McQueen Racing Announces Driver Roster for Copper on Dirt at Canyon Speedway Park

Stepping out of the driver's seat, team owner Shannon McQueen is pleased to announce a pair of Oklahoma young guns, 18-year-old Alex Sewell of Broken Arrow and 21-year-old Trey Marcham of Oklahoma City will be piloting McQueen Racing #7 Spike/Esslinger by Duane McQueen entries at the USAC-Western States Copper on Dirt event, March 1-2 at the 3/8-mile Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Arizona.

Marcham, a senior Engineering student at Oklahoma University, brings experience in Micro Sprints, Ford Focus Midgets, 360 Non-Wing Sprint Cars and asphalt Late Models, with six Championships at I-44 Speedway in Newcastle, Oklahoma, as well as having claimed both the A-Class and Non-wing A-Mains at the Inaugural Donnie Ray Crawford Memorial/Race4Life in Tulsa in 2012. Marcham made his Midget racing debut for McQueen Racing in the 27th Annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals last week where he showed poise beyond his years against some of the best racers in the World.

Sewell brings experience in Micro Midgets, Midgets and Sprint Cars, having recently captured a Top 10 at the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget series event at the third annual Battle at the Center on the 1/6-mile Mini Magic Mile at the Southern Illinois Center. At this year's Chili Bowl, Sewell claimed third in E-Main 2, transferring to D-Main 2 where he started 17th and finished ninth, three spots shy of transferring. Sewell was primarily committed to running with the Oil Capital Racing Series Sprint Car series in 2012, where he claimed rookie-of-the-year honors, with four second-place runs, six Top 5s and 12 Top 10s, as well as four Heat wins, scoring fifth-place in points. Sewell has amassed over 30 wins in Micros.

McQueen became the first woman to win a BCRA Midget championship in 2011 when she claimed the BCRA Dirt Midget crown, then claimed the 2012 USAC-Western States Midget championship, amassing four Heat race wins, nine Top 5 runs, three fast time awards and 13 Top 10s in 2012. McQueen also holds track records at Calistoga Speedway, Petaluma Speedway, Silver Dollar Speedway and Orange Show Speedway.

McQueen also recently accepted the prestigious Kara Hendrick Spirit award, one of the top awards for women in Motorsports. Established in 2003, the award is given in honor of Hendrick, one of USAC’s most accomplished female drivers, who posted a pair of USAC TQ Midget feature wins before tragically losing her life during a USAC-Western Midget event at El Cajon, CA in 1991.

McQueen Racing boasts a feature win, with Oklahoma’s Michelle Decker having claimed a win at Bakersfield in April 2012 in one of the McQueen Racing Spike/Esslinger by Duane McQueen entries.

Chili Bowl – Thursday Night West Coast Results and Recap

In what was a repeat on Wednesday night, the West Coast comprised much of the A-main field, but it was Kevin Swindell, the reigning three-time Chili Bowl champion who came out on top in Thursday’s preliminary qualifying night at the 27^th Annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals.

Ten of the 24 A-main starters were West Coast entries, with NASCAR racer Brad Sweet (Grass Valley, CA) claiming second in Gary Zarounian’s #67x Stealth/Toyota, followed by hard charger Tim McCreadie, a New York Late Model ace and former Chili bowl winner in third from 15^th in Andy Bondio’s #47x Bondio/Barnes – putting up one of the most exciting performances of the week.

Arizona’s Jerry Coons, Jr. claimed fourth in the Dooling Machine #63 Spike/Esslinger with NASCAR racer Cole Whitt (Alpine, CA) claiming sixth in the Wilke-Pak #5 Stealth/Toyota.

Arizona native J.J. Yeley claimed seventh in the McKinnie Motorsports #1^ST Hacked/Toyota with first-time Midget racer and Chili Bowl rookie D.J. Netto (Hanford, CA) claiming eighth in the Netto Farms #7N Stealth/Chevrolet. 2012 Chili Bowl rookie-of-the-year Richard VanderWeerd (Visalia, CA) claimed eleventh after starting 21^st after transferring from a B-Main in Mike Sala’s #19s Spike/Sala Chevrolet. Bud Kaeding (Campbell, CA) claimed 12^th in the Loyet Motorsports #05K Spike/Esslinger followed by Troy Rutherford (Ojai, CA) in Calvin Martens’ #11R TCR/Esslinger and Rico Abreu (Rutherford, CA) in the Keith Kunz #67 Bullet/Toyota.

Arizona’s Connor Kassik (Lake Havasu) was fifth in points after the Heats, having driven the high line to place second from sixth in the Neverlift Motorsports #115 Spike/Chevrolet. Kassik once again was flying high in A-Qualifier 1, having moved from fifth to second, including passes on Yeley and Abreu, but after bouncing off another car and suffering damage, Kassik settled for seventh. Kassik was fighting for a transfer position in B-Main 1, but suffered a flat tire, with the race going green before he could get back on the track.

California native Tyler Reddick (Corning) was looking for an alphabet soup run in the 2B Racing #2B Beast/Gaerte, having suffered from a DNF in his Heat race. Reddick moved from 12^th to fourth in C-Main 1, then advanced from 16^th to eighth on B-Main 1, four spots shy of making the A-Main.

Whitt claimed an A-Qualifer, while Rutherford claimed a B-Main. Tanner Swanson (Kingsburg, CA) claimed a C-Main victory in Ted Finkenbinder’s #3F Bullet/Chevy, coming from the rear, passing 11 cars for the win. Yeley, Sweet, Nic Faas (ABC Motorsports #12F Spike/Esslinger) and Coons all claimed Heat race wins.

West Coast Chili Bowl Results - Wednesday Night

Though West Coast entries comprised 13 of the 24 A-Main starters in Wednesday’s Chili Bowl qualifying feature, it was the Swindell show, with Tennessee’s Sammy Swindell, the five-time Chili Bowl champion cruising to the win from the pole position.

Swindell was briefly challenged by California’s Damion “The Demon” Gardner in Andy Bondio’s #47 Bondio/Barnes Chevy and Washington’s Gary Taylor in the Loyet Motorsports #05T Spike/Esslinger, but Sammy was simply dominant in taking the Wednesday’s US Fleet Tracking A-Main.

Gardner claimed second, securing himself into Saturday’s A-main, while Taylor claimed fourth after a late-race pass by “Wild Child” Jac Haudenschild who was third. “Fremont Flier” Shane Golobic (Fremont, CA) rounded out the Top five, claiming fifth aboard the AutoNet Mobile retro-Leader Card-themed Wilke-Pak #11 Stealth/Toyota.

California native Darren Hagen, the 2012 USAC-National Midget champion claimed sixth in the RFMS Racing #3 DCR/Esslinger, having narrowly edged California native Bryan Clauson at the line, who claimed seventh from thirteenth in the CTR-Curb Agajanian #39 Spike/Esslinger. Five-time USAC-CRA Sprint Car champion Mike Spencer took eighth aboard the Proflyer Enterprises #51S Spike/Proflyer with Indiana’s Brad Kuhn rounding out the Top 10 in Mason Cook’s Willit’s Towing & Recovery #10 Beast/Fontana.

Former BCRA champion Matt Streeter was having a strong run in his #14JR Spike/S&S Automotive Chevrolet before getting involved in an incident and flipping.

Former BCRA champion “T-Mez” Thomas Meseraull, Tyler Edwards (JFM entry), Jace VanderWeerd, David Prickett, Streeter and Stratton also made Wednesday’s A-main.

Arizona’s Stevie Sussex III, Taylor, Golobic, Meseraull and Hagen each recorded Heat race wins while Washington native and NASCAR star Kasey Kahne claimed a C-Main aboard the Darrah Motorsports #89 Spike/Chevy. Californian Jace VanderWeerd claimed a B-Main aboard Ron VanderWeerd’s #8v Spike/Stanton Mopar while Taylor and Hagen each recorded an A-Qualifier triumph.

After getting derailed in an incident-marred Heat 2, “Spirit of American Canyon” Travis Berryhill avoided multiple incidents to take the final transfer in C-Main 1 aboard the Manic Racing #11x Stealth/Fontana, finishing fourth after starting sixth in a race won by Kahne. Berryhill then fell short in B-Main 1, coming home 11^th after starting 16^th.

Chili Bowl rookie, 21-year-old Trey Marcham of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma learned first hand how much luck plays into the Chili Bowl. Pioloting the McQueen Racing #7 Spike/Esslinger by Duane McQueen, Marcham made one mistake in his Heat race, entering into a spin while running a strong second, getting collected by other cars, breaking a rear arm, bending a wheel and suffering a flat left front tire among other items, relegating Marcham to a disappointing eighth-place Heat finish, finishing with the flat tire.

Marcham started nearly last in C-Main1. While moving foward the front, Marcham slowed for a spinning car ahead of him, getting plowed from behind, ripping off a shock mount, ending his evening.

Kyle Larson Brings West Coast Tuesday Night Chili Bowl Triumph

Claiming his ninth consecutive Midget win, Elk Grove, CA’s Kyle Larson claimed Tuesday’s Warren CAT qualifying feature at the 27^th Annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals, fending off some of the best, including three-time NASCAR champ and two-time Chili Bowl winner Tony Stewart. Larson, Oklahoma’s Brady Bacon and Smoke claimed the podium, locking them into Saturday’s 55-lap A-Main.

Manning the Keith Kunz #71 Bullet/Speedway Toyota from the pole, Larson battled early with bacon and fended challenged from Bacon and Smoke before taking the eventual win, celebrating with donuts on the front stretch.

Arizonan Casey Shuman claimed fourth aboard the Hans Lein #2H Spike/Esslinger, with fellow Arizonan R.J. Johnson claiming seventh aboard Bobby Martin’s #51J Spike/Fontana, though having dropped a valve in the waning laps, with The Flyin’ Finn Markus Niemela claming eighth in Steve Watt’s #81 Stealth/Sala Chevy.

“Old School” Cameron Beard (Atwater, CA) who made the cross-country trek to Tulsa from California with an open trailer qualified for the A-main via points opened eyes chauffeuring Dave LaMott’s #0Z HotHead Engine Heaters/Special Things Sheetmetal/Power Up Concrete Pumping/Bob Roza Motorsports Stealth/Honda to an A-main start – having lost an oil pump drive early in the A-main. Beard excited many in an ultra competitive Heat 5 which saw him move from fourth to second, holding off heavy challenges from eventual third-place A-main finisher Brady Bacon. Beard also looked sharp in A-Qualifier 4, finishing fifth, despite running as high as third, having experience electric gremlins.

California’s P.J. Jones transferred from B-Main 2 to claim 14^th from 22^nd in the A-Main aboard the RFMS racing #98 Spike/Esslinger while Yorba Linda, CA’s Matt Mitchell made his return to racing, making the A-Main in Mike Sala’s #19w Spike/Sala Chevy after transferring from B-Main 1. Josh Lakatos (also known as “Jamal”) made the A-main after making an amazing A-Qualifier run form the back after starting in the rear after getting “chili bowled” in an early race incident.

Shuman, Sean Dodenhoff (Bakersfield, CA, Dodenhoff #9d Spike/Fontana), Johnson, and Arizona’s Shon Deskins (Calvin Martens #11t TCR/Esslinger) all claimed Heat wins, while Niemela claimed the win in A-Qualifier 1.

West Coast native Don O’Keefe, now residing in Indianapolis, took a wild ride in A-Qualifier 4 aboard his #0K LOK Enterprises Spike/Esslinger. O’Keefe was apparently shaken up and taken to the hospital by car.

During Tuesday’s festivities, David Prickett (Fresno, CA) announced that the hoods of the three Neverlift Motorsports/Western Performance Parts/David Prickett Racing Spike/Chevy cars, as well as U.S. Army veteran Joey Fabozzi’s #84 Spike/Esslinger were going to have their hoods signed by there-time NASCAR champ Stewart and NASCAR star Kasey Kahne. The hoods, all honoring the Armed Forces will be auctioned with the proceeds benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/.

Of the 17 West Coast entries on Tuesday, eight qualified for the A-main, with four of the Top 10 spots going to West Coast entries.

Over 80 West Coast Entries Hoping to Bring Coveted Golden Driller Trophy Home

With 270 entries, it’s no wonder that the 27^th Annual Chili Bowl Midget Nationals is the Super Bowl of Midget racing. Attracting the best Midget racers from throughout the U.S. and beyond, as well as a myriad of racing stars from an array of series including three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion and two-time Chili Bowl winner Tony Stewart. Joining Stewart from the NASCAR ranks will be many, including Washington native Kasey Kahne, Californians Brad Sweet, Cole Whitt and Jason Leffler, Arizona’s J.J. Yeley and Midwestern Dirt tracker, turned NASCAR star Justin Allgaier.

Hoping to bring the coveted Golden Driller home are an array of West Coast Midget champions, feature winners, veterans, young guns and car owners, many representing the Bay Cities Racing Association, USAC-Western States Midgets, Washington Midget Racing Association and Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association.

In all, over 85 drivers and teams from the West Coast will be gunning for the coveted Golden Driller trophy awarded on Saturday, January 12^th in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Qwik Trip Center. Of the West Coast entries, over 40 are representing California, 10 from Arizona, seven from Colorado, three from Washington and a lone entry from Idaho.

Former Chili Bowl winner Tim McCreadie will join forces with Andy Bondio in a quest for another Golden driller in Bondio’s #47x Bondio/Barnes. A Late Model veteran, McCreadie shocked the Midget world when he claimed the Chili Bowl title in 2006.

Joining the McQueen Racing stable will be Guthrie, Oklahoma’s Michelle Decker aboard Shannon McQueen’s #7d Spike/Esslinger by Duane McQueen and Oklahoma’s Trey Marcham, a Chili Bowl rookie aboard McQueen’s #7w Spike/Esslinger by Duane McQueen.

Joining the Neverlift Motorsports team will be Lake Havasu City, Arizona’s Connor Kassik, the 2011 USAC-Western States Rookie-of-the-Year piloting the Neverlift Motorsports #115 Spike/Chevy and Tulsa’s Jesse Frazier in the Neverlift Motorsports #151 Spike/Chevy. USAC-WS Midgets return to the 70th Anniversary of the Gold Cup Race of Champions in September at Silver Dollar Speedway, as well as returning for the 6th Annual Louie Vermeil Classic at Calistoga. Several stops in Arizona, including a three-day National co-sanction at Canyon Speedway Park in November. Four co-sanctioned races with BCRA at Placerville, Chico and Petaluma. Additional visits include Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Bakersfield Speedway (two races), Santa Maria Speedway, Plaza Park Raceway in Visalia and Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, marking an impressive 21-race Dirt schedule.

Several additional entries are expected to be announced soon, with the entry list likely to be updated daily. BCRA Releases Schedule Information & Announces "New" Division

According to a column by Bay Cities Racing Association President Rick Holbrook, the fabled racing organization is adding a Vintage Hardtop division for 2013.

According to his column, the "new" division will run the rules of Vallejo Speedway of the 60s and 70s, with "spirited exhibitions" at Petaluma Speedway, Marysville Raceway Park, Placerville Speedway and SIlver Dollar Speedway, with the Hardtop division appearing on Thursday's Gold Cup race of Champions program on Thursday, September 5. The Hardtops will also join the Midgets and Lites as part of the annual Jack London Bash Picnic & Hall of Fame the first weekend of August.

The Midgets tentatively have 11 pavement races and 9 dirt races scheduled, including being a part of the Gold Cup. On Dirt, the Midgets will visit Petaluma, Placerville and Antioch, and on pavement the Midgets will trek to Ukiah, Lakeport, Stockton 99, All-American Speedway in Roseville and Madera.

According to sources close to Western Open Wheel racing News, many of the Dirt races will be run in conjunction with USAC-Western States Midgets, hoping t improve car counts. According to Holbrook, there is also a deal pending to bring a tri-sanctioned (BCRA, USAC, WMRA) to Oregon at Roseburg.

The Midget Lites will run 16 races at Petaluma (four) including serving as a support to the second-annual 101-lap Johnny Soares Classic event, Marysville (four), Placerville (six) and one race each at Antioch and Bakersfield. The Bakersfield race will be the "Southern" leg of the North/South Civil War series with the CLS Lightning Sprints.

The Vintage Midgets will return to Lakeport, Ukiah and Madera, as well be a part in the Gold Cup festivities along with the Hardtops, with promoter Dennis Gage putting together an event that Thursday honoring racing history with 2013 serving as the 70th Annual Gold Cup.

2013 AMSOIL USAC/CRA SPRINT CAR PREVIEW & SCHEDULE

Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series Director Chris Kearns has released the schedule for the 2013 season. Showcasing twenty-two nights of action, the traditional 410s will kickoff their campaign on March 1st with the two day "Copper On Dirt" at Canyon Speedway Park. The regional series will also return to the clay ovals of Perris, Santa Maria, Watsonville, Calistoga and Yuma, Arizona. Don Kazarian's Perris Auto Speedway will host ten dates on the calendar.

The "home track" for USAC/CRA will continue to feature special events like the "Salute To Indy" on May 25th and the "Firecracker 30" on July 4th. The popular "California Racers Hall of Fame Night" is set for August 17th and the "Glenn Howard Classic" will be held September 14th. The "Southern California Fair Race" is October 5th and the champion will be crowned at the Budweiser Oval Nationals which begins on November 1st.

On the strength of seven of their nine wins at the 1/2-mile track, Mike Spencer and the Ron Chaffin Motorsports team earned their fifth straight championship in 2012. In addition to the season opening "Copper on Dirt," Kevin Montgomery's Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Arizona will host the two day "Hall of Fame Classic." Starting October 25th, the co-sanctioned event with the USAC National Series will also showcase Arizona "hot shoes" against the best from the Midwest, California, and New Mexico. Last October, "The Magic Man" Mike Martin upset the field by leading all 30-laps to claim the $5,000 victory in his 360 powered machine.

After a successful debut last season, Yuma, Arizona's Cocopah Speedway will showcase USAC/CRA for two nights of action beginning on April 19th. Owned by the Cocopah Indian Tribe, many improvements have been made to the facility, including a larger grandstand for spectators. Last June, Brody Roa led all 30-laps to join Ron Shuman, Lealand McSpadden, Mike Kirby, and Richard Griffin as feature winners at the fast 3/8-mile facility.

John Prentice's Ocean Speedway in Watsonville will feature two dates on the schedule. The Friday night events on June 21st and August 9th will open a special doubleheader with Santa Maria and could play a key role in the championship. Last season, Mike Spencer won both events at the popular 1/4-mile facility and Cody Williams set a new track record in qualifying. For more details on the Watsonville shows, visit oceanspeedway.com.

Ruben and Katy Munoz have taken over the promotions at Santa Maria Speedway and will host two dates on the calendar. The Saturday night races on June 22nd and August 10th at the 1/3-mile track will close out the special doubleheaders with Watsonville. Austin Williams returned to victory circle last June and hometown favorite Danny Sheridan scored one of the most dramatic wins in the track's history at the August show. As this writing goes to press, the new promoters are working on a website for track information.

The scenic Calistoga Speedway will showcase the popular 2-day "Louie Vermeil Classic" over Labor Day weekend. Starting August 31st, the co-sanctioned races with the USAC Western Classic Racing Series will also host vintage cars, an autograph session, auctions, wine tasting, and more events for fans to enjoy. Last September, Ryan Bernal and Kyle Hirst added their names to the winner's list at the famed 1/2-mile facility and former "home track" to the Northern Auto Racing Club.

“Fremont Flier” Shane Golobic Claims 1^st Annual Johnny Soares Classic 101-Lap Midget Race at Petaluma Speedway

After overcoming adversity earlier in the evening, “Fremont Flier” Shane Golobic methodically piloted Doug Bock’s #26 Spike/Esslinger to the win in the inaugural 101-lap Johnny Soares Classic at the beautifully manicured 3/8-mile Petaluma Speedway on Saturday, October 6.

Having started 11^th on the grid after suffering a broken rocker arm in Hot Laps, Golobic overtook USAC-Western States points leader and track record holder Shannon McQueen, inching by her #7 McQueen Racing Spike/Esslinger on Lap 94 for the win in the race honoring one of Northern California’s most fabled and respected racing legends.

Petaluma Speedway General Manager Rick Faeth hopes that the event presented by 101 Casino (http://www.the101casino.com) of Petaluma and Western Performance Parts (559-485-7442) and sanctioned by both USAC-Western States and Bay Cities Racing Association Midget series transitions to becoming the premier Midget race West of the Chili Bowl. In addition to being sanctioned by both California Midget organizations, the race awarded points towards the series championships in both organizations.

Golobic began his race to the front from the 11^th position of the 20-car field after easily claiming Qualifier #1. Golobic cautiously worked his way to the Top 5 by the halfway intermission, moving into third on Lap 60 and second on Lap 77 before passing McQueen after catching her in heavy lapped traffic on the heavy, yet smooth track surface.

A caution unfurled on Lap 96, giving fans an exciting five-lap Dash to conclude the 101-lap race, with McQueen pressuring Golobic, with dicey racing action transpiring throughout the field in the waning laps – and through most of the race, with several two, and sometimes three-wide battles.

Golobic was all smiles in victory lane, picking up back-to-back wins after winning the previous night in a Winged Sprint Car. It was his second Midget win of the year for car owner Doug Bock.

Fighting a tight car towards the end of the race, McQueen admitted Shane [Golobic] had the “better car in the final laps,” and was pleased with the intense, clean battle her and Shane had for the fans. It was McQueen’s third consecutive second-place finish at Petaluma.

McQueen, who led 67 laps, picked up the $500 bonus for leading at halfway, as well as the $100 award for setting fast time with a 15.110 lap time. Though the track was extremely fast, McQueen’s track record of 14.360 went nearly untested on Saturday – with McQueen setting the fastest lap of evening with a 14.414 lap on lap 87 of the Feature.

Fresno’s Tanner Swanson, who started fifth on the grid in Dave and Wendy Thurston’s #11 Spike/Esslinger nearly fell from the Top 10 early, also fighting a tight condition, rebounding to score third in the BCRA Hall of Famer’s potent mount that had won the three previous BCRA Dirt races. It was Swanson’s first Dirt Midget start in over a year, having mostly been competing on pavement and in Sprint Car and Silver Crown races.

Current USAC-WS Dirt points leader and former BCRA champion David Prickett of Fresno charged from ninth to claim fourth aboard the Neverlift Motorsports #15 Spike/Van Dyne, followed by three-time 2012 BCRA Midget winner Gregg Bragg of Visalia aboard Dave LaMott’s #0 Stealth/Wirth Honda in the car’s first appearance in over six months.

Popular local Sprint Car veteran Sparky Howard of Santa Rosa had locals on their feet cheering wildly, masterfully chauffeuring Rick Faeth’s #3 Beast/Chevy V4 to third from his sixth starting position by Lap 13 where he remained until Lap 48, running fourth at the mid-point and remaining in the Top 5 until Lap 83 when he was involved in an incident. After restarting, the unique V4 entry was billowing smoke – as oil on the breathers were burning off of headers – the cunning veteran played it safe and pulled it in.

San Diego’s Chris Ennis claimed sixth in the Neverlift Motorsports #151 Spike/Chevy followed by hard charger Rick Holbrook of Vacaville aboard wife Peggy’s #6 Spike/RRE Stage II Chevy EcoTec and Rough and Ready’s Gary Conterno aboard Floyd Alvis’ #83 Stealth/Wesmar. Holbrook received the $100 hard charger award courtesy of M&M Racing Photos (www.mmracingphotos.com).

Past USAC and BCRA Midget winner “Nitro” Nick Chivello of Manteca claimed ninth in the Chivello Motorsports #27 Spike/Esslinger, despite having gone laps down early after a spin that caused damage to his right side nerf and right rear tire.

Former USAC-Western States Midget champion Alex Schutte of Redding rounded out the Top 10 aboard Mason Cook’s #10 Beast/Fontana, a team debuting a brand new Beast chassis after having a chassis severely damaged just two weeks ago. Schutte raced from 16^th to seventh by Lap 13 and moved into the Top 5 on Lap 56.

Early race leader and pole sitter Danny Parker of Oakdale claimed 11^th in Bob Roza’s #21 Spike/Esslinger followed by San Rafael’s Frankie Guerrini III in the F&F Racing #63 Stealth/Gaerte Ford, who finished the final several laps with no tear offs remaining. Guerrini started eighth and moved up to fourth by Lap 13 before spinning on Lap 27 and again on Lap 66. Parker was running strong for initial 50 laps, leading Laps three through 26 and running second at the refueling intermission at Lap 50, but his car went away and he eventually fell several laps down.

After being involved in a spin on Lap 13, multiple-time BCRA and USAC victor Scott Pierovich of Alamo fell a lap down aboard his #35 Spike/Wirth Mopar, eventually settling for a disappointing 13^th place finish. Pierovich has claimed three consecutive Midget features at Petaluma from 2009 through 2011 with Fast time in 2010 and 2011.

Angwin’s Britton Bock claimed 14^th in grandfather Doug’s #62 Spike/Esslinger, while Howard was credited with 15^th after dropping out when Faeth’s gorgeous home-crafted V4 mount billowed in smoke.

Seven-time BCRA champion and current BCRA points leader “Ageless Wonder” Floyd Alvis unofficially clinched his eighth BCRA Midget championship, despite exiting about two-thirds into the race with engine woes aboard his #18 Stealth/Esslinger.

Additional entrants included Arizona’s Connor Kassik in the Neverlift Motorsports #115 Spike/Van Dyne, Carson City, Nevada’s “Mr. Popular” J.R. Williams in his #74 Stealth/Brayton Chevy, Pete Davis of Pleasanton in his #00 Hothead Engine Heaters Spike/Esslinger and veteran Midgeteer Bill Lindsey of San Carlos in Stu Donaldson’s #8 Stealth/Pontiac.

Golobic handily claimed Qualifier 1 over Alvis and Bock while Bragg easily cruised to the win in Qualifier 2 over Kassik and Schutte.

Parker unofficially claimed the BCRA Dirt Midget championship while owner Roza unofficially clinched the BCRA Dirt owner championship.

Unofficially, there were six total cautions during the 101-lap race, with 15 of 20 cars running at the finish, a remarkable feat, with zero red flags or flips on the evening. The Top 5 at the refueling intermission was McQueen, Parker, Swanson, Howard and Golobic. Chivello led the first two laps followed by Parker leading 24 laps before yielding to McQueen, then Golobic.

The race format allowed caution laps to be counted up to Lap 80, with a refueling intermission at lap 50.

“Lightning” McQueen Sets Fast Time, Finishes Second and Clinches USAC-WS Championship at 101-Lap Johnny Soares Classic

Piloting the McQueen Racing #7 Spike/Esslinger, Bakersfield’s Shannon McQueen was just seven laps away from winning one of the richest Midget races on the West, but after Shane Golobic inched by with seven laps remaining, McQueen held her line to finish second in the first annual 101-lap Johnny Soares Classic at the 3/8 mile Petaluma Speedway on Saturday, October 6.

“We hoped to bring home a win for our fans and sponsors, but we are in a championship battle and could not risk it going for the win,” stated McQueen on the front stretch following the exciting 101-lap race.

McQueen, who led 67 laps, picked up a $500 bonus for leading at halfway, as well as the $100 award for setting fast time with a 15.110 lap time. Though the track was extremely fast, McQueen’s track record of 14.360 went nearly untested on Saturday – with McQueen setting the fastest lap of evening with a 14.414 lap on lap 87 of the Feature.

Golobic overtook McQueen for the lead on Lap 94. A caution unfurled with five laps remaining, creating a five-lap Dash to the checkers. Pressuring Golobic, Shannon didn’t want to sacrifice her equipment for the win, settling for a disappointing, yet satisfying second-place finish.

“We wanted this win, but we are excited to have clinched the championship. I’d like to thank all our wonderful sponsors as well as my Dad Duane who gives me such strong engines and my Crew Chief Ty Hindman for giving me a great car every week,” states McQueen.

With her second-place finish, McQueen clinched the USAC-Western States Midget championship with two races remaining, with a commanding 151 points lead over second-place David Prickett. McQueen also gained several points on USAC-WS Dirt points leader David Prickett, with McQueen now only 29 tallies back in that battle.

McQueen started the evening strong, setting fast time with a lightning fast 15.110 mark.

McQueen has amassed four Heat race wins, ten Top 5 runs, two fast time awards, and 14 Top 10s on the year. McQueen Racing also boasts a feature win with Michelle Decker in April at Bakersfield Speedway.

Next up for McQueen is the 72^nd Annual Turkey Nite Midget Grand Prix at the ½-mile Perris Auto Speedway.

McQueen Racing Announces Third Chili Bowl Midget Nationals Midget Driver

Competing against the World’s best racers over five days, with over 250 racers competing, including a plethora of the most talented racers from an array of racing backgrounds and disciplines, McQueen Racing is hoping to contend for the coveted Golden Driller Trophy at the 27^th Annual Chili Bowl Midget Nationals.

McQueen Racing is pleased to announce Oklahoma young gun Trey Marcham as the driver of their third McQueen Racing Spike/Esslinger by Duane McQueen for the 27^th Annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals presented by General Tire at the Tulsa Exposition Raceway on January 8-12, 2013 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

21-year-old Marcham is an accomplished driver, having become a six-time points Champion at I-44 Speedway in Newcastle, Oklahoma and claiming both the A-Class and Non-wing A-Mains at the Inaugural Donnie Rae Crawford Memorial/Race4Life in Tulsa, plus capturing third in the A Class at the 2012 Tulsa Shootout. A senior Engineering student at Oklahoma University, Marcham brings experience in Micro Sprints, Ford Focus Midgets, 360 Non-Wing Sprint Cars and asphalt Late Models.

“I am very excited to work with Trey at the 2013 Chili Bowl. Honoring one of Northern California’s most fabled and respected racing legends, Petaluma Speedway General Manager Rick Faeth hopes the inaugural 101-lap Johnny Soares Classic transitions into being the premier Midget race West of the Chili Bowl.

Presented by 101 Casino (http://www.the101casino.com) of Petaluma and Western Performance Parts (559-485-7442) and sanctioned by both USAC-Western States and Bay Cities Racing Association Midget series, the $2,500-to-win race will be split into two sessions on the 3/8-mile Dirt oval, with a refueling intermission between sessions.

With an $11,000 purse and guaranteed $2,500-to-win and $275 to start the 101-lap A-main event, it’s no wonder entries are expected from the West Coast’s top Midget drivers coming from throughout the West for the October 6 race, with entries expected from California, Arizona, Washington, Nevada, Arizona and Oregon to compete on one the best race tracks in the West, with entries from multiple Midget champions, skilled veterans and young guns hoping to make an impact.

The race format allows each entry two qualifying laps, with the Top 10 locked into the A-main with the remainder of the 22-car starting grid formed by the Top six finishers of two 15-lap Qualifiers. The A-main inversion will be weighted with 4, 6, 8 and 10 inversions possible. A refueling stop will be held at half way.

USAC and BCRA tire rules will be enforced.

Currently leading the USAC-Western States Midget points by 88 points, Bakersfield’s Shannon “Lightning” McQueen will be gunning for her first win of the 2012 season this weekend, chauffeuring the McQueen Racing #7 Spike/Esslinger in the Fifth Annual Louie Vermeil Classic at the fabled ½-mile Calistoga Speedway.

McQueen, who holds the Calistoga Speedway Midget track record (20.470) set in 2009, will be vying for her first victory of the year while also hoping to grind away at David Prickett’s 29-point Western-States Dirt Midget lead.

“We would love to pick up a win at this legendary race facility and we have a car that is capable of doing so, though there will be tough competition. Maintaining our overall points lead and gaining on David’s Dirt lead are goals we need to accomplish this weekend,” states McQueen.

The two-day Labor Day weekend event, held September 1 and 2 will feature a full racing program each day, with several non-racing events throughout the weekend. The USAC-WS Midgets share the bill with the USAC/CRA and USAC Western Classic Sprint Cars in what has become one of the most anticipated races of the year on the West Coast.

Calistoga Speedway is one of the oldest, continuously operated racetracks in the nation is referred to as the fastest dirt track in the western United States – the only ½-mile Dirt track in Northern California, and the only ½-mile track on the Western States Midget schedule besides Perris Auto Speedway, which hosts the 72^nd Annual Turkey Night Midget Grand Prix on Thanksgiving Day.

RYAN BERNAL BREAKS THROUGH AT VICTORVILLE

VICTORVILLE, CA – AUGUST 20, 2012… Taking the lead from Brody Roa on lap fifteen, Hollister's Ryan Bernal led the rest of the way to score his first career Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series victory. Last Sunday's $2,500 triumph at Route 66 Motorplex in Victorville marked the opening night for the Scott Burns' promoted facility as "The Kruser" Cory Kruseman, Roa, point leader Mike Spencer, and Shane Golobic rounded out the top five drivers.

In a drive similar to his victory at Yuma's Cocopah Speedway, Brody Roa patiently hit his marks on the Victorville oval. The former Wagsdash Champion managed to hold off the Josh Ford Motorsports teammates of Shane Golobic and Bernal for many laps, but could not maintain the lead. Using a strong power move, Ryan sliced his way to the front and Kruseman, who won the previous night at Perris, slipped into second. From there, the young driver took the checkered flags in front of a large Sunday night crowd in Southern California.

Competing in his first full season with USAC/CRA, Ryan Bernal claimed the third series main event win for car owner Keith Ford. Piloting the #73 King Racing Products / A&A Precision Machine Spike, Bernal qualified eighth fast on the night and ran fourth in his heat race. As this writing goes to press, the Santa Maria track champion has climbed to fourth in the standings with two heat race victories, one Keizer Wheels / Ringers Gloves Hard Charger Award, 76 feature laps led, and seven top-5 finishes on the season.

Driving Mark Priestley's #7 Roy Miller Freightlines / Sander Engineering Bullet, Ventura's Cory Kruseman had an excellent weekend with a first and second place performance. The 2006 Champion was fifth quick in time trials and claimed second in his heat race at Victorville. Cory is seventh in points heading to Calistoga on Labor Day Weekend and has five heat race victories (series leader), five top-5 finishes, and 40 feature laps led in 2012.

Brody Roa of Buena Park scored third at Victorville and earned the night's LRB Inc. Race Products Award. Piloting the BR Performance #91R HD Industries / Burris Racing Spike with a borrowed engine, Roa timed in tenth fast and ran second in his heat race. The former Wagsdash Champion leaves the "Freeway Series" third in the point chase with one feature win, two heat race victories, one Competition Suspension Inc. / Diversified Machine Inc. Semi-Main win, 47 feature laps led, and four top-five finishes on the year.

Temecula's Mike Spencer ran fourth in the Route 66 Motorplex debut and holds a commanding lead in the standings. Driving Ron Chaffin's famed #50 Madera Produce / Grubstake Mini Storage Maxim, the 4-time defending champion scored his ninth Sander Engineering / Rod End Supply Fast Time Award of the Year and won the Extreme Mufflers Heat Race #1. Last year's Vermeil Classic winner has four heat race victories, one Keizer Wheels / Ringers Gloves Hard Charger Award, fourteen top-5 finishes, and 139 feature laps led to his credit.

Scoring fifth in the Victorville 30-lap feature was Shane Golobic of Fremont. Piloting Keith Ford's #73X King Racing Products / A&A Precision Machine Spike, the versatile driver qualified eleventh and won the DJ Safety Heat Race #3. In limited appearances with USAC/CRA, Golobic has two heat race victories and two top-five finishes on the season.

Norco's Ronnie Gardner earned the night's Keizer Wheels / Ringers Gloves "Hard Charger / Best Passing Job" honors with a sixth place run after starting seventeenth. Driving the Kittle Motorsports' #18 Pace Lighting / PJ1 Products Sherman, Gardner qualified twenty-third and won the Saldana Racing Products / Circle Track Performance Heat Race #2. It was the first 10-lap victory of 2012 for the young driver who also has four top-ten finishes on the year.

"Super" Rickie Gaunt of Torrance won the night's SBI Fuel Systems / Integra Racing Shocks Heat Race #4. Piloting David Miller's #66 Tom Roberts Designs / Barnes Systems Inc. Eagle, the 2004 SCRA Champion qualified twenty-first and claimed twelfth in the feature after starting sixteenth. In limited appearances, the popular driver has one top-5 finish in 2012.

Anaheim's Jake Swanson won the 12-lap Competition Suspension Inc. / Diversified Machine Inc. Semi-Main Event. Driving the Larry Henry / Tony Jones owned #41 VGI Graphics / Berg-Nelson Company DRC, the USAC Midget standout claimed his best finish of the year with a ninth place run after starting fourteenth. Earlier in the program, Swanson was seventeenth quick on the night and placed seventh in his heat race.

CORY KRUSEMAN GOES WIRE-TO-WIRE AT PERRIS

PERRIS, CA – AUGUST 20, 2012… Leading every lap, "The Kruser" Cory Kruseman of Ventura won last Saturday's Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car feature at Perris Auto Speedway. For the 2006 series champion, the $2,500 victory was his first triumph with car owner Mark Priestley and his first Perris win since November 27, 2010. Following Kruseman across the finish line were point leader Mike Spencer, "Dynamite" David Cardey, Nic Faas, and Ryan Bernal.

Starting on the outside of the front row, the Kruseman raced past pole-sitter Jace Vander Weerd to take the early command. Primarily running the outside line of the Perris clay oval, the veteran driver managed to build a comfortable lead over the competition. Surviving some tense moments while dealing with slower traffic and bicycling his machine on lap 24, Kruseman's lead was in jeopardy. As Cardey and Bernal quickly closed the gap, Cory recovered in time to save his lead. A caution-then-red on lap 27 for Austin Williams gave his pursuers another shot at the lead. With a hard-charging Spencer holding down second, Kruseman executed a brilliant restart and led the rest of the way to take his first Amsoil USAC/CRA checkered flags of 2012.

Driving Priestley's #7 Roy Miller Freightlines / Sander Engineering Bullet, Kruseman scored his 34th career series main event win. Earlier in the program, Cory timed in seventh quick on the night and won the 10-lap DJ Safety Heat Race #3. Huntington Beach's Nic Faas had a late race charge and scored fourth in Mark Alexander's #4 Scott Sales Company / Competition Suspension Inc. Spike. The 2008 Rookie of the Year was second fast in time trials and third in his heat race. Currently second in points, Faas has one feature win, two Sander Engineering / Rod End Supply Fast Time Awards, four heat race victories, two Keizer Wheels / Ringers Gloves Hard Charger Awards, 26 feature laps led, and eight top-5 finishes on the season.

Claiming fifth in the Perris 30-lap feature was Ryan Bernal of Hollister. The California Lightning Sprint graduate was sixteenth fast on the night and ran ninth in the feature after starting sixteenth. To date, Bezio has five top-10 finishes on the season and has been steadily moving up the ranks with USAC/CRA.

Yorba Linda's "The Cadillac" Cody Williams won his second 12-lap Competition Suspension Inc. / Diversified Machine Inc. Semi-Main of the year. Piloting Jack Jory's #44 John Jory Corporation / AMA Plastics Spike, Williams qualified ninth, placed sixth in his heat race, and scored thirteenth in the main event.
