The MBI is asking that we all take a short survey on your internet access. I can tell you that, I took it and it’s less than 5 minutes and painless.

www.massbroadband.org/mapping/survey.html

A constellation of Stories and Songs on July 28th @ 3pm

The West Stockbridge Public Library is happy to present Parents’ Choice award winning storyteller Davis Bates in a program of stories and songs to celebrate reading, nature and community. Entitled A Constellation of Stories and Songs , the program will involve the audience, through song and story, in a variety of cultural traditions. It will include stories selected from Davis’ wide repertoire, including international folktales, family stories from Davis’ own family, and more. You may hear how stars came to be in sky and why coyote howls a t the moon or help put a dancing wooden dog to sleep by singing a starry lullaby. There will also be plenty of participation and sing-alongs, and even a short lesson in how to play the spoons.

Pete Seeger has called Davis "thoughtful, creative, human, and a fantastic storyteller." Davis' traditional and participatory style of telling is a refreshing change from video’s and passive televised entertainment, empowering and encouraging audiences of all ages to join in the fun, and to take the stories home with them to share with others. He also encourages listeners to remember and tell stories from their own family and cultural tradition.

Davis Bates has been sharing stories and songs for over twenty-nine years, in schools, libraries, and community settings around New England and across the country. His storytelling recording Family Stories won a prestigious Parents Choice Magazine Gold Award, and was named one of the best audio cassettes of 1996 by the American Library Association’s Booklist magazine.

The performance is appropriate to all ages, and will take place at the West Stockbridge Public Library on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 starting at 3:00 pm. Be sure not to miss this wonderful family oriented entertainment event. This performance funded, in part, by a grant from the West Stockbridge Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Automation Update!

I excited to say that we have 20% of the library's collection in the C/W MARS Catalog! Now that the U.S. Mint has finished with the 50 States Quarters Program, they are beginning a new program, America's Beautiful National Parks Quarter. These new quarters will have images of many of our national parks. The U.S. Mint has asked Governor Patrick to select one site in the state to appear on the quarter. The Mount is one of the finalist sites. So if you would like to see The Mount on the reverse of a quarter please visit the link below. The best part about this is you can vote as many times as you would like for as many different sites. Voting ends at 5:00 p.m. February 26, 2009.

http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=gov3utilities&sid=Agov3&U=quarters_program

Just a fun little tidbit that I thought I would share with everyone.

Friends of the Library Book Sale

I’m happy to announce on the behalf of the Friends of the Library, that the FOL Book Sale is up and running. The Friends have created a wonderful space for the town to come and purchase used books and other items. The Book Sale is open when the library is open. We ask that you please check in with either Jodi or I before you walking across the hall to browse. Once you had made your selection you can stop by the desk at the library to pay. The Book Sale included such items, as hard cover and paper backed books, movies, audio books, computer games, and vintage tote bags.

The FOL also wanted me to let everyone know that they are once again accepting donation for the Book Sale.
