You have a bodometer. Did you know that? Your body is a barometer. Today in my meditation Platypus showed up and asked me to share this information with you. At first I wondered why Platypus? But upon reflection, it is perfect. I will tell you after I share my bodometer technique with you.

Each of us has an inner guidance system…I think most of us are aware of this. But it can be difficult to trust or even hear this guidance sometimes. When you are contemplating a decision you can list your pros and cons or you can listen within. If you listen within and are met with a deafening silence, here’s a technique to get some answers from your inner guidance that works without fail.

I call it the bodometer. A barometer is something that registers or responds to fluctuations; an indicator. Your body has the same capability. It can be a very clear indicator.

Let’s say you are pondering a decision about changing jobs. Find a time and a place where you won’t be disturbed. Get quiet and notice how you feel in your body. Is there tension anywhere? If so, allow it to dissipate. Just imagine the tension flowing down through your body and out into the earth. Now notice if there are any emotions or feelings coursing through your body. If you find some take a moment to feel them. Allow the energy of the emotions or feelings to come to the surface and be released. When you are at a place of calmness having disbursed any tension or feelings, bring into your awareness the question about your job. First, focus on your current job. You can ask, “How does my soul feel about my current job?” Then notice how you feel in your body.

Are you relaxed and happy?

Do you feel a warm glow around your heart center?

Do you feel tension or tightness in any part of your body? (I typically feel negative associations as tension or nausea in my gut).

Maybe you feel dull or sluggish.

Your body is sharing with you deep impressions about your current job. Now, ask “How does my soul feel about the potential new position” (of course use words that make sense for you). Notice…how does your body feel?

This technique works well for many questions and issues. Ask yourself about the new car mechanic or purchasing a new couch. Maybe you want to know about that guy you met on E-Harmony. Your wiser self is connected into the bigger picture (i.e. the field or the collective consciousness) and can advise the less wise ego self on these decisions.

As I said, it was Platypus that showed up nudging me to share this information with you. You might be surprised to learn that Platypus knows all about “feeling through the dark”. When a Platypus is submerged under water a fold of skin comes over its ears and eyes essentially blinding it as it swims through water. They can be under water for up to 5 minutes…and they are completely blind. But they “feel” their way through the water with their very sensitive bill. This is why Platypus “medicine” helps you follow your inner sight to guide you in your life.

As you venture into 2013, see how much more ease and grace you can enjoy in your life as you tap into your wiser self with this simple technique.

Try it and let me know how it works for you.

This is probably one of the most frequent questions I receive from communication clients. They have an animal that seems more fearful or sensitive to noise, movement, people, energy, etc. They may be more prone to illness or allergies too. Of course there are many reasons this can happen.

Certainly experiences of trauma can cause an animal to be more fearful and being raised under certain conditions can also promote more sensitivity or fearfulness. But I have found more often that the animal has just been born more sensitive.

People expect there to be a specific reason for the fear or sensitivity but very often it is because they are wired differently. While I would say that all animals are sensitive empaths by nature, some of them are definitely more sensitive than others, much like those of us humans that are highly sensitive empaths. Frequently they come into our lives to help us learn how to be more aware of our own sensitivities as well.

Adam (a horse), is a good example. While he isn’t particularly fearful…not anymore than any other horse, he is sensitive to changes in the environment that affect his health. Just recently he colicked. The vet was called while we administered some holistic methods to help him until the vet arrived. If you don’t know horses, colic is a digestive disruption (it can take several forms) that can easily be fatal. We don’t mess with it. Fortunately, Adam recovered in about a day. But there were some circumstances that led me to wonder if something was behind this colic episode.

As a highly sensitive empath, I had been feeling large waves of energy coming at me during this same time period. I decided to check out what was happening with the Sun. It turns out there were some pretty major solar flares occurring just prior to Adam’s colic and while I was experiencing these rather uncomfortable waves of energy (they feel a lot like anxiety).

I decided to ask Adam about his colic episode. Here’s what he had to say:

Wendy: A few weeks ago you had colic, you know when your digestive system wasn’t working right and we had Dr. Johnson come out and help you?

Adam: Yes. I remember that. I am very sensitive. It’s not the first time it has happened to me.

Wendy: I was wondering if you knew what caused that to happen.

Adam: It was a combination of things but mostly, it was because my body was disturbed by the energy shifts that were taking place.

Wendy: Do you mean from the solar flares?

Adam: I’m not sure what caused it exactly but I know that I could feel the energy around me was different. It felt like it was buzzing me. (This is also what some dogs say about thunderstorms).

Wendy: How come none of the other horses got sick?

Adam: They are not as sensitive to the changes as I am. I’m just more sensitive to these changes.

Wendy: Was there something we could have done to prevent this?

Adam: I don’t think so. I have what I need here to be healthy. I have a herd to hang out with, good hay and lots of water. I have room to run and move so I don’t think there is anything that might have prevented this particular episode. I wish I could eat grass every day. I think that would be better than hay.

Wendy: I wish you could eat grass everyday too but unfortunately, the grass has to rest for the winter. That’s the only way to have hay in the spring and summer for you.

Adam: Yes, I understand. I just don’t like it.

Wendy: Thanks for sharing with me.

When I ask dogs about why they are afraid of thunderstorms, they often relate to me a similar “buzzing” feeling. This is why they often begin to show signs of anxiety before the storm actually appears. They are responding to the change in the barometric pressure.

As for the Solar Flares, there is scientific evidence that they create biological changes in humans and animals (we are after all animals). First let me explain about Solar Flares. A solar flare is the result of a magnetic storm on the Sun. The eruption that occurs ejects clouds of electrons, ions, and atoms through the corona of the sun into space. These clouds typically reach earth a day or two after the event and have a measurable effect on the magnetic field of the earth.

Since our bodies (and our animal’s bodies) have magnetic fields, we too are affected. Scientific studies have shown that solar flares affect the central nervous system and the heart (which also has its own magnetic field). There is a much higher incidence of heart attacks at the time of high solar flare activity. Some of the central nervous system affects that have been attributed to flares include vertigo, anxiety, headache, palpitations, mood swings, and feeling generally unwell. Chaotic or confused thinking and erratic behaviors also increase. Studies have shown that the flares desynchronize circadian rhythms and melatonin production which is partly why these affects happen. So if it is happening to the humans, you know it can affect your animals as well. And when you have an especially sensitive animal, you may very well see changes in their behavior and health. If you are interested, you can follow the tracking of the solar flares and other geomagnetic activity here. http://www.tesis.lebedev.ru/en/sun_flares.html Solar flares follow a cycle of the Sun and we have been in a peak cycle for the last year or two that will continue for at least another year.

Highly sensitive animals are also more sensitive to being touched and to our energy. Sensitive cats are very easily overly stimulated with grooming or petting. For them, it really needs to be on their terms. This is nothing to take personally; it just is their need for less stimulation because they are already over-stimulated by their surroundings.

And as I have discussed before, (see Are your pets getting wired) our energy and the electrical energy in our homes from TV’s, cell phones, computers, etc can also add to the “energy burden” of our companions.

So what do you do with these sensitive guys?

First and foremost, honor who they are. That means understanding that they are, without any fault of their own, just a bit different, a bit more sensitive.

Be observant. Learn what is more difficult for them and what helps them. Maybe they (cat or dog) need a thundershirt. Maybe some essential oils or hydrosols can support them during difficult times. If they aren’t comfortable around new people, don’t force them into those situations. Maybe they need a quiet dark place they can retreat to. And if you’re not sure what they need, you can always have me talk to them.

Remember that our energy also affects them. The more you are grounded and calm when around them, the calmer they will be.

There’s a great deal we can learn from these sensitive ones. Let’s embrace them and be grateful they are in our lives.

Walking the dogs this morning I noticed the cloud like appearance of the moon hanging in the sky. It reminded me that we are approaching a new moon and this is the perfect time to set intentions. Just as this thought went through my head I saw a hawk fly above me. Whenever I see a big bird, like a hawk or eagle, I always notice what I’m thinking at the time. I take it as an omen that my thoughts at that moment are important. Then it occurred to me to share with you how you can take advantage of this coming new moon to plant seeds of intention for what you want to create in your life.

Dolphin says bring magic and play to your manifesting.

Before beginning to write I went into meditation and expected hawk to appear. Instead, a dolphin appeared. She was playing in the water and inviting me to grab on and join her. She told me “Manifest with joy, magic and wonder. Look for the magic and joy in your life…it’s right there in front of you. Share your joy with others..as you share joy and magic you strengthen it…you cause it to multiply many, many times. Be playful with your lives.”

So with joy, magic and manifesting in mind, let me give you some simple steps to set your life into motion.

Why the new moon? Well, I’m not an astrologist but I do know a bit about the cycles of the moon as I have discussed here before…mostly because I have been so affected by the cycles of the moon that I was inspired to learn about them.

The new moon is the birthing phase of the moon cycle. This is when we plant seeds literally or figuratively by setting intentions. Then as we go into the dark phase of the moon between the new moon and the full moon, that which we have planted has the dark soil and time to germinate and becomes ready to burst into life at the time of the full moon. It doesn’t necessarily mean that if you set the intention to have a million dollars that you will have it two weeks later at the full moon, but there is power in taping into the cycle.

The idea of manifesting or creating situations in our life based on our thoughts is not just new age woo-woo but has scientific evidence (i.e. rigorous studies) to back it up. It amazes me that this science has not hit mainstream but then it is in such contrast to what we have believed for so long that it isn’t unlike letting go of the idea that the earth is flat. One of the best sources for an overview of the scientific studies and their implications is the book, The Intention Experiment, by Lynn McTaggert.

For years I have experienced this ability to manifest in my life. Long before I ever read about the concept I managed to do it…even though I was unaware of it at least on a conscious level. When I was 19 years old I was part of a very large national student organization for marketing and business. I decided to represent my state and run for a national office in this group. I began to visualize myself at the training conference that all elected officers were to go through in Washington D.C. several weeks after the election. I never focused on the election or the national conference itself. I just kept imagining the training conference for those who were elected. And of course, I was elected and went to Washington, D.C. for the training conference. While it’s true I haven’t manifested everything in my life I ever desired, I can say that I have always gotten what I need.

Now lets get to the creation and manifesting piece. How do you take advantage of this very powerful new moon?

Begin now: Start now to think about and visualize what it is you want to bring into your life. This way at the time of the new moon you will have your ideas flushed out and ready to plant.

Get centered: Your desires should come from your higher self, not your ego self or from a place of love not fear. Take some time to get quiet and connect in with that wiser part of you…the part that truly knows what will best serve you now.

Let go of fear: It is very common to be afraid to ask for what is best for us. We seem to have this fear that we will be asked to give up all our worldly possessions and go live in a hut. Not so. Our higher self has only good in mind for us. It might not be what we thought we needed, but I can tell you that your idea of the blessings that can come to you are very limited compared to what you really can create and deserve.

Percolate: Allow the ideas of what you want to create to percolate between now and December 13, 2012, our next new moon.

Don’t be wishy washy: As you craft the intention, be clear that you are capable of manifesting this. Don’t use words like, “wish” or “hope”. Use wording that states your manifestation as if it has already happened. “I’m so happy now that…..”.

Vocalize and write: On December 13, 2012, state your intentions clearly out loud and write them down. There is power in this expression. You might even want to keep a new moon journal.

Detach: This is the most difficult part. Let go of your attachment to the outcome. TRUST that you will receive all that you need in perfect timing. If you stay attached to a certain way for things to transpire or manifest, you are putting yourself in a place of control, which is based in fear and lack. You cannot manifest from fear and lack. LET IT GO.

Expect: Believe that you deserve good in your life and expect your desires to manifest. This really is a powerful piece. I had help with this as a young child. Being the youngest of 4 girls, my sisters were convinced I was spoiled by my mother. I often heard “Wendy gets whatever she wants”. I’m not sure this was true at the time, honestly I remember lots of hand-me-downs. Never-the-less, I grew up believing “What Wendy wants, Wendy gets”. It has served me well.

There is also incredible power when others join with you to help you manifest your intentions. I encourage you to share your intentions here (as you feel comfortable) and I will hold the space for your intention to manifest. And I invite all of you to also hold the space for those that share their intentions here to manifest.

You are very powerful.

Together, we are even more powerful.

Have you noticed feeling more anxious this past week? Maybe you feel a bit on edge or maybe you have experienced surges of adrenaline not unlike a panic attack. If you live in Wisconsin or any other region where deer hunting has begun the hunt may have more to do with your anxiety than you realize. (More about the hunt from Argus, the buck below).

Living in the country surrounded by woods and fields that others use for hunting has ramped up my awareness of my sensitivities during hunting season. It typically begins early in the morning, about 4:30-5 am. I am awakened by a surge of adrenalin that feels like being out walking at night in the dark and hearing a noise behind me. It’s a brief rush of fear…completely unrelated to any current thoughts. It’s biological at this point and is created from adrenal glands gone amuck.

But it didn’t begin as biological…it began energetically. When you are highly sensitive and your energy feels the fearful energy of the deer anticipating the hunt or even the adrenaline rush of the hunter…your body interprets that energy as a real threat and goes into its flight or fight mode.

Our bodies interpret many events as stress and will respond to an energetic connection as if it were a physical attack. It is also true that happy events can create a physical response to stress. This over stimulated adrenal system can then create anxiety, panic attacks and eventually, physical illness. Fortunately, we can control this system.

The first step is to recognize that this is a biological response to a perceived threat…in other words this is not real.

Next, we need to unplug from any sources of energy that may be creating the stress. You can do this by visualizing all your energy coming back to you and then sending it down into the earth to ground it.

Finally, focus on your heart center and breathe deeply remembering all that you are grateful for in your life. Allow that feeling of love and gratitude to fill your entire being. This should shift you into a state of calm contentedness (I will be sharing a guided meditation that takes you through this process on my new website, to be launched in the next month. You will be able to download the meditation and use it daily to help keep your energy body free from outside attachments.)

The adrenaline rush from this energetic connection typically only lasts about 30-60 seconds. However, if you have an over stimulated adrenal system you may experience repetitive episodes. This requires some serious self care.

In addition to the steps of grounding and breathing noted above you need to eliminate any “stimulants” from your life such as caffeine, sugar, stressful events, and alcohol…yep, alcohol really doesn’t help you relax in the long run as it depletes your adrenals. Then you can add in ways to support yourself such as quality rest, creative time, laughter with a friend, and quiet time with your four-legged friends.

So that’s how I manage the hunting season. Even now as I type this I can hear the guns not far away. But what about the deer? What’s their take on this? About a year ago, I talked with a buck named Argus about the hunting season.

Today I wanted to know if Argus is still with us, and if he might want to share something else. I’m happy to report that Argus is still here and has managed to outsmart the hunters. Here’s what he had to share today.

Wendy: Argus, I’m really happy that you are still here to share with me.

Argus: It’s important that I continue to bring more deer into the world. I am particularly strong and intelligent for my species so I want to father as many babies as possible.

Wendy: So how have you managed to not get caught?

Argus: For years I have observed the hunters in this area…I know their patterns and where they rest. I am very careful to avoid them…and it is very easy to smell and hear them. They are not as clever as they believe they are.

Wendy: Argus, when I spoke to you a year ago you shared with me that you understand about hunting and you do not resent the hunters. Yet, energetically I feel fear around me at this time of year. Can you help me understand?

Argus: Of course. Although we understand the circle of life, it does not mean we do not still experience our instinctual nature. We sense when the hunt has begun and we know that our lives are being threatened. It is only natural for us to be on high alert with a sense of fear. It is this sense of fear that most often keeps us safe. For some, they will not live through this time. All we ask is that you honor and thank the animals that have allowed themselves to become food for you…and to spare the young.

Wendy: Yes, this is a time when we humans celebrate all that we are grateful for in our lives. It seems perfect to give thanks to all the animals and plants that feed us so that we can experience life here in this human body. I thank you for sharing your insights with me and for helping me to understand the energy I feel from the animals.

Even though this is a particularly difficult time for me as an empath, I wouldn’t ever wish to not be sensitive. Today, I am thankful that I have the capacity to feel…to feel deeply and to be able to understand how others feel. This sensitivity keeps me compassionate and connected to all the beauty in this world. I may feel others fear or pain but I also feel deeply connected to the loving presence that is our Creator and that my friends, makes it all worthwhile.

Today I’m writing from my hotel room in Asheville, North Carolina. I’m here with my amazing business coach, Christine Kane and many incredible women (and three guys) that are bringing their soul’s work to the world through their businesses. Together, we are each in our own way, doing what we have been called to do to create peace in our world. It reminded me of when this idea of creating peace first occurred to me.

Back in 1995, I was Director of the Small Business Assistance Center at Madison Area Technical College. Our department took a day off to go to a quiet retreat center and envision our future. As part of the process we were each invited to develop our own personal mission statement. To this day, my mission is printed and framed, hanging where I see it often. It reads, ” My mission is to be a conduit of peace, to live a peaceful life through love and understanding. I do this by always seeking to understand others, by keeping my mind open to all possibilities and ideas and by respecting all forms of life.”

I didn’t think about this statement, I didn’t ponder or even edit. This mission literally flowed through the ether and out into my hands. It was not of my ego…it was from my soul or higher self.

I always know when something is flowing from my soul as it feels as if it is channeled. No thought goes into it and it doesn’t require any editing.

Thinking about this mission statement and the path my life has taken I see that it all makes sense. My work with the animals is about creating peace for the animals by helping their people understand what they need, how they feel and why they do what they do. The communication often creates peace within the family when the animals understand what the humans want and vice versa. And on a larger scale, when we humans begin to treat all animals (and other life) with love and respect we also begin treating each other that way.

Working with highly sensitive empaths and abuse survivors is also about creating peace by helping them understand and manage their sensitivities and by helping them embrace their intuitive gifts so that they can hear their guidance and bring their special gifts to the world.

For me personally, I have always wanted peace within. “Dear God, grant me peace” has been a common prayer for me. When you have experienced a traumatic childhood, peace is important. Peace represents safety.

True peace is something you create within your own mind and is not dependent upon your outer circumstances. Often, the peace we seek is from our own mind, that monkey mind with its critical thoughts, spinning stories about the events in our life. When we begin to harness that mind and understand how it operates, we begin to create peace. It’s not something someone else can do for you, but it is something that can be taught.

Seeking peace is also common if you are a highly sensitive empath. Constantly feeling the energy around you creates chaos and you crave peace. You want the anxiety to lessen. You want the constant bombardment of others energy to cease. And it can when you learn to manage your energy body.

Today, I want you to know peace is attainable. It is possible to create a sense of peace from within…to control your thoughts and direct them in a way that brings you peace. It is also possible to create peace within your energy body so that you are less affected by others. One way to learn this is through my Phoenix Rising teachings. There is a class scheduled for the Madison area on December 1st. Early registration ends this Friday so check it out here if you too crave peace.

Most importantly, when you create peace within you are doing the most powerful thing possible to create peace in our world. As Mahatma Ghandi said, “Be the change that you wish to see in the world”.

Have you ever wondered how I get the information for these blogs? I had a reader ask me recently if I asked the animals the questions or if they just volunteered the information. It’s yes to both. Often I go into meditation and just ask what wants to be shared. Sometimes, I am curious about something or an event has brought something to my attention that I want more information on so I ask who might have something to share. Other times I might ask somebody (like Smokey) a specific question that I know they would have insight on.

Last week a reader asked me “Why do humans dwell so strongly in their negative egos (hate, fear and their ramifications) and the rest of the animal kingdom does not?” She wondered “Do they channel the other side more strongly and feel less lost?

To find an answer, I went into meditation and asked who might share insight on this question with me. Immediately I saw a bat hanging upside down in front of me. This is the first time a bat has come to me. She had great insight that she shared about the question and also told me that she would be with me for a while as she was here to shed light for me personally.

Bat: First you must realize that in physical form we are all the trinity of body, mind and spirit. Where animals differ from humans is that they are more connected to their”true nature” and easily find balance in this trinity. They are more in touch with their spiritual and body aspects than humans because they are not in resistance to them. They honor the instinctual nature that they have and they use their energetic sense to read the world around them.

Humans tend to dwell more in their intellect (mind) separating them from their body (instinctual nature) and spirit (the energy dimension). Therefore, the mind without the balance of body and spirit often creates false ideas that manifest into fear. Because fear is so uncomfortable, it creates other aspects born of the ego to avoid the feeling of fear like greed, anger, guilt and hatred and to try and create an illusion of control.

In your culture you worship the mind at the expense of the body and spirit which is how you have become so unbalanced. Without the awareness of your connection to all that is (spirit) and an anchoring in your physical body, the mind spins out of control. Your minds, individually and collectively, have created all sorts of illusions of lack and separation that makes you fearful at a very deep and basic level.

Animals (non-human) do have egos and experience fear but because they are not trained from birth to ignore their physicality or spirituality the fear does not generally manifest into the aspects of an ego out of control.

It’s also important to remember that it is a trinity and rejecting the ego completely is not the goal. Coming here in physical form creates experiences for the Soul that is best served when all three components are engaged and appreciated.

Wendy: Thank you. That’s very helpful.

From personal experience I know that my fears can create all sorts of stories in my head. None of these stories are true (or fun for that matter). As I have strengthened my connection to Spirit I have begun to quiet the crazy thoughts and see them for the FEAR (False Evidence Appearing Real) that they are.

So to my reader Diane, your hypothesis “do they channel the other side more strongly and feel less lost” appears to be accurate. Animals maintain that very important connection to Spirit (the other side) where they can be more aware of the illusion of what appears to be real here in our world. This combined with being grounded or anchored into their physical body seems to allow them to keep the ego more in check.

I know from having worked with many highly sensitive empaths (HSE) that being grounded in the physical body is very important. Often when we begin our Spiritual awakening we see the ego as something to be rid of and in the process go so far into the spiritual or energetic realm that we leave the body behind. HSE’s are especially prone to this because of the sometimes overwhelming feelings they experience in their body. However, learning to ground your body and be physically present is crucial to managing the energy aspects.

It really all comes down to balance. An appreciation and regard for body, mind and spirit. Casting none out but appreciating that together they can create a heavenly experience here on Earth.

What do you think?

This past summer I received a call from a woman in panic…literally. She was in the midst of a panic attack and called me for help. Susan was out west enjoying a great conference with like minded people. She was outside with her group when they all noticed a large herd of Elk crossing through a field making their way toward a road. Susan grabbed her camera and set it up on a tripod to capture the moment. For most of us, watching a herd of Elk move across a field is not a daily occurrence. As she looked through the camera lens she discovered a cow (female elk) that was separated from the herd. She looked right into the eyes of this cow and realized she had large cataracts on her eyes and was probably nearly blind. She could sense and feel the panic of this cow. And within moments she found herself in the midst of a full blown panic attack.

Some of the herd waited for this less than able cow and she eventually was able to get back to the others in the herd.

But for Susan, the panic was still there. She still felt it and did not know how to release her panic. That’s when she called me. As she explained to me what had transpired I immediately understood what happened to her. I talked her through a simple exercise to ground her energy and at last the feelings of panic and overwhelming fear subsided. She was able to disconnect her energy from the cow and the energy of panic left.

In her book, Finding Your Way in a Wild New World, Martha Beck recounts a similar experience she had in the wilds of Africa. She witnessed the death of a young gazelle and as she explains it, she continued to feel the emotions of the gazelles that occurred in the last moments of the young ones life for a couple of days. Too bad she didn’t have my phone number ;-)…although I suspect Martha knows a few techniques herself.

So what happened?

It’ simple really.

Our energy flows where our attention goes. Literally.

When you place your attention on something or someone, as Susan did when she looked through the camera lens to the cow, or as Martha Beck did when she looked upon the scene of the young gazelle, your energy goes there too. When you are a highly sensitive empath, you then connect with that energy and feel it. For Susan, this meant that she felt the panic of the cow. And she took it on. That’s what we highly sensitive empaths do. It’s not something we do consciously and that’s what gets us in trouble.

I discovered this for myself many years ago when I was learning cranio-sacral therapy for horses. Our instructor, a woman very sensitive to energy, asked that as she worked on a horse (we were observing) that we not “join” her energetically. She did not want others’ energy interfering with the work she was doing. Of course as soon as she started working on the horse, my energy…and the other students’ energy joined her. It happened just because we were observing. She let us know that she felt our energy but she didn’t tell us how not to send our energy. In that moment I realized that my energy followed my attention and that’s when I figured out how to withdraw my energy and still observe what she was doing.

As you learn to become more aware of what you are doing with your energy body you can employ techniques to protect yourself from other energies and to keep your energy from dispersing. The result is a much more stable emotional life and often a healthier physical life. Let’s face it, we have enough of our own stuff to deal with…we don’t need to take on the troubles of the world. But we often do.

Of course there is an upside to this sensitivity. This ability to feel energy so intensely is also what gives us the ability to communicate with animals and with those that have crossed over into spirit. We can receive information on an intuitive level more deeply than others. It’s the gift of the highly sensitive empath. All you need is some instruction on how to harness this ability so that you can take advantage of the gifts and manage the sensitivities.

A great way to get some instruction is through the Phoenix Rising class being held December, 1, 2012 near Madison. The details aren’t on the website yet (my web designer is in Hawaii on a well deserved vacation) but they will be there in about another week. In the meantime, if you are interested in the class or want to work with me one-on-one, just send me an email at wendy@wendywolfe.com.

I would be remiss to not point out the most beautiful part of this story. As the rest of the herd realized the panic of the cow that was feeling stranded they slowed and a few stayed behind so that she could catch up and feel secure again. I never cease to be amazed by the love and kindness of animals. There is so much we can learn from them, we just need to listen and observe.

Eagle has been sharing wisdom with me for a long time. I frequently see Eagles these days and often he shows up in my meditations. Today, Eagle asked that I share a message with you.

Eagle knows who you are ;-).

Eagle: I want to talk with you about Leadership. It is time for people that understand how we (animals, birds, plants, fish, and humans) are all connected to dig deep within and find their power and bring it forth to lead others.

Many will think that leadership means to be someone that leads thousands or millions but that is not the case. Leaders are around you everyday. Each of you has a significant impact on others when you share your unique gifts. You may not be aware of it but there is much that you have learned in your life that you can share with others who will benefit from your wisdom.

Your starting place is to lead from a place of love; from your heart. Claim your Divine essence and own it, then share it. Keeping it hidden serves no one.

Wendy: How do we get clear about who we are to lead?

Eagle: It isn’t about who. When you claim your truth, when you live your life authentically, you become a leader. You become a beacon of light for others to follow. It happens automatically.

It is vital for you to understand how important it is to be true to yourself. To know what is important to you, to know what feels true to you…and then to live a life that reflects that truth. It requires self reflection, examination and honesty. It means looking under the rug and sweeping out the dirt. It means no longer filling your life with activities or people that keep you out of integrity with what you know to be true.

Now is the time to step up. Will you heed my calling?

Eagles’ advice reminds me of a couple of favorite quotes.

“When you do what you are here to do you help others do what they are here to do”. Alan Cohen

This is true. Friends have shared with me that when I left a very successful career in business to follow my calling to communicate with and heal animals it inspired them to follow their own dreams. Seeing someone else say no to the status quo and follow their heart is inspirational because it touches that part of us that desperately wants to bring our own unique stamp to the world. It calls us to think about what is most important to us and what we were meant to share in this lifetime.

When Eagle talks about the importance of understanding and being true to you it reminds me of a quote from Jesus in the Gospel of Thomas.

“If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.” Gospel of Thomas, verse 70.

There can be various interpretations of this quote. To me it has meant that if I don’t listen to my soul’s calling, if I don’t do what is true for me, it will destroy me. And honestly, it almost did.

Before I began working as a professional animal communicator and intuitive educator I worked as a business and economic development professional (yep, suits, briefcases, all that very corporate stuff). But it wasn’t what I was meant to do and as I result I became very ill. I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. I had to take a partial disability from my job because the pain, fatigue and anxiety kept me bed ridden several days a week. When I finally got honest with myself about what was important and made some changes to my life, my “diseases” disappeared. (I also got my energetic and physical body realigned with acupuncture and reiki and learned to manage my empathic sensitivities).

I’ve learned that when I find myself fatigued and in pain that I need to look at what I am creating in my life. Is it consistent with my beliefs and values? Am I being true to myself? Now that I understand myself on a much deeper level I can make these adjustments quickly and there is no need to suffer.

There is also an exponential factor to you becoming a leader. You may think you are only touching a few lives or even a few hundred. The truth is with every person that ignites their passion and truth in response to your doing so, that many more will follow their lead. It has a domino effect and so you are far more reaching than you may have ever thought possible.

Just imagine how our world, our earth, would be different if we each looked closely at what was really important to us? If we examined our beliefs and thoughts and tossed out those that were not our truths? If we followed our truth and our heart’s desire?

What is your heart’s desire, your truth?

Please feel free to share here and be the leader Eagle has called you to be.

I hear this from clients. “I didn’t get quiet enough for my meditation.” “I’m not sure if what I heard from the animal was accurate.” “I wish I had done this differently.” I didn’t ….you fill in the blank.

I get it.

I used to be a perfectionist. My goal was to be as good and perfect at whatever I did as anyone could possibly be. I must be the best. If I didn’t accomplish my goal as planned I would be disappointed in myself.

It was exhausting and deflating.

After all we are not perfect. None of us. Ever.

One day I decided to view my life as one big experiment.

A scientific experiment is set up to measure what happens when certain variables are in place. A good scientific experiment is not dependent on the outcome but the information that is gleaned from the process. A good scientist is not attached to the outcome.

So each time I try something no matter the results, they are okay…they are the results of my experiment. What I take away from the process is what I have learned, not what I have accomplished.

This takes a lot of pressure off me to attain a certain level of achievement or some other specific outcome.

I don’t fail.

I don’t get it wrong.

I just experiment and play with the outcomes often creating something I might never have thought of in my otherwise rigid mindset. That’s the beauty of this system…you begin to see all the alternate possibilities rather than be tied to one specific outcome.

I sat down to meditation as I thought about this and a little field mouse showed up. She had beautiful brown eyes and a very wiggly nose. I know some people are a bit freaked out by mice but I have always thought they were cute…except when they begin to scavenge through the contents of my cupboards. Then they are not so cute.

This little mouse showed me all the many things she can use to construct a nest. She tries them all, insulation, wood, paper, cloth, hay, fur, styrofoam, etc. She experiments until she gets it just how she likes it. Finding a warm spot is also on her mind these days. When the leaves start to fall and the days get shorter she knows it is time to find an indoor place (that’s her preference, not an absolute need) to live. She shared with me that she looks for hidden spots away from predators and with this process she experiments too. She keeps looking for places where she can work her way into a house or barn that is kept warm. She doesn’t have a specific outcome in mind. She doesn’t get disappointed in herself. She just keeps looking until she finds what works.

Hmmm, her life is an experiment too.

What I have noticed since I began this view of life as an experiment is that life is more fun. It’s not as scary because I’m not looking at success or failure as my only options. There is just what happens…and what I can learn from it.

Now I get more ideas for my work because I am trying more options. My creativity is increasing because I have taken the pressure off.

Is my perfectionism gone? No, it still creeps back in. And then I remember life is an experiment; I am a scientist trying many hypothesis and every day I am learning.

From a spiritual perspective, I think that we are here to experience what life has to offer and to be open to all the possibilities. We don’t need to be on a fast track to perfection. Perfection doesn’t exist in the human form as we define it so if we are still in human form…we are still imperfect. And that’s just perfect.
