Transcending transitions

Fireworks of the season!

The energy now is super active. Sun activity and the time of year are contributing to that effect. What does that increased energy mean? It means a sense of urgency and added intensity to everyday goings on with more stamina to attack the project at hand.

Fall lends a sense of finality and implies there is a need to prepare and let go of all that no longer serves while putting up winter stores. Downsizing and releasing.

It is the season of transition. Some upgrade that to transcendence. Departure and death are not so bad when viewed in the turning of the leaves, composting of excess harvest and ground plowed for winter rejuevenation.

Lightening the load includes forgiving those who are not on the same page and may simply need to go their own way. Rather than slogging on through the holidays carrying an overwhelm of emotional baggage - one can try a new role on for size and when it works begin the new year or the new phase with a luminous enthusiasm and confidence that what has been left to the past served to enlighten for the duration and was given an honorable departure.

The season celebrates transition and the discarding of that which has been outgrown so that the awakened will be revitalized, refreshed, restored, reborn .. through wisdom he was required to embody, evolve, stretch and modify that he might indeed have the perfect essence to slip into his new form.

The Giveaway - A Chair for Art

While upgrading my connections and expanding my creative horizons, the art waited, quietly percolating at a local coffeehouse.

Offers to buy came but nothing panned out this time around. Still, it percolated. And then, a query. Would I like to create a work of art for a charity event? What might it be?
A chair. Anything I wanted to put on it - for approval. The timing worked and I said, of course! Why not?

So - Thanks to fabulous coffee moments and word of mouth on my coffeehouse art, I was invited to create a chair for the Overland Park Arboretum fundraiser.

That chair is on display through the end of June and in an online auction at this link.

What did I create .. I wanted to share my butterfly. At first, it was supposed to be a replica of my signature print -- but the muse struck and it morphed into more colors and a version where one wing is partially filled out - as life is a work in progress and unfoldment - so is art.

Unexpectedly, I am in Chair withdrawal. Transiting to Gardening and Kayaking (writing never stops). With my colors and leftover paint, I am reviewing my current assortment of painting refurbishment potential. An ice cream chair, dilapidated yard seat, and broken garden swing seem to be lining up to offer their assistance. I think I started something....

A midsummer pick me up? Getting to switch out some of my work at the coffee shop. The art from the Saint Luke's show is available so I can mix a few into the work now on display at The south location of The Roasterie. (119th Street)

Lots of color and fun. Great to have the opportunity to share it in a place where the walls offer such a flattering showcase... but the best perk? The coffee.

Great start to March. My art is now up in three locations and I have had a couple of sales. My coffeehouse work is the foundation for the new creations but I enjoy experimenting with other ideas and the inspiration calls to keep adding shapes, designs and words... all the while exploring more color.

Here are the art pieces I am showing at Saint Luke's hospital. It was nice to hear the feedback as I put them up. Doesn't always mean there will be a sale but it does help to know they are adding a positive vibe to the space.

Have to thank Paul Dorrell, owner of Leopold Gallery and the Art Adviser for several Corporate spaces. I am thrilled he likes my colors. Not a traditional or schooled artist, I am simply exploring my intuitive calling and freeing up all the creative energy I kept closeted - waiting for the right time.

In a way, coffee was the trigger for the wake-up call. I had given up hope of doing anything artsy even though I had so many ideas and images bombarding me in my dreams. Then, I actually had a moment while standing in line trying to figure out the correct way to place an order at Starbucks. ;)

I saw the bare walls between shows and an invitation to artists to submit samples. I thought - this is something I can do. I found something to submit. What have I learned after taking the first step? Maybe the best thing about doing art is, once you finally give in to the muse, it multiplies and upgrades. Whatever the work in progress - it just seems to be better than the work already done. Always a learning experience.

I can do art. I can ... and I am. What fun!

I have been asked if there is a trick to selling? I have no idea. What seems to happen with my work is something will trigger an emotional connection. When the piece is an animal, it may be a reminder of a pet. With the locations or scenery pieces, the colors are the bonding factor. One of the most common observations I hear when I hang my picture is. "Your colors add so much light to our walls." I take that as a compliment.

The first business card I ever created was for my intuitive work. The phrase: Wendy Garrett - Adding Light to Life. My email: lite4one@aol.com

What next? I need to determine how to showcase some of the larger works. So the search for new frames is on. I have a library of work calling me to finish ... the fun ... just doesn't stop. And I say, Thank you.

All is in motion and a busy start to 2012. The work stayed up at Block 4 months rather than 2. Am now preparing the St. Francis piece and 4 or 5 others for a space at Saint Luke's and my work is still up at The Roasterie.

This is the wall at Starbucks at Corporate Woods. I have so much work that I have not yet framed... So go the days. Living art. At least there are works to show my progress...and walls to show my work.

An artist cannot fail; it is a success to be one.

Update on the Art -- Coming down tomorrow at H&R Block Center. What a great opportunity to show my work there and it stayed up longer than I planned! Still up at The Roasterie - south location.

Reality is the "unknown" parked on our doorstep, beckoning: "Congratulations butterfly!"

~ Every truth is relative, relative to that which we have the capacity to condense into a frame of reference we can understand. And reality - Reality - is beyond words.

Limited, we are, to relying on a very rudimentary form of communication when trying to translate our experience (reality/Reality) into language or defining words. For every correct interpretation/translation there will be just as many incorrect/misinformed interpretations and translations. Truth can easily and inadvertently become obfuscated in the presence of agenda and bias.

Humans have similar parts so as to be grouped into a wonderful collective yet none is identical. Consciousness seeks awareness through each mind and creates a world that lives in and through each singular and limitless one.

And in that creation we are joined by companions (in form and non-form) who have greater abilities. Among their special talents is an ability to liberate the view of a vast conscious awareness, teeming with life, form and formless, beyond comprehension, coded into our knowing - as memory. And so we grow.

For now, reduction carries the day in manifest creation of our landscape. Keep it simple. Label everything. All is relative to what we "know" through collective or consensus definition and that limitation creates a tidy box. Fortunately, evolution calls for liberation from the box thus, the many who have cracked the box code and modeled a foreshadowing of our collective destiny to simply work around it.

When we see their legacy of upward directed visions scattered in the breadcrumbs labeled "genius", "extraordinary", "exceptional", and "transcendent" ... our future lives now.

Furthermore, the flickering dawn of the future shows us allowing for a greater (divine) potential in all beings. In valuing all the ones - not just the exceptional or a specific gender or species - we value the One. That valuing opens the door to the next plane of awareness in the greater whole - playing hide and seek with us (for now)... in the Stardust.

Power Animals - Manifesting visions

Time to make the first post of 2012 -- Wolf and Dove -- in my coffee cup ...

Animals join me in my dreams. Sometimes they teach, sometimes they model and sometimes I shapeshift to become one of my spirit messengers. In clay and on paper, I created works that combined the wolf and the dove.

Today, as we walked the dogs, our neighborhood hawk graced us with a couple of circles directly above us on the path. The meanings are personal but I can share this bit of art because that is what it reminded me of.

Spirit is ever-present in whatever form is required to trigger the connection. Wake up and smell the new year!

Honoring Spirit

This art needs words .. the number 9 is also an important element. No simple explanation for that other than the frames called for balance and 9 was the only one that felt right. 9 Kokopelli dancing into 2012. Speaks to the illusion of reality and the dance of light and life. All is not what it seems. There is a higher purpose at work. We can laugh or get locked into the seriousness of it all. No matter, it will arrive.

I created the piece. Afterward, came the support information about the 9 Gods of 2012 and I realized the connection. The words came. Never a dull moment in wonderland.

"The Spirits Warn You Twice, The Third Time You Stand Alone." - This is a living spiritual code, an essential part of divine law, fully operational, 24/7. It works, whether you see it or not.

How many times have we been warned? We will find out together. Do not look to see whether everyone else is cleaning up their house. Clean your own and others can look to you.

On a clear day... you can see.

Went to Texas for some much needed down time. On the first day, I was graced with a flyover from a hawk -- three times. I decided to take pictures of the wildlife and sat for a moment to capture the view. Just then, the Egret launched. I snapped --- FAST! So totally unexpected, this shot. In that fleeting moment, it felt like I was flying too.

H&R Block Center Show for Wendy Garrett - November thru Dec 2011

Thank you to The Roasterie for hosting my art in September and October! Time flew - I removed that display today. The next venue is already up. Friday, we got everything up at the H&R Block Center in Downtown Kansas City.

Such a cool place. The space is bright and full of light. I chose a mix of pieces. My colorful metal frames were at The Roasterie. These works are not all framed. It's a bit more informal. I was worried my colors might be too bold or the prints too small but the area works so well .. it gives them room to sing.

Am I gushing? Apparently. Oh well, it sure is nice to have such a great spot to share my colors. I could not have asked for a better way to say "Goodbye" to 2011 and "Hello" to 2012.

In living color I wanted to shout my message. The funny thing about that ... is the color ... shouts better when allowed to stand alone. World Peace - an exercise in brevity. One goal: to remind each how very precious the role of the individual is in the health of the whole.

Update ... progress

So I made progress even though I did not report it. Somehow, reporting on my progress seems to subtract time from making it. ... The writing on the wall... is on the floor. Now back to not reporting anything. You may assume I am working ... on something ... or not. - The power in the unknown.

Tales of Trees

It was one of those magical moments when Andy and I first reconnected. Meeting someone who had a strong metaphysical and intuitive connect similar to my own was incredibly refreshing. We met as teenagers and he even pointed out a blinking light. However, I wasn't ready to explore any metaphysical quirks at that time and told him he should keep it quiet too or others would think him odd.

He reminded me of that past history and what I said. Full circle, my path now showcased all of my "odd" experiences in flaming technicolor, including Spirit Guardians and 24/7 blinking nightlights. He contributed spiritual support by adding his own abilities - a connection with rocks and nature. I felt validated in ways I had long ago surrendered all hope of finding in a human connection.

We played music non-stop, our favorite songs set to auto-repeat, while (outside the windows) the trees danced and swayed. Showcased in the window frames, they seemed to be singing and celebrating in an elaborately choreographed performance... I can't describe the supernatural beauty in those magic moments. Something wonderful came to life. I connect that time as a reminder of the need to integrate my conscious world with the dimension of nature spirits.

My spirit guides have stressed there is a huge message here for us now. But it doesn't come from a source we are apt to readily honor. Some may not even allow it as a possibility. Trees are the messengers. Their guardians are speaking to us on their behalf but they are just as invisible, residing in spirit and energy form.

Today, I captured a glimpse of those guardians in my photos. Energy beings showed up in three images. How delightful to finally see them in some fashion. I have long wondered how a visual might appear for some of the sources of my inspiration.

Their forms are quite intriguing.
