Foreword from book, ' This is an English version of the book entitled Fada il-e-Qur'an originally written in Arabic by the Imam Muhammad bin 'Abdul Wahb, an eminent Muslim Scholar, and translated into Urdu by Maulana Mahmud Ahmad Ghazanfar, Mab'uth, Dar al-Ifta, Government of Saudi Arabia. "Each verse is like a date: the more you chew it..."

1 - The Messenger of Allah said:

"Whoever wants to to love Allah and His Messenger, then let him read the Mushaf."

['Sahih al-Jami''; # 6289]

2 - Ibn 'Abbas narrated:

"al-Walid bin al-Mughirah (a polytheist) came to the Messenger of Allah. The Messenger of Allah recited the Qur'an to him, and al-Walid seemed to become affected and softened by it. Abu Jahl came to know of this, so, he came to al-Walid and said: "Don't you see that your people are collecting charity for you?"

He said: "And why is that?"

Abu Jahl replied: "So that they can give it to you, as they see that you went to Muhammad to get some of his food."

al-Walid said: "Quraysh knows that I am of the wealthiest of its sons."

Abu Jahl said: "So, say to Muhammad something that would convince your people that you oppose him."

al-Walid replied: "And what can I possibly say? There is not a single man who is more knowledgable of poetry or prose than I, or even that of the Jinn, and by Allah, what he says bears no resemblance to these things. By Allah, what he says has a sweetness to it, and a charm upon it; the highest part of it is fruitful and the lowest part of it is gushing forth with bounty; it dominates and cannot be dominated, and it crushes all that is under it.""

[Reported by al-Hakim in 'al-Mustadrak' (2/506-507) and at-Tabari in 'Jami' al-Bayan' (29/156), and it is authentic]

3 - Jubayr bin Mut'im said:

"I heard the Messeger of Allah recite 'at-Tur' in the Maghrib prayer, and when he got to the verses {"Were they created by nothing, or were they themselves the creators? Or did they create the heavens and the earth? No, but they have no firm Belief. Or are with them the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the tyrants with the authority to do as they like?"} [at-Tur; 35-37], my heart wanted to fly from my body out of awe."

4 - 'Uthman bin 'Affan said:

"If our hearts were truly pure, we would never get enough of the Words of our Lord, and I hate that one day passes with me not looking in the Mushaf."

5 - Ibn Abi Mulaykah narrated:

"'Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl used to press the Mushaf to his face and cry, saying: "The Book of my Lord! The Words of my Lord!""

6 - Bishr bin as-Sirri said:

"Verily, each verse is like a date: the more you chew it, the more of its sweetness is released." Abu Sulayman heard this and commented: "True. It is the case with one of you that if he begins one chapter of it, he wants to read it to the end."

In the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

Aqidah linguistically is derived from the term aqada. In Arabic, one states, "Aqada the rope" when the rope is tied firmly. And, "Aqada the sale" or "He settled the sale" when the person ratifies and contracts a sale or agreement. And Allah says in the Quran, "And as for those whom your right hands have made a covenant (Ar., aqadat)" [Al-Nisa 33]. And Allah also says, "But He will take you to task for the oaths which you swear in earnest (Ar., aqadtum) [Al-Maida, 89] which means asserted and adhered to, as proven in the verse, "And break not oaths after the assertion of them" [An-Nahl, 91]. If one says, "Aqadtu such and such," it means his heart is firm upon such and such.

Therefore, Aqidah or I'tiqad according to the scholars of Islam is: The firm creed that one's heart is fixed upon without any wavering or doubt. It excludes any supposition, doubt or suspicion...

Sharh Aqeedah al-Tahawiyyah

By Ibn Abi al-Izz. Commentary by Allamah Ibn 'Izz Al-Hanafi on Imam Tahawi's Al-Aqeedah At-Tahawiyah. About the Author: A Hanafi Jurist, born in Taha (that's where Tahawi came from), a town in Upper Egypt. Both of his parents were learned and attended Imam Ash-Shafai's lectures. Became a Hadith scholar, but also developed an interest in Hanafi Fiqh. Thus, he was both-- a Muhaddith and a Faqih. He wrote many books, mostly on Fiqh. Compiled a brief list of Core Beliefs of Ahl-al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah, now known as Sharh al-'Aqidah at-Tahawiyyah. Imam At-tahawi said about this compilation: "This is a presentation of the beliefs of ahl-al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah..."

Book of Emaan

By Shaikhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah. The source of all evil is the deviation from the truth and its straight path. The goodness of all matters is the following of truth and adherence to its right way. Truth is the fixed state in which Allah has created every creature in a particular way and managed its affair in a certain manner. Allah is Perfect and exempt from any deficiency or error. This book aims to elucidate the pillars of Emaan (basis of belief, faith) and the characteristics of Kufr (disbelief) and its causes.

Explanation of al-‘Aqeedatul-Hamawiyyah

By Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh al-'Uthaymeen. Allah upholds His religion with His close helpers upon whom He bestows Eemaan, knowledge, and wisdom by which they prevent these enemies. They repel their plot back against their own throats. So no one ever comes out with his innovation except that Allaah – and for this deserves praise and thanks – destines to send someone from Ahlus-Sunnah who refutes and disproves his innovation and extinguishes it. He has many works on the clarification and explanation of the Sunnah, the reinforcement of its pillars, and the destruction of innovations. One of the works on this subject is his “al-Fatwaa al-Hamawiyyah” which he wrote as an answer to a question presented to him in the Hijrah year of 698 from Hamaah, a place in ash-Shaam. In it, he was asked what the scholars and Imaams of the religion say concerning the Aayaat and the Ahaadeeth of the Sifaat, or the attributes and characteristics of Allaah. So he answered in about 83 pages and due to which, he suffered trials and afflictions. May Allaah reward him on behalf of Islaam and the Muslims with the best of rewards. Due to the difficulty in understanding and comprehending this answer from many readers, I wanted to summarize the most important points from it along with some other needed additions. I have named it “Fathu Rabb-il-Bariyyah bi-Talkhees al-Hamawiyyah.”

This is our Aqeedah

“This is our ‘aqidah . Whoever possesses two eyes then let him read and whoever possesses hearing then let him listen!” All praise is for Allah, the Lord of the worlds, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful, the Master of the Day of Judgment. May the salah and the salam be upon the seal of the Prophets and Messengers and upon all of his family and companions. To proceed: This is a summary of what we believe in and what we worship Allah with from the most important areas of the din . I wrote it in my jail cell after it had reached me that there were some people who were ascribing things to us and putting words in our mouths that we have never said; in particular, in the areas of kufr and iman . Before this, I was never concerned with writing about the likes of this subject. That is because our scholars have sufficed and fulfilled in that.

In the light of His advice, profound injunctions and sever warnings, mankind becomes separated into two groups: a group who were guided and a group who deserved to be misguided. The groups who were guided are the inhabitants of Paradise and the groups who were misguided are the denizens of the Fire. The inhabitants of Paradise are the Awliyaa of the Most Merciful and the denizens of the Fire are the Awliyaa of Shaytaan.

He was an eminent Maliki scholar who specialised in fiqh and Hadith. The breadth and depth of his scholarship are evident in his writings. The most famous of then is his twenty-volume tasfir al Jami' li-ahkam al-Qar'an, Imam al-Qirtubi was a man of great modesty who disdained worldly honours and throughout his life wore the simple gown and cap of the ordinary Muslin. He traveled from Spain to the East and settled in Munya Abi'l-Khusavb. in Upper Egypt. where he died in 671H/ 1273

Over 1,300 martyred and more than 5,300 Palestinians wounded by Israel terrorist army in Gaza

The bombings have taken the lives of civilians including women and children, and have affected hospitals and medical warehouses. The 19 month blockade of Gaza has already severely restricted the capacity of local hospitals to cope with the injured, with many reported to have already run out of critical supplies.

The blockade of Gaza has also forced more than half of the 1.5 million population to be dependant on humanitarian assistance. International aid agencies have been struggling to provide food, medicine and clean water whilst the shortage of fuel has made it extremely difficult to run essential services in Gaza including power to hospitals and sewerage treatment plants. This new and severe onslaught has brought yet more misery to an already suffering people.

Lion of the Desert (Umar al Mukhtar)

We go back in history to 1862 where a young boy of a poor household was born in a town controlled by the Uthmany Khilafa. This young man was brought under the care and tutelage of one of the Shuyookh in his home town when he was at the ripe age of 16 after the death of his father. He eventually developed a lifestyle of not sleeping more than 3 hours every night in order to get up to pray to Allah at the last third of the night and recite Qur'an until fajr. He memorized the Qur'an (as all knowledgeable people begin their lives) eventually, and was known to have finished his revisions in its entirety every seven days, regardless of the sufferings he encountered in his life.

Muslims have been commanded by Allah to recite Soorah Al-Fatihah a minimum of seventeen times a day. This fact, in itself, should alert the Muslim to the extreme importance of this concise but deep soorah. Indeed, the Prophet (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) referred to it as Umm al-Qur’an or “the foundation of the Quran itself.” Its teachings aptly touch upon and summarize the entire spectrum of Islamic teachings. :: KAMPUNG NELAYAN (FISHING VILLAGE)

A visit to one of Kelantan's quaint fishing villages should not be missed. Two well known villages are Kuala Besar and Kampung Sabak, both only 15km from the capital.

Fishermen normally put out to sea at dawn and return in the early afternoon to sell their catch on the beach. Haggling over prices and the sorting and weighing of the catch provide an interesting cacophony against the picturesque backdrop of gaily painted boats lining the beach.

Waterfalls in Kelantan are major attractions for picnics and swimming.
Jeram Pasu is just off the Kota Bharu - Pasir Puteh road while
Jeram Lenang is off the Pasir Puteh-Machang road. Lata Beringin,
with its 120-metre drop, cool waters and lush vegetation is most
spectacular and is found off the Kuala Krai-Gua Musang Highway.

:: GUNUNG STONG

One of Kelantan's highest mountains, at 1,442 metres, it is reputed
to hold hidden treasure in Gua Ikan (Fish Cave), named after a solitary
fish-shaped rock. The treasure is said to have been hidden during the
Japanese Occupation.

:: THE NENGGIRI RIVER

The Nenggiri River is a favourite place for white water rafting. It is also
the venue of the annual Nenggiri Challenge. In a cruise along the
Nenggiri River, visitors can traverse ancient rainforests, prehistoric
caves and aboriginal settlements and catch glimpses of the shy jungle wildlife.
The small town of Dabong is the gateway to most eco-adventure activities
in the state.

:: THE KESEDAR INN

Located at Gua Musang old town can arrange visits to a goldmine,
a deer park, an ethno-botanical garden and aboriginal settlements as
well as organising river rafting and cave explorations. A summer camp,
complete with various obstacle and fitness courses, provides leadership
and youth training programmes.

:: PANTAI CAHAYA BULAN (BEACH OF MOONLIGHT)
Formerly known as Beach of Passionate Love, this is one of the most popular spots for some refreshing coconut water and local snacks while enjoying the sea breeze. The route to the beach is dotted with thriving cottage industries. Watch batil and songket textiles being made or get yourself a beautiful pareo or scarf. Wau or the giant kite is another popular item found here. Many comfortable chalets are available at the beach.

:: PANTAI SERI TUJUH (BEACH OF SEVEN LAGOONS)
Located in the Tumpat district close to the Thai border, this pristine beach is sheltered by the longest lagoon in Malaysia. Home to the annual International Kita Festival, the beach has a variety of food and drink stalls as well as public amenities.

:: PANTAI SABAK
As well as being a rendezvous for fishing boats, Sabak Beach boasts fine golden sands fringed by coconut palms. It is a perfect spot to picnic and relax while observing the return of the fishing boats. Gentle waves lap the shore while the water is warm and clear.

:: PANTAI IRAMA (BEACH OF MELODY)
	Approximately 30km south of the capital in the Bachok district, Pantai Irama offers choice picnic spots and eating stalls. It is reputed to be one of the most beautiful beaches along the East Coast.

:: PANTAI BISIKAN BAYU (BEACH OF THE WHISPERING BREEZE)
About 50km from Kota Bharu in the Pasir Puteh district, both north and south of the village of Semerak, the gentle breezes rustle the casuarina needles producing a hushed sound. Surfing can be good at certain times of the year, and wind surfers will find excellent sports.

:: PLACE OF INTEREST

The best place to appreciate Kelantanese culture and crafts is the capital
city, Kota Bharu. A bustling town famed for its ornately decorated
trishaws, Kota Bharu offers numerous attractions for the visitor.

:: GELANGGANG SENI (CULTURAL CENTRE)

Located on Jalan Mahmud close to the Perdana Hotel, the cultural
centre is a veritable showcase of the living heritage of Kelantan.
Demonstrations of popular folk arts and pastimes are held daily.
Wayang Kulit (shadow puppetry) shows, Silat (the Malay art of
self defence) performances, Gasing (Top spinning) displays,
Wau (Kite flying) and Rebana (Giant Drum) playing can all be seen at
the centre. Evenings see cultural performances featuring traditional
Malay music and Wayang Kulit.

The cultural centre is open three times a week from March to
October each year. Performance times are 3.30pm to 5.50pm
on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and 9.00pm to midnight on
Wednesday and Saturday.

:: HISTORICAL ZONE

The main cultural and historical zone of Kota Bharu is situated along
Jalan Hilir Kota and Jalan Sultan where many museums and heritage
buildings are located. Some museums charge a nominal fee for admission.

:: ROYAL MUSEUM / ISTANA BATU

The Istana Batu (Brick/Stone Palace) was constructed in 1939 during
the reign of Sultan Ismail. It houses the Royal Museum and was previously
used as the venue for royal weddings and as a guest house for visiting royalty.

The Royal Museum now serves as a repository for the history of the
Kelantan royal family and displays regalia, pictures, silverware, furniture
and palace items of former Sultans. Opening times 8.30am to 4.45pm
daily - except Fridays.

:: WORLD WAR TWO MEMORIAL / BANK KERAPU

Originally constructed in 1911, Bank Kerapu is now a repository for
documents, pictures and military paraphernalia of the Japanese
Occupation from 1941 to 1945. During the war, the building served
as the headquarters of the Japanese Kempetai, the feared secret police.

:: HANDICRAFT VILLAGE & CRAFT MUSEUM

While the Craft Museum houses many fine examples of Kelantanese
craftsmanship, the adjacent Handicraft Village provides visitors the
chance to see just how these crafts are made. Demonstrations of
traditional embroidery, songket weaving, batik printing, silver work and
wood carving are carried out by skilled artisans. Their products are also
in sale at the centre.

:: STATE MOSQUE

Construction of this mosque was completed during the reign of
Sultan Ismail IV after almost a decade of work. Also known as the
Al-Muhammadi Mosque or the 'Brick Mosque', it is the centre
for Islamic missionary activities in the state.

:: ISTANA BALAI BESAR

Built by Sultan Muhammad II in 1840, the Istana Balai Besar was
formerly the residence of past Sultans. However, it is now used solely as
a venue for official state functions. The palace boasts a large audience hall,
a throne room and a fine collection of royal regalia.

:: ISTANA JAHAR

Built in 1887 by Sultan Mohamad II for his grandson, Long Kundur,
the Istana Jahar has been transformed into a museum featuring Kelantan's
cultural heritage. Photographs and a great variety of artefacts bear testimony
to the rich Kelantanese cultural legacy. The building itself is laced with
intricate wood carvings, serving as an example of the fine craftsmanship of
local artisans.

:: ISLAMIC MUSEUM

The Islamic Museum traces the history of Islam in Kelantan.
Exhibits include Islamic Arts and Crafts and photographs of some of the
personal belongings of Prophet Muhammad and Islamic historical sites.
The museum reflects not only the importance of Islam in Kelantan but
also the position of the state as a centre of Islamic learning.

:: STATE MUSEUM

The State Museum located along Jalan Hospital incorporates the State
Art Gallery. The building itself was utilised as the land office from colonial
times until 1990 when major renovations were carried out to convert
it into a museum. The museum documents the arts, crafts and musical
traditions of Kelantan. Ceramic displays testify to the early trade with
China and artifacts from local archaeological sites provide evidence of the
existence of the pre-historic age in Kelantan.

:: OTHER PLACES

Other interesting sites in Kota Bharu include Merdeka (Independence)
Square, State Government offices and raft houses along the river banks.

The Sutan Ismail Petra Arch is a beautiful landmark in Kota Bharu. Neraby,
Padang Merdeka or Merdeka Square is a historical landmark. Situated within
is a World War I memorial that pays tribute to fallen war heroes. It is also
the site where the body of Tok Janggut, one of the country's most
famous nationalists, was hung. Originally named Padang Bank, it was
renamed Padang Merdeka (Independence Square) after the country's
independence in 1957.

:: FOOD IN KELANTAN

Kelantan Darul Naim is not only known with its variety of cultural but also
famous with its unique food. For centuries, the originality of the taste made
by the ancestors is not changed. For those who come to visit here must try
these traditional food. You will not forget the taste and for sure you will
dream to have it again.

:: NASI KERABU

It comes in three colors which are black, yellow and white. It is eaten
with raw vegetables as well as special 'sambal ikan'. It is taken as breakfast
and also for dinner.

:: NASI DAGANG

If you are in Kelantan, don't forget to try and enjoy eating 'Nasi Dagang'.
It is based on red glutinous rice and it is served with fish curry and raw
pickles.

:: NASI BERLAUK

This is the most Kelantanese favorite food. Simple and tasty. It is served
with white rice and fish curry it is traditionally cooked.

:: NASI TUMPANG

This special dish is a combination of various rice and curry which is arranged
layer in a triangular banana leaf wrapper.

:: LAKSAM

This type of food is based on rice powder and is served with white coconut
milk curry. This tradititional recipe is from fish and coconut milk.
When serving,
it is added with leaves eaten raw or 'ulam'.

:: SOLOK LADA

The unique of this type of food is where the filling is placed inside the chilly.
The filling is made from flesh coconut, fish fillet and coconut milk.
This tasty
food is suitable to take with nasi kerabu which is also Kelantan traditional food.

:: SAMBAL DAGING

The meat is cut into small pieces and cooked using special spice until it is truly
dried. It is delicious to take by itself or served with rice.

:: GULAI DARAT

This original spice curry is prepared using meat as its main ingredient.

:: BUDU

This food is based on fish and it is made into sauce. It is taken with grilled fish
or meat.

:: AYAM PERCIK

Grilled chicken with coconut milk sauce is traditionally cooked using
original ingredients as heritage. It is served as a special dish for the
family
members or special guests.

:: JALA MAS

This is a very popular cake or 'kuih' in Kelantan. It is based on eggs
and sugar
and it is known as a Royal Cake. It can only be found in this state.

:: LOMPAT TIKAM

It can be prepared for daily dish or served during special occasion.
This tasty
food is not only attracted the locals but as well as the outsiders.

:: TEPUNG PELITA

This food is based on flour, coconut milk and sugar. It has two layers.
The first
layer is coconut milk and for the second layer is flour and sugar.
It is put into
banana leaf which has been made as its cup.

:: KETUPAT SOTONG

This tasty food is made by putting glutinous rice into the cuttlefish
and it is
cooked with brown sugar or known as 'gula melaka' as its sauce.
It is eaten as
well as other traditional 'kuih'.

:: DODOL

It has varieties of colour and taste. It also has different name from
one
another based on the ingredients used. It is easy to get this food
in Kelantan.

:: LEMPOK

The ingredients are durian flesh and sugar. It takes a few hours to
make sure
the food is well cooked.

:: PULUT MANIS

This sweet dish is served as dessert. The ingredient is glutinous rice
which
is cooked with brown sugar.

:: PULUT BAKAR

The shape is round and it is wrapped in banana leaf.
The taste is
delicious
and it has sweet aroma.

:: PULUT PANGGANG

The shape is oblong and it is wrapped in banana leaf.
The cooked glutinous
rice is salt less but the filling which is coconut flesh and fish fillet make this
'kuih' the most favorite one.

:: TAIK ITEK

Although it is quite sweet but it is delicious to eat. The ingredients are eggs,
coconut milk and sugar. It has varieties of shape according to the chef.

:: BUAH TANJONG

It is sweet as well as its name. This food also known as a Royal Kelantan food.

:: PUTERI MANDI

This sweet 'kuih' is made from rice powder and taken with sweet flesh coconut.

:: AKOK

It is known as 'Akok Kelantan' because of its sweet aroma. The ingredients
are eggs and 'gula melaka'.

:: HISTORY

Recent discoveries at two caves known as Gua Musang nd Gua Cha in
Kelantan show that there were human settlements dating back to prehistoric
times. Historical records show that Kelantan was influenced by the Funan
Kingdom on the Mekong River. Chinese records indicate contact with
Kelantan which was referred to as Ho-Lo-Tan and which appeared
to be an influential kingdom in the region.

Kelantan was also a vassal of the Srivijaya empire and later the Siamese.
In the 15th century, the Malacca sultanate held sway over Kelantan and
eventually the Johor sultanate and the Terengganu sultanate took over.
In the 18th century the provinces came under a powerful warlord known
a Long Yunus, whose descendents make up the present royal family.

In 1900 Kelantan became a tributary state of the Siamese. With the
signing of the Anglo-Siamese Treaty in 1909, control was passed over to
the British.

:: GETTING TO KELANTAN

:: BY ROAD

There is an excellent network of roads linking major towns in Peninsular
Malaysia to Kelantan. From Kuala Lumpur, the overland route takes one
eastward along the Karak Highway to Kuantan in Pahang, a journey
of about 3 hours.

The rest of the journey from Kuantan to Kota Bharu takes about 5 hours.
The route heads northward along the coast passing through picturesque
villages providing scenic vistas of palm-fringed beaches overlooking
the azure waters of the South China Sea.

The inland route to Kota Bharu turns off the Karak Highway at
Bentong and proceeds northwards to Raub and then to Gua Musang, and
Machang before reaching Kota Bharu. An alternative route exits the Karak
Highway at Temerloh and passes through Jerantut, Benta and
Gua Musang en-route to Kota Bharu.

From Penang, one has to get to Grik via Sungai Petani in Kedah and then
travel along the scenic East-West Highway to Jeli in Kelantan before continuing
the journey to Kota Bharu.

There are regular air-conditioned express bus services operating from
Kuala Lumpur and major towns to Kota Bharu.

:: BY RAIL

Train services from Kuala Lumpur to Kelantan terminate at Wakaf Bharu
and Tumpat. From these two points, one can get to Kota Bharu either by
taxi or bus. Stop over points en-route include Gua Musang, Kuala Krai,
Tanah Merah and Pasir Mas.

Once you are in Kota Bharu, it is relatively easy to get to nearby districts as
regular bus and taxi services are available from the main bus terminal.

For those who are interested in visiting places of interest in the interior of
Kelantan, it is advisable to enquire with Tourism Malaysia Kelantan
Office, the Kelantan State Tourist Information Centre or any registered travel
agent in Malaysia.

:: BY AIR

Malaysia Airlines operates daily direct flights (five times a day) from the
Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to the Sultan Ismail Petra
Airport in Pengkalan Chepa. It is situated about 20 minutes outside the city.
The budget carrier AirAsia operates from the Low Cost Carrier Terminal
(LCCT) in KLIA to Kota Bharu four times a day.
