Twenty People Have Died in the Pampanga Building Disaster

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Rescuers reported that three more bodies were recovered Tuesday afternoon from the rubble of a building that fell in Pampanga, bringing the total number of fatalities to 20.

According to Angeles City Public Information Officer Jay Pelayo, a woman, a guy, and a young girl were among the most recent deaths.

Early on May 14, the nine-story condominium complex in Angeles City crashed onto a nearby hotel.

Construction workers who were sleeping at the site at the time made up the majority of the casualties. Up to 70 people were working at the building site, according to officials, though the majority had left for the weekend.

The 2027 FIBA Women's Asia Cup will be held in the Philippines

The FIBA Regional Office Asia said on Thursday that the Philippines will host the FIBA Women's Asia Cup in 2027.

The competition is returning to the Philippines for the first time in more than ten years. When the men's national team, Gilas Pilipinas, won a silver medal in the FIBA Asia Cup and qualified for the FIBA World Cup after a 36-year break, Manila hosted its last significant FIBA Asia event in 2013.

Since then, the Philippines has played home to a number of international basketball tournaments, including the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

According to FIBA Executive Director-Asia Hagop Khajirian, the tournament's return to the Philippines is anticipated to support the growth of women's basketball on a local and regional level.

"We think that holding the FIBA Women's Asia Cup in the Philippines, a country with a fervent basketball fan base, will support FIBA's initiatives to advance women's basketball in Asia. According to Khajirian, the occasion would also support the SBP's initiatives to advance women's basketball in the Philippines.

The announcement was welcomed by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), which noted the increasing popularity of women's basketball in the nation.

"With the establishment of a women's professional league and the opportunity for some of our national team players to play overseas, women's basketball in the nation is currently experiencing tremendous momentum, so the timing couldn't be better," SBP President Alfredo Panlilio said.

In the meantime, FIBA revealed who would host other forthcoming Asian competitions. In 2027 and 2028, respectively, Indonesia will host the FIBA U16 Women's Asia Cup and the FIBA U18 Asia Cup. The country is also set to stage the FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup in 2028 and the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup in 2029.

In 2026, Qatar will host the FIBA U18 Asia Cup, while in 2028, Kazakhstan will host the FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup, making it the first Central Asian nation to host a FIBA Asia competition. In 2027, Jordan will host the FIBA U16 Asia Cup.

Three of 17 Filipino Seafarers from MV Magic Seas Return Safely After Red Sea Missile Attack

Three of the 17 Filipino seafarers who were aboard the MV Magic Seas have safely returned home following a missile attack by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea last July 6.

Two separate groups arrived in the country today ,the first batch landed at NAIA Terminal 1 this afternoon, while another three seafarers arrived at Clark International Airport around 4:00 PM.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed their safe arrival and emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to support all affected Filipino crew members through a comprehensive reintegration program. This includes medical assistance, psychosocial services, and access to livelihood and skills training opportunities.

The repatriated seafarers were Welcomed by DMW officials, alongside representatives from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Upon arrival, the seafarers underwent medical check-ups, received psychosocial support, and were granted TESDA training vouchers. These are part of the reintegration services ordered by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who has directed concerned agencies to prioritize the safety and welfare of all distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to facilitate the safe return of the remaining 14 Filipino crew members, who have been confirmed to be unharmed and in stable condition.

The MV Magic Seas, a commercial cargo vessel manned by an all-Filipino crew, came under missile attack while navigating the Red Sea, a known conflict zone. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

The Philippine government, through the DMW and partner agencies, continues to monitor the situation and reaffirm its commitment to protecting the rights and safety of all OFWs.

Let us objectively define or differentiate terrorism vs rebellion.

Rebellion is a resistance against a government. (*Armed resistance) they generally have a full military structure and generally act more like a traditional military, or militia. Generally speaking rebel groups target military and political targets only, they might oppress a civilian group, but only to support their needs. Lately yung ginagawa ng NPA na pag gamit ng landlmine at pagsunog ng mga businesses is already an act of terrorism.

Terrorism is using violence against civilians for a political goal. (a form of rebellion)ISIS is a hybrid rebel and terrorist movement. They fight directly on their home front, but also use terror tactics both on their home front and abroad.

The difference between a terrorist and a rebel is intention.

So, question. Does the act of maute satisfy the elements of rebellion? all or any of those mentioned

1)There be (a) public uprising - I would say yes, given that the Maute had an alleged support. Checks that was recovered is issued by 2 former mayor of lanao. etc etc

(b) taking arms against the Government - Check! They are well armed! well prepared!

2)The purpose of the uprising or movement is either

a)To remove from allegiance to said Government or its laws:
1) The territory of the Philippines or any part thereof; or 2) - Check! They want Marawi to be an ISIS Capital. An islamic state.

On the basis of declaring martial law?

"When the public safety requires it, he may, for a period not exceding 60 days declare martial law. In a specific location or entire country. So yung pag invade po ng maute sa marawi, places the public in great danger thus satisfying the basis on declaring martial law. Rebellion in a sense that they do not recognize the duly constituted gov't and pledges allegiance to ISIS. An Islamic State. Ang keyword po ay "WHEN THE PUBLIC SAFETY REQUIRES IT" Yung pag invade sa marami compromises the other places in MIndanao. That other places are vulnerable to any terrorist attack.

I first met Philippine President Rody Duterte at the ASEAN Summit in September (bit.ly/2hRaPSn). Happy that he accepted President Dr Tony Tan’s invitation to make an official visit to Singapore. He told me he was last here 30 years ago, for a court case!

Singapore and the Philippines enjoy a long-standing friendship. We have strong economic ties and warm people-to-people links. There is a lively Filipino community in Singapore and many Filipino tourists come here to enjoy our food and attractions.

At our meeting today, Mr Duterte and I discussed terrorism, the South China Sea and the US role in the region. Look forward to the Philippines’ Chairmanship of ASEAN next year, which will also coincide with the 50th anniversary of founding of ASEAN. – LHL

The meaning of basic law is temporary or interim constitution and the Bangsamoro is Muslim nation. If this law is under the Philippine Constitution, should called chapter and not basic law because its opposed to the Philippine Constitution. Should also be removed by legislators the bangsamoro words because it was a malicious words that means Muslim nation. The meaning of the liberation in milf or moro islamic liberation front is a separation or segregation of armm in the Philippines as an independent state. Therefore the motto of Abu Sayaff group is to have own Islamic constitution and implemented through a basic law, in that word meaning is temporary constitution. These words in their name are malicious and contrary to the Philippine Constitution as the basic law bangsamoro word or bbl.

Pyramid scheme is an unsustainable business model that involves promising participants of payment and services if you enroll other participants into the scheme.

It sounds like a dream but it has its own flaws.

The most common in the Philippines is MLM, unlike networking, MLM gives you products that they say is "What you are paying for". Walang hiya, isang oras ata ako naka upo tas kung ano anong pinapaliwanag sakin pag naka recruit daw ako yayaman ako. Pero ang nasa isip ko lang gusto ko na umuwi at pagmumurahin sa FB yung dalawa kong kababata. After pa ako i-orient, tinanong pa ko kung may 8k daw ako para sa recruitment. Sabi ko wala.
