Skull is to brain as pot is to stew.
My skull: the superstructure upon which
the parchment of my face is stretched.
It supports the landscape which tells
the journey that got me here.
Inside my skull - that bony artefact -
is the brain gifted to me by
my mother’s, father’s mothers.

It encapsulates the ancient pathways
and neural channels of generations of begats.
It goes back to Poland and back to Minsk
and back to the Palestinian brain,
where that cast-off wife of Judah,
spurned by the side of the road,
feels biblical self-pity and cries
bitter biblical tears. The pomegranite
juice taste of those tears is passed to me.
There she dances in her skirt of shekels
in praise of the god who made the flowers.

Oh skull, oh coconut carved,
you’ve served me well.
You’ve given me a Slavic prominence
of cheeky cheekbones
and a jaw that’s articulated.
It moves up and down.
Zygoma, mandible, orbit:
tiny, workable bones, but tough.

cactus flower time

These cactus flowers astonish me. They appear out of nowhere over night and usually vanish in no time. This year they have been particularly prolific and long lasting. The cactus they come out of lives in an old boiling pot and is a very unattractive plant....and yet once a year this magnificence sprouts forth....filling all of us with admiration and gratitude.

It was with trepidation that I prepared my studio for a new body of work. All the old references and materials sorted. But I also look forward to the future.I have a vision of an Emerald shadowed world. of boats and Sydney. Here is my first offering. it is called Fountain and was inspired by the Archibald fountain in Hyde park in Sydney. I think My grand father Oscar had his photo taken there once. Perhaps it was on his wedding day I will never know but for what my dreams say.

This quiet little drawing has grown on me. It is on show at 775 Contemporary.When I first did it I left it alone for a while and then a few weeks later came back and added the blue. I was never really sure of it as it is so gentle. But now I think it might be my favourite one in the show...Shhh!! Don't tell the others....God I am so lame as if drawings can hear...or read....

Scare Crow

Last week my beloved white rooster was taken by a fox. My heart is inconsolable I loved that crazy pigeon toed little guy! As his revenge I have created the Scare Crow. If only he had been this scary to the foxes. I had to bury him it made me cry. This work can be seen at the 775 Gallery Flinders which opens on Saturday....I think I have figured out how to spell Saturday now....

This work is called MEAT and I am regurgitating and beefing it up for the show. So many puns so little time! The rain on the way is reeking havoc with my shellac and the drawing keeps looking different every time I go outside for a look see....I 've never said"look see" before...People eat meat and I love meat and its really important to remember that you are eating a living thing....or a dead thing when you eat....

It will be all drawings of animals I really like.....a bit self indulgent but I will need it after the Floating Worlds show which is starting to really freak me out because it is so big and carys such a load being all about dementia....So here is a little goat to lighten my day.
