouldn't leave him alone because of the murder warrant, Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims told the Fresno Bee (http://bit.ly/KpCPEq).

Jalil Andrabi was killed at the height of protests in Indian-controlled Kashmir, where nearly a dozen rebel groups have fought security forces for independence or merger with Pakistan since 1989. More than 68,000 people, mostly civilian, have been killed in the uprising and subsequent Indian crackdown. Andrabi disappeared in March 1996 in Kashmir's main city, Srinagar.

His body was recovered 19 days later in a local river. He had been shot in the head and his eyes were gouged out. A police investigation said Andrabi had been picked up from his home by Indian troops and killed in their custody. The probe blamed Singh and his soldiers for that killing and also accused Singh of involvement in the killings of six other Kashmiri men.

Singh had been charged in Kashmir only with Andrabi's killing. Kashmir police had sought permission from the government of India for Singh's prosecution in the six other killings. Under India's armed forces special powers act, federal permission has to be obtained before police can prosecute any army or paramilitary soldier posted in Kashmir.

No soldier has been punished for Andrabi's killing, human rights lawyers say. Singh fled India after he was accused of killing Andrabi. Hafizullah Mir, a human rights lawyer, said he was tracked to California in 2009 with the help of the Canadian Center for International Justice, a human rights advocacy group, but that New Delhi did not pursue extradition until after his 2011 arrest.

Doctors at the hospital told the anxious man to calm down that his maid was not seriously sick as he had thought but that she was pregnant.

The man was short of words since the maid is not married. He moved angrily to the maid on her hospital bed and asked her how and who was responsible for her pregnancy, and she replied thus: “I slept with him only 22 times and I did not know I was pregnant.”

The man asked her who the him was and she said it was their family driver. According to an online media, the Kuwaiti man has reported the maid and his driver to the police, "for necessary action".

Tomb of Jesus Christ uncovered

Though Easter is well out of the way till next year, the celebrant is still stirring up controversy. Archaeologists working in Jerusalem, claim to have found a discovery inside a burial tomb, dating back to the time of Jesus Christ that could shed more light on the origins of Christianity.

The team of Archaeologists which comprised of controversial filmmaker Jacobovici with three Emmys for outstanding Investigative Journalism and his archaeology team and Biblical historian Professor James Tabor of the University of North Carolina are convinced that several pieces of evidence found in the tomb, including a 2,000- year –old engraving on the side of the burial site, human bone boxes, the close proximity to the burial site in the 1980s containing the remains of Jesus family all points to the authenticity of their claim.

The find is 200ft away from an earlier discovery known as the Jesus Family Tomb, which caused a lot of controversy after it was uncovered in the 1980s. Archaeologists then claimed it contained ossuaries inscribed with names associated with Jesus's family. This discovery ignited the theory that Mary Magdalene was buried alongside Jesus and he had married and raised a family with her.

However many leading theologians were quick to quash such claims. The Jesus Family Tomb could not be properly examined due to protest by Orthodox Jews. The site was sealed up and a tower block built over it. Determined to continue the research, Professor Tabor teamed up with film maker Jacobovici. The pair obtained permission from the Israeli government to explore the area.

The researchers, who believe the tombs are located in a land that was owned by Joseph of Arimathea at the time, claims this site is unique because they found a limestone box known as an ossuarie with an inscription and another box carrying a drawing of a fish with a stick figure in its mouth which Professor Tabor believes to refer to the story of Jonah and the Whale. The limestone carries a Greek inscription and is open to interpretation as meanings of words could be lost during translation.

The interpretation so far are; "O Divine Jehovah, raise up, raise up" or "The Divine Jehovah raises up to the Holy Place" or "The Divine Jehovah raises up from." Professor Tabor said 'this inscription has something to do with resurrection of the dead, either of the deceased in the ossuary, or perhaps, given the Jonah image nearby, an expression of faith in Jesus' resurrection. The ossuary with the image that Tabor and his team understand to be representing Jonah also has other interesting engravings.

These also may be connected to resurrection, Tabor notes. On one side is the tail of a fish disappearing off the edge of the box, as if it is diving into the water. There are small fish images around its border on the front facing, and on the other side is the image of a cross-like gate or entrance—which Tabor interprets as the notion of entering the 'bars' of death, which are mentioned in the Jonah story in the Bible. The high tech excavation was done using a camera mounted on a robotic arm, so as to explore the ancient burial site without disturbing anything.

Speaking about his feelings during the excavation, Professor Tabor said "It's almost like a moonscape feeling of something eerie, something kind of silent- a reverent feeling really," Because these people died 2,000 years ago and now we are investigating their last memories, how they bury their dead, what they left behind, so that was there and then the excitement of, 'Well will there be something we'll find or will we find just another Jewish tomb'?" Though Professor Tabor and his team are certain they have discovered Jesus final resting place and his remains, however, other scholars are extremely sceptical.

Mark Goodacre, an associate professor of religious studies at Duke University, who specialises in the New Testament, told ABC News that the fish engraving is actually no such thing. He said: 'When is a fish not a fish? When it has handles, matching handles. It's a vessel. It's a vase. It's a vase that looks like many of the ones that you'll find in the early Roman period.' He added that there is no firm evidence relating to Jesus in either tomb.

He also thinks that Tabor and his team heads are "full of DaVinci Code," referring to the 2003 mystery novel written by Dan Brown about the descendants of Jesus Concurring is University of Iowa assistant professor of classics and religious studies Robert Cargill who thinks the story is bogus, saying that there are "clearly handles on the top of the so-called ‘Jonah fish' image. No credible scholar except those that work with or for Simcha on this or some other project believe his conclusions… The evidence does not support their sensational claims. But that doesn't stop them from wanting it to be true, so in their minds, it's true."

James Ibori Sentenced to 13 Years in Prison in UK Court

James Ibori, former governor of Delta state has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for corruption and money laundering charges at the Southwark Crown Court 9 in London.

His sentence was announced at about 3.20pm today by Judge Anthony Pitts.Earlier on, his lawyers had tried to make a case for a lenient sentencing. His lawyer, Nicholas Pernellblamed Badrash Gohil and former Akwa Ibom state governor, Victor Attah, for the V-Mobile scam saying they were the architects of the fraud.

He further credited his client with every development in Nigeria, and especially in Delta state, from the banking reforms, to peace in the Niger Delta, education, and building of low-cost housing. Also in his defence, he stated that his client, James Ibori, played a part in supporting British industry even before he became governor. As evidence, he cited a letter from British Airways, thanking Ibori for restoring direct flights between Nigeria and Britain.

Mr. Pernell, in his conclusion, asked the Judge to consider the pressure that his client has been under since investigatons began in 2005, and also the accused’s children who now have both their parents in custody before passing his sentence.

Also in his defence, veteran sportsman, John Fashanu, made an appearance in the court today. He testified saying the former governor achieved a lot in sports, and was instrumental to the end of militancy in the state. He told the court that Ibori built nine mini-sports stadia and three Olympic-sized stadia in Delta state and also built the first shooting range in Nigeria.

The court went for a recess at about 12.30pm and reconvened at 2.25pm after which his sentence was read.

James Ibori had earlier pleaded guilty to a number of corruption and money laundering charges against him put at about $250million before Judge Pitts. This includes the V-Mobile and Bombardaire scams which amounted to $50million. Ibori and Victor Attah, former Akwa Ibom state governor also formed a phantom company called ADF to siphon US$37.5million from Delta and Akwa Ibom states’ shares in V-Mobile. He was accused of embezzling these funds during his tenure as governor and using most of them to live a lavish lifestyle and acquire property and assets around the world.

Judge Pitts said that the sentencing will not be the end of the matter as his property will also be confiscated.

The stupidity of cheating

Some folks cheat on their wife or their husband to put one over on them, to win at some game of deception. They might get more sex, but they lose intimacy. You cannot feel close to someone you treat as your opponent.

You cannot feel known by someone you must lie to. You cannot have a close relationship and one on the side. Some folks cheat because they feel they deserve it. They continue to provide whatever they view as their spousal duties robotically, with no living, breathing relationship left.

Then, perhaps because they have seen others do it before them, they take the lover they feel they deserve. Oddly, they seem surprised when neither partner is all that delighted to have access to only half of the man or woman they could be. Some folks cheat because they want their marriage to survive.

Ironic, no? Something huge is missing from their marriage during their spouse's illness, addiction, layoff, or pregnancy, and they figure if they can just get this from someone else, they can keep their marriage alive long enough for it to recover. Again, it does not work. When you add deception and divided loyalties to an illness, addiction, layoff, or pregnancy, ti makes recovery a lot more difficult.

Some unmarried folks join in, helping one spouse cheat on another. A few do it because they somehow expect a healthy marriage to emerge from such a compromised beginning. They feel certain the odds that apply overall do not apply to them. Others do it because they want what married people have without any of the risk of loss.

Unfortunately for them, tolerating the risk of loss is the only way to get what happily married people gain from their relationships, which is far more than sex or money. The other benefits include loyalty, protection, kindness, acts of service, the intimacy of being known and appreciated without any mask, synergy, shared goals larger than those you could tackle alone, shared memories, being part of two families instead of one, and opportunities for great personal growth.

To put these at risk by cheating on your spouse or to miss out on them by cheating with someone else's spouse? Pure stupidity. Happy people have good relationships.

Heavy trouble is currently raging in the family of Chief Simon Odo (a.k.a Satan is Sleeping). The 66 year old herbalist who has 48 wives and 200 children, is in a running battle with some of his children. One of the trouble is that his children have insisted he must repent and give up the business but to no avail. Over time, seven of them were ordained pastors at the Lord’s Chosen Pentecostal Church, while many of them took after their father in his business.

However, the ordination of the pastors brought about a radical Christian awakening in the extra-large family of Chief Simon Odo. Consequently, there had been a simmering misunderstanding between the pastors and their father regarding his herbal practice. Last February, Chief Simon lost one of his wives and made arranged for the burial programme, but his pastor sons rejected. They even organized a prayer programme for her burial.

In the confusion that ensued, the pastors and some of his children were said to have manhandled their father and tore his clothes to shreds. The herbalist have therefore taken the matter to the police. “The beating is unacceptable and I cannot tolerate it and that was why I sought police intervention to prosecute them,” the herbalist father said.

Chief Simon’s trouble, according to a source, started two years ago when he allegedly discovered that one of the so-called pastors had sexual relationship with one of his wives (name withheld), explaining that when he accosted him, the son reacted by mobilizing others to rebel against him. Chief Simon argued that if his pastor sons’ repentance was to be making love to their father’s wife, then such repentance is evil before the creator of heaven and earth.
