Experts claim that spooning is a sign of a happy couple with a good sex life, but sleeping in a tangle could signal unhealthy co-dependency

Do you and your significant other sleep in a tangled knot, as a pair of spoons or could you not get further away from each other in the night?

Each one of these positions says something about your relationship, and you may be surprised at which are signposts for a happy coupling and which are signs of trouble.

According to an article by LittleThings.com, experts say that our body language when we sleep reveals a lot about our unconscious minds - right down to how we really feel about our partners

1. To spoon or not to spoon: The way we sleep with our partner can be telling of the state of our relationships, according to experts

The first position examined is the classic spooning position - both snug and loose.

Spooning in general is considered the sign of a healthy couple - and nearly a third of couples sleep facing the same direction.

Relationship psychologist Corrine said earlier this year that only a fifth (18 per cent) of couples actually spoon when they go to bed - despite the position being arguably one of the most traditional.

Corrine described it as a 'traditional position' that exposes a dynamic 'where one partner takes a protective stance over the other.' While other experts describe the position as 'sexual' and about trust.

Loose spooning, however, is apparently the matured and more secure version of spooning.

According to Paul Rosenblatt, author of Two in a Bed: The Social System of Couple Bed Sharing, this manner of sleeping evolves in couples who like to spoon and eventually revert to positions more conducive to quality sleep.

However, not only is spooning the sign of a 'happy couple' but not spooning can be a sign of trouble in paradise - and more specifically, trouble with sex.

Sex expert Tracey Cox narrated that: 'Few couples hug or spoon during sleep if they’re sexually frustrated or resentful.

She added: 'The partner who’s not eager for sex is worried any sign of affection will be interpreted as an invitation, the other gets the message any touch is unwelcome so stops trying.

2. Growing apart, together: Some positions, such as spooning, may start out snug and intimate in early relationships, and loosen as the relationship matures

3. 'The chase': This position could mean that one partner is playing hard to get or wants to be pursued

4. Love knots: Sleeping in a tangled up position is said to be associated with new relationships, but may not be a good practice in the long run as it could lead to dependency

Also great for the sex life: sleeping naked. Skin-on-skin contact is known to release the hormone oxytocin in the brain - called the 'cuddle chemical' - which helps relieve stress and can even increase your sex drive.

The next covered position is called 'the chase', which is similar to spooning, but involves one partner being in pursuit of the other.

According to LittleThings.com: 'This can mean two things. One that the person who is being chased wants to be pursued, or is playing hard to get.'

Lovers who sleep tangled up are among the rarest of sleep partners - only four per cent of couples claim to like it - and while it's an adorable thought, the practice is not always a good sign.

'The pose of new lovers smack in the middle of the I-can't-believe-I've-found-you bit,' said Tracey. 'If you’re still doing it years in, however, there’s a hint of Tweedledum-Tweedledee co-dependency'

In another variation, tangle sleepers may unhook from each other as they become more comfortable and eventually drift apart.

As with the loose spoon, this position is also considered a mark of a more matured, secure relationship than that of the tangled sleepers.

5. Loosening up: If a couple sleeps tangled but then drifts apart, it is a sign of a maturing relationship

6. A good sign: Couples who sleep facing apart are among a large - 27 per cent - of couples, and is a sign of a secure and connected couple

7. Back kissing: Those who face apart but still touch during the night are also prevalent with one in four couples admitting to sleeping this way

Though only eight percent of sleepers adopt this position Corrine said it's, 'a compromise between intimacy and independence, allowing for the best of both worlds'.

And on the other side of things are the couples who sleep apart from each other and facing away. But while this may seem to be the least intimate way for couples to lay together, this is actually one of the healthiest signs for a relationship during sleep.

According to Corrine, this position is a signal of couples who are 'connected and secure in themselves, this position shows both closeness and independence in the relationship.'

It is also one of the more popular positions with 27 per cent of couples opting for the practice.

A quarter of couples (23 per cent) like to sleep separately, facing different directions but with their backs touching - and not only is this often a sign of a new romance, but it also shows a good relationship balance.

'This is a good compromise and a sign you’re in good shape,' said Tracey. 'When awake, you’re likely to be affectionate and not afraid of intimacy but not overly needy either.'

Another position associated with new relationships is 'the nuzzle' - where one partner sleeps with their head laid on the others' chest.

8. Giving a nuzzle: The position where one partner sleeps on the other's chest is one of the rarer practices, with only four per cent of couples using it, but experts say it 'represents vibrant, passionate or rekindled love'

9. Loosening up: If a couple sleeps tangled but then drifts apart, it is a sign of a maturing relationship

10. Sign of trouble: A space hogging partner may be a selfish one in other parts of his or her life

Only used by four per cent of couples Corrine says the method 'represents vibrant, passionate or rekindled love.'

A partner who links legs with their partner is in need of an emotional or sexual connection - but also can mean that 'your lives are intertwined, that you function as a pair'.

There is also the 'space hog' position, that sees one partner sprawled over the majority of the bed, and can be a sign of selfishness in that partner.

The position, which Corrine calls 'the superhero' is described as when 'one partner dominates the space, while the other takes a secondary role.'

But what is the all-time worst sign that a sleeping position can reveal? According to Tracey, sleeping with heads at opposite ends of the bed is known as 'the post-argument or pre-divorce position.'

Similarly if you sleep more than 30 inches apart, it's clear that 'the relationship's not just over, repulsion has set in.'

Other relationship gauges include sleeping with the heads close, which means they are equals, and if they touch it is a sign of like-mindedness. Those who sleep with their heads close to the headboard are dominant while those with their heads further down are said to be submissive.

Not So Random Meetings

Instead of stooping to their level look for reasons, in your life, that make you happy. Focus your energy on the positive people within your life and how they affect your being. When difficult people partake in petty actions and emotions opt to be the bigger person and find a way to make the best out of the situation. In many cases, difficult people like the attention and thrive off of the constant depressive nature. 5. Have a Buffer

Whether it is a friendly face or an appointment, always be equipped with a buffer. The great thing about a buffer is that it helps you divert from any serious interaction. A faulty transformer exploded yesterday at about 11pm on Aminu Kano Cresenct Wuse II, Abuja was mistaken for a bomb.

According to an eye witness, the loud sound which was mistaken for a bomb blast was actually a faulty transformer located close to the club.

''When we heard the loud noise, everyone in and outside the club scrambled for safety as we now live in fear coupled with the fact that a rumour has been circulated earlier about a bomb in Zone 5,” the eye witness said.

"Though there were no casualties, but everyone within and around the club deserted the area at once and up till now I have not left my house which is located close to the club,” she added. She did add however that a few cars were damaged.

Mr. Olusola, who earned several chieftaincy titles, worked as an actor, playwright, and was a founding member of “Players of the Dawn,” an amateur outfit that dominated the theater scene until the end of the 1950’s decade. The influence and dominance of “Players of the Dawn” was only eclipsed with the establishment in 1960 of “Masks,” a more professional theatre troupe founded by future Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka.

Mr. Olusola had a reputation as one of Africa’s leading art connoisseurs. Thanks to his cultural enterprise, his family gallery, Ajibulu-Moniya Gallery, was transformed into one of Nigeria’s magnificent commercial galleries, which is open to the public.

Venturing into diplomacy, Mr. Olusola became Nigeria’s longest-serving ambassador to Ethiopia, representing his country in Addis Ababa from 1987 to 1993. Given his background in the arts, it was no surprise that his diplomatic career was marked by the deployment of the tools of arts and culture to pursue the goals of deepening relations between Nigeria and Ethiopia.

Italian Man Accused Of $111,000 Fraud Commits Suicide In EFCC Custody

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC regrets to announce the passing of 52 years old Italian, Mr. Mauro Zanin, a suspected fraudster two days before he was scheduled to appear in court.
He was found motionless in the bathroom of the Commission’s detention facility in Abuja at about 4.50 am on June 19, 2012. He had apparently committed suicide using his bedsheet. All effort by the duty officers and a team of EFCC medical personnel led by Dr. Gideon Osi of the Commission’s Medical Unit to revive him with cardiopulmonary resuscitation proved futile. He was subsequently certified dead at about 5.45 am.

The deceased was arrested by Officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service following a complaint by one Ahamefula Chibuzor Ewuzie that he fraudulently obtained the sum of $111,000 from Gladwaters Nigeria Limited, and transferred to the Commission on 30th May, 2012 for further investigation.

MILITANTS, CULTIST Clash at Igninedion University ... 2 beheaded

One person was feared dead, while 15 people were injured and over 50 vehicles burnt yesterday, during a clash between ex-militants, who were registered in the igbinedion University Okada, Edo State and suspected cultists.

The burnt vehicles belonged to students and staff of the university.

Popular Hollywood actress, Meagan Good has now joined the ‘Mrs Club’.

The 31 year old actress married film maker, Devon Franklin on Saturday, June 16, 2012 in California.

Speaking on why she chose Devon, the actress said he ‘makes me better, makes my life fuller, and completes my quality of life… He’s truly on my team and I am truly on his. God revealed my heart to him like nobody else.’

The strictly by invitation Spanish and Bayou wedding played host to 400 guests, including Tracey Edmonds, Derek Luke, Deion Sanders and Tasha Smith.

The couple met six years ago, but didn’t get together until they worked together on the movie ‘Jumping the Broom’ in 2011.
