Rising from the ashes. That seemed to be the theme yesterday during an airplane ride over Manhattan and where I saw the construction of the new Freedom Tower glimmering above the skyline. Then down to Westport to photograph one of my women cancer survivors for "Fifty Women," a project about women triumphing over incredible odds.

Far from Lonesome at the High Lonesome Ranch

I got to be a cowgirl last week at The High Lonesome Ranch in western Colorado, something I've wanted to do since I was about five. Finally, I made it to the high desert country just like what I remember from re-runs of High Chaparral or Bonanza, only those were filmed in Arizona and Nevada, respectively. But I wore the same boots, tan vest, leather chaps, and a big, old cowboy hat every day just like the Cartwrights... who also never changed clothes. With no cell service and Internet, I even stopped wearing my watch, which was two hours off. Anyway, who needs to know the time when you're slouched in the saddle bumping along on your horse with electric blue skies ahead and dinner at the end of the trail.... more ramblings to come. But first I gotta get these boots off !

Tristan Finalist in Doodle 4 Google National Contest

NEW MILFORD- Tristan Kane of New Milford was selected as one of two state finalists in the 7-9th grade age group in the Doodle for Google 4 Google annual competition. A participant in New Milford School system's Talented and Gifted Program, Tristan was one of 400 finalists out of a total of more than 107,000 submissions nationwide to this year's contest. This year's contest theme was, "What I'd like to do someday...". Tristan's doodle, "Imaginary Menagerie/Google Gaagle," illustrated his desire to inspire creativity. As one of the finalists, his artwork is featured on the Google contest website at www.google.com/doodle4google.
