30 HABITS THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Developing good habits is the basic of personal development and growth. Everything we do is the result of a habit that was previously taught to us. Unfortunately, not all the habits that we have are good, that’s why we are constantly trying to improve.

The following is a list of 30 practical habits that can make a huge difference in your life.

You should treat this list as a reference, and implement just one habit per month. This way you will have the time to fully absorb each of them, while still seeing significant improvements each month.

Health habits

1. Exercise 30 minutes every day. Especially if you don’t do much movement while working, it’s essential that you get some daily exercise. 30 minutes every day are the minimum recommended for optimal health.

2. Eat breakfast every day. Breakfast is the more important meal of the day, yet so many people skip it. Personally, I like to eat a couple of toasts in the morning along with a fruit beverage.

3. Sleep 8 hours. Sleep deprivation is never a good idea. You may think that you are gaining time by sleeping less, when in reality you are only gaining stress and tiredness. 8 hours are a good number of hours for most people, along with an optional 20 minutes nap after lunch.

4. Avoid snacking between meals. Snacking between meals is the best way to gain weight. If you are hungry, eat something concrete. Otherwise don’t. Update: for clarification, I mean don’t eat junk food between meals, but eating real food it’s ok.

5. Eat five portions of fruits and vegetables every day. Our body and brain loves getting vegetables and fruit, so I highly recommend eating as much of them as possible. Five portions is the dose that’s usually recommended by many health associations.

6. Drink one glass of water when you wake up. When you wake up, your body is dehydrated and needs liquid. Make the habit of drinking one glass of water after you wake up in the morning. Also, drink more during the day.

7. Avoid soda. Soda is often one of the most unhealthy beverage you can find. Limit your consumption of soda as much as possible and you’re body will be grateful for that.

8. Keep your body clean. I don’t advise spending your day in front of the mirror, but a minimum of personal care does never hurt.

9. If you smoke, stop it. There’s no reason to smoke anymore, and quitting is possible.

10. If you drink, stop it. Same as above. Don’t think that alcohol will solve your problems. It never does.

11. Take the stairs. This is just a hack that forces you to do a minimum of exercise. Instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs.

Productivity habits

1. Use an inbox system. Make the habit of keeping track of all the ideas and things that comes to mind. You can use a notebook to do this, and then sync everything on your computer.

2. Prioritize. If you have a list of things to do, where do you start? One way is to prioritize your list. If you are in doubt, ask yourself: “If I could only accomplish one thing today, what would it be?”

3. Plan, but not too much. Planning is important, and you should decide in advance what you are going to do today or this week. However, planning for more than a few weeks is usually inefficient, so I would not worry too much about that.

4. Wake up early. Waking up early in the morning is a great way to gain extra time. I personally like to wake up at 5 am, so that by 9 am I have already accomplished what otherwise would have taken me many days..

5. Check your email only twice per day. Email can easily become an addiction, but it’s usually unnecessary to check it every 10 minutes. Make an effort and check your email only once or twice per day, see if the world will still rotate as before after you try this.

6. Eliminate unimportant tasks. Being busy all day does not mean you are doing important stuff. Eliminate every activity that’s not important, and focus on what really matters.

Clean off your desk and room. Having a clear room and desk is important to maintain focus and creativity.

7. Automate. There are a lot of tasks that you need to perform every day or every week. Try to automate them as much as possible.

8. Set strict deadlines. When you do something, decide in advance when you’re going to stop. There’s a rule that states that you will fulfill all the time you have available for completing a task, so make an habit of setting strict deadlines for maximizing your productivity.

9. Take one day off per week. Instead of working every day, take one day off per week (for example sunday) where you are not going to turn on your computer. Use that time for doing recreational activities like going for a walk.

Personal Development habits

1. Read 1 book per week. Reading is a good way to keep your brain active. With just 30 minutes per day you should be able to read one book per week, or more than 50 books per year.

2. Solve puzzles. Quizzes, word games, etc. are all good ways to exercise your brain.

3. Think positively. You are what you think, all the time.

4. Make fast decisions. Instead of thinking for one hour wherever you are going to do something, make your decisions as fast as possible (usually less than 1 minute).

5. Wait before buying. Waiting 48 hours before buying anything is a tremendous money saver, try it.

6. Meditate 30 minutes per day. A great way to gain clearness and peace is through meditation. 30 minutes are not a lot, but enough to get you started with meditation.

Career habits

1. Start a blog. Blogging is one of the best way to put your word out. It doesn’t have to be around a specific topic, even a personal blog will do.

2. Build a portfolio. If your job is creating stuff, building a portfolio is a great way to show what you are capable of. You can also contribute stuff for free if that applies to your work.

PM Declares Ramanujan's Birthday as ‘National Mathematics Day’

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh paid tribute to mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887- 1920), on the occasion of 125th birth anniversary. He announced that his birthday - Dec. 22 - would henceforth be a National Mathematics Day and 2012 would be the National Mathematical Year, while addressing an event celebrating the famous mathematician, in Chennai on Monday.
The Prime Minister declared "as a tribute to the great mathematician, our government has decided to declare his birthday, that is December 22, as the National Mathematics Day and the year 2012 as a whole as the National Mathematical Year," according to a statement by the Prime Minister's office.
The statement also spoke of the country's "long and glorious tradition of mathematics" and encouraged people to nurture the subject.
Singh called Ramanujan "one of the greatest mathematicians the world has seen, whose extraordinary genius so very brightly lit up the world of mathematics in the second decade of the last century" and added that his genis was ranked by English mathematician G. H. Hardy in the same class as giants like Euler, Gauss, Archimedes and Isaac Newton.
The Prime Minister also spoke about the gradual decline of mathematics as a subject, pointing out that the country made considerable headway in the subject in the early years of the Common Era, only to see the subject lose centre-stage to other subjects. It took, he stressed, Srinivasa Ramanujan's contributions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to truly bring the country back to the attention of mathematicians across the world.

Recently I have attended a National Mathematics Conference held at Indore from 26 Dec 2011 to 29 Dec 2011. The topic was “TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION”. An exposure to graphic calculators by casio and texas instruments , use of iPad in teaching, some mathematical software’s such as geogebra, mathematica was given. It was a great learning experience.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO GREATEST MATHEMATICIAN -- RAMANUJAN

The Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan Aiyangar (1887-1920) is best known for his work on hyper geometric series and continued fractions.
Srinivasa Ramanujan, born into a poor Brahmin family at Erode on Dec. 22, 1887, attended school in nearby Kumbakonam. By the time he was 13, he could solve unaided every problem in Loney's Trigonometry ,and at 14 he obtained the theorems for the sine and the cosine that had been anticipated by L. Euler.
Ramanujan became so absorbed in mathematics that when he entered the local government college in 1904 with a meritscholarship, he neglected his other subjects and lost the scholarship. Ramanujan married in 1909, and while working as a clerk he continued his mathematical investigations. In January 1913 Ramanujan sent some of his work to G. H. Hardy, Cayley lecturer in mathematics at Cambridge. Hardy noticed that Ramanujan had rediscovered, and gone far beyond, some of the latest conclusions of Western mathematicians.
In 1914 Ramanujan went to Cambridge. The university experience gave him considerable sophistication, but intuition still played a more important role than argument. In Hardy's opinion, if Ramanujan's gift had been recognized early, he could have become one of the greatest mathematicians of all time. His patience, memory, power of calculation, and intuition made him the greatest formalist of his day.
In 1918 Ramanujan was elected a fellow of the Royal Society and a Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge. However, the story goes that , Ramanujan’s health deteriorated greatly while he was in England, and he eventually had to travel back to India in 1919. He died a year later, when he was only 33 years of age, although his work will be remembered for a long time. He dealt with Riemann series, the elliptic integrals, hyper geometric series, and functional equations of the zeta function. Hardy liked to rank mathematicians on a scale of 1 to 100, and he gave himself 25, Littlewood 30, David Hilbert 80, and Ramanujan 100, which shows just how great Ramanujan was.

Second Intra School Mathematics Olympiad- RESULT

Dear All,

The Second Intra School Mathematics Olympiad was held on 23 November 2011.

Hopefully, it was a great learning experience for all. It surely provided an extended platform for all the participating students and it is wished that it is utilized to its fullest.

As it was promised to declare the result on 22 December (hope you remember!) i.e. birthday of great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan who acted as a pioneer for many mathematicians. Despite of no proper training in pure mathematics he made special and extraordinary contributions in mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series etc.

Second Intra School Mathematics Olympiad

Dear All

Mathematics, often called as language of nature has become an integral part of everyone’s life. In today's highly competitive world, one has to bear a lot of mental stress and also have to get involved in so many things in order to acquire knowledge. This is where co-scholastic activities play a very significant role. They provide the much needed exposure for a student.
CRPF Public School has fulfilled its motto of striving towards excellence by organizing and successfully completing its Second Intra School Mathematics Olympiad on 23^rd November 2011. Around 450 students enthusiastically participated in the Olympiad held in school premises.

Such Olympiads and events provide a great and extended platform for the students to nurture and showcase their ability and talent. It was a towering learning experience for the students of the school from class III to XII. To encourage students, merit certificates will be given to those scoring at least 60% along with the normal prizes for the top scorers.

Second Intra School Mathematics Olympiad

The Mathematics Department of CRPF Public School is back with the Second Intra-School Mathematics Olympiad, to be held on 23 November 2011 (Wednesday) in the school premises only. The last date for registration is 18 November 2011 (Friday), so hurry up. Go, get yourself registered!

The Mathematics Department, striving towards excellence has welcomed all the suggestions, opinions and advices after the completion of last year’s First Intra-School Mathematics Olympiad and has tried its best to incorporate most of the valuable suggestions made by the students, participants, teachers, parents and others. As a consequence, unlike last year (where the entire question paper was objective), this year, participants will face a 40% subjective paper too. Making Mathematics Simpler!

Dear Students Of Class XII

It is observed that many a times, after teachers have explained certain topics and have discussed certain questions from the related exercise, not all the questions of the exercise are being solved/attempted by the students. It is practically impossible and undesirable for the teacher to solve each and every question in the class itself. The remaining questions are supposed to be attempted by the student at home. However, it is very much possible that the student is unable to successfully solve all of them.

After discussing this issue with the students, I have decided to make the NCERT textbook solutions available at my blog. The solutions are taken from www.meritnation.com. You can directly visit this website but you will first need to register there and the solution of only one question can be seen at a time. This might be a cumbersome process while you are checking your answers. Therefore, to save the student’s time and to make those solutions available to all the unregistered students as well, I have decided to upload the solutions here from time to time.

At the same time, I would want that the students do not check the solutions before they have tried the questions themselves. Hence, I’ll be uploading the solutions here only after the exercise has been covered in the class.

I’m also trying to upload the solutions of all the chapters which have been already covered in the school i.e. chapters 1-5.

Do you know what’s special about today, 22 July?
Well, today is Pi Approximation Day.

Pi Approximation Day celebrates the mathematical constant π (pi). It is observed on July 22, due to π being roughly equal to 22/7.

The fractional approximation of π ,²²⁄₇, resembles the date July 22 in the day/month format, where it is written 22/7. Pi Approximation Day is therefore celebrated on July 22.

In geometry, pi is defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. July 22, often written as 22/7, is an appropriate day to explore pi, since 22 divided by 7 is an approximation of pi.

Pi Approximation Day is celebrated in a number of ways, including contests to memorize pi to the most decimal places, solving math problems involving pi, discovering the history of pi, ruminating on how life would be different without pi and—of course—eating pie.

Models of Platonic & Archimedean Solids

Dear All

Finally, I am done… I had been working for the last three weeks over my birthday gift for myself! I have finally completed making the three-dimensional models of Platonic and Archimedean Solids. Yet again! Surely, those forty-fifty hours while I was making them paid off well.

Although I had made these solids five years ago as well but the methodology and the type of paper used then was not the best way they could be. And I figured that out soon when I saw those models perishing. But of course, my past experience helped me a lot this time.

I got the nets of these solids printed out on 12”X18” photo paper and then used ‘half-cut’ method on paper to get the proper nets and hence the solids.
