Pollinator Conservation Planning Short Course in Wyoming

This day-long SARE-funded Short Course will equip conservationists, land managers, farm educators, and agricultural professionals with the latest science-based approaches to increasing crop security and reversing the trend of pollinator decline, especially in heavily managed landscapes. The current Farm Bill makes pollinators and their habitat a conservation priority for every USDA land manager and conservationist. This training session provides an overview of pollinator-specific language within the Farm Bill, and how to translate that language into on-the-ground conservation. Introductory topics include the principles of pollinator biology, the economics of insect pollination, recognizing native bee species, and assessment of pollinator habitat. Advanced modules will cover farm management practices for pollinator protection, the development of pollinator habitat enhancements, incorporating pollinator conservation into NRCS programs, selection of plants for pollinator enhancement sites, management of natural and urban landscapes, and the additional funding sources and technical support available to land managers. Throughout the workshop these training modules are illustrated by case studies of pollinator conservation efforts across the country. Visit the course website for more information and to register online.
New Agrarians: How the Next Generation of Leaders Tackle 21st Century Challenges

Quivira Coalition’s 10th Anniversary Conference

Across the nation, a new agrarian movement, centered on food and land health, is growing
into a dynamic force. Led by youth (including the young-at-heart) and their mentors, this
burgeoning movement is tackling some of the most daunting challenges of our time: food
security, land restoration, conservation, climate adaptation and sustainable prosperity. In
the process, they are overturning traditional paradigms of conservation and agriculture.
In this Conference we will hear from a wide variety of new farm, ranch and conservation
leaders and their innovative, hands-on ideas and practices that are changing the way we
look at the land, our water and ourselves. Courtney White, Executive Director
An Evening with Bill McKibben and Bill deBuys – special fundraiser
Don't miss our special fundraiser at 7:00pm Tuesday, November 8, "Is It Getting Warmer
Out There, or Is It Just Me?" - an Evening with Bill McKibben and Bill deBuys on Climate,
Land and Livelihoods in the Southwest.
If the Southwest is due to get hotter and drier, as predicted, what are our options? What
can we expect? What we can do in the short-and-long run to adapt and mitigate to a
changing climate? What are the economic and ecological opportunities and challenges? For
answers to these and other questions, please join us for an evening of lively discussion with
two of the nation's leading experts as we explore global and local topics of interest to all.
After presentations, the discussion will be opened to the audience, moderated by Courtney
White of the Quivira Coalition. Don't miss this important event. And bring your questions!

This fundraiser is open to the public. It is not necessary to attend the conference to purchase a
ticket.

Pollinator Conservation Planning Short Course

This day-long SARE-funded Short Course will equip conservationists, land managers, farm educators, and agricultural professionals with the latest science-based approaches to increasing crop security and reversing the trend of pollinator decline, especially in heavily managed landscapes. The current Farm Bill makes pollinators and their habitat a conservation priority for every USDA land manager and conservationist. This training session provides an overview of pollinator-specific language within the Farm Bill, and how to translate that language into on-the-ground conservation. Introductory topics include the basic principles of pollinator biology, the economics of insect pollination, recognizing native bee species, and assessment of pollinator habitat. Throughout the workshop these training modules are illustrated by real case studies of pollinator conservation efforts across the country. Visit the course website for more information and to register online for the event. Hurry, registration closes after 50 people!
