Victoria Beckham unveiled her cover of the August edition of Vogue China magazine on her Twitter page on Friday.
The fashion designer posed for Josh Olins for the cover shoot of the iconic magazine, which comes just two weeks after Posh, 39, and husband David, 38, visited the Far East.

President Goodluck directs PDP chairman and NWC committe to resign

President Goodluck Jonathan may have directed the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, and other members of the PDP National Working Committee to resign.
It was learnt on Monday [Jun 17] that Jonathan gave the directive after the presidential committee on the PDP crises headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Pius Anyim, submitted its report to him in Abuja .

The order and submission of the report which noted that the party was drifting coincided with the lifting of the suspension of Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Wamakko, by the 12-member Tukur-led NWC.

A member of the presidential committee, who spoke PUNCH’s correspondent on condition of anonymity, added that Tukur and the other NWC members would tender their resignation letters at the party’s National Executive Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday in Abuja.

He said apart from the PDP internal crises, the President was concerned about the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission on the manner majority of the NWC members came to office.

INEC had queried the affirmation method that returned most of the NWC members to office.

It was also gathered that the NWC members were told that they risked being sacked if they failed to quit before Thursday.

A PDP source said, “If they fail to resign before Thursday, they will be sacked.” He added that the Presidency had already directed that a caretaker committee be set up in place of the NWC.

When contacted, a member of the NWC, who wondered how Jonathan’s directive was leaked, merely said it was true.

“How did the story leak? Yes, it is true. I am already packing my things from my office, “he said.

But another NWC member, who also admitted that they would cease to hold office before Friday, said, “We are not resigning because President Jonathan asked us to do so. If we resign, it will be because of the report by INEC. We will be resigning to protect the integrity of INEC.”

A national leader of the PDP confirmed the looming dissolution of the NWC, saying, “You remember INEC had said that it does not recognise the election of a majority of them (NWC members).

A member of the presidential committee which has governors Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta); Goodwill Akpabio, (Akwa Ibom); Theodore Orji (Abia ); Isa Yuguda (Bauchi); Ibrahim Shema (Katsina); and Gabriel Suswam (Benue), as some of its members, had said the panel was not pleased with happenings in the PDP.

He said, “Our report, which might not please the President and the leadership of the party, is that the party is drifting. We have told him not to allow the party disintegrate further because whether we like it or not, the party is drifting dangerously and we have to arrest that.

The Board of Trustees of the party is expected to meet in Abuja on Wednesday.

It was gathered on Monday that pressure from PDP governors made Tukur and his team to lift the suspension on Wamakko at a press conference jointly addressed by himself, Akpabio and four other governors–Uduaghan, Orji, Yuguda and Shema. Anyim and Gulak were also present at the briefing.

On why Amaechi’s suspension was not lifted, Akpabio said it was because of a case he (Amaechi) instituted against the party.

It was a lingering crisis that rocked Bishop David Oyedepo-led Living Faith Church Worldwide, a.k.a Winners Chapel, over the disappearance of a little girl known as Praise from the church two years ago.

Samuel Eleng and his wife, Favour, had their two year-old twin daughter missing at the children’s department of the Canaanland, Winners Chapel headquarters, Sango Ota, Ogun State on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2011.

The little girl, Praise has now been found, two years after she was declared missing. The girl was brought to church on Sunday [Jun 16] by her parents.

The girl, now around four years was reportedly sold to a woman in Kano.

The kidnapper who took Praise away from the woman (Sunday School teacher) confessed to committing the crime. By the end of the church service, Praise had gone missing from the class in which she was left.

The kidnapper said he was struck with a strange disease after kidnapping Praise. He also became blind.

In addition to this, he said he was always seeing the founder of the church, Bishop David Oyedepo, pursuing him with a sword in his dream, hence his decision to confess his sin.

The Bishop said the self-confessed kidnapper was taken to a branch of Winners Church by his wife.

Sign death warrants, President Goodluck tells governors on fathers day

President Goodluck Jonathan has called on state governors not to shy away from signing death sentences passed on convicted criminals saying that as leaders, their responsibilities include doing both the “sweet and the ugly part” a long as it is sanctioned by law.

In a message at the Villa Chapel to commemorate the Fathers’ day celebration, president Jonathan expressed worry that discipline which used to be the hallmark of the family is gradually being eroded because of negative influence of modernism.

He said: “These days, because of modern life, discipline is almost gone. Discipline can be in various forms. In the states, it could be admonition. Magistrate can just admonish and allow him to go. From admonition to various forms of punishments, it could be imprisonment. The extreme is capital punishment.

“In the case of capital punishment, the state governors will sign (the death sentence). Even governors sometimes find it difficult to sign. I have been telling the governors that they must sign because that is the law. The work we are doing have a very sweet part and a very ugly part and we must perform both. No matter how painful it is, it is part of their responsibilities” the president said.

He president said fathers are expected to be role models where children will want to be like their fathers, saying that they must of fail to discipline their children when necessary.

“I want to urge all of us who are fathers to discipline our children. No matter what you do, even if you show love and provide the needs of the family, if you don’t discipline your children, it is not good. So for us as parents, it is important for us to let our children constantly know that it is good to take the right path. It is good for them to know that they must be upright” the president said.

Earlier in his sermon, The President of the Church of Christ in Nigeria, Rev. Soja Bewarang, said if Nigeria must move forward, those working with the President must refrain from stealing public funds and must be honest.

“If this country must survive, all men working under the President must practise honesty and they must not steal. He (the President) cannot fight corruption when you are not supporting him. He may try, but he cannot be everywhere. You are his representatives , so you must practise honesty and you must not steal,” he said.

He asked Nigerians to pray for good fathers like Enoch; those who will walk with God like Noah; those who will feat and trust God like Joshua; and men of faith like Abraham.

The special service which had Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State as the special guest of honour was also attended by the President’s mother, Eunice; Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State; Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife; Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Tony Anenih; members of the Federal Executive Council; new Controller-General of Immigration, Mr. David Paradang; Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Ade Abolurin; and members of the National Assembly.

Governor Suntai discharged from United States hospital

Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State has been discharged from the John Hopkins Hospital in Maryland, United States, three months after he was brought to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) from a German hospital as a result of the injuries he sustained during the October 2012 plane crash that involved him and some of his aides in Adamawa State.
It was learnt that the governor was discharged from the hospital weekend and is presently at his residence in New York.
One of his personal doctors, who gave his name as Dr. Andrew Smith, said Suntai will be advised to return back to Nigeria the moment he is confirmed fit to undergo a long distance flight.
Apart from Suntai’s wife, Hajia Hauwa Suntai and their children that were in the house, a top delegation of the state was also there to felicitate with the governor who had spent well over eight months both in German and United States hospitals.

Members of the delegation were a member representing Taraba state at the House of Representatives, Hon Haruna Manu, member of the state House of Assembly, Hon Mark Useni, former Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon Abel Peter Diah and Hon Rebo Usman.
Dr. Andrew Smith dispelled all the rumour of Suntai’s ‘brain damage’ saying that the governor was very conscious and could see, stand, eat and recognise all the people around him by their names.
Meanwhile, Hajia Hauwa Suntai, who was full of thanks to God for bringing her husband back to life, having undergone very serious pains both in hospitals in Nigeria, Germany and the United States, said the family had nothing to hide about Suntai’s health adding that at the right time, she and her husband would speak with the press.

Nigerian student cuts, swallows manhood in Ghana

A Nigerian student enrolled in one of the numerous tertiary institutions in Ghana has cut and swallowed his penis. The incident occurred last Friday. Although no one is sure what prompted the 25-year-old student (name withheld) to chop-off and practically ingest his manhood, Daily Sun gathered that he is currently on admission at one of Ghana’s teaching hospitals.
In Ghana, the average tuition fee per academic session for a non-Ghanaian student hovers around $6,000 (over N900,000). If his parents could pay his fees for studying in Ghana, it was doubtful hunger was not the boy’s reason.
So, was he jilted by a lover? Was it some senseless act of bravado or as a result of failure or poor grades? More pentecostal jets are in the offing according to the National Vice President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), southwest zone, Bishop Francis Wale Oke. He stated this through an article published in a national daily following the widespread criticism and condemnation that has greeted the acquisition of private jets by men of God lately.

According to him, the process towards the acquisition of private jets by pentecostal pastors has only just begun.
“They have seen a few jets. They ain’t seen nothing yet! More of us will still buy and maintain our jets because, by the mercy of God, we have been given the wisdom to do so.
“And we are willing to teach the nation, if they will listen to us, rather than throw stones.
“More Pentecostal jets are on the way, and we owe no apology about that.
“Come along with us, and you too will soon become a solution, a job provider, a pioneer, and no more a part of our national rot, corruption and inefficiency,” the Bishop told critics.
He recalled that while the Pentecostalism was just growing in the country, people called them various derogatory names including ‘poor church rats,’ and ‘mushroom churches,’ but these same people have taken to criticising the pastors now that they are reaping from their labour.
“Our critics do not understand the way of God, that when someone sows, he or she must reap; that those who sow in tears shall reap with joy,” he said, adding that he was sure their critics would have denied them the joy of reaping from their labour if such critics had the powers.
He said rather than engage in criticisms the nation should have turned to the church for wisdom.
“How have you (the church) been able to provide electricity for your massive organisations and campsites and we have not been able to power the nation?
“How have you (the church) been able to maintain your jets for years, and we don’t even have a national carrier?
“How do you make your schools, colleges and universities such first-class institutions and ours are dilapidating, riddled with cultism and violence in spite of so much money we are pumping into them again and again?
“Rather than blind, and sometimes irreverent, criticisms that flow out of a mixture of ignorance and envy, the Pentecostals should have been asked, how did you move from a people despised and rejected to becoming the jet owners, institution pioneers and nation-builders that you are today?” He said.
He, however, said the jets meant nothing to them more than for use to propagate the teachings of God which he said has now gone global and technical.
“They (the jets) are just tools to do the work that God has given us in a more effective manner.
“How can Enoch Adeboye who has churches in over 160 nations of the earth cope with his pastoral and apostolic responsibilities without some private jets!
“He does not need just one. He needs some!
“How can an Ayo Oritsejafor, who has to minister around the globe, pastor a very large congregation in Warri, and still attend to critical national matters in Abuja cope if he has to keep waiting at the airports, in a system where nothing is predictable?
“Our critics should please note that more of us are following the trail of the likes of Adeboye, whose wealth and affluence has never stopped him from being a true shepherd of the poor and downtrodden, in true humility, simplicity and godly sincerity, a shinning example of true Pentecostalism and charismatic wisdom.”

Woman Caught For Smuggling Cocaine In Breast Implants

A woman simply identified as Yeraldina, 33, was arrested in Barcelona, Spain, after she was caught allegedly smuggling cocaine inside her breasts.
The border police had reportedly noticed suspicious activity Wednesday when the Panamanian woman arrived on a flight from Bogotá, Colombia, with scars and blood-stained gauze wrapped around her chest.
She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where doctors worked to remove the implants from her body. Spain’s Interior Ministry said doctors found three pounds (about 1.38kg) of cocaine packed inside the implants.
The arrest and subsequent operation may have saved the young woman’s life who claimed that she was forced by drug traffickers to undergo surgery to implant the bags of the class A drug under her skin.
“She was in a very bad state when she arrived,” a police source was quoted as saying. “She said she was not in any pain, but the wounds looked very bad.”

Girl, 13, Defends Lover Over Rape Allegation

A 22-year old man, Peter Victor has been arrested by the police and charged before a magistrate’s in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, for allegedly raping a 13-year old girl (name withheld)
He is now facing a charge of rape before the Magistrate, Mrs M B Folami.
The victim stunned the police and the court when she said she was not raped by Victor as claimed by the police.
She said she allowed Victor to sleep with her thrice because she loved him and because he had assisting her family.
She revealed that Victor has been buying gifts for her and members of her family, adding that she usually takes the gifts home to show her parents who sometimes share from them.
She also revealed that when Victor was arrested and she was brought to the station, she told the police that she was not raped, but she was asked to shut up because she was a minor.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the girl’s father was aware of the relationship between Victor and her daughter when she returned late in their last outing one day and during questioning, the girl told her father that she went out with the man.
On further inquiry, she was said to have admitted to her father that Victor had been sleeping with her.
The angry father was said to have gone to the police to report that Victor raped his daughter. Victor was, therefore, arrested and charged to court on a one-count charge of having unlawful canal knowledge of the girl.
The Cross River State-born admitted having sex with the girl, but that he did not rape her as claimed by the police.
He also told the court that she is her girlfriend and that he has being assisting her and her family.
The police insisted that it was a case of rape and charged him under section 137 of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State of Nigeria. He pleaded not guilty.
He was denied bail and ordered remanded in Kirikiri prison.

Shocked Father Narrates How His Daughter’s Fiancé Bathed Her With Acid

For 22-year old Chika Egbo, student of the Enugu State College of Education, life will never be the same again as her estranged lover, David Sulaimon, has bathed her with acid – destroying every visible skin from her chest upwards
Chika who is currently receiving treatment at the Burns Unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, had met Sulaimon sometime last year and they immediately struck a chord to the extent of planning marriage.
Chika’s father, Matthew Egbo, a Taraba State-based businessman, narrated the incident that led to his daughter’s state – the story brought tears to his eyes as he lamented that his daughter would never be normal again.
According to Matthew, after agreeing to give his daughter’s hand in marriage to Sulaimon, he requested him to bring his parents for proper introduction, but the suitor said his father was ill and needed to be taken abroad for treatment. He also said his mother was abroad.
However, a date of June 25 was agreed on and Sulaimon brought seven men and four women dressed in Yoruba attire to the Matthew’s hometown, Enugu, where the introduction was held.
“But around November last year, my wife travelled from Taraba to Enugu and Chika told her she was pregnant” Matthew narrated. But Chika told her parents they should not be alarmed since she and Sulaiman had agreed to get married.
Chika was instructed to go to Lagos and tell Sulaiman’s relations about the pregnancy.
But when she got back from Lagos, Chika told her father that she discovered that most of what Sulaiman had told her about his parents were lies. While his supposedly ‘ill’ father was not only hale and hearty, he denied knowledge of any plans by his son to get married. Likewise, Sulaimon’s mother was not abroad as claimed – she received Chika well and even expressed joy that her son had found someone to marry.
That would be the last time the Matthew’s family heard anything from Sulaimon nor his family until she put to bed a baby girl on May 4. Chika still informed Sulaimon of her safe delivery but he gave series of excuses why he could not visit her.
He reportedly told her he was facing some challenges and did not have the wherewithal to take care of the baby at the moment.
After a few months and Chika’s baby girl was weaned, her parents took the decision to take care of the baby so she could continue with her education.
It wasn’t till November that Sulaimon began to request that he needed to see his baby, but Matthew told him to bring his parents to come and iron things out.
Chika was said to have insisted she did not want to have anything to do with the young man anymore.
But on November 5, Chika travelled to Lagos after Sulaimon had informed her that his mother wanted to see her. The unsuspecting girl left Enugu without informing her parents. That would later turn out to be a move she’ll rue for life.
From what Matthew gathered, soon as Chika got to Igando, Lagos, Sulaimon met her and she demanded that he should take her to his mother who wanted to see her.
“What we gathered from the little she could mumble to us was that Sulaimon went behind a house and as they were about to pick an okada to his mother’s house, he brought out a polythene.
“But when they stopped at a point and Chika thought they were going to proceed to his mother’s house, he just opened a container in the polythene he was carrying and emptied its content on her head.
“She told us when she realised that what Sulaimon poured on her had began eating into her skin, she raised the alarm and called for help.”
It was learnt that passersby and sympathisers, who had been alerted to the young woman’s plight, pursued the fleeing Sulaimon and when he was apprehended, they took him to Ikotun Police Station.
“Till now, I still don’t know why he did what he did,” Matthew said.
Divisional Police Officer of Ikotun, Mr. Augustin Akika, confirmed the incident, but said the suspect had been transferred to the state Criminal Investigations Department, Yaba.

Saudi King has been Clinically Dead for Two Days

Saudi Arabia King, Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, has reportedly been in a state of “clinical death” for the past two days, Arabic newspaper, Asharq Alawsat, said on Monday.
The paper’s report claimed that medical staff in Saudi Arabia had confirmed that the king’s basic organs were no longer working. According to their source, “the fate of the king will be determined within three to four days.”
However, this news contradicts reports from the Saudi Royal Court, which publicly announced that an 11-hour operation on the king had been a success. According to state news agency, SPA, the 89-year-old monarch was in hospital for surgery to tighten a ligament in his back.
Meanwhile, Saudi crown prince, Salman has reassured the people during a cabinet meeting on Monday about King Abdullah’s health, more than a week after the surgery, state news agency SPA reported. The king was admitted for surgery on November 16 and an announcement from the Royal Court said he had undergone a successful back operation that took 11 hours.
Abdullah, who took over power in 2005, named his brother, Prince Salman, heir apparent in June, after the death of Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz.

Kidnappers in the university town of Nsukka in Enugu state seem not in a hurry to dump their filthy lucre despite the efforts of the state Police Command to run them out of town. Apparently calling the bluff of law enforcement agents and playing the lords of the town and its environs, the hoodlums have formed an association.

The body known as Association of Kidnappers of Nsukka (AKN) made its debut in the town recently. Although it operates in secrecy, the group has started pasting notices on building walls ordering residents to pay huge ransoms or get ready to be attacked.
A resident, Ekene Ugwu, said they pasted one of such notices in the neighbourhood around Ibagwa road and people were panicky. He said that some residents including lawyers in the area have notified the police and taken precautionary security measures. But the Enugu State police command has told residents to go about their daily businesses as the police were handling the situation.
The police spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu disclosed that the police had picked the telephone numbers dropped by the author of the letters in various homes, for further investigation.

The Governing Council, Federal University of Technology, Minna on Wednesday approved the appointment of Prof. Musbau Akanji, of the University of Ilorin as the institution’s Vice Chancellor.
The university’s bulletin ”Campus News” stated that the approval was made during the council’s 97th special meeting held in Minna on November 20. Akanji is expected to succeed the outgoing vice chancellor, Prof. Muhammed Audu, whose tenure expires on November 26, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The appointment, signed by the Pro-Chancellor, is expected to take effect from November 26.
Before his appointment, Akanji was a part-time lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry of the university and had supervised 20 Masters and 16 Doctoral theses.
He is a member of many professional bodies including the Science Association of Nigeria and Nigerian Society for Experimental Biology. He has over 150 scholarly publications in books and journals.
Akanji had worked as a Research Biochemist at the Nigerian Institute of Tryponosomiasis Research Vom, Plateau State.

24-Year-Old Man Breaks Record, Gets Arrested After Being Caught With 15 Prostitutes

While most prostitutes appear in court MINUS clients, Tapiwa Musara (24) scored a first as it were, as he was the only man charged along with the 15 alleged thigh vendors. Tapiwa, along with 12 self-confessed hookers, readily pleaded guilty to soliciting for the purposes of prostitution while three pleaded not guilty.

The three vehemently denied saying that they were not thigh vending, but they were just girls who were having some good time. The convicted 13 were slapped with US$20 fine and the court did not give them any time to pay as the fine had to be paid forthwith. Failure to pay the fine attracted a 10-day imprisonment sentence.

State led by prosecutor Tendai Kabudura proved that on 13 November, at around 8pm in the CBD, Tapiwa along with the 12 had been nabbed by the cops after they were unlawfully and intentionally solicited for prostitution. It had been proved that they were standing along the streets luring men for sex in return for cash.

They had all been asked what they were doing at the streets corners and they failed to give satisfactory answers leading to their arrest and appearance in court. The other three suspected prostitutes who pleaded not guilty to the charge will be back in court on 22 November for trial.

Two Sent To Jail For Stealing Goat In Abuja

Two persons were last Wednesday sentenced to three weeks imprisonment each by a Grade 1 Area Court sitting in Gwagwalada for stealing a goat.

Abdul Ibrahim and Pankyes Ishaya, both of Phase II Gwagwalada were convicted for joint acts and theft, which are offences contrary to Sections 79 and 286 of the Penal Code.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Haruna Suleiman, said on November 9 at about 2pm, one Mohammed Suleiman reported at the Gwagwalada Police Station that the two accused persons on the same day stole a goat belonging to the complainant’s mother.

When the charges were read to them in court, they pleaded guilty and Judge Hassan Ishaq Mohammed sentenced them to jail without fine option.

In another case, a 19- year-old Ahmadu Yahaya was jailed for two months for joint acts and theft, which are offences contrary Sections 79 and 286 of the Penal Code.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Haruna Suleiman, told the court that on November 8 at about 2:19 pm, one Chidi Onah reported that the accused and one other person now at large, jointly went to his shop and stole a gas cylinder valued at N8,000.

The accused pleaded guilty when the charges were read to him and Judge Hassan IshaqMohammed sentenced him to two months imprisonment or to pay N4,000 as fine. The court also ordered that the recovered gas cylinder be handed over to the rightful owner.
