Can you imagine this. Tenor united to be called united tenors and behold it was good.

Years back, Fred Hammond introduced a contemporary male group to Gospel music in the '80s when he formed the seminal ensemble Commissioned. The truth is The Commisioned changed the look and the sound of the genre forever.

Recently, it fell onto Fred's heart to once again assemble a group of men to sing praises to God. He called vocal powerhouses Dave Hollister, Eric Roberson and Bryan Courtney Wilson and formed the UNITED TENORS, which he describes as "men worshiping, inviting and gathering other men to come and worship." Hammond says that UT will be another instrument used by God to lead families and communities to have a fresh experience with the Lord.

The first single from the upcoming CD is "Here In Our Praise," a beautiful ballad that finds the men united in voice and heart to exalt the name of the Lord. "Here In Our Praise" was just serviced to radio, and will be available on iTunes and also as a ringtone on February 19.

In our exclusive interview with the Sheard family, Karen talked about her role as a first lady and revealed exciting plans about her next album.

About being a Pastor’s Wife

Karen: We all play different roles at the church. I am the first lady. A lot of people think that because I

oversee the praise team that I mostly sing at my church. I want to make it very, very known that I am not the leader of the praise team, I just oversee it. I barely sing at my church. One of the things that I despise is when people think that because I sing that is what makes [my husband's] church. Our church is totally built on the Word of God.

I sing periodically but not very much because I’m totally involved in woman’s ministry at the church and in the youth ministry and in different organizations like the feeding program. I want people to know more of that about me, rather than thinking that I’m at the church singing all the time. (laughs) The foundation of the church is the Word of God.

Bishop Sheard: A lot of times people come in town and they say, “Oh, I’m going to Greater Emmanuel.” But they will be disappointed if they come expecting that Karen or Kierra or Dorinda will be singing. The church itself was built on preaching; it’s a preacher’s church. We do have gifted singers but it’s all about the Word of God.

Karen: I’m in the process on working on my next record. We have already signed Jonathan Nelson and we’re looking to have other artists on the label.

GT: I’ve heard you say that Karew Records was a dream of yours, something like you’d always wanted to do. Tell me about that.

Karen: Karew Records is another one of my other prayers that have been answered. I’ve dealt with all types of record companies and I’ve had experience with secular companies, gospel record companies and I’ve been made lots of offers but I was really adamant about singing gospel music and I made a decision to stick with what I know is in my heart.

In dealing with those record companies, I’ve always said, “One day we’re gonna make our own decisions.” As I got older and gained more knowledge and understanding of the business and the industry, I decided I wanted to have my own record company and make my own decisions. Eventually, my husband really inspired me to branch out into doing this and making this decision because it has been so hard for me to step out and do things. I can see the vision but I never could put an effort to do it. He inspired me.

Behind my dream, is my desire to fulfill someone else’s dream by bringing in other artists. There is a lot of hidden talent out there and I want to be a mentor to them so they can represent God well. With some gospel record companies, you see a lot of artists getting out there and they have no one that’s showing them how to be presentable, how to be a good artist and keep a good image. These things are important to having a lasting career.

Acclaimed Actress, GRAMMY® Award Nominee, NAACP Image Award Nominee, and Dove Award-Winning Singer Tamela Mann received two NAACP Image Award nominations for the 44th NAACP Image Awards were announced during a live press conference from the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills, Calif. Mann landed nominations for Outstanding Female Artist and Outstanding Gospel Album (Traditional or Contemporary.)

“I give praise and thanks to the Lord for the many blessings that continue to come my way this year,” said Tamela. “I’m honored to be recognized by the NAACP in the categories among many talented artists. These are my ‘best days’.”

Tamela’s CD, BEST DAYS, debuted at #1 on multiple music sales charts, including both Billboard’s Top Gospel Album Chart and Billboard’s Top Christian/Gospel Chart and the Christian Music Trade Association’s (CMTA) Current Gospel Overall Chart and continues an impressive run in the top of the charts. The #1 single, Take Me To The King, written and produced by Kirk Franklin, remained at the top of the Gospel radio chart this week.

Tamela received her first NAACP Image Award nomination in 2010 for Outstanding Gospel Album (Traditional or Contemporary) for her album The Master Plan.

The NAACP Image Awards celebrates the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film and also honors individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors. Get excited! Samsong releases new album “Blame It On The Most High”. Samsong is not a new name in the Nigerian Gospel music scene with such hits like ”Bianule”, “Odogwu” and “Higher High” as well as a good number of awards to boot.

On the heels of his recently released fourth album, “Church Boy” and a successful South African tour, he’s back on the scene with a Gospel cum Dance number, “Blame It On The Most High”; which offers a very peculiar yet truly interesting sound as it blends the Euro-Dance feel with the Gospel message.

‘Marvin Sapp, Single Dad’ Docu-Series: Marvin Sapp Lands Reality Show with His Kids

Gospel singer Marvin Sapp will be joining the reality TV world with his new show, Marvin Sapp: Single Dad. The docu-series follows the life of recently widowed Sapp as he raises his three children and pastors a mega church

Open Rivers Pictures and Marvin Sapp have partnered up to deliver “Marvin Sapp, Single Dad” starring recording artist Marvin Sapp and his three kids, Marvin “ML” Sapp II., MiKaila and Madisson.

Coming this Fall ”Marvin Sapp, Single Dad” will chronicle the second chapter of Marvin’s life, after the passing of his wife of 20 years. Marvin Sapp, known for his mega gospel hits is now a single dad raising two teens and a tween while pastoring a church. Additionally, he is maintaining a music career and fighting off, “God told me you are my husband!” women. All this requires more prayer and skills than this dad think he has. The series is currently being pitched to digital, cable and broadcast networks. Hopefully the series gets picked up by a network, and we’ll get to see Pastor Sapp and his family conquers the small screen.

Every day is a new day," Sapp said in an interview with the Associated Press. “There are days when I get up and I cry, thinking of her. There are days thinking of her and I smile. There are days when I’m angry. Days that I’m not... we miss her.”

Sapp and his teenage children, Marvin "ML" Sapp II., MiKaila and Madisson, began shooting footage in the beginning of the year. Open River Pictures is now shopping the show to networks for distribution.

Tammy Williams, CEO of Open Rivers Pictures, said it was an honor and privilege to work with Sapp. "Marvin entrusted my company to document the second chapter of his and his kids," said Williams. "I think it is timely that the country sees a man, especially an African-American man, who is serious about family values and raising his children.”
