Earlier this week, I made a post on how to use HTML Iframes to embed YouTube Videos to your website or blog. In the post, I focused mainly on making you understand the use of Iframes. (Very important for web developers)

Today, I am going to tell you how to embed YouTube videos to your blogger blog easily.

There are three ways to embed YouTube videos in your Blogger blog posts :

Method #1: Add YouTube Videos using “Insert a Video” option in Blogger:

This is Probably the easiest way to add YouTube videos in blogger.

use the built-in “Insert a Video” feature that is provided in blogger post editor

Go to Blogger >> Add a New Post and Click on the “Insert a Video” icon.

See screenshot below

Since we want to add a video from YouTube, select “From YouTube” from the list of multiply options that you can use to insert videos into your blog posts.

In the search box, type a title of the video or search for any video. Once searching is complete, click on the video thumbnail and press the “Select” button to add it in your blog post.

Once you’re satisfied, press Publish button.

Method #2: Add YouTube Videos using Embed Code

One of the most used method to add YouTube videos in your blog posts is by using embed code.
You only need to grab the embed code of the video and paste it in the HTML editor of your post. Don't freak out , it is very easy and here is how to do it.

Head over to the YouTube video you want to embed and look for the button " share". under the share Button, you will see the "Embed Tab"; Click on it, then grab the highlighted code of that video.

Now go back to your blog word editor. click on HTML button and paste the code where you want the Video to appear in the post.

Method #3: Add YouTube Videos using Share Button

YouTube allows you to directly share their videos on your Blogger blogs through their “Share to Blogger” feature that is provided to every video that is uploaded on blogger.

To directly share YouTube videos to your Blogger site, go to YouTube.com and open up any video that you like.
Now, click on the share icon.

You will now notice a bunch of social networking sites that you can choose to share the video. Since you want to share this video to your Blogger site, click on “Blogger icon” as you can see in the screenshot below:

After clicking on Blogger Icon, a new window will pop out. From the list of your blogs, select which blog you want to share this video and press the “Publish post” button.

This post was written for those who need to retrieve a Youtube username, Channel ID or Playlist ID for anything. Most especially for those who want to create a YouTube subscription link and Button for their website and Blog.

How to Get YouTube Username, Playlist ID and Channel ID:

Go to the Youtube Page you want to copy the name of.
Look up in the url of your browser for your YouTube Name, it will appear after http://www.youtube.com/
Copy only the name after the url youtube.com. Example http://youtube.com/user/ThrasherMagazine. You would only want to copy the ThrasherMagazine portion of the name.

The Same applies to the Photos below. This one is for the Playlist ID.

This one is for the Channel ID.

You can also get your Channel ID by going to your YouTube Account Settings, Under "Overview" Then account information.

It’s really easy! Make sure that your YouTube channel has its own ID (for example, BusyBrainz Tutorials YouTube Subscription ID is UCTYe140wATiv-HOTh4HRZJg), then replace my Channel ID in the following URL with yours.

http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTYe140wATiv-HOTh4HRZJg?sub_confirmation=1

If your channel has Username and not random characters (your channel URL would have /User/ in it instead of /Channels/), then format the URL slightly differently.

http://www.youtube.com/user/REPLACE_WITH_ID?sub_confirmation=1

If someone uses that link, they will be taken to your YouTube channel. If they are not already subscribed, they’ll see a front-and-center box prompting them to subscribe.

If the visitor is already subscribed to your channel, they will not see this subscription box, but will see you channel as they normally would.

How to Use Bold, Italic, Strike Through Text in Google Plus

Google Plus let you post status, comment, message text as bold, italic and strike-through. This can help you get more +1 and visits to your website when used appropriately as it makes your post even more attractive. See how to add these features in Google Plus below.

Use Bold Text in Google Plus

If you want to write bold text in the Google Plus status, comments or message then start your text with star “*” and end with “*” (start without the quote). For example “*This is Bold*” will appear “This is Bold“.

For writing italic text in the Google Plus status, comments or message then you must start your text with the underscore ‘_’ and end with ‘_’ without the quote. For example “_This is Italic Text_” will show as “This is Italic Text“.

You can also Use a Chrome Browser Extension for adding Bold, Italic, Strike Through Text in Google Plus

For the lazy people like you and I, a largehearted man named Paul Sperry have made a simple and easy to use chrome browser extension for using bold, italic, strike through text in Google Plus. You can get the extension named “Post Editor for Google+” from chrome web-store and if you have any doubt it is free.

After installing the extension restart the chrome browser and log in to your Google Plus account. Try to write a status and you will see buttons below the box for bold, italic and strike-through. Also, there are several symbols added too.

Just select any portion of your status and just click the buttons. It will automatically add the required symbols in the status. For example; if you click on the bold button it will add star sign ( * ) at start and end of the selected post. Once done just click “Share”.

How to Backup, Restore and Install Blogger Template - [DBM-blog]

Blogger template is a combination of XML and HTML; a XHTML format which can parse all the snippets as XML.

How to Backup Your Blogger Template

Way-1 (recommended)

For backing-up you Blogger template;

Go to Blogger Dashboard > Template.
Click “Backup/Restore” on the tor right corner of the dashboard.
A dialogue box will open.
Click “Download full template” button.
After that click Yes/Save if the browser asks you conform download.

Way-2 (also OK! for the experts only)OR; you can also;

Go to Blogger Dashboard > Template.
Click “Edit HTML”.
Copy the whole template code. (CTRL+A then CTRL+C)
Create a new notepad in the computer
Paste the copied code.
Save it.

In most tips and trick about blogger you will find in the website; you will see that backing up of the template is always Recommended.

How to Install a new Template in Blogger

As we have have informed you Blogger template is an XHTML and Yyou backed up template or a new custom template will be saved in ‘.XML‘ format.

Way-1 (recommended)

Go to Blogger Dashboard > Template.
Click “Edit HTML”.
Select the whole template in the template editor.
And paste it with the copied template from file.
Click “Save template’.

Why You Should Backup you Blogger Template

You may be an expert on Blogger or a complete novice; you sometimes do have to edit the template. Before you make any new changes to your Blogger template you should make a backup copy of it. Few reasons are:-

Blogger template is complicated. Though Blogger automatically identifies the errors on the template editor before saving it, it is possible you might make and it’s not showed in the template editor.You might be hit with an BX-ERROR. Or you may see some error message like this on the blog.

Importance of Backing-Up your blogger template

If you accidentally delete or edit any portion of the template’s code.
After editing; if you are not happy with a new made change in the blog’s design and want to go back to the original/former design.
Remember that for most on-page SEO for Blogger blog’s is done in the template. Any error in editing the template will cause a catastrophe.
It’s just good sense to backup you template before editing as it enables you restore and reset changes safely (with ease).

The Problem with Blogger Sitemap Files

An complete sitemap file should mention all pages of a site but that’s not the case if your blog is hosted on Blogger.
The default XML sitemap file of any Blogger blog will have only the 26 most recent blog posts – see example. That’s a limitation because some of your older blog pages, that are missing in the default XML sitemap file, may never get indexed in search engines. There’s however there is a simple solution to fix this problem.

How To Generate a Complete Sitemap for your Blogger Blog

This section is valid for both regular Blogger blogs (that use a .blogspot.com address) and also the self-hosted Blogger blogs that use a custom domain (like funflamesmedia.com.ng).
Here’s what you need to do to expose your blog’s complete site structure to search engines with the help of an XML sitemap.

Next go to your Blogger dashboard and under Settings – > Search Preferences, the enable Custom robots.txt option (available in the Crawling and Indexing section).
Paste the clipboard text here and save your changes.

Search engines will automatically discover your XML sitemap files via the robots.txt file and you don’t have to ping them manually.

PS: If you have
switched from Blogger to WordPress, it still makes sense to submit XML sitemaps of your old Blogspot blog as that will aid search engines discover your new WordPress blog posts and pages.

Note: You don't need to generate New Site Maps anytime you make post. Just Copy The old site Map Link, Test and Submit.

How to test your blogger template compatibility with template designer

Testing your template compatibility with template designer is very important for every blogger... If you install a non-compatible template on your blogger blog, then you will need to learn some basic html and CSS codes to be able to make changes to your blog.

Some Key Features of Blogger Template Designer:

Blogger's Template Designer, accessible via the "Design/Layout" tab when you log in to your Blogger's dashboard, provide a far wider range of basic designs and far more options for choosing the number of columns, column width, background images, footer structure, colour scheme, CSS options and lots more.

I used the "Template Designer" to modify one of the Blogger's Default Template (awesome template) to the current design of my blog, "@ DBM-Blog ".

If you download a Blogger template that is compatible with Blogger's Template Designer, you will be able to modify the template easily. You will be able to change the colour scheme and the general structure of the template etc In short, it makes it so easy for you to make your blog design look so unique.

If you download a Blogger template that is not compatible with Blogger's Template Designer, you will not be able to modify the template with Blogger's Template Designer. You will have to know some basic html/css skills for you to be able to modify such template via "edit html".

To test your blogger template compatibility with Template Designer, Login to your Blogger dashboard, go to Design/Layout and choose "Template Designer".

Click the Background and Layout tabs (down the left hand side)

If you see a message like "Not applicale for this template", this means your current template is not compatible with Template Designer but if you see options to change the image, colour scheme and column structure, then your template is a Designer template i.e it is compatible with Template Designer.

How To Centralize Title and Description of Blogger Blog

If you are not yet using an header banner or logo for your Blogger blog, you can still make the title and description of your blog to appear in the middle of your header by adding just a little line of code to your blog CSS file.II got this help from Ogbongeblog.com tips and it worked perfectly for me. So, I'm hoping it will work for you too. But none the less, I'm here to help.

If you are still using the old Blogger dashboard, you can log in to your blogger dashboard and switch to the new blogger dashboard so you can easily follow this tutorial.

Log in to your Blogger dashboard

Click on "Template" (on the right hand side menu). You will see something similar to the picture below:

Click on the "Customize" button. This will open up the "Template Designer"

On the left menu, you will see "Advanced", Click on it.

A new menu will appear by the right. Scroll down till you see"Add CSS". Click on it.

A box will appear by the right hand side. Copy and paste the code below in it

.Header h1, .Header .description{
text-align:center; }

Click "Apply to Blog" by the top right hand corner.

If you view your blog, the title and description should now be at the center of your blog header as seen in the first picture of this post.

That's all.

NOTE: If you downloaded a third party template that is not compatible with template designer, you need to follow the steps below to make it work.
1. ==> go to Template > Edit HTML > Proceed
2. ==> use CTRL F to find ]]></b:skin>
3. ==> right above it, paste the alignment code in the post above.
4. ==> Save the template and view your blog.

How to Install Blogger Template / Themes

Here’s how to install a Blogger template you’ve downloaded from another site:

Log in to Blogger, and on your Blogger Dashboard, click the Design link.
Click the Edit HTML tab.
Click the Download Full Template link and save it to your computer.
Make a note of the file name and where you saved it in case you need it later!
Unzip the template file you downloaded from another site.
Back on the Edit HTML page, click the Choose File button.
Navigate to where you saved the unzipped files on your computer, and double-click the one that ends in .xml.
Click the Upload button.

If you already have some existing widgets on your Blogger blog, you may get a warning message asking whether you want to keep them or delete them. If you want to preserve the work you’ve done before, click the Keep Widgets button. If you don’t need them anymore, click the Delete Widgets button.

When the upload is complete, you get a message at the top of the page that says Your Changes Have Been Saved.
Click the View Blog button to ensure that your blog looks the way you want it to look.

You may have to remove or move some page elements in order to get the template to display properly.

Some free Blogger templates you find on the web may be incompatible with the most recent version of Blogger. If this happens to you, you’ll either have to find someone very smart who knows how to edit XML, or you’ll have to find a different template to upload! You can also reinstall the template you downloaded as a backup, or use the Template Designer.
