type="html">In the next few weeks, my life will be undergoing some&amp;nbsp;significant&amp;nbsp;changes. &amp;nbsp;It started out with me &lt;a href="http://www.weritsblog.com/2013/05/for-me-war-is-over.html"&gt;leaving WAR&lt;/a&gt;, which was a game I played for 4.5 years. &amp;nbsp;I also took on a Community Management position with &lt;a href="http://statdrive.net/"&gt;StatDrive&lt;/a&gt;. &amp;nbsp;The prize pool is up over $700,000 by the way.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I've also decided to pursue a new full time job. &amp;nbsp;It's a tough decision since I've been with my current company close to a decade now. &amp;nbsp;I just feel like my time there has run its course. &amp;nbsp;It also means that I will no longer work from home, so the commute will cut into my free time.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
My free time isn't what it used to be anyway. &amp;nbsp;Over the past couple months my game playing has been in decline. &amp;nbsp;This is partly due to my&amp;nbsp;obsessive&amp;nbsp;nature when it comes to things like finding a new job and also due to just getting burned out on MMO's. &amp;nbsp;Don't get me wrong, I still like them. &amp;nbsp;I just have been playing them less.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In a few weeks I will start my new job. &amp;nbsp;It's within the same career, just a different area. &amp;nbsp;I'm excited, but nervous too. &amp;nbsp;I've built a nice little comfort zone while working at home, so being back in an office with a commute will shatter that. &amp;nbsp;On the other hand, I look forward to working with people again.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
So what does this all mean for the blog? &amp;nbsp;I'm not sure. &amp;nbsp;I currently write my posts before starting work, which won't really be doable once I start at the new job. &amp;nbsp;Instead I'll have to do my posts at night or on weekends, so we will see what happens. &amp;nbsp;I really do hope to keep this place alive and well. &amp;nbsp;Maybe I can take a page from &lt;a href="http://www.scaryworlds.com/"&gt;Scarybooster&lt;/a&gt;&amp;nbsp;and learn to post from my phone.&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Overall, I'm nervous and excited about the upcoming changes to my life. &amp;nbsp;Hopefully these changes will be for the best and I won't regret making them. &lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

There are four starting factions to choose from. &amp;nbsp;Each is suited to certain careers and has an&amp;nbsp;innate&amp;nbsp;challenge level. &amp;nbsp;For my game, I am going the easy route with the Federation.&lt;/div&gt;

There are six different professions to choose from. &amp;nbsp;Each has their own starting skills and equipment. &amp;nbsp;I am going with the Free Trader. &amp;nbsp;It should provide a good amount of freedom for me to make my fortune.&lt;/div&gt;

I found an alien artifact floating around in the middle of nowhere. &amp;nbsp;You get two choices: sell it or hand it over to a government. &amp;nbsp;I think we all know what the best choice is. &amp;nbsp;Sell it! &amp;nbsp;I've got my eyes on a ship upgrade.&lt;/div&gt;

In Smugglers 5, small ships cannot travel to other star systems. &amp;nbsp;You will need at least a corvette to do that. &amp;nbsp;Until I raise more funds, I'll be stuck flying around the Sol system. &amp;nbsp;I'm almost a third of the way there at the moment.&lt;/div&gt;

It looks like a little bit on MMO snuck its way into Smugglers 5. &amp;nbsp;There are talent trees! &amp;nbsp;Most of them appear to be combat related, but there is a nice path for traders. &amp;nbsp;You unlock points to spend by ganing experience ( combat, trading etc).&lt;/div&gt;

Sadly, the demo is limited to 300 turns. &amp;nbsp;When traveling around, it take multiple days (turns) to reach your destination. &amp;nbsp;So the turns go by pretty quickly. &amp;nbsp;I managed to rack up $80,000 before my time ran out. &amp;nbsp;Now comes the real question... is this a game I would buy?&lt;/div&gt;

I wasn't sure what the price was, I was guessing &amp;nbsp;$10 or $15. &amp;nbsp;Sadly I was mistaken, it is $29.95. &amp;nbsp;Now, I love to support Indie devs, but I'm not sure there is enough here for me to make it worth my while. &amp;nbsp;I didn't show it here, but the combat is not very exciting either. &amp;nbsp;Think of it like a old Final Fantasy screen with your ship on one side and the enemy on the other.&lt;br /&gt;

I also saw spelling mistakes, and Smuggler 4 strings. &amp;nbsp;One thing I like, and don't like about the game is that it was not made using DirectX or any other 3d library. &amp;nbsp;Instead, I think it is Windows Forms game. &amp;nbsp;Not that it's a bad thing, means I could play it over Remote Desktop or on weak machines. &amp;nbsp;However, the presentation is not the greatest I've seen.&lt;/div&gt;

There are certainly some tempting features on that list. &amp;nbsp;However, I'm just not sold at that price point. &amp;nbsp;I have other games, like X, that I already own and provide a lot of the same. &amp;nbsp;On the flip side, Smugglers 5 is easier to hop into and play if you are short on time. &amp;nbsp;If it ever goes on sale, I might be tempted to pick it up. &amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;

It should be pretty exciting. &amp;nbsp;Over the past year I have become a big fan of eSports, especially League of Legends. &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;As such, I'll be focusing more on LoL, I will also be putting together a newsletter. &amp;nbsp;So far it has been a fun gig, and I can't wait until things really get started.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
The reason for this is rather simple though. &amp;nbsp;I don't feel Mythic is giving the game the support it needs. &amp;nbsp;The game recently lost its lead developer, Keaven. &amp;nbsp;That leaves one known developer to work on the game. &amp;nbsp;That is just not going to cut it. &amp;nbsp;I'm not trying to take anything away from Kevin, but WAR is a big game and needs a team. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Sadly, this also means I won't be supporting the Arsenal of WAR Item Database or the Career Builder any more. &amp;nbsp;The latter will probably become unavailable in the next month or two since I won't be paying for another years worth of service. &lt;br /&gt;

I will still be following WAR and posting news about it here. &amp;nbsp;Who knows, maybe Mythic will show that WAR is still a priority and I will resubscribe.&lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

This weekend I played a bunch of Civilization 5 and is a great example of what I wrote above. &amp;nbsp;I don't worry about the score of the game, or even the victory conditions. &amp;nbsp;For me, Civilization is all about the journey. &amp;nbsp;The same goes for most strategy games I play.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Speaking of Civilization, there is not much better than starting a new game. &amp;nbsp;So much is unknown about the world around you. &amp;nbsp;Which resources are nearby? &amp;nbsp;How close are the other empires? &amp;nbsp;What is the geography like? &amp;nbsp;Getting those questions answered is part of what makes Civilization a great game.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
There are exceptions to my not caring about winning, of course. &amp;nbsp;League of Legends is one game where I want to win. &amp;nbsp;I even find it hard to play Normal games because I know I could be spending my time in ranked matches instead. &amp;nbsp;To spend 45 minutes in a match just to lose it ends up being pretty demoralizing. &amp;nbsp;But a win is oh so sweet.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In scenario based PvP ( WAR, SWTOR et), I really don't mind losing. &amp;nbsp;There is still character progression (forward, not backwards like LoL), and as long as the match was fun I am happy. &lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
I've played Eve on and off for at least 6 years, but I always end up leaving for one reason or another. &amp;nbsp;What really holds me back from playing is that it can just be so much work. &amp;nbsp;Lets take a look at some of the activities I'd probably do.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Trading.&lt;/b&gt; &amp;nbsp;I have some nice tool to automatically find me profitable trades, but hauling things is just plain boring. &amp;nbsp;Sure a lot of it can be done afk, but I'd like to actually play. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I could always try my hand at trading in low-sec/null sec systems, which would spice things up. &amp;nbsp;I own a Blockade Runner which I could use, but it is still a risky proposition. &amp;nbsp;Those things are not exactly cheap. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Industry.&lt;/b&gt; &amp;nbsp;The thing I dislike about Industry is collecting the raw materials needed to build stuff. &amp;nbsp;I could limit my buy orders to a single station, but that means it would just take longer to fill my orders. &amp;nbsp;Going around and collecting the materials is also not very fun.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Missions.&lt;/b&gt; &amp;nbsp;I have a nice PvE fitted Drake I could use for Level 3 or 4 missions, but I still need to get enough standings to unlock them. &amp;nbsp;Running low level missions to do this does not sound very exciting either. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Mining.&lt;/b&gt; &amp;nbsp;Zzzzzzzz&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
So much about Eve just feels like work to me, which is why I never really stick with it. &amp;nbsp;I just don't have the time, or any real goals in the game that keep me motivated. &amp;nbsp;Making more money is not really a goal, since I could easily just buy and sell a PLEX to do that.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
I had the opportunity to meet Keaven on a few occasions during visits to Mythic. &amp;nbsp;He was always very nice and open about the game. &amp;nbsp;Most importantly, he was very passionate. &amp;nbsp;You could find him on the forums having conversations with the players about a number of topics too. &amp;nbsp;While it was obvious that he never had the resources to really support WAR, he made due and the game was more enjoyable for it.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
So what does Keaven's departure mean for the game? &amp;nbsp;Sadly, nothing good. &amp;nbsp;There is only one other developer that we know is working on the game, the aptly named Kevin. &amp;nbsp;There could be others working behind the scenes of course. &amp;nbsp;I'm not sure how one person can support a MMO like WAR, but I guess we will see. &amp;nbsp;The 1.4.9 patch has already been delayed and cut back in scope, which is never a good sign. &lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
So far, it looks as if Makeb is really concentrated on a planetary mission arc. &amp;nbsp;I am only in the first area, but it has all been about the main questline, except for an extra Heroic quest. &amp;nbsp;No other extra side missions, most everything has to do with the main quest. &amp;nbsp;I am really enjoying it for that reason.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Another nice aspect of Makeb is that it seems to be very linear. &amp;nbsp;By linear, I mean that it leads me through the zone instead of having a quest hub which I constantly return to. &amp;nbsp;Since I am still only in the first area, I can't speak for the rest of the planet. &amp;nbsp;Hopefully it is the same. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Due to time constraints, I am only getting in half hour play sessions. &amp;nbsp;That is making the expansion feel quite large, at least to me. &amp;nbsp;I have not even gotten to the Macrobinoculars and seeker droids yet. &lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Spec.&lt;/b&gt; I usually spec my trooper as a Combat Medic, and did so again. &amp;nbsp;It looks like they have buffed that quite a bit with adding heals to Concussive Charge, improved Trauma Probe and even gave Kolto Bomb some loving. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Gear.&lt;/b&gt; &amp;nbsp;Prior to the expansion, I had two sets of gear, one for PvE and one for PvP. &amp;nbsp;It no longer looks as if that's the case &amp;nbsp;SWTOR's bolster system got some enhancements and will now also bolster your gear instead of just character stats. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
My current PvE gear consists of a mix of Tionese and Columi items. &amp;nbsp;It looks like these are&amp;nbsp;immediately&amp;nbsp;obsolete as the mods available from the Makeb vendor in the starting area and via 410 level crafting are better. &amp;nbsp;In fact, the vendor sells Advanced quality gear for Planetary Commendations which kinda eliminates the need to craft them. &amp;nbsp;The set bonuses from my current gear are the only thing they really have going for them.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Crafting.&lt;/b&gt; &amp;nbsp;I stopped by the crafting trainers and unlocked the 401-450 range for my Scavenging, Armstech, Slicing, CyberTech, &amp;nbsp;and Investigation. &amp;nbsp;I also spent some time to get my finished product skills up to 410, where you get the first new items.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Companions.&lt;/b&gt; &amp;nbsp;One of my favorite quality of life features added in the expansion is the new&amp;nbsp;Companion&amp;nbsp;Gift tooltips. &amp;nbsp;They now show what affect the gift will have on a summoned companion. &amp;nbsp;So I took some time and gave out a lot of stored gifts. &lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

It's called &lt;i&gt;MineD Your Step&lt;/i&gt; and if for Nexon's game, &lt;a href="http://combatarms.nexon.net/"&gt;Combat Arms&lt;/a&gt;. &amp;nbsp;Combat Arms is sort of like Team Fortress, but with more 'realistic' weapons and such. &amp;nbsp;The event will have some special rules, like only being able to use mines and knives.&lt;br /&gt;

I have not been playing very much of anything or doing any real programming either. &amp;nbsp;What have I been doing?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;StatDrive.&lt;/b&gt; &amp;nbsp;A good chunk of my free time has been spent doing work Community Management work for StatDrive. &amp;nbsp;I still can't say what I've been up to, but it is pretty cool.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Defiance.&lt;/b&gt; &amp;nbsp;I have been playing a little bit of Defiance here and there. &amp;nbsp;I'm still very early in the game. &amp;nbsp;I'm kind of waiting for the TV show to start before I start playing 'for real.' &amp;nbsp;I've found that the game doesn't really give a good into into the world and what's going on. &amp;nbsp;Hopefully the show will do that.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;BioShock Infinite. &lt;/b&gt;&amp;nbsp;I was playing a good bit of the latest BioShock game, but have taken a break. &amp;nbsp;The checkpoint system failed me and I lost about an hour and a half of play time. &amp;nbsp;So far, I have not been able to bring myself to redo it. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;DVR.&lt;/b&gt; I've been struggling to keep up with my DVR lately, so I watch something on it every day just so it doesn't fill up. &amp;nbsp;There are too many good shows on right now. &amp;nbsp;Justified, Psych, The Americans, Grimm, Suits are all on there for me to watch.&lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
I think Illyraid lacked interesting decisions to make. &amp;nbsp;As a new player, you're expected to spend your time increasing your research production and performing other building improvements. &amp;nbsp;Eventually, you are able to create another city, but that takes some time. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
A sandbox game, like Illyriad, should provide interesting decisions to players as soon as possible. &amp;nbsp;I don't think I should have to put weeks into the game before it gets interesting. &amp;nbsp;It probably explains the new player attrition web games often suffer from. &amp;nbsp;Of course, if it was an easy thing to do, they would all be doing it. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It got me thinking about my development test bed, Stellar Fortune, and whether or not my plans had interesting decisions to make early in their life. &amp;nbsp;Trading is one of the early game activities, which in itself does not provide anything too interesting. &amp;nbsp;However, &amp;nbsp;an event system which presents players with choices on how to proceed might spice things up a bit.&lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
One of the major reasons I am undecided is that they game is just so far off. &amp;nbsp;The delivery dates for most of the beta access are in 2015. &amp;nbsp; That's a long time to wait and a lot can happen between now and then. &amp;nbsp;If the project was farther along and delivered a bit sooner I would be more inclined to pony up some dough.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I am certainly not going to give enough to get 2014 access, that's just way too much for me to spend on an idea of a game.&lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
So far, I am really glad I picked up the game. &amp;nbsp;I've only had two play sessions amounting to around 1.5 hours of playtime. &amp;nbsp;I've yet to experience combat, except for a few carnival games. &amp;nbsp;Instead I've been exploring every nook and cranny of the world. &amp;nbsp;I've also tried to listen to what every npc has had to say. &amp;nbsp;There are just a ton of great little details which really make this an immersive experience.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The graphics are very nice on my xbox 360, and really server to make a vibrant world. &amp;nbsp;Like the original, there is a lot to listen to as well. &amp;nbsp;I can't comment much about combat yet, as I've yet to experience it. &amp;nbsp;So far, the game seems really solid. &lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
One of my favorite additions, which may be in 2.0 too, has to do with companion gifts. &amp;nbsp;The tooltip will now tell you what kind of effect it will have on your currently summoned companion. &amp;nbsp;No more guessing or looking up a chart on the web!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I also got a chance to play with the new Macrobinoculars and Seeker Droids. &amp;nbsp;The binoculars, when used, let you look around your current surroundings. &amp;nbsp;It kind of just zooms in a bit, and reveals otherwise hidden objects. &amp;nbsp;There is a quest line that involves them. &amp;nbsp;I'm not sure of there are other random objects that are just out there waiting to be found.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Then there are the Seeker Droids. &amp;nbsp;If you did the HK-51 quests, they will be pretty familiar. &amp;nbsp;You activate a Seeker Droid in a certain area and it will uncover some loot. &amp;nbsp;The interesting things is that they work in tandem with the Macrobinoculars to help you narrow down where to deploy the droids. &amp;nbsp;The downside is they are a consumable, so you'll either have to buy more or craft them. &amp;nbsp;There is also a new Reputation Faction, based on Nar Shaddaa, that rewards you for completing Seeker Droid missions.&lt;br /&gt;

I've joined &lt;a href="http://statdrive.net/"&gt;StatDrive&lt;/a&gt; as a part of their Community Management team. &amp;nbsp;I'm a part time member, but it is a paid position. &amp;nbsp;So this is my first step into the professional side of the gaming world. &amp;nbsp;&lt;a href="https://www.facebook.com/statdrive"&gt;What is StatDrive&lt;/a&gt; you ask? &lt;br /&gt;

StatDrive provides advanced statistical analysis, events, and community networking for online multiplayer PC games.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/blockquote&gt;
It's a bit vague, but won't be for long. &amp;nbsp;The details are still under wraps, but I will say what they have planned is pretty cool and I look forward to talking about it soon.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
What does that mean for the blog? &amp;nbsp;When things really get going, it may mean less posts. &amp;nbsp;It will also mean less game playing, but I feel the time is right for that. My enthusiasm for playing games has waned lately, but not my passion for them in general. &amp;nbsp;Interesting times ahead :)&lt;br /&gt;

KEAVEN: I highly doubt it.&lt;br /&gt;

KEVIN: I would like to add a single PVE currency that would be obtained by killing bosses, and used to purchase PVE set pieces and other rare gear from the dungeons. It would take a lot more work than the PVP currency conversion did. I would like to do a bit of clean up in the old dungeons at about the time that I were looking at doing something like this.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;b&gt;2) &amp;nbsp;Are there plans for some kind of end-content for RR100, maybe a dungeon to give them more options then Tomb of the Vulture Lord only, that could for example reward temp. pocket items?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

KEAVEN: There were no immediate plans for it, no. That’s a great idea though, and there’s no reason we couldn’t do something like that.&lt;br /&gt;

KEVIN: If we do a single PVE currency, I would also like to revisit some of the dungeons or update them… or something. I’m not entirely sure yet. Don’t hold your breath on that one though.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;b&gt;3) &amp;nbsp;Is the Stronghold Saga a recurring event (like e.g. the Wild Hunt), or a one-off (like Beyond the Sands)?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

KEAVEN: A Stronghold Saga will not repeat. This is a one-off event, which is one of the reasons I’m leaving each part continue to run for the time being. Once we end the Saga, all parts will close, and you will not see it again.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;b&gt;4) &amp;nbsp;Are there any plans in upcoming patches to address crafting? &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Warplot PvP certainly looks interesting and dare I say original. &amp;nbsp;The different paths also look interesting, like Settler, but I don't really know much about them yet. &amp;nbsp;So now WildStar is on my radar, good job with that trailer carbine.&lt;br /&gt;
