Instead he became an actor who also recorded songs such as this one. Pope Benedict’s mother was Maria Peintner. Her mother was Maria Peintner-Tauber from South Tyrol. The name Tauber means dove or pigeon, also used in the same sense in Yiddish. Did Benedict’s ancestry include Jews from Tyrol, or is this just a name coincidence?
