Most kittens are fairly easy to litter train and will generally begin to use a litter box soon after being introduced to one. Your new cat may already know how to use a litter pan, since many kittens learn to use it from watching their mothers. Keep in mind that cats can be very finicky. They can be easily put off by something for lots of reasons - some of which we may never understand!. That’s why its important to choose the right tray, and train your cat properly

Before you start litter training, its important to realize that cats normally desire to do their business outdoors. Unless they are marking territory, they prefer to go and then cover it up. Cats don’t instinctively like using a cat litter box; be sure to choose one that is acceptable to her. In order to achieve success with litter training, you will need to bear the following things in mind:

1. Buy the same type of litter that your cat has been using with the previous owner, or breeder. This will make training easier.

2. Choose a litter box that is easy for your kitten to use, and then fill the tray with litter to the depth recommended by the cat litter manufacturer – the tray should be deep enough to prevent the litter from been scattered over the floor whilst being used.

3. Place your litter tray in an easily accessible and traffic-free corner of the room – keeping it well away from your kitten’s food and water dishes. In some cases, it helps to provide your kitten with more than one litter box, to allow for greater access to a box in your home.

4. If you have more than one cat, you will need to ensure that each cat has its own litter pan in a different area. Most cats like to do their business in solitude, and are put off by having to share a litter box.

5. Acquaint your new cat to her litter box by putting her in it often, particularly after she eats. Remember to praise your kitten when she is in the tray, and praise even more when she does use it.

6. Keep your cat’s litter tray clean by removing any soiled litter regularly. Give the pan a throrough cleaning at least one every week. Because many household solutions can be harmful to your cat, its always best to clean the litter pan with a disinfectant made especially for pets. Because some cleaners may have a strong chemical smell, you should avoid anything with a heavy scent that your cat may dislike. It will deter him from using the litter pan. A pregnant woman should never clean a litter tray, due to the risk of toxoplasmosis.

7. Never leave your kitten alone without access to a litter box. Cats can develop cystitis if they are unable to relieve themselves for long periods of time.

Since cats don’t typically respond to verbal commands like dogs do, you need to be very patient during the training process. If you do find your kitten crouching and scratching in a corner of the room, you will need to pick it up immediately and place it in the litter box. Be patient with your kitten, most catch on to litter training quickly, but others require more patience. If you find that your kitten still doesn’t get the message, then you could try using a spray that is specially formulated to attract cats to their litter boxes. For the stubborn cat that decides to use furniture or another undesired area for relieving herself, there are cat deterrent sprays available to keep this from happening. If all goes well, your kitten will soon begin to use her litter tray herself without any further intervention from you.

Does the thought of a litter box make you cringe? Most people have the same sentiment towards litterboxes, as their reputation is a stinky and dirty one! Why not consider buying cat furniture to hide the kitty box?

We’ve all seen the bog-standard cat perch and scratching post, but why not treat your kitty (and your nose!) to a well-built cat condo with a built-in ground-floor cubby that’s works as terrific litter box housing? You can find a variety of cat furniture online, some include fuzzy balls that dangle from string or wire, carpeted inner housing for those frequent cat naps, as well as several hidden catnip stations to get your cat feisty for playtime! Those are just a few of the many different types of accessories you can find on cat furniture.

You may also find a piece of cat furniture known as a “bookcase climber,” which is a large piece of furniture with “step-like” segments that lead to hidden cubby-holes, sleeping areas, and play stations. While these can be great if you have quite a lot of room to spare, it can be overbearing if you don’t have a lot of room. If you don’t have a lot of space for kitty accommodation, you can look in to pet stairs, which come in a variety of sizes, colors, and styles. Some come with built-in compartments that are just wonderful for storage. You can find them in high-end fashionable wood, accentuated with molding, or standard carpeting.

A litter robot is also an interesting and practical option for solving your cat box problems. It is a spherical, dome-like, self-cleaning litter unit. The entrance is small to give your cat privacy. The litter robot automatically sifts through the litter and stores the waste in a carrier bag that can simply be taken out and thrown away. This unit is extremely efficient at keeping odors from escaping. It’s also intriguing to look at.

Are you starting to like the idea of cat furniture? It is very beneficial to hiding the litter box and its nasty smells. You can find cat litter furniture at many pet stores and online. In addition to cat furniture, those of you who own dogs as well may find the many uses of dog stairs to be beneficial to you and your pet. These can be found online in pre-constructed format or custom-built.

Bird house kits are fun projects that can be put together by an older child by himself, or can be constructed by the family together. There are also kits that can be used by boy scouts or girl scouts for certain projects, and can also be used by schools to help provide a fun way to teach children about the birds in the area after building homes for them to live in.These bird house kits are of different styles and sizes. Some of the kits are made for a particular species of bird while others are made to be more decorative for the individual to place in the yard. Other bird house kits are made for communities of birds or are a combination of a feeder and a nesting platform for the birds in the area.

Choosing a Bird House Kits

The benefit to buying a bird house kit as opposed to buying the materials separately and assembling according to a set of directions is that the kit already contains all that is required for the individual to put together the birdhouse. That is why these kits are such a fun purchase for children to put together. The instructions can usually be followed in a basic bird house kit by a child of the age of seven or older.More complex tools are not required as most of the time, the bird house kit can be assembled by the person with use of a hammer of a screwdriver.

Although these bird house kits are easy to assemble in most cases, they often do not offer the flexibility or variety of styles that some individuals might want for their bird houses. There are also individuals that might be more experienced in carpentry and want to experiment with designs of bird houses so that it looks and functions like they want it to do. These bird house kits will usually cost around fifteen dollars, but the more elaborate the kit, the more expensive the cost.

A typical bird house is about five inches by five inches on the floor of the house. The depth is usually around eight inches high to provide the depth needed for most birds to nest. There is usually some sort of ventilation slit under the eaves of the bird house so that air can get in while keeping the house protected from the elements. The bird house kits are often made to fit a particular size of bird, with the medium kits usually being adequate for chickadees, finches, nuthatches and other medium birds.

Sometimes, with all the hype about name brand pet food, natural pet food, and diet pet food, it can be a bit overwhelming when deciding which to feed your pet. While it very common for people to purchase pet food at a supermarket or pet supply store, an increase is showing in the number of people who are beginning to make their own pet food.

An article by Shirley Lipschutz-Robinson sings the praises of a raw food diet for all pets. Her argument revolves around the feeding habits of animals in the wild. She states that domestic pet diets lack the necessary nutrients to keep our animals healthy and active. Veterinarians report an increase in multiple diseases resulting from that lack of raw meat in both dogs and cats, according to the author.

Most pet owners, however, prefer to purchase foods produced specifically for pets. Pet food varies greatly in terms of quality. Certain brands (Science Diet dog food, Purina Puppy Chow) are more expensive and believed to contain more nutrients and therefore, to be better for pet feeding. Be sure you have fresh water available for your pet at all times.

The different types and brands of dog food are vast, and it can take a lot of research to find the right one for your dog. Most commercial brands of dog food offer moist canned dog food, dry food, and semi-moist food. Veterinarians usually do not recommend that you feed your dog semi-moist food on a regular basis, as there can be additives and chemicals in them to help them last longer. If you decide that you want to keep your dog on a more natural diet, there are all natural dog food available. A dog’s diet is half made up of carbohydrates, usually in the form of grains. When feeding a dog, the general rule is that puppy feeding should be done frequently throughout the day, and adult dogs should be fed once or twice a day.

Never feed your dog chocolate, onions or garlic in any form (fresh, powder, flakes), persimmons, plant leaves (potato, tomato, rhubarb), mushrooms, grapes / raisins, or macadamia nuts. Also, do not let your dog chew on dryer sheets or eat human vitamins. The chemicals are harmful to them.

Cats also have a variety of food to choose from, ranging from dry, to semi-moist, to canned (wet). As with semi-moist dog food, veterinarians do not recommend it due to the preservative chemicals it contains. Cats require a high moisture content in their food, therefore it may be a good idea to stock up on canned food, which has a terrific balance of moisture.

There are also foods which are unsuitable to feed to a cat, such as: dough that contains yeast, onions, mushrooms, plant leaves, garlic, sugary foods, raw eggs, salt, persimmons, macadamia nuts, and raisins/grapes. Regardless of the rumors that milk is good for cats, you should never feed a cat cow’s milk, as they cannot digest it properly. There are some brands of cat food which offer small bottles of milk, usually intended for kittens.

Pet owners are giving up their pets at an alarming rate.

This is just another sign of how credit card debt is affecting the American household. A family unit is more than just a legal guardian and 1.2 children, but also includes the family pet.

Humane Societies are seeing this on a consistant basis, people coming in, forced to make a decision that they see is is not in their control. Often they feel the stress and anxiety of credit card debt looming over their heads. This is an regrettable result of our current times.

Examples of people making the decision of dealing with their debt, or taking care of a valued member of the family have been showing up all over our country. From pet owners turning in their dogs in order to pay for medical bills, to people euthanizing their dogs and cats so they can afford to keep from falling behind on credit card debt and pay household bills. The economic ruin is making it ever more tricky for some pet owners to justify paying out as much as a thousand dollars annually or more on the medical care and food for their dogs and cats.

The population escalation at animal shelters around the nation shows how the frail economy is also reducing the pool of possible adopters.
The recoil effect has been overpopulation of shelters causing a faster rate of pets being put down, and many shelters turning away families looking to give up dogs. Of the estimated 6 million to 8 million dogs and cats sent to animal shelters every year, over half are killed what is left is placed.

Having no option but to abandon a family pet can exact deep emotional scars on a family unit, more so on the children who don’t know about economic stress. We cannot expect them to be aware of the difficult decision their parents have to make, giving up their family pet to ensure after they pay their bills and debt they can be fed and clothed.

The only other option for many people other than abandoning their pet is to dig themselves out of debt. Debt settlement companies can help families lower their monthly house hold expenses eliminating their need to make the grim decision to allow their pet to be killed. The more people understand that there are options; the less stress will be put on the local shelters trying to deal with this issue on a daily basis.

Another suggestion is to find a person or family member willing to temporarily adopt your family pet. This would allow you to rest easy knowing they are well taken care of and loved. This would allow you to take time and create a debt reduction plan putting them in a position to once again make their companion a part of the household again.

At around three weeks old, your puppy is readily able to adapt to new situations and because they are one of the smartest creatures by nature, potty training puppies will not be too difficult for anyone.

As a new puppy owner, you have an option of whether you want to confine your dog or not. Crating is what many puppy parents prefer for accident prevention overnight night or when they have to leave their puppy for a period of time. However, some people would want to train their puppy to become more responsible by giving the dog access to everything but with limitations and restrictions. This might sound a little harder than the other method when you consider their playful behavior and uncontrollable urges, but if you choose to use this, here are the tips you can consider:

You may actually instruct your puppy to go potty out of doors or indoors on newspapers. Nevertheless, no matter which method you pick, you need to be very consistent. You can also use paper training for a short time or until your puppy is learning to do its business in the right location outdoors or indoors, but you must teach your puppy step-by-step until it finally learns its potty routines.

Whether out of doors or indoors, you have to choose a spot for your puppies potty time. Get your puppy to sniff that spot and wait until it finally relieved itself and take the puppy to the same spot each time. The scent that remained will help stimulate him/her to use the spot again the next time he needs to eliminate.

For young puppies, take them out with a leash or carry them to the designated spot within 20 minutes or immediately after each meal, after play sessions, and after rest sessions. Scheduling is the key factor for effective house training of a puppy so again, you have to be consistent. Be sure to use the same schedule each day but also watch for the signs that your puppy needs to go potty.

Each and every time your puppy goes potty, give it a command such as "go pee" or "go potty" to build an link between the command and its potty break. Quietly repeat it as many times as needed until your puppy gets familiar with it. This way, it'll be easier for him or her to grasp and follow the same command the next time it's used.

When potty training puppies, you can expect that there would always be mistakes and accidents. A puppiy can be just like a baby because they can't tell if they need to go potty or not. Be sure to watch out for the warning signs such as sniffing or squatting and then immediately distract the puppy by clapping your hands or stamping your foot while directing them from the restricted zone.

Finally, praise your puppy with an encouraging words like "good puppy" or "good job" when he performs in the right spot. Let him or her know you are pleased by giving a small reward like allowing the puppy to play inside he house. As soon as he or she becomes more responsible and dependable, you can let the puppy move around the house freely.
