Thugs Beat-up Teacher, VP For Flogging Oba-of-Benin's Grand-daughter

Teachers of the Federal Government Girls Secondary School in Benin City, have threatened to down tools over an attack on some of them by some suspected thugs.

We gathered that the suspected hoodlums invaded the school Monday and manhandled some teachers over the alleged flogging of a student in the school by one of the teachers.

The flogged student is said to be a granddaughter of the Benin Monarch, Oba Erediauwa. She was allegedly injured on the hand after being flogged by the teacher.

Thugs who stormed the school the thereafter demanded to see the teacher that flogged the girl. When their demand was not met, they resorted to manhandling the teachers around, including one of the Vice Principals.

State Chairman of TUC, Joe Aligbe who confirmed that the thugs were armed and threatened to return if the staff was not produced, said the flogging incident which took place two weeks ago was not reported to the school authorities.

“Our members are now afraid. We are here to appeal to them for calm. The principal is not aware. I know the Benin Monarch will not approve of this action,” he said.

Vice Principal, Special Duties, Mr. Ihiridan Harga said the school management team are new and was not aware of the flogging of a Benin Princess, adding: “The alleged offence was committed before we resume here. We were not aware of the flogging. They were many and led by two chiefs. We didn't even know the staff they claim that beat up the granddaughter of the Oba of Benin. They started beating up everybody. The principal invited the police and the police said they must get invitation by writing before they come. The police didn’t come.”

The Public Relations Officer to the Benin Palace, Robinson Osayamen said he was not aware of the incident. He however confirmed receiving calls from journalists on the incident.

The Lagos State Government yesterday announced that the 3rd Mainland Bridge will be completely shut down tomorrow Sunday Oct 14th to allow the contractors to do the concrete casting of the expansion joints currently undergoing repair works on the Oworonshoki-bound section. The government explained that the concrete casting and drying process requires zero vibration, and that's why they are shutting down the bridge from 6.am to 12 midnight. NDLEA nabs man who concealed 2.4kg of cocaine in pendants and female belts

Oluigboka Chukwuemeka Emmanuel thought he had cleverly concealed about 2.4 kilogrammes of cocaine in pendants and female belts.
But his luck ran out when he was intercepted by Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement officials.
The 33-year old suspect had just disembarked from a flight from Brazil when he was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed international airport in Lagos, southwest Nigeria.
“During search, powdery substances that tested positive for cocaine were found in his bag. It took several hours to extract the cocaine from the pendants because of the complex method of concealment,” said Mitchell Ofoyeju, NDLEA Head of Public Affairs.
The agency’s airport commander, Mr. Hamza Umar, disclosed that the drug was factory packed inside assorted pendants. He described the mode of concealment as unusual.
“This mode of concealment is strange and it is the first time of discovering drugs inside jewellery,” he said.

Umar explained that the drugs were industrially packed in ear rings, buttons, necklaces, bangles as well as in female belts.
“We had to forcefully open them to recover the drugs. The entire quantity of cocaine found in the jewellery products weighed 2.472kg. One arrest has been made in connection with the seizure,” Umar said.
NDLEA said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, who had lived in Brazil for over five years, is believed to be working for a suspected Brazilian-based drug syndicate.
The suspect was quoted as saying, “I needed money for the burial anniversary of my late father. As the breadwinner, everybody is looking up to me for the sponsorship of the anniversary. I have lived in Brazil for over five years but I have no money to undertake this important family responsibility. My interest was the 2,000 euros they promised to pay me”.
Oluigboka is married and has a child. He hails from Imo State. The arrest took place last week.

A Missouri couple is suing a team of doctors for allegedly decapitating their baby during delivery and trying to cover up the stunning surgical mistake.

Parents Arteisha Betts and Travis Amonnette of Florissant, Missouri filed a lawsuit in September, claiming obstetrician severed their baby’s head from his body while tring to yank him from the birth canal during childbirth.

The couple accused doctors of forcing them to have a vaginal birth when the mom to be Betts was scheduled by another doctor to deliver through C-section.

Dr. Susan Moore allegedly told the couple during a February 2011 appointment, that their baby had an unusually large stomach and would not be able to be delivered through a normal birth.

However, when mom Betts reportedly went into premature labor on March 22, only 28 weeks into her pregnancy and was rushed to St. Johns Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, the delivery doctor on duty, Gilbert Gibbs, forced them into attempting a vaginal birth instead of the C-section Dr. Moore had proposed.

Dr. Gibbs allegedly flatly refused to deliver the baby unless the mom did a normal birth. The doctor also stopped them from going to another hospital. That was where everything went horribly wrong.
The complaint:

Defendant Webb applied sufficient traction to the axilla and head of decedent Kaden Travis Ammonette during Webb’s attempt to deliver decedent vaginally that defendant Webb separated decedent Kaden Travis Ammonette’s head from his cervical spine.
When defendant Webb separated decedent Kaden Travis Ammonette’s head from his cervical spine, decedent’s body was still inside Arteisha Betts’ birth canal.

When defendant Webb separated decedent Kaden Travis Ammonette’s head from his cervical spine, blood from the arteries and veins in decedent’s neck shot out, splattered and/or spilled out into the labor and delivery room in plain view of and in close proximity to plaintiffs Arteisha Betts and Travis Ammonette.

At the time that defendant Webb separated decedent Kaden Travis Ammonette’s head from his cervical spine, plaintiff Travis Ammonette was approximately 2 to 4 feet from his son’s head.
The lawsuit reportedly claimed Dr. Gibbs, unable to get the baby out because it was a breached birth, continued to pull the baby out by the head, subsequently dislocating the spine and separating the head from the rest of the body. BloodBlood reportedly spurted out of the baby’s neck in full view of the parents.

The incompetent doctor reportedly tried to cover up what he had done by pushing the baby back into the birth canal, then doing the C-section he should have done in the first place. Only now it was too late and he is accused of cutting the mother open without even waiting for the anesthesia to take effect.
The hospital is not being sued at this time, but doctors Wilbert Gibbs and Susan Moore, Midwest Maternal and Fetal Medicine Services, along with Signature Medical Group, are all being held liable in the couple’s lawsuit.

M.I Rescued Accident Victim

During the early hours of Saturday, October 13, 2012, Chocolate City rapper, M.I came across a gruesome accident along Ikorodu road, Lagos, involving four people, and called for help via social media.

The rapper tweeted, ‘I’m presently at the scene of a serious accident…We have been here for almost an hour.. And no rescue service!!! Any one that can help. Opposite Obanikoro estate on Ikorodu road. One passenger looks like they are still alive and can make it.. But we need towing trucks and jaws of life to save him… Pls help. At least 3 girls dead, the driver still alive’.

The rapper, who was still there when the emergency services arrived, saw them pull out one of the passengers “One girl has been removed from the car and is dead… Pretty young girl.. My God…”

At about 4 a.m, the rapper and his team had left, and the victims had been taken away but a few people were gathered near the scene, watching officials of the Lagos State Transport Monitoring Agency (LASTMA) clear the debris and tow the damaged car, a white Toyota Camry with plate number, TF787KJA, away from the road.

Although no one could say for sure what the cause of the accident of the accident was, a few of the onlookers who spoke to us on the grounds of anonymity, assumed it was a case of either over speeding, drink-driving or both, as they suspect the victims could have been coming from a club.

One onlooker, a man in his late forties said ‘I’m sad and speechless, look at the damage. The way these youths ride cars these days, one just has to be prayerful. They speed so much…I pity these ones o, it’s such a loss’. As the conversations and speculation continued on the sidelines, the LASTMA officials busied themselves with removing the street light which fell on the car and hindered the flow of traffic.

Meanwhile, one of the officials confirmed to us that the accident was indeed ghastly, with only two survivors out of the four passengers. He added that they were all taken to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre. A doctor in the hospital, speaking anonymously, claimed that only one victim was admitted and has been responding to treatment.

M.I and his team were returning from Club Octopus, the venue of the Hennessy Artistry event, where he performed alongside Naeto C.

Reports from his team reveal that although the artiste found the sight shocking, he is presently at home, and in good condition.

However, he had a few words for drivers, which he shared on twitter: ‘Pls, people drive safely home, buckle up for safety and do not drink and drive. Also don’t let your drunk friends drive.’

2 Nigerian students to die by firing squad for armed robbery

Justice Theresa Igoche of the Makurdi High Court, on Tuesday sentenced two students, Vershima Kaachi and Akaazua Akpen, to death by firing squad for armed robbery.
The convicts were arrested on the eve of Christmas in 2007 for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, contrary to Sections 5(b) and 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990.

In his testimony, the victim of the offence, Jonathan Usenge, told the court that five armed men came to his house, attacked and robbed him of some valuable items on that day.

He stated that the robbers collected his Nokia 1600 phone valued N12,700.00, two torch lights valued N350.00 and a sum of N16,500.

He said the convicts were armed with guns and a hacksaw, and that the clothes they wore on the day of the robbery, his stolen phone and the hacksaw were recovered from them during police investigation.
The prosecution called three witnesses while the accused persons testified for themselves and also called three witnesses.

In his submission, counsel to the convicts, Mr Cletus Ujah, argued that the prosecuting counsel had not proved the allegation against his clients beyond reasonable doubt.

Ujah insisted that the victim was inconsistent in his testimony, arguing that the prosecution's evidence could not be said to be overwhelming to nail his clients.

He further argued that the prosecution failed to tender the hacksaw claimed to have been recovered from his clients before the court which, he said, amounted to withholding evidence.

But the prosecuting counsel, Mr Obande Idikwu, argued that the prosecution had made a case to warrant the conviction of the accused persons.

Idikwu submitted that from the evidence, it could be deduced that there was an agreement to commit an illegal act, which was pursued to a logical conclusion.
Delivering judgment, Igoche held that the prosecution had proved its case against the convicts and found them guilty as charged.

In an allocutus, Ujah pleaded for leniency for the accused persons, pointing out that they were each the only sons of their parents and young boys with a promising future ahead of them, noting that they had no records of previous conviction and were looking very remorseful, and urged the court to temper justice with mercy.
But the judge said the punishment prescribed for offenders under Section 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms Act was death by either hanging or firing squad, pointing out that it was subject to the governor's discretion.

Police shoot sales girl dead, injure 3 others

A 20-year old sales girl identified simply as Lucy, was on Friday was shot dead by policemen in the Apo area of Abuja. The girl was hit in the chest by bullets fired into a photography shop where she worked as a sales girl. Three other people sustained gunshot injuries when policemen from the FCT Police Command fired bullets indiscriminately in an attempt to enforce the demolition order of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council.

The policemen had stormed the area around 7 am with officials of Development Control Department, who had come to demolish illegal structures. But residents and indigenes, who felt that the government had no right to demolish their houses when they were yet to be resettled, resisted the operation.

They claimed that the case was still in court and that their leaders had advised them to continue to live in the area pending the determination of the suit. As the policemen shot indiscriminately to control the residents, bullets penetrated into one of the shops and Lucy was hit in the chest. She was rushed to Garki Hospital, but she was confirmed dead on arrival. Her body has been deposited in the mortuary. Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilson Inalegwu, met the House of Representatives representing

AMAC/Bwari constituency of the FCT, Zephaniah Jisalo, at the hospital when he visited. Inalegwu, who was in tears, assured the lawmaker that the case would be investigated. “We are not sure what took our men there or what led to the shooting, it’s still a matter for investigation,” he said. Emeka Ani, owner of the photo shop, where the deceased worked, said that his sales boy also sustained gunshot injuries during the incident. He said, “From morning, the police surrounded our area. They said they came for demolition. All of a sudden, they started shooting sporadically. They shot into my shop and killed my sales girl. My boy also sustained injuries. Lucy has been with me for about one month. Her sister brought her for me from Cross River.” The National Coordinator, Greater Gbyagi Initiative, Mr. Gimba Baiza, described the incident as wicked.
