Was going to do a meme but couldn't find one I wanted to do. So... today is the last day of work at the library this week. Love my job, but love being home too. :-)

I have a LOT to do here, not the least is packing up Christmas. When I was growing up, it was considered bad luck to leave Christmas up through the New Year... now more and more people are going with The Twelve Days of Christmas and leaving things up til Epiphany (tomorrow). Still others undecorate their tree, but leave it up for the next holiday and decorate it with Easter eggs or springtime ornaments.

Me? Yes, my tree is still up... but not particularly because of Epiphany. Because I'm (are you sure you're ready for this) lazy when it comes to taking it down. This year, however, part of the reason is because we were so busy after Christmas getting the site changed over...and I'm still so excited about it. Long and Short Reviews looks SO pretty! Sometimes I will go to the site just to look at it...LOL.

It's been a while since I've played... let's see if I remember how to write :-)

Tactic; noun: An action or strategy carefully planned to achieve a specific end.

Zenith; noun: The highest point reached by a celestial or other object; the point in the sky or celestial sphere directly above an observer; the time at which something is most powerful or successful.

Cheri stared at the envelope in her hand...what should she do with it? She could post it and let the naughty pictures do the job they were meant to do, but would that be the best tactic? Should she wait until the affair was at its zenith and then post the pictures? Or should she destroy them and trust that the poison barb of suspicion would solve the problem without any more direct action from her.

Good morning, all. Here are ten books, in no particular order, I'm looking forward to reading this coming year.

1. The Flight of Gemma Hardy by Margot Livesey: a retelling of Jane Eyre, set in the 1960s and in Scotland. One of my favorite books set in one of my favorite countries. Couldn't turn this one down.

2. A Grown Up Kind of Pretty by Joshilyn Jackson: Joshilyn is a Georgia gal, and just writes darn good stories.

3. The Wind Through the Keyhole by Stephen King: a new addition to the Dark Tower series.

4. Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare: love Cassandra's series!

5. City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare: see #4.

6. The Soul by Stephanie Meyer: a sequel to The Host, Stephanie's adult book that was more science fictiony (and, imho, better written) than the Twilight series.

7. The White Glove War by Katie Crouch: this is the 2nd book in her Magnolia League series. When I read The Magnolia League, it was refreshing to read a paranormal that didn't depend on werewolves or vampires.

8. Written with my Own Hearts Blood by Diana Gabaldon: If you've read (and loved) the Outlander series, this one is a no-brainer.

9. Seeds of Antiquity by Alan Bradley: the next book in another series that I love--Flavia de Luce: a precocious 10-going-on 11 amateur detective and would-be poisoner set in 1950 England

10. Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness: the second in the All Souls trilogy that began with A Discovery of Witches

And.. there you have it. Ten books I'm looking forward to reading this year. What are you looking forward to?

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I know. That was yesterday. But, it's the first time on my blog in FOREVAH...so I wanted to wish all of you a "Happy New Year!"

We (meaning Marianne)are exhausted after the relaunch of our website Long and Short Reviews. It's been renamed, redesigned, and we will be offering more than just romance reviews, interviews, etc. We are expanding our horizons and hope to soon offer more genres for your reading pleasure.

So, once again, I'm turning over a new leaf... hope to do a lot more posting this year. My poor blog misses me.

Had a strange dream last night (not that it's that uncommon from other nights): I was starring in a Doris Day movie. In the dream, I knew I was in a movie, playing the part Doris played...of course, on waking, I don't know of any play she was in that had her being pelted with dead fish, Rock Hudson yelling at the teenagers, "Why are you throwing fish at an old lady?" and being more insulted by the "old lady" remark than by the fish! If you know this movie, please let me know. :-)

I went to Marianne's to ~~steal~~ get inspired by her quiz for the day, but she hasn't posted yet... so to start the New Year right... here's my own quiz:

Yes, friends, neighbors, and countrymen... someone has STOLEN the women's restroom sign. If you see it wandering the streets aimlessly, please return it to the staff. We miss it.

A patron called to renew some books. When I told I needed her library card number, she replied, "I'll have to call you back. It's in my car which I left in my purse."
Yep, would be handy for when the parking lot is full. Just push the button and stick your car in your purse til you are finished shopping.

I had to call a patron to let them know a book had come in from them. When I asked for her, the person on the other end asked who was calling. I said, "This is the library. Is this her mother?"

Today is the day we in modern America (and other parts of the world) celebrate as the start of a new year-- a time to start afresh.

Traditionally, people make New Years resolutions...and soon break them. However, I'm going to be brave and do it again this year.

1. I want to exercise more and take advantage of the wonderful elliptical machine my husband bought me a few years ago.

2. I need to lose weight. Our oldest daughter is getting married in July and I don't want to look like a beached whale on the beach.

3. I plan to be more regular with my blogging and visiting my blog friends.

What about you? Any New Year Resolutions in store?

A Look Back at 2010

As we come to the end of the year, I wanted to take a look back and see what was going on. So, I bring you the first post for each month:

January: Hi, All.... popping in to fulfill my New Years Resolution about getting back to my blogging... and I can't think of a better way than sharing this with you. I had high hopes, but I also started working full time at the library. What a shock to the system. Between work, LASR and WC, Goddess Fish, and my family... well, as you can see I kinda fell down on the blogging.

September: Yeah Yeah Yeah... I know I've said it before.. but this time I really mean it :-) Yep, my next blog post was nine months later. I could have had a baby! (Not that I want one at my age...lol)

October: It's a conundrum: when the economy is bad, people use the library more-- they stop buying books and start borrowing; instead of Netflix or Red Box, they check out DVDs; they come in and use the computer to look for jobs. This was a fun post-- a video. As a matter of fact, it's worth posting again

November: Happy Monday Music Memories! Today, I want to know which song made you cry. I started a new meme called Monday Morning Memories, because I wanted to do something on Monday's and couldn't find a meme I really wanted to do. Feel free to play along :-)

December: This post is part of the Virtual Book Tour for What Choices We Made, Volume II-- an awesome collection of short stories. One of my favorite people, Sandy Lender, contracted Goddess Fish for her latest Virtual Book Tour. It was a lot of fun and I encourage everyone to check out her site.

And...that's it for me for 2010. Hopefully, I won't go nine months between postings any more!!!
