Recently, being the Western NOOB I am, I published something that said John Wayne struck me as a Doof. I am sincerely sorry, for I now realize how wrong I was. John Wayne is not a Doof. He is in fact quite the stud. He's a surprisingly great actor too. I suddenly notice this because I just got done watching Rio Bravo. It's something about his role in that that makes me think "DUKE" or "BOSS". Perhaps that's why they call him the Duke… Speaking of that classic western film, if you haven't already seen it, do it now. That's all for now, folks. I need to get back to brushing up on my Duke history. Again, sorry to offend any of you John Wayne fans.

Pip

6 Quick Reasons Why Western Films Rule The Universe

I've compiled an insightful list of 6 reasons why western films are the best in the movie industry. What I've noticed is Clint Eastwood is one of the biggest men in the history of men. He is especially awesome in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. As a matter of fact, this is my favorite western film thus far. Pretty much everything about that western is amazing. The part in the end when he and the other two have that 30 minute shootout is intense. The whistling music pushes it over the edge. I'm currently in the process of searching for more good Clint Eastwood western films. It would be much appreciated if I could get your suggestions.

Another good western that I saw the other day is called The Treasure of The Sierra Madre. It's an incredibly old western film, but it is very good. In this black and white western, two buddies are shown scavenging for money in a small town in the mountains. Their luck changes when the lead actor, Humphrey Bogart, wins the lottery. He and his friend later bump into an old man with gold on his mind. The old man convinces the two guys to use their lottery winnings and invest in gold mining equipment. The rest of this western film shows the three guys' journey through the mountains to strike it rich. They face many perils on their way such as a group of Mexican bandits that attempts to rob them of their earnings. I would strongly recommend this western film classic to any of you buffs.

I have yet to see any John Wayne western films. He strikes me as a big doof. I'm not sure I would like watching the duke on camera. It's just something about him that turns me away... I guess once you go Clint, you never go back. I suppose I'm not totally against seeing a John Wayne western film, so if you have one to recommend, please do so.

Most of the western films I've seen are more recent. Has anybody seen Tombstone? That happens to be one of my favorites. I love Doc Holiday's antics. Especially when he does the cup spinning thing... Sam Elliot is a bada** too. It sure doesn't hurt this western film when Wyatt Earp goes on that huge cowboy killing spree in the end. If you haven't seen this great western film, do it ASAP.

I don't normally like Kevin Costner films, but he has done a few decent Westerns. Of course Dances With Wolves is his best by far. I shouldn't need to say more about that western film. One of his that I saw a few weeks ago was Open Range. It was decent. Kind of predictable, though. By the way, I know this isn't a western film, but if you haven't seen Waterworld with Kevin Costner, do it now. I'm anxious to see Costner's Wyatt Earp. Let me know if that's a good one. I have no idea.

The last actor I'll talk about today is one of my favorites: Russell Crowe. If he and Clint Eastwood were to get into a fist fight, I think the world would explode. Somebody needs to put those two in a western film together. (or has that been done?) Recently, I saw 3:10 to Yuma. It was excellent. I would definitely recommend it.

Unfortunately, that's all I've got for now, if you know of any western films you would recommend, please post them. I need to get more familiar with the wild west.

Welcome, Western Film Addicts

Welcome to the (American) Western Films discussion, partner.
