What Information Is Included in a Vehicle History Report?

Information is typically included in an OTOFACTS vehicle history report are:

Accident History

Accident data can be very general, simply stating that a collision occurred; or it can be very detailed, including all of the damages the vehicle sustained, where the damages were located, and whether or not the airbags were deployed.

Damage History

In addition to accidents, vehicle history reports can also reveal damage from other sources like hail, fire, floods, and more.

Fire and flood damage are of particular concern for your vehicle’s trade-in value, since they can often result in safety problems, electrical issues, and other complications down the road that require significant repairs.

Title History

There are several different “brands” that can be applied to a vehicle’s title depending on how it has been used over its lifetime.

If a car has been totaled in an accident, its title will be branded as a salvage title. This means an insurance company declared the car a total loss, and then it was later rebuilt and put back on the road and retitled.

Titles can also be branded due to excessive damage by flood, fire, or hail. If your car has been recalled due to lemon laws, it may have a branded title. Some situations that cause excessive wear and tear, such as being registered as a taxi or police vehicle, can also result in a branded title.

Sales and Ownership Information

The sales and ownership history of a vehicle show the very first time it was purchased after it was manufactured, followed by every transaction where it has been bought or sold for the rest of its lifetime.

Cars with only one owner tend to bring higher sales prices and trade-in values than cars with many past owners. In some cases, cars have been frequently bought, sold, and retitled in different states in an attempt to hide negative data from vehicle history reports.

Mileage Data

Over the course of its lifetime, a car’s mileage (or odometer reading) is documented at several different times. Mileage is recorded during state inspections, state registrations, some service appointments, and anytime the car changes hands to a new owner.

Obviously, it’s a major red flag if a car’s current mileage is lower than the mileage listed on its vehicle history report. An illegal tactic called “rolling back” the odometer is sometimes used by scammers who want to reduce a vehicle’s mileage in order to get a higher price.

Recall Notices and Repairs

It’s not uncommon for vehicles to be recalled due to safety and performance issues. A vehicle history report will show whether or not the particular vehicle has been involved in any recalls, and if so, whether or not the required repairs have been made to resolve the underlying issue.

Make the Future Singapore, Shell’s festival of ideas and innovation for Asia, came to a close today. The four-day showcase of bright ideas and innovation saw thousands of visitors including students, entrepreneurs, businesses, government and the public coming together to experience, test and contribute bright energy ideas.

“The Shell Eco Marathon Asia (SEMA) the headline act for Make the Future is very much in line with our government’s Transformasi Negara 50 vision(TN50) to be amongst the top countries in the world in terms of economic development and to drive future innovation is key. Therefore, avenues to encourage our youths in the areas of science, technology, engineering and Mathematics (STEM) are crucial. SEMA serves as one such platform for our Malaysian bright and future talents to discover ways of bringing their ideas to life by challenging their young minds to innovate.” explained Nimmi Kamal, Country Head, External Relations, Shell Malaysia.

Representing Malaysia were seven teams from six universities, six of these teams successfully completed the grueling technical inspection and made it out onto the SEMA track to put their individual car designs to the efficiency test. All cars must first pass all 12 stations at the technical inspection before they are allowed onto the track.

 “It presents a great opportunity for the participating students to develop wholistic skills which paces equal emphasis on the technical and non-technical aspects that go beyond their classroom learning. Students are growing their abilities to lead, to creatively bring ideas and solutions together as well as to manage and strategise their approach from start to finish. The whole process that the students go through is an invaluable experience that will stay with them and even give them that added advantage when starting their careers.” said Nimmi.

The Best of the Prototypes

Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2018 today also crowned the winners in the Prototype category. The best mileage record for the Internal Combustion Engine category was 2,341.1 km/l by Panjavidhya1 from Panjavidhya Technological College (Thailand), beating last year’s record of 2,288.9 km/l. Other winners in the Prototype competition included Team HuaQi-EV from Guangzhou College of South China University of Technology (China), with a result of 511.0 km/kWh in the Battery Electric category, and Team TP ECO FLASH from Temasek Polytechnic (Singapore) with a result of 404.3 km/m³ in the Hydrogen category.

This year team Eco Voyager from University Malaysia place third in the Prototype – Hydrogen category and succeeded in breaking their previous mileage record by achieving 267 KM/M3.

“It takes hours of hard work, perseverance and skill to achieve what some of our Malaysian teams have. Congratulations to team Eco Voyager and for the other teams, take this experience, learn from it and we hope to see all of you again next year.” concluded Nimmi.

Drivers’ World Championship Asia

Team SEMAR URBAN UGM INDONESIA from Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta, Indonesia claimed victory in t­he second edition of Drivers’ World Championship Asia, in a race to cross the finish line first on the least amount of fuel. The top three teams from the Asia regional final will face off against the best UrbanConcept teams from the Americas and Europe in the Grand Final to be held at Make the Future Live in London, UK, on July 8, 2018. The overall winner will earn a once-in-a-lifetime experience at the home of Scuderia Ferrari.

Winning driver Tito Setyadi, 20, who raced in a gasoline-powered car, said: “I can’t believe it – all the months of hard work have finally paid off. We racked our brains to come up with something that would balance speed and energy efficiency like an average car driver and are very glad we accomplished this.“

Norman Koch, Shell Eco-marathon General Manager, said: “The Drivers’ World Championship demands the best in automotive technology and innovation to push the boundaries of energy efficiency. Sharp skills and a sound strategy in handling the vehicle and managing fuel efficiency are imperative in helping the team cross the finish line first. We saw amazing action and excitement today and my congratulations goes to all the teams.”

Off-Track Awards

Shell Eco-marathon is about more than winning on the track. Students are recognised for their communications, technical innovation, design, safety and perseverance.

GARUDA UNY ECO TEAM from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Indonesia, was awarded the Safety Award for the design of their UrbanConcept car. The team went beyond conventional safety simulations and instead used physical experiments to test their design and modified the vehicle design and materials based on their test results.

EnduroKiwis from University of Canterbury, New Zealand, was awarded the Technical Innovation Award for the self-designed 3D-printed titanium engine in their UrbanConcept car, which makes for a stronger engine with finer, more intricate details. The team was proud to mesh the use of 3D-printing with the traditional machine and was lauded for taking a holistic approach to designing and printing the complete engine in a way that is not only optimised for efficient production of the printed parts, but also for optimised engine fuel efficiency.

NUST Eco-motive from National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan, won the Perseverance and Spirit of the Event Award. When it became clear on Friday night that the team would not pass technical inspection, the team gave away their engine to a team who desperately needed one. They also gave away their tyres, battery and other vehicle parts to help about 20 other competing teams and demonstrated the true spirit of the competition.

Make the Future Singapore

The public enjoyed festival mainstays like the mini Shell Eco-marathon experience to build and race cars powered only by saltwater. Festivalgoers also generated electricity on the kinetic dancefloor with their dance moves and challenged others on the Shell Eco-marathon driving simulator. Other highlights included Bio-bean, which showcased how some buses in London are powered by waste coffee grounds, and Liter of Light, which powers rural homes and villages in the Philippines with a solar panel and a bottle of water. The festival also played host to the fifth Asian edition of the Shell Powering Progress Together forum, which brought together more than 150 leaders, young talents and representatives from business, government and society to discuss, debate and catalyse cross-border collaborations to tackle future energy challenges

3D printing of various vehicle parts has been around for a number of years, but this team has taken a holistic approach to designing and printing the complete engine in a way that is not only optimised for efficient production of the printed parts, but also for optimised engine fuel efficiency.

Guangzhou College of South China University of Technology, China

Team HuaQi-EV produced a slim, tightly-packaged and compact car. Its slender proportions and streamlined shape helped to put an attractive face to efficiency. The eye-catching car featured small wheels to reduce the frontal area of their car and keep its overall size and weight down. This “less is more” mentality was highly effective on the track and encouraged the students to focus on innovative ways to balance out competing needs such as vehicle strength, weight reduction and space requirements. The team’s body-on-frame design also helped to produce a relatively low-cost car.

The car featured clear focus on weight reduction, fuel efficiency through optimising the design for air resistance, friction, a simple and effective design for door hinges and closers, and the integration of systems. The team also showed effective use of tools for virtual design development. It was an excellent job of translating the design process into a well-made final product.

Safety was evidently ingrained in every member of the team – their behaviour and collaboration on track and in the paddocks reflected an integral approach encompassing workplace and environmental safety and safety of the car. The team went beyond conventional safety simulations and instead used physical experiments (e.g. using a hydraulic press) to test their design and modified the vehicle design and materials based on their test results.

Perseverance and Spirit of the Event Award

When it became clear on Friday night that the team would not pass technical inspection on time, the team gave away their engine to a team who desperately needed one. They also gave away their tyres, battery and other vehicle parts to help about 20 other competing teams and shared their facilities and tools with others. This demonstrated the true spirit of the competition.

Most Innovative Hydrogen Newcomer

H2GO

Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore

The team managed to achieve optimum balance of technical quality despite the challenges associated with this energy source. The team also successfully drove train efficiency and aced concept innovation with the light-weight, aerodynamic body. The team walks away with a specially designed sculpture and US$1,200.

Shell’s Make the Future Singapore, featuring Shell Eco-marathon Asia, returned to Singapore for a second year from March 8-11, 2018. It is powered by a 4.0L flat engine that generates 500hp and 460Nm peak torque mated to a seven-speed double-clutch PDK transmission or six-speed manual, which can take the car from a standstill to 100km/h in 3.4 seconds for the PDK and 3.9 seconds for the manual, before reaching a top speed of 318km/h with PDK and 320km/h with manual transmission.

It features a redesigned chassis with rear-axle steering and systematic lightweight construction, and was developed on the same test track and manufactured on the same production line as its racing cars.

The chassis benefits from Porsche’s motor racing experience and its tuning has been reworked for enhanced driving dynamics, and sits around 25mm lower than the 911 Carrera S.

The 911 GT3 is fitted with a carbon rear wing for aerodynamics, while its lightweight front end and front spoiler have been optimised for better airflow, and the aerodynamic enhancement is also evident on the lightweight rear end with exhaust air openings and on the new diffusor.

On the interior, it boasts a GT sports steering wheel with a diameter of 360mm that originates from 918 Spyder, Porsche Sports Seats Plus with enhanced seat side bolsters and mechanical fore/aft adjustment.

Porsche offers three additional seat variants for 911 GT3 – the adaptive Sports Seats Plus which boast 18-way electrical adjustment of all seat functions, sports bucket seat with folding backrest, integrated thorax airbag and manual fore/aft adjustment, or full bucket seats made from light carbon fibre-reinforced plastic in carbon-weave finish.

In addition to Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including an online navigation module with real-time traffic information, the standard equipment also includes the Connect Plus module and Track Precision app which enables 911 GT3 drivers to display, record and analyse detailed driving data on their smartphone.

The HP4 Race offers a purebred racing engine similar to specifications 6.2 and 7.2 as in the Endurance and Superbike World Championships, with peak output of 215hp at 13,900rpm and 120Nm at 10,000rpm, mated to a six-speed close-ratio racing gearbox.

Its FGR 300 upside-down fork and TTX 36 GP spring strut are supplied by the Swedish manufacturer Öhlins, with identical parts being used both in the Superbike World Championship and in MotoGP, while the light alloy underslung swingarm made of milled and sheet metal parts is also a component used in the Superbike World Cup.

Featuring two Brembo GP4 PR monoblock brake calipers, the brake system of new HP4 Race also has parts otherwise only to be found in World Cup machines.

It comes with an extensive package of electronic control and assistance systems as well as a weight-optimised on-board electrical system which has been optimised to meet racing needs as well as a 2D dashboard (data-logger) with transferable data memory.

The HP4 Race is only available in the BMW HP Motorsport colour scheme, and is priced at RM520,900.

Meanwhile, the new G 310 GS is powered by a 313cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine known from the G 310 R with four valves and two overhead camshafts together with electronic fuel injection, which generates 34hp at 9,500rpm and a maximum torque of 28Nm at 7,500 rpm.

In terms of its suspension, the new BMW G 310 GS utilises a tubular steel spaceframe with bolt-on rear section that combines torsional rigidity with robust quality.

Given its good stiff balance, this provides the basis for excellent ride stability and a precise steering response.

The front wheel suspension is accomplished by a solid upside-down fork while at the rear there is an aluminium swing arm in conjunction with a spring strut that is mounted on it directly.

High front fender, striking flyline and short, high rear, the BMW G 310 GS features classic elements of its big GS sibling models.

Its compact proportions with a short wheelbase, a 19-inch front wheel and extended spring travel make for a typical upright posture, promising an agile, nimble riding response.

The G 310 GS is available in three colour variants – Cosmic Black non-metallic, Racing Red non-metallic and Pearl White metallic, priced at RM29,900.

The new S 1000 XR features a 999cc in-line four-cylinder engine not in an adapted form to meet the requirements of the EU4 pollutant class, with enhanced power of 165hp at 11,000rpm compared to the previous 160hp.

Additionally optimised with vibration-decoupling of handlebars and an increase of 10kg in both the maximum permissible weight and the payload of the bike for more stability in riding and carrying more.

Softer isolating elements on the handlebars effectively reduce vibrations from being passed onto the handlebar ends.

On pleasure rides and holiday trips, the rider benefits from an increase in the maximum permissible weight of 10kg from 434 to 444kg in the latest edition of the S 1000 XR, which is likewise equivalent to an increase in payload of 10kg.

It is available in a new colour offering of refined Ocean Blue metallic matt and is priced at RM105,900.

For the third quarter of 2017, Perodua sales slowed slightly by 3% to 51,900 against 53,500 for the third quarter of 2016.

“The larger sales number in the third quarter last year was due to the then newly introduced Perodua Bezza.

“That impact has normalised now and our sales have benefitted from the model’s introduction,” said Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Aminar Rashid Salleh.

He said challenges for the fourth quarter of 2017 include challenging approvals for hire-purchase loans and expected intense competition from other auto brands.

“Since the national 2018 Budget was just around the corner, there seems to be a wait and see attitude this month resulting in comparatively slow sales.”

“The fourth quarter is expected to be challenging but we believe we can sustain our sales momentum and are cautiously optimistic in meeting our earlier set target of 202,000 vehicles by the end of 2017,” he said.

Aminar also said on a year-to-date basis, all of Perodua’s models were the best-seller in their respective categories.

From January to September this year, the Axia is the country’s best selling A-segment compact hatch with 48,700 units sold, followed by the Myvi which was the country’s best-selling B-segment hatch with 42,000 units, the Bezza, the best-selling compact A-segment sedan at 39,800 units and the Alza, the best-selling MPV at 21,400 units.

With regards to Perodua’s after sales performance, Aminar said service intake has increased by 4.6% to 1.58 million for the first nine months of the year against 1.51 million intakes for the same period last year.

On production, Perodua manufactured 147,900 vehicles in the first three quarters of 2017, a reduction of 3.8% compared with 153,700 units produced in the same period last year.

The reduction was planned as some of the vehicle stock was produced in the fourth quarter of 2016 in response to the expected higher exchange rate in the first quarter of 2017.

It was inspired by consortiums and bureaus in other developed markets which set up industry organisations dedicated to combating insurance fraud through the use of data, analytics & technology.

Based on international benchmarks, it is estimated that approximately 10% of claims are fraudulent.

The cost of claims fraud may lead to higher premiums in a liberalised pricing environment, which ultimately legitimate customers will have to bear.

One of the pioneers of the region, FIS started off as a research project in 2014, then went live in September 2017 after nine months of development with four pilot companies.

Subsequently, the system will be fully utilised by the rest of the insurance companies and takaful operators in Malaysia.

The industry invested over RM10 million in FIS which was developed together with BAE Systems to provide insurance companies and takaful operators with the ability to detect and investigate insurance fraud.

By pooling together industry data, the system takes a data science approach to fraud detection.

It offers insurers and takaful operators a bigger picture to assess claims holistically in order to detect potential fraud.

Suspicious claims can be detected more quickly and efficiently, and similarly it will be easier to identify genuine claimants as well.

ISM chairman Kong Shu Yin said such fraud is not a victimless crime, as ultimately it is the consumers who will pay.

“FIS is imperative in the fight against insurance fraud using cutting edge technology and data science.

“This will allow insurers and takaful operators to provide better customer service and pass on any savings to consumers in a liberalized market, a twofold benefit for the consumer,” he said.

Kong added that FIS would not have been a reality without the support of Bank Negara Malaysia and expressed his utmost gratitude to them.

The programme’s initial focus is on four pillars of driving habits – wearing seatbelts, not using mobile phones while driving, using turn signals and using child seats.

The campaign includes putting up promotional materials in Perodua sales and service outlets nationwide, targeted to reach a total of one million customers within a year.

“We believe this target is achievable as a total of 1.2 million customers patronise our sales and service outlets every year, and we will take this opportunity to educate on positive driving habits through these touch points,” said Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Aminar Rashid Salleh.

With the launch of the campaign, Perodua also officially launched its child seat which is being offered at introductory prices of RM660 for the Infant Seat and RM780 for the Toddler Seat.

After the promotional period, the Infant Seat and Toddler Seat will be priced at RM790 and RM980, respectively.

The Infant Seat is designed for infants weighing up to 13kg and is available in red or grey, while the Toddler Seat is for children weighing 9kg to 36kg and comes in red or black.

“In addition to selling these child seats to our customers, our authorised sales and service advisors will also demonstrate how to install them properly for your peace of mind,” said Aminar.

As part of the five-year Road Safety Programme, Perodua hopes to work with various government agencies such as the Road Transport Department (JPJ), Road Safety Department of Malaysia (JKJR) and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS).

The Pengejar Impian Facebook contest is anchored by a series of short films on ordinary, everyday Malaysians who have extraordinary stories of perseverance and dedication.

The first video featured Chin Kun On, who, despite losing his right leg in 2000, learned to ride a motorbike and started selling ice cream to support his family of three.

All other current selling models from the brand are not affected by this recall.

According to the company, the stabiliser bar breakage is due to insufficient temperature control during its production process, resulting in compromised strength of the stabiliser bar which could lead to breakage during high stress.

Breakage of the stabiliser bar might cause wheels to be unbalanced, resulting in instability during a drive and the car pulling to the left or right.

As of today, there are no incidences of crashes or injuries related to this issue reported in Malaysia.

All affected front stabiliser bars will be replaced with newly made parts.

Currently, the carmaker has 50% of the replacement parts in stock nationwide, and parts availability will be at 100% in mid-November 2017.

“Honda Malaysia would like to assure all customers that the company is committed to its mission to maintain the best product performance; hence the proactive measure is being taken to avoid any possible damages or accidents,” the company said in a statement today.

All affected customers will be informed via notification letters, which will include details of the product recall.

Customers who receive the letter are advised to send their vehicles to the nearest Honda authorised dealer nationwide for inspection and replacement.

All costs related to this replacement activity will be borne by the company.

All affected customers are encouraged to replace the affected stabiliser bar urgently once they receive the letter as its breakage can potentially lead to tyre puncture and instability.

Honda customers are urged to check their vehicle recall status either by logging on to www.honda.com.my or www.productrecall.honda.com.my today or by calling the Honda Toll Free number 1-800-88-2020.
