Here in Kansas City, Missouri, we love our Chef Curtis Stone, HyVee spokesman!

I was sooo fortunate, on a little hint, he was shooting commercials in the area.

With just the 'right timing' caught him going from his RV dressing room to the set and he was so kind to take a photo with me, stopped shook my hand and asked my name, then spoke my name and said it was nice to meet me. The guy is a class act. Word is he's always kind to crew, staff and bystanders.

Have a great new market for vintage and antique hunting in the west bottoms in Kansas City Missouri. Only open first friday weekends 4 large warehouses in the bottoms have a monthly 'Vintage Market'. There was apparently a line this morning an hour before they opened. It was a hot, steamy day and while I didn't find a treasure I sure enjoyed looking and finding inspiration!

This sofa looked pristine and the mocha-sanded coffee table only $42!

One of my first blog entries was regarding a dog I had attempted to give a loving home. Had named him bear because of his size. He looked like a white siberian husky. He was extremely gentle and sedate. Or so I thought. Once when a severe storm passed through while he was home alone, he tore into most everything he could, even woodwork, stripping my blinds from windows, speakers, but most of all a chair I loved.
I couldn't afford to replace it and had no experience repairing such things. Well, after about 3 yrs, some youtube videos and a good tax refund, I dove in, spent about 80 bucks (which had I known it was that cheap would have tried earlier)...and covered my chair myself :)

AND by the way, I could not afford to rehabilitate Bear, but good friends made sure he found a good home, and provided me with a bottle of wine while I cleaned the house that night, and proceeded to spend a couple of months refinishing woodwork, replacing doorknobs, rugs, blinds, etc. Poor guy, he must have been so scared and anxious because of the storm. :(

O Christmas Tree...

December 1st and my tree isn't up. Of course I've had some great excuses; low platelets, low hemoglobin, low white count, fatigue, a son that should help when I ask for it, not when its just convenient for him. So, I will look at others trees for now!

Wreaths

I managed to take some advantage of the warmth on this 21st day of November and hang my 2 wreaths on my 2 front windows. Maybe the 2 garlands across my porch now. Not ready for the tree. I need as much floor space as possible for the family Thursday in his little cottage of mine!

Then it started me wondering all the wonderful, creative ways wreaths are used to decorate!

Cancer-final chapter!

I've not blogged the details, there are far too many, but happy to report I've just had my last 8 treatments! In a nutshell 7/4/10 I was diagnosed with Acute Promylocytic Leukemia. I was in the hospital for one month from that day on receiving 7, 24hr a day treatments for 7 days. From there went thru some hell, then was release to gain strength. When I was doing better in September I received 3 more treatments, then hell. October came 3 more treatments, then hell, then Nov 14 I went into the hospital for my last 8, 2 hr treatments, 12 hours apart from Sunday night thru Thursday morning.

I will go through some rough times (hell), then better from here hopefully. Returning to work 2nd or 3rd wk of December. Last bone marrow biopsy (hopefully) wk between Christmas and NY's. I will have to take oral drugs 2 wk every three months for 2 years. I've been able to take some time to post pretties on my blog. Just enough to get me going for a bit. Working on my strength, stamina, mental and emotional health is now my focus. I have tried to be strong the entire time. I feel that if I didn't I would have caved so terribly. Now sometimes I feel like that is what I'm doing. I get very emotional. I think its starting to all hit me now because I'm in a safe place health wise. I am thankful for remission. And the energy for today to post this.

My little town of approx 1500 recently made national spotlight. If you are from 'around' the mid-west you've heard of Westboro Baptist Church or Fred Phelps. Actually he is also hit the national spotlight unfortunately on many occasions. His 'church' protests of all things- the funerals of fallen soldiers all around the country, by their belief that since God hates gays our countries soldiers are dying. Anyway- Weston, instead of violence which many would like to do, simply played loud patriotic music and had so many residents show up with large flags the protesters had no ground, couldn't be seen or heard.

HGTV website 'design trends' says VINTAGE electrics, but look around, all old is new again!
I wish I could go back to things I put in sales, gave away or I hate to say- threw out! UGH!
I wish I had my parents back again, asking if I wanted this or that. I wouldn't say, no I don't have the room!
I'm glad I have the antiques I do have and a charming old home. I always new it wasn't always good to update everything. Embrace and re-purpose or refurbish. Not everything has to be modernized!

Hootin Annie at Farmstead

Visited a private farm Saturday, open just a few times a year for an event that has vintage vendors, antique dealers, furniture makers, jewelry smiths and so much more. This place was amazing. 9 acres and besides their home, there are some outbuildings that have been refurbished with concrete floors. A upscale shed (that could be a guest house) with a chicken coop attached! The horse barn had a kitchen! Yes a kitchen! Half was the good-lookin horse stalls and the other side had a beautiful large open space that I"m sure is used for special occasions, meetings and events such as today. There is also a cozy living room with beautifully wood paneled book shelves with a fireplace. One bedroom and 2 bathrooms. One for the ladies and one for the gents! The hard working owner is an interior designer with impeccable style and a natural ability.

I knew I was one of the 'lucky ones'. I've had the love of wonderful parents and my sister, brother, their spouses and kids. Then the loves of my life, my sons. I hope someday their loves and the future children to come. But there is another group in my life. We share no bloodline. We weren't brought into the same household by a birthright. We crossed paths at an early age, too young to know what was good for us. Too young to know whats really important in life. Too young to know 'they good people' when we met them. Something bound us together, something you can't see or feel, but its as strong as steel because we are bound by choice, a choice that is based on mutual admiration. To know each other so well, faults and all that we still choose to be together. That is truly a blessing.
