MLM Training - The Secret to Being an MLM "Natural"

Saying the right thing at the right time with prospects can either make you a lot of money or cause you to lose money in your network marketing business. Continue reading to learn the MLM training techniques I teach my downline of 56,000 people so they know how to become a "natural" when talking with prospects.

In this article I am going to take your MLM training to the next level when it comes to effectively communicating with your prospects. That next level is for it to become "natural" to you as you speak with people about your MLM business opportunity.

There are several definitions for the word natural and it is very important that you know which natural I'm referring to.

1. Not acquired; inherent; born with. THIS IS NOT THE NATURAL I'M TALKING ABOUT.

2. Free from artificiality, or inhibitions. THIS IS THE CORRECT ONE.

Definition one is referring to something that one is born with such as blue eyes, seven feet tall, etc.

Definition two is that you can rattle off your address without thinking about it. Natural, as in the way you know a favorite song. Or something you've said or sung many times.

Okay - so how is it you know your address? My guess is, you moved in, you got your address and you had to do an address change with the post office. You pulled out the piece of paper your new address was written on and you reference it several times to make sure you wrote your new address correctly. Then you wrote it on a FedEx envelope and remembered it all accept the zip code - hmm, is it 92105 or 92150? You find out and now you have it.
If you never wrote it again you'd perhaps forget it again, but if you use it frequently you "just know it" - and you are certain you know it.

By the way...how is it that you know that the name goes on the first line, street address on the second and city, state, zip on the third line? That's the formula it goes in...right?

For inviting, to be natural and sound natural you must smoothly and correctly transition from one part of the "Inviting Formula" to the next. By the way, the "Inviting Formula" is taught in great detail in a CD set I authored called "Professional Inviter," but for reference in this article the Inviting Formula is:

Greet
Qualify
Invite
Handle any Questions/Objections
Close to Action
Follow-up or Follow through

So when you're talking about your MLM business or a product you offer, the trick to being a "natural" is to know exactly when to transition to the next step in the "Inviting Formula." Like from Greeting to Qualify.

When you don't greet long enough, you don't get a prospect who will give you their need/want. Greet too long and your prospect feels you're wasting his time and will hastily get off the phone with you.

You have to recognize the exact moment when the prospect qualifies for your MLM business opportunity. Example: When the prospect says, "I'm sort of sick working for someone else." When I hear this I know they qualify to be in my business.

Or, if you're listening to see if the prospect qualifies for your MLM business and the prospect says, "I don't remember signing up for anything; why are you calling me !$&*$!" - then I know they just disqualified themselves from being in my network marketing business.

To truly be an MLM natural, you have to know the rest of the Inviting Formula and know when to make the transitions, but the good news is that the others are much easier to recognize compared to "Greet" and "Qualify."

If you can master learning when to transition for "Greet" and "Qualify" you will really be able to tell a difference in your ability to have meaningful conversations with prospects about both your network marketing business or your products or services.

So just how do you get good at these transitions?

Two ways I know of:

1) Invite over and over until you can "sense" it. Like letting the clutch out on your car - the first few times are rough. I recommend you drill the "Invite" for MLM business prospects and then drill the "Invite" separately for product or service sales. I don't recommend you invite your prospect to look at your business and your product/service in the same conversation.

2) Another way is to listen to someone else do it and then model what they do because very often prospect's responses are similar.

To help you learn how to make the transitions and what to listen for I have provided some sample transitions below, along with each step of the Inviting Formula. These are transitions I especially listen for when I'm trying to determine if the person qualifies as an MLM business prospect.

1) Greet - Get someone who will talk freely and openly to you.

Example transition: "Yeah, I requested more information because I'm looking to open my own business and I'm just looking around to see what's out there."

2) Qualify - Find out their needs/wants/don't-wants (as it relates to you business).

Example transition: "Well, I just know there's more out there. I'm sort of sick of working for someone else. I just want to be able to enjoy my life without always having to punch the clock."

3) Invite - Based on relevant information gathered in Qualify.

Your prospect doesn't have to give you any information here. But, depending on how they respond to your invite will decide if you move straight to "Close to Action" or if you do Step 4.

4) Handle any Questions/Objections - Handle the things that are stopping them from getting what they've stated they need/want/don't-want. Remember, your business or product/service MUST be a solution to the person's need/want/don't-want.

Example transitions: After you've handled an objection and they use words like, "Yeah, I can see that." "Yeah, that makes sense." "Hmm, I've never thought of it that way." "Well, it's really not a big deal to me...I've just heard that."

5) Close to Action - Create agreeable steps to move them towards getting them what they've stated they need/want/don't-want.

Example transitions: Anything that indicates they need to get off the phone. "I need to be hitting the sack." A child trying to talk to them. "It's been good talking to you."

6) Follow-up - Re-contact them to determine their interest level as it pertains to your MLM business or product/service.

Example transitions: Anytime they suggest that they can't talk right now. Or if you've closed to action. "Now's not a good time." "You've caught me at a bad time."

Enlightened Communication and Network Marketing

Successful network marketing revolves around effective communication. In your business you need to demonstrate how your product can help to solve your prospect’s particular problem. You need to communicate this effectively and listen intently to what your prospect says and what they mean. This communications involves using the correct dialogue and asking the right questions at the right time. The communication also involves providing feedback on what you understand that they want.

The buying process is really based two different communication processes. There is the logical process which is put in place by your company for you. Follow these directions again and again with all your customers. It is repeatable, can be easily duplicated and is highly successful. The other process is based on feelings and emotions. This is a harder concept to duplicate because it changes depending upon the circumstance and the individual.

Dealing with peoples emotions requires effective listening skills. It means really trying to understand their needs and requirements before you try to meet them. You will have to listen intently and understand what they are saying, so that you can customize a solution tailored toward their needs and current motivations. Once you are able to grasp this concept and integrate it into your selling process it can greatly reduce the amount of time it takes for you to complete the sales process.

If your selling process is based on helping people, and consequently yourself, as opposed to purely moving product then your opportunities and potential will increase. It also makes the selling process fun! It helps you attract and benefit more potential partners and customers in less time and with less effort.

This approach does away with the conventional system of selling using techniques such as the ‘sales presentations’ and the ‘close’ which are based on a more persuasive or adversarial type of communication. Enlightened communication techniques are more concerned with making connections, discovering, listening and supporting. In other words it is about building relationships.

By helping people to improve their lifestyles you can improve your own lifestyle. This is achieved by passing on these learned skills to others. It’s really about helping others to understand how they too can make effective communication work for them. If you have a belief and a passion for what you do then you can pass this on to others. True success depends on the actions you take and having a real desire to succeed. Enlightened communication is the key which will open the door to success.

Unlike the pyramid scheme, a Ponzi scheme does not necessarily follow a particular hierarchical system. In fact, only one person or company is in charge of collecting money from new investors. The said collecting agent or agency then uses such fund to award the older investors with the proceeds promised to them.

Most people that are searching for a home based business do not enjoy their current employment, under paid or would prefer to be at home with their family. Whatever the reason, you must love what you do.

3. Look for a trend

In addition to working out what you love to do, you must look into the service or product the company has to offer and in particular the opportunity it has to grow. Why you may ask? Well, the baby boomer period accounts for one third of the world’s population and two thirds of the world’s spending. 6. The Product

There is two criteria that your product must meet, (1) your product must be consumable and (2) would you use it yourself? If the product meets these two requirements then the MLM Company receives a tick in this section.

Once you have finished this six step process, you will observe that you will be able to abolish 99% of the MLM companies and make your decision quite easy. Starting and operating your own home based business is the ultimate tax shelter.

Although this article has been written from a Canadian income tax perceptive, the principles should be practical in other tax jurisdictions.

1. Non-Deductible Personal Living Expenses

All of us have expenses that we incur in everyday living.

Either you rent an apartment or house or you own your residence. Utilities, insurance, rent, mortgage interest, property taxes, and maintenance and repairs are typical costs of operating your home.

Likely, you have a vehicle which also consumes large amounts of cash.

Add to this, dining out, entertainment, gifts, alcoholic beverages, office supplies, telephone and many other expenditures, and you have a significant cash outflow.

In most cases, as an employee, retired person, investor, student, or homemaker, few of these expenses are tax-deductible to you.

This means that you must earn a considerable income, pay your income taxes first, and then use what is left to pay all your expenses.

Some employees may be able to write-off some of their employment related expenses, if such are required by their contract of employment. However, even in this situation, the tax deductions are very limited.

2. Your Own Home Based Business Means Tax Deductions

Now consider the situation where you decide to start your own home based business.

Suddenly, many of your everyday expenses are now being used for business purposes and are now tax-deductible.

If you use one quarter of your home exclusively for business use, you will be able to deduct (or write-off) one quarter of all related occupancy costs. These expenses may include maintenance and repairs (that are not capital in nature), rent, mortgage interest, house or apartment insurance, power, heat, water, and property taxes.

As well, your vehicle expenses used for business purposes are another tax write-off. If you use your car ninety percent for business purposes, you can deduct ninety percent of your vehicle insurance, gas and oil, maintenance and repairs, car washes, license and registration, auto club, loan interest (within certain limits), and other costs from your income. You may also write-off one hundred percent of your business related parking. Capital Cost Allownance (C.C.A.) on your vehicle is also allowed for income tax purposes; depreciation is the accounting term for this tax deduction.

The Canadian government also allows as a deduction, fifty percent of your business related entertainment expenses.

Also tax-deductible are business related telephone expenses, Internet access, office supplies, travel, books, memberships, and a host of other expenditures.

3. Income Splitting with Your Home Based Business

If you have a high paying job, you will pay higher taxes because the rates of tax increase as your income does.

With your own business, you can pay reasonable wages to your spouse and children. In this way, you can legally divert income taxed at your higher rate to your family members that are in a lower tax bracket.

This tax saving technique is called income splitting. It is another good reason why your own home based business is the ultimate tax shelter.

4. Even a Part-Time Home Based Business Works

Even if you have a full-time job, running a part-time business can be advantageous.

Of course, you must actually run a real, moneymaking business. Any attempts to write unprofitable hobbies off will ultimately fail with the taxation authorities.

If you earned eight thousand dollars during the year from your part-time business and were able to deduct eight thousand dollars in car expenses, home office expenses, entertainment costs, office supplies, and other business related expenditures, you would have a net business income of nil. You would pay no tax on this additional income.

Don't miss this important point! Although these tax deductions are actual, legitimate business expenses, these are expenditures you would probably have made anyway, whether you had a business or not.

Thus, by rearranging your affairs to start and operate a home based business, you have been able to convert non-deductible personal expenditures into legally deductible business expenses. You have successfully sheltered your income from tax and have split your income with family members in lower tax brackets.

Yes, indeed, your home based business has become your ultimate tax shelter.
