Proper grammar and ALL CAPS

We have noticed a large number of WeSay members using the CAPS LOCK to type photo descriptions and headlines. Please remember to use proper grammar and avoid using ALL CAPS typing. Just a friendly reminder.

Remember, the more information you supply with your photos, the better your odds are of being selected for one of our 30 cash winners every month. Where, when, why, etc. Using proper grammar, spelling and capitalization of words are also things that will push your photos ahead of others.

How much would you pay for WeSay?

Newsday announced it will charge its internet audience $5 per week to read its online content. That got us to thinking, how much is WeSay worth to our members? Don't get us wrong, we understand you have plenty of options on how you spend your time online.

However, running and operating a site like WeSay takes time, people, resources and yes, money. Just out of wandering curiosity, how much would you be willing to pay/donate PER YEAR to continue participating at WeSay.com? $5? $10? $20?

Be honest! We value your opinions and it would be interesting to hear what our members think on this issue.

New search function available

WeSay's Web Developer Johnny Furman has added a new search function to the site. You can utilize it there in the upper, right corner of the page. Now you can search for photos on WeSay, as well as members! Give it a try, and do a search for you own name. See if you come up in the results!

Eventually, we would like to smooth out this function and add location to your search options. That way, you can find photographers by the arae they list as their location. We'll let you know when that is possible, but in the meantime, we encourage you to update you account information by signing into your profile page and editing the information there.

You can edit your location by clicking on the "account settings" link when signed into your profile page. Try to list your location by city and state, like this: Chicago, Illinois.

While you're there, you can edit a link to your personal Web site, change your bio info, and more.

WeSay paid photographers in 24 different countries

Check out a list of countries where we paid photographers for photos they submitted at WeSay: Italy, Portugal, Serbia, Cyprus, Sweden, France, Iceland, Indonesia, Scotland, Germany, Malaysia, Kuwait, Russia, Romania, South Africa, Hungary, Philippines, Canada, United Kingdom, China, Spain, Argentina, India, and United States.

And that's just naming a few!

We sent cash to WeSay members in each of these countries. Many were paid more than once. Wanna get in on the act?

Just sign up for a free WeSay membership and upload your best news and current events photographs. We name 30 new winners at the end of each month by selecting the best photos submitted within that month. That's all you have to do, and you can earn up to $500 with no limit to how often you can win. Some of our members have already earned nearly $1,000!

Try to submit photos taken within the past month and good luck.

8,223 to be exact. We're glad to have every single one of you too! The WeSay community is growing and while we have no intention of being satisfied with the current count, it is worth pause to recognize the strength in our numbers.

As we make the push for 10,000 members and well beyond, we would like to point out a couple things:

1. Flickr may have more members, but WeSay features your photos on our homepage so your photos are likely to attract more attention.

2. It's easy to make cash at WeSay. We pick 30 winners and hand out more than $1,300 each month. All you have to do is upload photo sets with photos you shot RECENTLY of new or current events. What other site does that?

Take pride in the fact you were among the first 10,000 members at WeSay, and as always, please send us your suggestions for how we can improve our site. There's still plenty of work to be done!

Every month is a photo contest at WeSay

Just wanted to clear some things up about our monthly photo contest we are running here at WeSay. Each month, we give away $1,300. You can win more up to $500 each time you are selected and guess what? You can win multiple times!

It's pretty simple. Upload recent or current photos of news, sports, celebs, environment (you know, weather related) far out or even photos that can't fit into one of these main categories.

I have to emphasize the word CURRENT. That's what we're looking for folks! If you submit news photographs taken recently (as in, the last week or so), you have a pretty darn good chance of winning some cold, hard cash. Please, no photos of flowers or your smiling kids! For mercy's sake, NO MORE PHOTOS OF FLOWERS OR YOU SMILING KIDS!

Okay, where was I? Ah yes, submit photos with NEWS value and win cash. Can't be more straight forward than that. We pick 30 winners at the end of each month. 30! If you win, we'll send you an email with instructions on how to get your cash prize. Simple tax forms are required, but no strings attached. Good luck!

We just added a new photo category

Let's face it. If one photo is worth a thousand words, then thousands of photos probably can't all fit into a few specific categories. That's why we created a new section called "Uncategorized" for the photos you upload that just don't seem to fit into any of our five main categories.

"Uncategorized" joins "News", "Environment", "Sports", "Celebs" and "Far-Out" as options to file your uploaded photo sets under. Try to use this designation sparingly as we would prefer you uploaded photos that fit our general themes.

WeSay is not a photo storage site. Instead, WeSay is a site devoted to sharing current events and news photographs. We understand, however, that there are plenty of photos of current events that can't be logically categorized as something specific.

Here's a friendly reminder of the types of photos you SHOULD and SHOULD NOT submit.

Summer photo contest winners announced

The results of WeSay's summer photo contest are official. Congratulations to our 14 prize winners, and Nicky Sering for winning the grand prize. In all, we received thousands of images and many of the photos in each of our six categories were worthy of winning.

We will announce the winners of the WeSay Summer photo contest this Friday, Aug. 14! In all, we will hand out cash prizes to 13 photographers, and one honorable mention winner will receive a photo book from Dotphoto.

The finalists in each of the six categories for WeSay's Summer Photo Contest were announced today. Congratulations to the photographers who made the cut. If your photo is included in one of the finalists galleries, you still have a chance to win a cash prize.
