Recently I had been to Cochin for a vacation. On one fine evening, I, my Sister, Brother in Law and grand ma went to Cochin Shipyard. We went for a sail on a motor driven boat. There were around 30 members on the boat.

It was a breezy chill evening. We sat on a upper deck. I and grandma on one side; Sister and Brother-in-Law in opposite side. As we sat, a pretty girl in her twenties sat beside my sister. She had long smooth hairs and eye catching shape. She came with a elder person which I guess is her uncle.

My eyes automatically was turning to have a glance at her. Cool breeze kissed her hairs in a gentle swing. Breeze carried her fragnance to me, I was carried away by her beauty.

I made up my mind that some how I should have a word with her. I was glancing at her at every opportunity I get while speaking with my sister.

My sister whispered "Hmmm...I can see your eyes seeing someone else"?

I said "Hmm...Hey dear please initiate conversation with the girl beside you".

Sister: "Come on".. Don't you have guts to speak to a girl?

Me: "Are yaar" understand...grand ma is also here....

Sister: "Don't worry, she will not mind it...just proceed...

Me: Let me see...

I couldn't start a conversation with the girl as her uncle was right beside her. The girl was watching the other ships passing by..

Sister: You went for shopping DVD's...So what movies you bought?

Me: I got some Hindi movies...Humtum, Parineeta, Fanaa...

Sister: Hmmm...Fanaa... What is the meaning of Fanaa?

Me: I said Fanaaa....means....burnt in.....

As I was saying this, I heard some one speak "Destroyed in ..."

I turned my eyes, and was astonished to see the girl's eyes straight into my eyes! My heart rate jumped to 1000 beats/sec! Then she continued saying....

Fanaa means destroyed in Lovee!

I couldn't believe my ears...I said.."Please say it again"...

She said "Fanaa means Destroyed in Love...Love!"

I was speachless for a couple of seconds..

Then I grasped this opportunity and asked her so you watch Hindi movies?

She said "Ya", I do..

Me: Ok..

Then another straight staright one from her: "What's your name"?!

I said: "Kiran....Kiran Kumar" and asked her "What's your name?"

She said "Soniya"

Then we started having conversation with eachother.... I could see surprised look in face of my sister...

Me: Soniya, so you study in Cochin?

Soniya: No, I am stuying M.B.A in Pune.

I was shocked! I immediately said, I am also from Pune!

Soniya: Oh! So what do you do in Pune?

Me: I am working as a Design Engineer

Me: Where do you study in Pune?

Soniya: Symbiosis....

Me: Oh! I stay a couple of Kms from Symbiosis...

Soniya: Hmm...Is it ?

Our conversation went for around 10 minutes... then the I heard my sister say.. "Anna, Ship journey is over!"...

People started rushing through and so did I...

In matter of few seconds, Soniya vanished somewhere...

I looked around everywhere, but she vanished in the darkness. We didn't exchange our mail ID's nor phone number's because we were totally lost in conversation.

I felt like loosing a crore of rupees. I asked my sister, did you see her?

Sister said "No anna".

That was the end of a unforgettable lovely evening with a beautiful girl!".

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB928365) not installing

If you have Windows Automatic updates "ON", you may face problem of failed Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB928365). Automatic Update keeps on popping up that security update need to be installed. To get rid of this problem, follow this procedure:

1. Turn OFF Windows Automatic Update

2. Download .NET Framework 2.0

3. Go to "Add/Remove Programs" in Control Panel and uninstall the following in the same order:

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0
Microsoft .NET Framework Security Update
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 (If present)
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0

4. Install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0

5. Install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0

6. Now go to : Start>All Programs> Windows Update

7. Install all the updates that is displayed.

8. Now Windows is fully updated including KB928365 which didn't get installed earlier.

9. Restart Windows at any stage of installation/uninstallation as required.

10. Turn "ON" Windows Automatic Update.

'Life Is Beautiful' Virus!

Recently a chain mail has started making rounds. This one started way back in January 2002 and is till now circulated all over. The email says:

Important news

This information arrived this morning, from Microsoft and Norton.

Please send it to everybody you know who accesses the Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless email with a PowerPoint presentation called: "Life is beautiful.pps."

If you receive it DO NOT OPEN THE FILE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, and delete it immediately. If you open this file, a message will appear on your screen saying:

"It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful", subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC and the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, email and password.

This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon.

The antivirus Softs are not capable of destroying it.

The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself "life owner", and who aims to destroying domestic PCs and who also fights Microsoft in court! That's why it comes disguised with extension pps. He fights in court for the Windows-XP patent.

MAKE A COPY OF THIS EMAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS.

This is a hoax chain mail! There is no such virus infection from this mail.
So chill out even if you accidently happened to open this mail!

Essential Softwares for Windows XP®

If you are using Windows XP on your system, you need some extra tools to keep it running in optimum speed and good condition. After installation of XP, you also need to install some must have programs to see that your PC is up-to-date. So here goes the big list of all must-have programs recommended by me.

Antivirus Software

If you are running Windows XP without a antivirus program, you are in trouble. Antivirus program is essential for your PC. There are thousands of virus in the computer world. These transmit from one PC to other in many ways. Internet is the major transmitter. Downloads from internet and even improper browsing habits is suspectible to virus infection. Removable media's like Pen drive, CD, Floppy can also transmitt virus. So your PC needs a antivirus program which will be scanning each and every file that gets into your PC. In other words, you need a antivirus software which has On-access scanner. It remains active and keeps scanning your PC. Due to this, antivirus program will use some of your system resources. But since it is essential, you need to choose an effective antivirus program which also uses mimimal system resources.

If your PC is connected to internet, I recommend AOL Active Virus Shield.

AOL Active Virus Shield

AOL Active Shield is a free antivirus program for personal use. It uses world's popular Kaspersky antivirus engine and also hourly updates. It has On-Access Scanner and automatic updates. It works with Windows 98, 2000, ME & XP.

avast! is another good free antivirus program for personal use. It is VB100 and ICSA lab certified program. It has automatic updates. Executable updates can be downloaded from the website and accordingly avast! can be updated in a internet connectionless PC. It can work on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4 (No server), 2000 (No server), XP and Vista

avast! will run on your PC without "Registration Key" for 60-days. Later on one need to get a free registration key by providing email ID. avast! will send the registration key free to the email ID.

Important Note: Never install two or more antivirus programs. It will make system highly unstable and decrease performance.

Antispyware Software

Spyware are rapidly spreading around and pose more threat these days. Increase in on-line activity like Internet banking, emails with sensitive info etc have accelerated the number of spyware on web. Spyware is a program installed in a computer to leak out personal info like email account passwords, Internet banking passwords etc or to take control of the PC remotely without the users knowledge. Hence the name "Spy". So you need a On-Access scanner. In the free segment, there are less players giving this option. But I have chosen some best combo for your PC.

Windows® Defender

Windows Defender is a free program with On-Access scanner. It protects your computer against pop-ups and security threats caused by spyware and other potentially unwanted software. It supports Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 and Windows XP Service Pack 2

Windows Defender is available for free download to users running genuine Windows.

Spybot- Search & Destroy

Spybot S&D detects and removes spyware. It doesn't have On-Access scanner. Hence there will be no problem installing it with Windows Defender. It supports Windows 95, 98, ME. NT, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, PE, Mobile, Linux and Unix.

After installation, you need to manually update the definitions.

Firewall Software

A firewall program protects your PC from unauthorized remote log-in of your system in network. If your PC is connected to internet, a firewall is essential. Else all your data in the computer can be accessed by unethical hackers via network connection. All though Windows XP comes with a in-built firewall, I still suggest to install a good external firewall. I recommend Comodo Free Firewall.

VLC Player

If you're worried about storing your data and files, why not create a virtual encrypted drive to store your important data?

Even if someone manages to hack in to your computer or, in the worst case, your machine is stolen, the hacker wouldn't be able to access any of the encrypted files.

CryptoExpert creates encrypted virtual disks and these disks are visible as usual disks with drive letters (for example, G:, H:, Z:, i.e. with any drive letter that isn't in use by other system devices).

The data stored on a CryptoExpert disk is stored in the container file. A container is a file, so it is possible to backup a container, move or copy it to other disk (CD-ROM or network, for instance) and continue to access your encrypted data using CryptoExpert.

Any free drive letter (or chosen letter) in the system may be used to mount and to open an encrypted file-container for access.

When your virtual disk is opened, you can read and write data as if it were a conventional removable disk.

You can do anything with a CryptoExpert virtual drive that you can do with a normal hard drive, but with CryptoExpert, the encrypted volumes require password authentication before the files become accessible.

How many times you faced the problem of not able to open a file in a cybercafe due to particular s/w not installed in that system. Most often.. right? What would you do in such scenario? Being frustrated, you would google for a freeware, download it, install it and then try opening your file. Monsoon holiday to Thoseghar Waterfalls

The monsoons are cherished by all picnic lovers looking out for scenic picnic spots to visit during this season. Thoseghar is one such place. Located 135 km from Pune, it is famous for its high waterfalls, serene and quite surroundings, a clean lake, and wooded, hilly surroundings.

The best season to visit Thoseghar is between July and November, when a plethora of small waterfalls, falling from heights of 15-20 m, enchant visitors with their natural beauty. There is also a bigger waterfall, 500 m in height, which is the star attraction.

We decided to go on an excursion to Thoseghar on Independence Day, for what better way can there be to celebrate it than to become truly independent and move away from hectic city life, even for a day or two?

The journey

The journey began early in the morning at 6:30 am, with the four of us (Kiran, Karan, Vipin and Jai, on two bikes). I set my bike’s distance meter to read zero so as to track the distance travelled. It may sound like a long journey to cover 135 km on a bike, but then, when it comes to going on picnics, we are pretty adventurous.

As the journey began, a cool breeze and slight drizzling made for just the right riding atmosphere. The roads, as usual, were pathetic, especially the section that began as we passed through a tunnel just on the outskirts of the city. The road was full of potholes and my bike’s suspensions were put to extreme limits of endurance. I would like to suggest this road to bike manufacturers for their testing routines.

After covering a distance of about 45 km, we halted at a restaurant for breakfast. The television was broadcasting the prime minister’s address to the nation. As the national anthem began, we all stood up to pay our respects. I heard the restaurant owner chastise a waiter, asking him to stand up as well. The fact that we did not miss the Independence Day celebration even while on our way to a picnic made me feel happy. A "2-in-1 independence" is how I would call it.

The next section of the journey was more exciting with a long, smooth road that seemed to ignite our passion for speed. I began cruising at high speeds, while my friend on the other bike stuck to the decision of not exceeding a speed of 60 km / hr, as per the manual guidelines, before it had travelled at least 2,000 km.

It felt awesome riding through lush, green valleys, reservoirs, and hills, even as we shouted ‘Oooooo!!’ all through the way. My bike’s reading now showed a reading of 80 km. It was time to confirm our route, so I stopped near an old man. He confirmed we were on the right track. Our next stop en route was Satara. After enjoying some snacks here, we resumed our journey.

After riding for another 35 km, we began looking out for banners that displayed route names. I tried to confirm the location of our friend on the other bike. It looked like we had lost them, as even they could not confirm their exact location on a mobile call. An interaction with a traffic policeman added to the situation when he went ahead to interrogate us. It seemed like the best way was to try and reach Thosegar independently.

The road we were on passed through a tunnel that led to a steep hill. As rain kept pouring at regular intervals, the view from the place became scenic. Yet there was danger, for there were no side barriers, and a slip could land one right at the bottom of the hill, trashed into pieces. Dense fog at certain place reduced visibility to just a few metres, with steep curves at some places, and made riding with caution a necessity. Yet the roads were smooth and the ride comfortable.

We stopped at a dhaba for a cup of garam chai and I tried to contact our friends on the other bike whom we had lost some time back. But there was no mobile network available — no way to ‘express’ through Airtel, no ‘connectivity’ with BSNL, no ‘idea’ on Idea Cellular! Technology was at its worst at the isolated place. I unsuccessfully rode back about 5 km to look out for them, and then decided to go ahead and reach our final destination.

Indeed, as we reached our picnic stop at around 1:00 pm, we found them at Thosegar. They overtook us some time back without our knowledge. This has still remained a mystery. For there was, and is, only one route to the top.

The waterfalls

After a sumptuous meal of rotis and egg curry, we went to see the waterfalls. The view of the biggest waterfall, 500 m in height, was breathtaking. It began to rain and no matter how much one felt like taking a dip below the fall, it was not allowed for recently, someone met with an accident here.

After taking our fill of the beautiful and serene surroundings, it was time to go back. We rode together till Satara, and from there it was a straight ride to Pune. The climate now was at its best, with a cool breeze and the setting of dusk adding to our happiness. We took short breaks for snacks and tea, it felt heavenly as we were all wet and shivering with cold.

We returned to Pune around 8:00 pm and had dinner together. It is always so pleasant to go to sleep after a long and tiring day. Incidents of the day kept flashing across my mind as I fell unconscious into a deep slumber.
