Whenever a Labor MP comes across a group of people who are irate about the way labor is governing South Australia they always like to blame it on the Liberals as being some sort of Liberal political stunt. Whether it’s because of the St. Clair land swap deal or the selling of the Chelsea Cinema, both local council problems, for some reason according to Labor, the Liberals are involved.

Only last week the Attorney-General Michael Atkinson tried to introduce a law that was almost draconian in nature, something that you would expect from a communist state and not from a democratic country such as Australia. Atkinson tried to introduce censorship laws that would force people to use their real name, along with their post code, when they were commenting on the internet, via blogs etc., during an election. He defended this law saying that it would prevent people putting bogus claims on the internet under phony names. On Radio 5AA while talking to Leon Byner he claimed the new law was necessary to prevent people such as Aaron Fornarino. Apparently Aaron regularly posts comments on AdelaideNow and according to Atkinson he doesn’t exist and was an obvious Liberal Party plant.

Turns out Aaron Fornarino does exist and lives in his electorate. Naturally after this major stuff up and because of the huge uproar from everyone he did a huge back flip over the whole thing.

Well, it seems that another Labor MP, not wishing to be outdone for stupidity by her colleague, decides to put her foot firmly in her mouth while passing a public rally defending mental health and sexual abuse issues. I’m pretty sure she did not know this video existed when Hon JENNIFER RANKINE MP was talking to Leon Byner on Radio 5AA. She insisted the rally was organized by the Liberals when it fact it wasn’t. it was actually organized by some independents but no, she would have none of that!

As you can see from the video, the public are none to pleased with what she had to say. The angry uproar prevents us from hearing all of her spin but what is clearly heard is her saying “Happy to address a Liberal Party Rally”. When will they get it through their thick heads that  there are people out their, who are not affiliated with the Liberal party, that are not happy with the way certain things are being handled by the current Labor Government.

Scams are rife everywhere on the net so why should it be any different with Twitter. I actually posted the article you are about to read on Wassup Blog and I thought about just linking to it but seeing as how most people don’t follow links I thought I would post it here in it’s entirety. The reasons are twofold.

1. Seeing as how many people abuse squeeze pages and email lists I thought it only fitting, because it’s pretty well bullshit, that it should be posted on this blog.
2. I thinks it’s important to all the newbie web surfers out there that they should be warned about what to expect when subscribing to these things.

I would dare to suggest that almost everyone who surfs the net regularly has been exposed to a Squeeze Page at one time or another, even though they may not have known at the time that was what it was called. I remember the first time I was ever exposed to a Squeeze Page was also the first time I got sucked into a scam. That was the time I paid good money for what was supposed to be an extensive list of companies who were willing to pay me for taking surveys. A lot of the stuff on that list was either duplicated or pure BS, and what really pissed me of was that it was all available on the net for Free!

For those of you who are not sure what a Squeeze Page is, it’s usually a single web page designed solely for one purpose, to squeeze something out of you. While sometimes they will try to sell you a system that will make you an almost instant millionaire, normally all they want is your email address so they can add you to their email list.

You could almost liken the Squeeze Page to that annoying salesman who has his foot in the door, or to those ads on TV that always promise, ‘and there is more!’ Some of these pages seem to never end. They are filled with so many sales pitches and promises that’s it’s no wonder that many people fall for them. These email lists are so important to the internet marketer that a lot of the time they will give away free eBooks and the like just so they can get you on their email list.

Why all the hype about having your email as part of their list? It’s so they can target you later for something that they have to sell. Something that will show you how to grow your own list, or perhaps even a tasty morsel that is proven to get you thousands of good quality backlinks.  Here’s a snippet of one I got today.

Where did it take me? To another Squeeze Page of course.  I don’t have any problem with Squeeze Pages if all they are used for is to sell a particular product. I’m sure that most people believe that by committing their email address it’s just so they can get their hands on that product. I wonder how many people realize that by subscribing they are opening up their doors to all sorts of offers, perhaps not even related to the product they signed up for in the first place.

I wonder if perhaps they should expand the FTC Guidelines to include a disclaimer on Squeeze Pages. Perhaps something along these lines.

I hereby swear that by subscribing to this course, webinar, free eBook or whatever, I realize that I have opened up Pandora’s box and you can freely send me any scheme or offer that you so wish and as often as you like.

OK, OK, that may be a bit over the top, but don’t you think it would be nice if they were to tell you exactly what you were in for when you subscribe to something? Would you still take up the offer of the free eBook if you knew it didn’t stop there and that there would be more sales pitches to sell you a product?

I know that a lot of internet marketers out there are doing the right thing but I bet that there a just as many who aren’t. I also know that a lot of people know exactly what they’re in for when subscribing, but I bet you there are just as many who don’t. I know I didn’t. All I’m saying is that it would be nice if every Squeeze Page came with a little disclosure explaining exactly what you are up for when you hit that submit button.

One of my the guys who commented on that particular post said that I should have mentioned that you can unsubscribe from the email lists if you so wish. This is true, but what a pain in the ass to have to go through all that when it would have been better if you never subscribed at all, especially if you signed up to a shonky one who could even sell off your email to other unscrupulous characters.

I know that there will be some people out there that will say that I pick on Rudd because I am a Liberal supporter, but that is only part of the reason. The fact is he does the most stupidest things that I can’t help but to make others aware of it. If the Liberals were in power and Tony Abbot was considering such action I would be just as outraged.

Today I was listening to a conversation he was having with 5AA’s radial personality Leon Byner where Leon asks his stance on on importing meat from countries where mad cow disease has been present. Remember that at the moment we do not allow this which is why we are currently free from this disease.

Rudd insist that they will take a conservative approach, that they will take clear ‘advice from the Australian Quarantine authorities’ and those of other experts around the world. He actually repeats at least three times that they will take the best advice before making a decision. Personally I think the decision has already been made otherwise they wouldn’t even consider such a stupid move.

I’m not an expert but I’ve done a bit of research and I’ve found some interesting facts.

• There is no cure for someone contracting this disease, it is 100% fatal
• Cooking beef does not make it safe, you eat cooked infected beef and you’re liable to get the disease.
• Once infected there is a long incubation before someone shows enough symptoms for it to be diagnosed, not that it will make any difference when you consider the mortality rate.
• The Australian Red Cross will not accept blood from anybody who has visited an infected region.
• Our current labelling laws mean that you will have no idea whether you are buying meat or a meat product that was sourced from an infected country.

The only way to ensure we are kept safe from mad cow disease is to keep the current quarantine laws. No amount of extra revenue is worth it if it puts Australian at risk, especially considering the incubation period, so by the time we have found out we’ve been infected it would already be too late.

As for taking the best advice before making the right decision, we all know how that will pan out. It will depend on who gives the advice and who’s backing them. It will also depend on political reasons and who is behind the current push. I don’t think it’s the meat industry, more likely its more to do with the meat processing side of it and I believe most of the big processing companies have major overseas interest.

Australians have been know to come up with some pretty good commercials and ads. You may remember the one the Tourism people put out called Where The Bloody Hell Are You. This ad featured a lot of the beautiful spots that Australia has to offer and finished off with a beaut sheila in a biking saying those very lines.

Well it seems that someone has taken it a little further. Just check out this video.

This has only just come in. Rudd has secretly flown to England with several ministers for and impromptu meeting with the Queen. Unbeknown to him whilst in the palace, some of the conversations were overheard by certain persons who wish to remain anonymous.

Here is an excerpt of some of those conversations that all Aussies should know about as shows us an glimpse into the characters of those politicians that are in charge of our country. We start off with a question from Kevin Rudd.

He asks her, “Your Majesty, how do you run such an efficient
government? Are there any tips you can give to me?”

“Well,” says the Queen, “the most important thing is to surround
yourself with intelligent people.”

Rudd frowns “But how do I know the people around me are really
intelligent?”

The Queen takes a sip of tea. “Oh, that’s easy. You just ask them to
answer an intelligent riddle.”

The Queen pushes a button on her intercom. “Please send
Gordon Brown in here, would you?”

Brown walks into the room. “Yes, my Queen?”
The Queen smiles. “Answer me this, please, Gordon. Your mother and
father have a child. It is not your brother
and it is not your sister. Who is it?”

Without pausing for a moment, Gordon Brown answers, “That would be me.”

“Yes! Very good,” says the Queen.

Rudd goes back home to ask Wayne Swan, his Treasurer, the same
question.

“Wayne! Answer this for me. Your mother and your father have a child
It’s not your brother and it’s not your sister. Who is it?”

“I’m not sure,” says Swan. “Let me get back to you on that one.”
He goes to his advisors and asks every one, but none can give him
an answer. Finally, he ends up in the men’s room and recognizes
Tony Abbott’s shoes in the next stall.

Swan asks Abbott, “Tony! Can you answer this for me? Your mother
and father have a child and it’s not your brother or your sister.
Who is it?”

Tony Abbott yells back, “That’s easy. It’s me!”

Swan smiles, and says, “Thanks Tony!” Then, he goes back to speak with Rudd.

“Say, I did some research and I have the answer to that riddle. It’s
Tony Abbott.”

Rudd gets up, stomps over to Swan, and angrily yells into his face

“No, you idiot! It’s Gordon Brown!”

Seriously though, after reading this article I wonder if our politicians have gone stark raving mad. Here we have a meat industry that is so pristine and respected by others and this moron is willing to throw all of that for the sake of some export deals?

Money aside, how about the health and welfare of out citizens. Do we really wish to be exposed to a life threatening disease. I think it’s outrageous that he hasn’t even considered to consult the Aussie public. What makes it worse is that because of our inadequate labeling laws we won’t even know where the meat we buy is coming from.

Considering that we produce more than enough meat for our population, good, top quality, uninfected meat why on earth would we want to import meat from countries infected with mad cows disease.
As Aussies we shouldn’t be taking this sitting down. Write to your local member and tell them we don’t want this stuff, no matter how small the chances of infection, and that we also want proper labeling laws so that we know when we are buying true Australian products.

Oh, hang on a second, it seems that they got the spelling right at the end, but no matter this email is still 100% BULLSHIT, and you all should know the drill in regards to what should be done with it.  Delete and disregard, this email as all they want is to rip you off.

The good old days! I reckon almost everyone had been exposed to that old cliché, at least once in their life. Possibly from a grandparent, a parent or perhaps even using themselves when talking to their children.

The good old day implies things used to be better in times gone by. This somehow doesn’t seem to apply in the argument over extended shopping hours in South Australia, at least when the Duopoly, Coles and Woolworths, and the interests of the major department stores and shopping centres are concerned. They want people to believe that they deserve more shopping hours.

I remember the good old days, some 35 years ago when the shops were only open 5 1/2 days per week. I remember those Saturdays when the shops closed at 12.30 how the shops used to be so busy that every checkout used to be open, especially as it got closer to closing time, and more often than not there were lines of people waiting to get served. Almost every checkout had a young boy or girl packing the groceries into bags just to move those lines a little bit quicker.

After some heavy lobbying by self interested parties the government gave into the cock and bull story that extended hours would increase employment and that it’s what people wanted. BULLSHIT!

So the hours were extended on Saturday. Instead of more jobs being created the packers slowly started to disappear. Saturday was no longer as busy as they once were and so less checkout operators were needed. The winners were shoppers, who could now sleep in, and the big companies who were taking business away from the smaller convenience stores. The losers were the shop assistants who were forces to work longer hours at the expense of spending quality time with their families.

A few more years went by and then the lobbying started again with renewed vigor. naturally the people deserved more shopping hours and if you keep telling people often enough that their rights are being deprived, sooner or later they will start to believe it. More lies and bullshit as they promise the Government, once again that it will create jobs.

Sunday trade then came into existence but were more jobs created? Not according to some store managers that I talked to at the time. They simply staggered the shifts. If you worked Sunday you would get Monday off. Salaried staff were also forced to work longer hours as this did not affect their wage budget.

As people changed their shopping hours the shops discovered on certain days that just weren’t making enough to cover their overheads. To improve profits they had to make certain cost cuts. Do you remember the days when you would go into those major department stores like Myer and David Jones and sales staff would come up to you asking if you needed assistance? Shit, today you’d be struggling to find anyone, and when you do they can’t help you because it’s not their department.  So, where are all the extra jobs those extra shopping hours were supposed to create?

Finally we arrive at the present time. You would think that seeing as how we have shopping seven days a week that the Duopoly and the department stores would be happy, wouldn’t you? Not on your bloody life. With the passing of boxing day on December 26th 2009 the lobbying has started all over again. The people have the right to shop on public holidays don’t they? And surely longer hours will create more jobs?
