I love Kodiak Point residents. All hardcore, badass shifters. And then we have Travis. A fun loving guy. Well, shifter. His antics makes you smile or roll your eyes. Or both. Who wish to be like his hero bosses: Boris, Brody, Gene and others guys. To be a kick a** shifter. Which guys most of the time laugh at. And most of the time, because of protective moma. She lost her husband. So, she keeps Travis as close as she can.

But, theres situation with Kodiaks enemy. Again. And they have to travel. Travis going to. Because his woman, Jess, is going. His married woman. Just not to him. Which have some score to settle, with her absent 'dear' husband. (Note my sarcasm here.). Oh, there is really a story to tell about. But, you will just have to read, to know more about it.

Okey, so, back to the journey. I don't think guys, expected much help from Travis. I don't say they underrated him. Just he never was in military. So, Travis don't have a training for battle. But...They all get a big surprise. Travis is more then guy with a sexy smile, who drops inappropriate jokes. He has a lot of sides, he hides. Travis can be a deadly grizzly. Especially, when his mate is in danger.

This story is no different from others. Not 'no different' in bad way. I meant it was awesome as always by Eve. Her stories always draws you in her amazing stories. Some, well almost all, her expressions are so unique. I really would love to be a guest in her mind. Lol.

And I don't even should mention, that this story have a lot of funny moments. Because...Hello! This is Eve story. You will always get a good dose of laugh.

I liked the idea behind the story here, and I found the characters enjoyable. I loved Travis, he was cute and hot at the same time. Jess was good, although I found her holding on to her marriage so long rather annoying if her husband was so awful. My problems in this book are the many, MANY, inaccuracies found in her depiction of the military. Granted, these are probably more obvious to me than to most people. But just to be certain, I googled the details and easily found most of the answers.

1). There is no such rank as Major Corporal. Its just not a thing. Nor can anyone be promoted from Sargent to Sargent Major. There are two ranks in between those.
2). In the military you cannot be deployed for anything over 12 months without an obligated amount of time spent back in the states. Anyone that has been out of the country for over 2 years is running up against their time abroad and would be required to come home for a period of time.
3). No single military member can choose to remain deployed. The military has policy in place to prevent service members from being overseas too long as they tend to become problematic, establishing long term relationships in foreign countries causing loyalty issues with the service member. Eve could have had the husband coming home & choosing not to go see Jess, because that would have been much worse.
4). There was also the silly idea that the military only seems to have one uniform, so that they would need to dye their boots to match the zone. It really shouldn't be a surprise that service members have uniforms for all weather types, green for forests, white for snow, brown for deserts with all the matching boots and accessories.
5). To me, the most offensive inaccuracy was when the young soldiers were shot & then pushed out of the jeep by the good guys. NO service member would do that. EVER. Military members no matter the branch would just sit in his lap & drive the jeep. You don't kick him out leaving his body to rot on the desert floor.

There are more, and this might seem like nitpicking, but the real details of military life are simply more interesting then the things Eve has made up to make a scene work. I have trouble enjoying romance books written with military personnel in them because often times authors choose to make up details when the reality is so much better if they would just take the time to ask.
The story of Jess (Jessica) and Travis.
In this final story of the Kodiak Point shifter series, we continue with Travis - a wise-cracking grizzly bear shifter, and the slightly older Jess - the town doctor and hawk shifter.
Jess has always found herself attracted to Travis, but there was the small matter of her having a mate and husband. A husband that was in the military and refused to even come home to visit her. Then there were the rumors of him cheating with numerous women.
Travis has known that Jess was his mate since he spotted the feisty redheaded 'Doc'. So maybe he took crazier chances with his life and limb in order to wind up in her care as much as possible.
When the opportunity to confront the crappy husband/mate comes in the form of an adventure while chasing a dangerous shifter that has plagued the town for years, both Jess and Travis go along for the ride.
What follows is a hilarious, yet swoon-worthy tale of falling in love and fated mates that will do anything and everything to protect each other.
I was sad to see this be the last story in the series, but Ms. Langlais made it awesome! Tons of action, love, and some of the funniest lines I have ever read! The series also wraps up nicely with the epilogue telling what has happened to each of the couples we have met during the series.

I enjoyed this book a lot. He characters well developed. Jennifer and Heather's relationship was well done from when they were kids to when they were 28. Sheila's persona as the traditional "b....ch" was well done. Allison's relationship with Amy was well established from the get go. It would be nice to see the 20th high school reunion and what if anything is there with Allison and Amy. Sequel please!!!$$👏👏👏👏👏👏🤗👏

I awaited eagerly this story from talented writer Linda Hill. The story was slow and the characters developed into beings not predictable from the kinds of persons initially presented.
I have enjoyed some of Linda Hill's other books, but Class Reunion seemed as if the story and characters were being rushed through. The reader doesn't have time to get to know anyone before the story is over. Ms. Hill would be well advised to use this book as a springboard and 'FINISH' this novel. The characters and the plot has lots and lots of potential. It just needs to be developed.
This is the second of Linda Hill's books that I have read. I found both to be lacking in charter definition. I agree with the reviewer that said this is a good beginning to a story. The concept is good, but she could have made it so much better by adding more detail.
Imagine leaving a painful past behind and then reluctantly revisiting it-only to face your worst fears in the form of the love of your life and her husband. But wait. Enter an attractive secret admirer who just might be the one. The characters are nice and you find yourself cheering for a happy ending. Not a red-hot romance, but a romantic tale that will make you think twice about giving your high school reunion a miss.
Linda Hill has a sweet, almost retiring style that tells a story without histrionics and improbable actions. She draws a character with care and lets the reader come along as the characters grows and copes. Class Reunion is about facing the past before you've really had a chance to cope with it. At times the story had me laughing out loud and many times I thought, "That is so true." Sometimes, a book like this is just what I need.
Imagine having a chance to live out youthful fantasies, correct old wrongs, and take new chances. That's exactly what happens to Jennifer Moreland, Sheila Hoyt, and Heather O'Brien in this story of their high school reunion and the antics that result.

Jennifer reluctantly attends her high school reunion after her sister begs her to visit her hometown. Jennifer left town after high school and has only visited on occasions like the birth of her sister's children and deaths of family members. She has bad memories from high school, especially the heartbreak she felt when her teen lover, Sheila, refused to disclose their relationship and subsequently married a man.

Sheila is anxious and hopeful she'll see Jennifer at the reunion. She and her husband show up ready to party - both in their own ways. Sheila is determined to get Jennifer in bed. Sheila's husband is determined to take revenge on Jennifer for her high school relationship with his wife. Jennifer, at first excited about Sheila's advances, realizes how much the other woman has changed. Her physical self finds Sheila hard to resist, but her heart struggles with the whole situation.

Top things off with Heather's return as well. Heather was the ugly duckling all through school glasses, braces, and an all-around nerd. She has certainly changed - and everyone, including Jennifer, notices. Heather remembers how kindly Jennifer treated her in school and sparks old memories for the other woman. Both are surprised at how things turn out. So is Sheila.

This is a great, light read with a zany cast of characters and a lot of emotional highs and lows. I like Linda Hill's writing. She creates lovable characters and delivers them in a logical, enjoyable fashion. They're as real as the gals next door.
I just read this book after I'd read Never Say Never, and was somewhat disappointed. This book didn't have nearly the relationship or character development that I admired in other book. However, it was sweet and I understand the concept that something developed during a reunion.

This book absolutely charmed me from its very first pages – with talking Royal Dogs and a good sense of humour! Fairy tale retellings rank amongst my favorite types of stories – especially ones that will make you laugh, and this one delights from the very first pages! Princess Anya makes for a charming heroine, albeit one with a rather stubborn temperament. This is a charming book that begs to be read aloud as a bed time story that will make it easy to beg for “one more chapter”. It’s a great, classic fantasy story with a Quest, a growing cast of transformed characters and plenty of fun, adventure and excitement. There is a lesson, here, too, like all fairy tales and this one is a good one! In some ways, it reminds me a bit of my childhood favorite fantasy novels by Lloyd Alexander… But with more than the titular fairy tale wrapped in here – from witches covens, Snow White, flying carpets and a lot of fun! I hope that this is the start to a series! The ending does seem suggestive that a sequel could be possible…

Frogkisser! Garth Nix Books Reviews

Garth Nix does it again! This is a wonderful book that both children and adults will enjoy. A sheltered princess and her Royal Dog go on a quest to make some magical lip balm. I really loved this fun and quirky book. I will definitely be rereading many times in the future.
I really miss this Author. This was a very nice book to read short and sweet. Could you expand and write about how the Land resolves the rest of the story please?

I have loved every book that I have read by Garth Nix and Frogkisser is no exception. It is amazing, charming, and had me hooked from the beginning. The characters are well developed and the imagery is amazing! Loved it from start to finish and may just read it again. Can't wait for more!
I ordered this book just in time for it to be delivered when I found out I had mononucleosis. I completely attribute my ability to come through a week spent mostly in bed in a positive manner to this book. I actually didn't realize it was qualified as "children's literature" until after I was finished. I simply picked it up on the assumption that I liked Garth Nix's Abhorsen books, so I should like this. Completely different, but I still loved it.

I enjoyed the main character and departure from the typical tropes while still retaining the fairy tale structure. The wizard was probably my favorite character, helping but not directly interfering. The strong female characters made it for me--there were so many diverse personalities to them!

I actually purchased this book a second time for my niece's 11th birthday present.
Ahoy there me mateys! So I have a wee bit of an obsession with Garth Nix and his wonderful stories. I love him so much that he was the featured author in me first broadside. I have read 25 of his novels. So when I heard he was writing this fairy tale I had to have it. Plus awesome cover.

In his "Acknowledgments" of this novel, Mr. Nix claims inspiration from "the works of Lloyd Alexander, Nicholas Stuart Gray, Diana Wynne Jones, Robin McKinley, and T.H. White." I don't know Nicholas Stuart Gray's work (must remedy) but I can certainly see nods to all of the other authors he listed in the story.

The story centers around Anya who is the youngest princess of the kingdom of Trallonia. One of her sister's suitors is transformed into a frog by their evil sorcerer step-stepfather. In order to stop the tears and hysterics, Anya promises to turn him back into a human. This inadvertently becomes way more complicated than originally planned thus leading Anya off on a Quest!

The subversive nature of the story is what I loved about it. Favorites include the use of the magic carpet, Gerald the Heralds, otters transformed into people, how the army is formed, having step-stepparents, snow white, etc. I very much enjoyed Anya as a character. And the frogs were just delightful.

The only downside to this novel for me was the pacing. It is a very episodic story where the heroine gets a lot of help from people she just happens to meet along the way. Makes more sense after reading the acknowledgements but I would have preferred Anya to show a lot more initiative. Of course Anya doesn't really show initiative in the beginning and is a very reluctant hero who grows into her role. But unlike many of me other Nix reads, this didn't zing.

I am okay with that lack of zing. This was a solid story with a lot of fun ideas and characters. Mr. Nix continues to remain an auto-buy author. And apparently he has a new novel coming out in October this year. Arrrr!!!

The set up is great: a recently deceased lawyer learns first that she is dead, and then that her "job" in Heaven will be to represent the "close" cases to God to determine eternal salvation or damnation. As she learns the ropes, she also learns the details of her own life, from many different perspectives, on the way to learning how to represent her "clients." However, she quickly concludes that these trials are "fixed" and do not deliver justice.

What do you do when you discover that the final judgment isn't just? This is just too heaven ya question to be supported what is basically a murder mystery, and it shows at time as the author indulges in too much philosophical rambling in sacrifice of a compelling narrative.

In the end, a fast read, and quite readable. Just not my first choice.

Touching and thoughtful... Forgiveness must be real. A strikingly thought provoking read. Let a man so examine himself. There self adoration ends and reality begins.
I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it! it was very hard to put down once I got into it. I can't wait to read more from this great author.
I loved this book! I may be a bit biased though. I saw the book in a Philadelphia Barnes and Noble, thought it looked interesting, bought it on , and only after I started reading it did I realize it takes place in my home town (which was a little freaky). But I would read it again and recommend it to people all the time.
Such a great book. I couldn't put this book down. I wanted to find out what happened to Brek. Who killed her and why? So many questions to ask ourselves regarding our effects on others life. What would the final judgement day look like? How one problem could create another problem. How some people seek revenge on some one who did them wrong , but only creates more revenge and continues the endless cycle. There are a lot of things in this book that will make a person think.
This is a beautifully written, thoughtful and compelling novel about the complexities of human connection, the nature of forgiveness and love vs. what constitues justice. The author asks readers to constantly synthesize an ever shifting landscape of narratives that are painful, provocative, surprising and perplexing, and force us to question our assumptive worlds. Just when one has rendered "judgment" on a character, the story deepens, and the character becomes more textured- and one's biases have to be interrogated yet again. No human being is one dimensional; we all have histories and life stories that constitute who we are and the choices we make. We live by making choices, and the perspectives that inform our decisions result in attendant consequences that impact others' lives as well. Who carries blame? Who is exhonerated? Who merits compassion and who deserves punishment? In essence, we all deserve all of these things by virtue of our humanity- but this is a reductive answer to some very eternal questions. This book is a philosophical, relational, and spiritual helix. I could not put it down. I highly recommend it.
A beautifully written book on a fascinating subject, but not an easy read dealing as it does with the afterlife and relying on imagination for something we know almost nothing about. It is not, however, a religious book as such, since it encompasses characters from every religion, but more of a spiritual journey, combined with a mystery of what happened during the heroine's last hours on earth.If you enjoyed "Lovely Bones" you should like this one. I liked it, but did not find it a page-turner, but there again it was not the kind of book I normally read. Full marks to the author for a first novel.
Writing a gripping story in any genre is a challenge. Writing a literary story combining spirituality, legal suspense, mystery, and a coherent vision of the afterlife is a huge challenge. Doing all this at the same time would seem impossible, yet that is what the author has accomplished.

In his previous nonfiction work, "Suing for Peace," the author tackled the assumption that litigation the way it is currently conducted gives us anything except unhappy, unsatisfied parties and their attorneys--even among the so-called winners. In "Trial of Fallen Angels," the author uses the flexibility of fiction to explore deeply the concept of justice, examining what it means within the context of the lives of these characters while skillfully weaving in narratives of justice as reflected in the stories of historical and religious figures. As lawyer/protagonist Brek learns what it means to defend souls in the afterlife, she comes up against many questions challenging her previous understanding of justice. Can a person's life be judged in anything other than its totality? When should we allow good acts to mitigate the consequences of evil ones? And is what we think of justice absolute--or context-specific? These are some of the same issues "Les Miserables" makes compelling (including its current film adaptation) in its depiction of Javert's attempts to bring Jean Valjean to justice under secular laws.

I'm a former litigator with a great interest in criminal law issues, and this book not only made me think, but was simply a good read. I highly recommend it.

This series... Wow. I love the twisted and creepy, and this series doesn't disappoint! I was on the edge of my seat with the need for answers. And - golly gee willikers - do we get some answers. My nerves were on edge for most of this book.

These people made me want to scream, rattle, and punch them. I hate that Mara is putting up with such awful characters! Not that they are awful. Just that they don't believer her. And it can't get much more frustrating than that! When people don't listen to you, don't believe what you know is true and real, especially those you love, it can drive anyone mad. Not clinically crazy though.

Mara is fighting her families belief that she is suffering from a mental illness. She knows what to do in order for people to see that she isn't losing her mind. But when things keep coming at her, when bad incidents occur over and over, she isn't sure she's not losing her mind. It's an inner struggle, an outer battle, and if it weren't for Noah Shaw, she would feel completely and utterly alone.

But honestly, for the first half of this book, I was frustrated with Noah. His silence and odd behavior was killing me. I was scared for Mara. What if he leaves? She'll have no one who believes her? But the more I thought about it and the deeper into the story we went, the more I realized we don't know much about Noah. About what he's been though. About what secrets he might be keeping.

Mara was beginning to fill with doubt about their relationship as well.

I want people to understand the reason I'm giving this book 4 stars. These stories haven't scared me. I am addicted to fear. I read Stephen King, Paul Tremblay, and more. I watch scary movies and television shows regularly. If there is a high to get from fear, I'm chasing it. Now these books, though they don't scare me to the point that they might with others doesn't mean that they aren't good. For a YA series, these books are spot on. So if you're too afraid to jump into the exceptionally dark SK books, then this series seems like an excellent choice!

And one final thought... The ending of this book? Ugh! I thought the first book ended with a bang. This one ends with a bite. Raw and savage. And I can't wait to open the third book! Which I think I will go do now!

I almost decided to hold off on a review of this one until I have read the entire series. I feel that judging one installment of a series is tough, since it is not meant to be stand-alone text. I also feel that I have wavered in my opinion of this series over the course of the first two installments and I need to read the third to really solidify my thoughts.

That being said... I will likely reevaluate my rating of this book after I have completed the series and devote a post/review to the series in its entirety. So bear with me as I sort through my scattered thoughts....

After reading the description and reviews, I told myself for months that I did not read to this one. The Twilight years have come and passed and I'm wasn't sure I wanted to turn back. However, I kept hearing mixed reviews and I always like to make my own judgement, so I decided to give the series a 'go'.

I would hope that if you have not read The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer #1), you would not be reading a review for the second installment, but hey, you never know... so I will warn you now of spoilers for the first book in this series.

When we left Mara at the end of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, she was standing in the middle of a police station in complete shock over the sighting of her (supposedly) dead ex-boyfriend, Jude. When we join her story again in The Evolution of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer #2), she is waking up in a psychiatric ward. Obviously things did not go well after the dead-ex-boyfriend-sighting.

Unsurprising to readers, Mara's family and doctors believe that her sighting of Jude is another side effect of her PTSD following the traumatic events that caused the death of her best friend Rachel, Jude, and Jude's sister, Claire. This is completely understandable, as Mara has been experiencing increasingly paranormal, strange, and unusual events throughout the series thus far, causing her family's concern for her emotional well-being has reached new heights. I mean, we are talking about an event where biological evidence of Jude's death was found at the scene of the event... This wasn't a questionable death with a lack of forensic evidence.

Things continue to get WEIRD from this point on...

Bloody messages on mirrors. Dead animals. Strange memories in the form of dreams. Mara can't catch a break and Noah, her boyfriend, is doing all he can to help protect her. But will it be enough? Does Mara have problems that are beyond the reach of Noah's need to fix things? Is there an explanation for their peculiar abilities?

My thoughts...

Yes, this storyline gets down and dirty in the realm of unrealistic. I understand this is a paranormal novel with touches of horror and psychological thriller. Yes, it paints a picture of all the YA stereotypes that we have seen over and over again. Yes, Noah is a little too Fifty Shades meets Edward Cullen for me. However, you can throw all the want... this book is without-a-doubt a major page-turner. I sit with my brows furrowed, confused and bewildered, sometimes shaking my head at the absurdity of the events... But I cannot for the life of me put the book down. Hodkin has a way of roping you in and not letting go. It's weird and I love it.

My biggest complaint is that the "twisty-ness" of the ending is not as neat and cohesive as I would like. I love when there is a shocking turn-of-events in a novel and I can go back to the beginning and see signs that I totally missed and brilliant, seamless stitching that the author used to piece together that big "GOTCHA" moment at the end. I just didn't feel it on this one. No, I wasn't expecting the ending. I wasn't expecting that turn-of-events. But I also felt like it was some-what pulled out of thin air and the author just made it work.

And yet I soldier on....

I did not even question whether or not I would be reading the third installment. No question. I will finish this one out, because MH is an entertainer for sure and I'm interested to see where she goes with this.

I will revise my review and update my thoughts on this series after I have read the final chapter.

The Evolution of Mara Dyer is the second book in the Mara Dyer series. In the first book, Mara questions her sanity because she keeps seeing Jude everywhere and he's supposed to be dead. She's losing time, she doesn't remember doing things, and she's moved things and doesn't remember it. But now she knows that Jude really is alive, she just doesn't know what she can do about it.

Mara now knows that Jude is alive but no one believes her except for Noah. She's still trying to come to grips with her ability. Her family worry for her and she's put into the Horizons Outpatient Program. There she finds Jamie Roth and he's in the program as well. Jude is still doing things behind the scenes and she's just trying to find a way to stop him. She's having dreams from the way past in India of a strange girl and it's possible that she was a family member or Mara in a past life.

Noah appears to not care about anything and life is just in the palm of his hand. But there is so much more to Noah than how he appears or what he shares. He loves Mara with his whole heart and he will do anything for her and to keep her safe. He knows Mara's not crazy or trying to hurt others. He's got security guys watching her and her family, he's trying to look into Jude and such, and just being there with Mara when she's home.

Looking forward to reading the final book in this series, The Retribution of Mara Dyer, and finding out what happens to Mara and Noah.
This series... Wow. I love the twisted and creepy, and this series doesn't disappoint! I was on the edge of my seat with the need for answers. And - golly gee willikers - do we get some answers. My nerves were on edge for most of this book.

These people made me want to scream, rattle, and punch them. I hate that Mara is putting up with such awful characters! Not that they are awful. Just that they don't believer her. In the penultimate chapter of this book, Vonnegut writes a score of his literary output, a self-produced report card, where Slaughterhouse Five and Cat's Cradle get an A+. In my opinion Palm Sunday gets a weak C. Let me first broadcast wide and loud - I Love Vonnegut, but...The reasons for this unfavorable review are as follows: 1. Very uneven writing - the book is a collection of various speeches, reviews, book jackets blurbs, reminiscences, and what not. This creates a very uneven landscape ranging from clever and hilarious speeches to literary disasters like the theatrical version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide that was written but never (thank God) produced on stage. 2. In one of the last chapters Mr. Vonnegut tries to deal with masturbation. A large part of Palm Sunday is a literary self-eroticism. His obsession with portraying his German immigrant ancestry as paragons of burgeois virtue is tiring, to say the least. Even more tiring are his efforts to portray himself as unimportant but lovable. The lady doth indeed protest too much. So here it goes, as vonnegut says in S5. Reading Palm Sunday is like going on an unplanned trip - stretches of great hardtop and magnificent views and stretches of muddy potholes anmong industrial park ruins. Oh well...

This book is only for people who have previously read and admire Vonnegut, because it's basically his memoirs in the way that a writer can do them, his speeches, letters, things that he has said, and this is a man that has said all he needed to, he once vowed to stop writing, though he retracted on that. Not a good startup for KV readers, and not even a must-have for fans, if you're a light fan and would like to read the man not the novelist, get, "A Man Without a Country" available on this site.
A rambling stitching-together of reflections, memories, and selected speeches. This book reveals Kurt Vonnegut's wry sense of humor and his enjoyment of teasing his readers. A worth-while book for those who want to learn more about and expand their knowledge of Vonnegut the writer and Vonnegut the man.
You should probably already be a fan of Vonnegut before you read this, but if you are, it's an interesting insight into an amazing humorist. If you are not already a fan of Vonnegut, might I suggest Slaughterhouse Five, Siren of Titan, and Mother Night. That should do the trick.
I am a huge Vonnegut fan and have read all of his fiction and most of his short fiction collections. Recently, I've been tackling his non-fiction collections, and I started with this one. You can't really call this a novel. It's more of a collection of random thoughts, a mini-autobiography, and an essay and speech collection. If you value Kurt Vonnegut's opinions then this book will be a great read. It's a great personal look into a man who's fiction does hint at the man behind the pen but leaves you wondering who really is behind the story.

You can find this book relatively cheaply. (Hardcover is going for 7 cents on here on .) For that price you really can't go wrong with this book, especially if you're a Vonnegut fan and don't have this in your collection.
This volume is a time-capsule of information about Vonnegut's life, as revealed by Vonnegut himself. This book is timely information not only as a memorial to his life, but also as a source of insights about the nature of the world he lived in, specifically including the McCarthy red-baiting years, but the shadows of WWII. Anyone who isn't already familiar with the U.S. fire-bombing of Dresden should be required to read this book in order to get a fuller understanding of the full consequences of warfare. There are implications for current U.S. war efforts.
I enjoy Kurt Vonnegut, I really do....but....most of this could almost be classified as reruns. I have read the same "speech" format in a lot of his books with the same information in that format, speeches that he gave at different schools for graduations, whatever. Am I the only one that feels like he could haver found something else to write about? I do know that it is just a little late now to change anything...I guess that is why I continue to read the reruns!
in my opinion, Kurt Vonnegut is one of the greatest writers of the twentieth century. For me to review his work is laughable. I can only say what I have said about everything I have read by him, it is terrific. His philosophical outlook is one of the most logical I have ever encountered, and I also admire his theories on religion (or lack thereof). I think he should be required reading in all high schools, even those who have burned his books as obscene. I obviously would recommend this book to anyone who has a slightly open mind.

The writing is just beautiful and I was captivated from the beginning. Everything about this story drew me in and kept me reading.

We meet Lucy and Ed and their friends on the night they finish year twelve. Well... most of them. They are on the search for Shadow and Poet because Lucy is convinced that Shadow would be perfect for her. Little does she know she already knows him.

I love the building relationship between Ed and Lucy. It was sweet and lovely and just want I needed today.

Spunky, creative and full of an energy that intensifies the reading! I loved everything about this book and the way it was plotted out. Highly recommend this book.

Warning for those who are more sensitive there are some choice words such as the f-word and others but other than that there was a nice Aussie feel overall!
I have always loved the night - the feeling of wandering a world with fewer people in it. This story takes place over one night - the graduation night of a teenager. Lucy, a quirky likeable artistic teenager, is fascinated with Shadow, a local graffiti artist who she has never met. Shadow draws paintings throughout the city which often contain words from his sidekick Poet. Lucy has developed a crush on Shadow as she imagines him. She and her friend Jazz are staying out all night to celebrate graduation and end up spending the night traveling about with another girl and three boys. Lucy and Jazz don't realize that two of the boys are, in fact, Shadow and Poet. Lucy and Ed, Shadow's real identity, spend the night searching for Shadow as Ed takes Lucy on a visit to some of his favorite graffiti art. The author describes the night time and Lucy and Ed in a way that allows the reader to truly feel part of their adventure. The descriptions of art, both graffiti and other works of art, are vivid. I found myself looking up all the works of art discussed in the book. The relationships between the teens and the adults in their worlds are also developed in a way that shows the adults as not perfect but helpful in the lessons in life. Although I liked the ending, I was sad the night was over.

Graffiti Moon is my new favorite book! It's adventurous and downright hilarious! I swear I haven't laughed at a book that hard ever! The characters are so funny and real that they are so relatable and easy to fall in love with. The plot was simple and beautifully written. Ed and Lucy have an underlying love building throughout the story that you will be screaming in anticipation! This book definitely goes in my top 5 (possibly top 3!) It left me wanting more even though everything came to closure perfectly. I'm sad the night is over....

We meet Lucy and Ed and their friends on the night they finish year twelve. Well... most of them. They are on the search for Shadow and Poet because Lucy is convinced that Shadow would be perfect for her. Little does she know she already knows him.

I love the building relationship between Ed and Lucy. It was sweet and lovely and just want I needed today.

After seeing the movie, "Tuck Everlasting," I immediately wanted to read the book...a lifelong habit of mine. Natalie Babbitt does an excellent job of creating a marvelous story that draws the reader in on the first page and keeps providing simple yet beautifully descriptive paragraphs to pull the reader eagerly from page to page. The main character, a young lady of only eleven (a few years older in the movie) living a sheltered, privileged, and tightly controlled life behind an iron fence, yearns to experience the world outside her gate. The woods next door belong to her father, so what harm could come to her there? Winifred makes a marvelous discovery and encounters an unusual family that provides her more affection and freedom in a short time than she previously experienced in her entire life. Her family fears she has been kidnapped, and encouraged by a mystery man, who wants possession of the woods in exchange for leading them to their daughter, discover Winifred and the family sheltering her. The mystery of what is hidden in the woods, and the unusual family's predicament supply the tension and the crux of the story. The reader is forced to consider one of the biggest of life's questions. As the old saying goes: "Be careful what you wish for; you just might get it.". What decision will Winnie make? What are the consequences of what seems a magical solution that many seek through the ages? Why is the mystery man so determined to gain possession of the woods and why does the Tuck family risk exposure to assure he does not? This is a charming, delightful story that provokes deep consideration. I recommend "Tuck Everlasting" to readers looking for beautiful writing and a story that transcends the page to probe deep into the reader's psyche. I look forward to reading more of Natalie Babbitt's work.

Tuck Everlasting is well written, and even for being a short book, definitely worth reading.
At the beginning it starts out as a small mystery for the reader, later on turning into a short story definitely focused on showing the main character’s detailed thoughts.
An interesting story with one main theme -- if you could live forever, would you?
Tuck Everlasting keeps you wondering what the characters are going to do, and if the decisions of the characters are good ones.
A must read, with a GREAT epilogue!

A beautiful story that is timeless! It's also a perfect length for you and your children to read a little quicker without being overwhelmed by the volume of the wonderful children's books today. The story is about 100 pages give or take. And I have found with some children, the long length of a book can deter them from reading. This is a perfect choice to try with ALL children young and old.

The story is about ten year old Winnie Foster, (who is almost eleven years old), who feels too confined at home and wants to explore more of the world around her...just beyond her front gate. She decides to run past her front gate to see what is beyond and meets a boy Jesse Tuck and his family who intrigue her and didn't know lived on her large family property beyond her front gate in what is called "The Wood". As she gets to know the Tuck family, she finds herself learning so much about different ways of life and also a magical secret that they must protect with Winnie's help. Winnie has to decide if she should keep the secret and in the process learns the meaning of enjoying life every day, (without the need to have such a rigid schedule). She finds new adventures and magic she never dreamed was out in the world beyond her front gate.
Tuck Everlasting is the fifth book that my daughter and I have read this summer. It is a winning and thoroughly engaging story that has left both of us talking and thinking.
The main thought of the book is, "would you want to live forever?" Good question! We follow the main character, Winnie, as she tackles this complicated decision.
At the beginning of the story Winnie is a very sheltered and safe little girl (10 years old). She plays in her carefully groomed front yard, watching things around her (including a thirsty toad). Her world is safe, slow, and somnolent - seemingly napping in the hot, dry sun.
The catalyst for change occurs when a man in a yellow suit (no, not hat, you Curious George fans). He is asking questions and seems unduly curious when they (the man and Winnie) hear a strange, almost elfin tune. The man is excited. The girl (Winnie)is motivated to make a surge forward. She runs into the forest where she discovers a young man (Jesse Tuck) drinking from a fountain hidden under stones at the base of a tree. I know, it sounds like a fairy tale. The story does come across as magical. The question is do you believe? Does Winnie believe?
Winnie is taken (kidnapped) back to the Tuck home. The house is hidden deep in the country, secluded and existing in a time of its own. The Tucks move Winnie from her safe life to a different world. Their home is messy and disorganized in contrast to her own neat home. The Tucks are delighted to meet her and treat her like a treasured family member. This also is in contrast to her own more reserved family.
Throughout her time at the Tucks they tell Winnie their story. Does she believe they will live forever? Will she keep their secret? Does Winnie want eternal life?
Different family members present different perspectives to Winnie. Jesse (stuck at about 17) is full of life and is excited by all the world has to offer. The patriarch of the family (simply called Tuck) takes her out to the lake to explain his viewpoint. He points out to Winnie the way the tides of the pond move, all the bugs, and birds, and etc. He explains how everything is born, grows, is in a constant state of flux, and then dies. His family has stopped changing, maturing, growing.
The man in the yellow suit eventually finds Winnie and the Tucks. His plan is to sell the water to "worthy" customers who can afford his hefty price. The matriarch of the family (Mae) kills the man She cannot allow the secret (to her the disaster, the epidemic) to spread to an unsuspecting public. My daughter reminds me too of what a burden this would be to the earth if no one ever died.
Mae is faced with hanging - something which would surely lead to the exposure of her secret. Winnie helps Mae escape. This is a huge departure for her. It is definitely not something she would have done before the Tucks. She is part of their world,their family now. They love each other. The act is not a legal thing to do but is it a moral thing to do? The Tucks have changed her and Winnie is willing, indeed eager, to help. The consequences are grave. Her family is shamed in front of the whole town. When questioned Winnie can only answer that she did it for love. This her mom understands. Her family forms a fortress around her then, protecting her. Winnie comes to recognize their love for her as well.
Before Jesse leaves Winnie for the last time, he gives her a vial of the Spring water. He asks her to think about drinking it when she turns 17 so they can explore all of eternity together. Will she or won't she?
The final scene is of Tuck and Mae arriving back in the main town many years later. Everything has changed. The reader has the sense that the Tucks are getting more and more stretched - like Bilbo in LOTR. Their anchor to life is back 100 years. The longer their bodies live, the less they themselves seem to be part of the living world. The reader eventually finds out if Winnie drank the water or not. The answer makes the Tucks both sad and happy. The answer also leaves the reader questioning her decision and pondering their own reactions. Overall, a very satisfying book.

This book was recommended to me by a friend who knows I don't normally read this genre. I'm glad I listened to him, because I loved it! It's good to get out of your comfort zone when it comes to books. Most of us tend to stick with what we know we'll like. This had me on the edge of my seat, or rather my bed, since I read at night before going to sleep. I loved the supernatural, good vs. evil theme, but it was the children and their powers that pulled me into the action scenes. I cared about these characters and felt protective of them. This is great storytelling! I hope this is Book One of a series.
I loved this story. The characterization was great! The characters were very believable with both strengths and weaknesses. The good guys had strengths but their share of issues as well. The foreshadowing was good and the suspense kept me turning pages to see what would happen next. I was almost late for an appointment because I got so caught up in the story that I wanted to keep reading instead of getting ready for my appointment. Wonderful story with lots of heart. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
Although this is listed as a Young Adult book I found it a great read and I am far from a Young Adult. I fell in love with almost all the
characters and had my laughter moments as well as crying. It was a much different book than what I am used to and had a great twist at the end. I do hope Kerry will be making a sequel to this. This book definitely needs a sequel.
Mr. Denney has achieved something that I didn't expect. He's pulled me back into the world of sci-fi!. I loved sci-fi in my youth but read mostly thrillers and mysteries now, but Mr. Denney destroys genre stereotypes. If you enjoy a character-driven suspenseful read that pulls you through twists and turns that are totally unexpected, then Soulsnatcher will scratch that itch that you didn't know you had. Bravo, Mr. Denney, you've re-opened my desire to lose myself again in a complex world that has been fully developed in the mind of a masterful writer.
Soulsnatcher sounds like a story you may have heard before, children with special ability pursued by evil people who want to exploit them for profit and defended by brave individuals who only want to protect them. But Soulsnatcher is so much more. Unlike the typical story of this type that focus on the psychological, emotional and physical challenges of the 'super human' characters; Kerry Denney has woven the lives of ordinary, mundane people associated with them into a complex, intriguing tale full of insight and human nature, adventure and suspense. Denney lets the reader become part of the story, feeling at home with plot, comfortable with the characters, then surprise! Denney's imagination, style and sense of suspense make this a masterful story. Soulsnatcher got me.

I really, really wanted to like this book. The premise seemed a clever twist on a on a familiar trope. I liked Will, the main male character, with his mellow voice and unapologetic introversion. I liked that he was a moderately successful science fiction writer with a doctorate in fusion physics. I loved the way he cherished the friends he did have, and tolerated his extrovert family. I even liked the cover. The book was well-written, though in the sometimes problematical first person, present tense with alternating points of view . If the narrative had been strictly from Will's POV, I'd have enjoyed it more.

Unfortunately, I never did figure out what he saw in Naomi. Naomi is an extrovert who somehow "gets" Will, but she seemed to have absolutely no depth of character. Her appearance, job, and interests were all supremely forgettable. She just seemed cheery and a mite younger than her age. She likes gooey donuts and backseat driving. She throws axes for a hobby and wears an A or B cup.

I wouldn't recall the latter except that Will mentions it. Guess how he collected the data? Yup! In spite of promising his best friend and Naomi's brother that they wouldn't, they did. A lot. Though this is a common gimmick usually sparked by "But we're adults, and he doesn' t have to know," I' m always bugged by these casually broken promises. Why not use the first part of that line with the friend/big brother who's setting up the fake relationship. We're grow-ups, and it's none of your business, bro. Of course this whole trope of big brother soliciting a fake boyfriend for little sister is kind of middle school anyway. My other issue with the sex is that it's kind of pedestrian--standard, not too raunchy description with not enough interaction rooted in character or mutual understanding to truly engage me. I don't know, it all just fell a little flat.

Needless to say, their three day weekend away with three other couples including her foam core ex, promises to be fraught with anxiety for both of them. Except it's not. The friends are nice but unremarkable as is the mildly woodsy Lake Huron setting. The author dutifully describes what they do, but there is no sense of place. Then we went for ice cream does not constitute plot or world building. I actually enjoyed most of the supporting characters. The two couples were down to earth and pleasant with the women better developed characters than the men. The ex was mildly annoying, and he and the new girl friend had some boundary issues around appropriate behavior for a group weekend. We are told of his legendary douchey-ness, but pfft--it takes more than a wall banging, face-sucking marathon to win the douche potato sweeps.

What most irritated me was Naomi's need to attack the ex without provocation as though it were some sort of rite of passage all in the name of "moving on." She does all this generic name calling because he was a self-absorbed boyfriend and an insensitive boor at their break up 6 months before. Yet she was the "pleaser." He didn't abuse her into it. In fact, during the long weekend, he's never actually mean to Naomi. Self absorbed, yeah, but that was to everyone. On the last day, he triggers her outpouring of ire by asking her how she's been. Granted it wasn't great timing, but still. . .

Maybe my biggest problem with Will and Naomi's relationship is how trivial their issues seem. They both yearn to be accepted as they are, yet they are each amazingly comfortable in their own skin. I actually like that about them, but the obstacles to their happiness seem hardly more than speed bumps, and that seriously detracts from the effectiveness of the HEA. I don't need a ton of angst, but I do like intensity in a relationship, and it seemed lacking. Hence the 3, maybe 3.5 stars. I think maybe I'm not a trope purist. I read 'em; who could avoid it? But I like my tropes with a twist, and these turned out to be more like downing simple shots. . . of apple juice. I stand by my rating, because my biases aren't unique, and I don't think these elements will appeal to every reader.

Grumpy Fake Boyfriend by Jackie Lau is a sexy and fun romantic comedy with a best friend's sibling trope, a fake relationship, and a weekend away that turns into something more.

Will Stafford is an introvert. A science fiction writer who prefers a quiet night in to the party scene, he's not keen on social gatherings, even finding his family, whom he gets along with well, agreeable in small doses. When his best friend Jeremy Kwan, the one guy he trusts to give him honest feedback on his manuscripts and his former university roommate, asks for a favor he can't say no. The favor? Be Jeremy's little sister Naomi's fake boyfriend for Canada Day weekend at a swanky beach cottage. Oh boy.

When Naomi finds out that her ex-boyfriend Jordan is going to be at a mutual friend's weekend gathering with his new girlfriend she's desperate for someone to go with her. She's had a crush on Will for years, and she knows that if she tells Jeremy of her plight, he's likely to go to Will for help – and he does. While Naomi might be doing a happy dance inside, she can't let on to her brother that she's also hoping she can convince Will that they could test out the chemistry between them, if he's willing.

Will and Naomi are opposites in temperament and ideas for fun, yet somehow they just click. While Will had every intention of keeping his hands off of Naomi other than playing an adoring fake boyfriend in public, in private things get a little more complicated. Suddenly a weekend of fun, sexy times with no strings attached (and a promise not to tell Jeremy!) sounds like an excellent plan. But Will is clear that it can't go any further. He's not interested in a relationship, no matter how well they are getting along and when the weekend is over, he plans to call it quits. But will letting Naomi go be so easy?

What a delightful romance! I enjoyed everything about this story, and really found the voices of Will and Naomi to be authentic and believable. As an introvert, Will finds being with people all the time rather overwhelming and prefers to take them in small doses. He worries that this will cause problems for him and Naomi at the weekend away when he prefers to spend some time on his own, but to his relief Naomi is perfectly content to let him enjoy his peace and quiet when he needs it. It's the first sign that she's not like the other women he's dated who have tried to change him into someone he's not. Naomi is an extrovert who likes the people and the parties and the social atmosphere but still understands him. He can't deny that adds an extra attraction to what he's already feeling for her.

Though Naomi and Will have known each other peripherally for years, their time together is when they really get to know each other. This is an insta-love romance, the kind where a sizzling sexual attraction leads to some steamy scenes and quick emotional attachment. When the weekend is over, Will thinks he'll be able to put Naomi out of his mind, but she's already firmly found a place in his heart. Still, he screws things up (they always do!) and must make amends to fix things so they get their happy ending. If you want a lighthearted and fun summer read, I highly recommend this romance and can't wait to read more by this author!

"Digital Fortress" is a debut novel from Dan Brown published in 1998. It is a high tech thriller type novel with two primary settings, NSA headquarters in Maryland and Seville Spain. The chapters shift back and forth, sometimes rapidly. The narrative style is modern and popular and thus provides a fairly easy read.

The book proved to be, at times, a true "page turner". Personally, for me, there were times that I wanted to know what happened next, only to have the scene shift away from the action, leaving the reader on hold.

When I say the action shifts, at times, rapidly, my copy, which I purchased on Kindle has 128 chapters in 371 pages. For me this made it easy to read a chapter during a quick break. However towards the end, chapters were often changing after one page, for no obvious reason. It was no big deal, it just seemed slightly strange to me. But I did really like the novel.

As is often the case, I learned a good deal from a work of fiction such as this. I has occurred to me that I have a lack of knowledge of Spain. I enjoyed reading about Seville and reading other information about Seville on my own.

On the other hand, the other setting is NEA headquarters in Maryland. In the novel, there is a collection of very brilliant people seemingly stumped by some fairly basic anagrams, epigrams, and scientific puzzles. For personal reasons, I do not wish to disclose I found some of those clues more cute than clever and would not have stumped such a collection of analysts for more than a few seconds, if at all. Some individual's minds operate in certain ways, and that is just how it is, and certain logical leaps are made almost involuntarily. Again, that is not to say this is still an enjoyable reading experience.

In summary, I liked this novel very much. It was not the huge success that some of Dan Brown's following novels proved to be. While I can appreciate why that is, I liked this novel and am very glad I had the chance to read it. Thank You...

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I'm not sure why, but I didn't realize it was a Dan Brown book, but the writing style was so smart and well-written that about halfway through it I told my husband what a great movie this would make, it reminded me of a Dan Brown movie. Duh! I rarely ever have to use the dictionary function on my kindle; in this book I was using it a lot, and I love that. I like a smart book, and learning about cryptology was cool. I also really loved that I was 3/4 of the way into the book and I really wasn't sure who the good guys and bad guys were. A case could be made for both.
Early Dan Brown, before Robert Langdon, and nearly as good. The main characters in this book are David Becker, professor of foreign language at Georgetown University (model for Robert Langdon?), and Susan Fletcher, brilliant and beautiful head cryptographer at the NSA and fiancé of David. The plot revolves around a presumably unbreakable code that was going to be released to the public free of charge, essentially putting the National Security Agency out of business as any message could be sent in the open without fear of being translated. David Becker goes to Seville, Spain, to try and track down the man who wrote the code to find the kill phrase while Susan works at her end to try and break the copy of the code the NSA received. This book has the same action, tension, history, geography and architecture and plot twists as I have come to expect (and enjoy) from Dan Brown. Also, there is just enough about cryptography to satisfy a math geek like me. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!(
This thriller centers on cutting edge technology and NSA code-breaking abilities. And what is remarkable, is that this book still packs a punch 20 years after publication. In a fast-paced world of next generations, author Dan Brown gets major kudos for staying relevant. The story is well-developed and fast-paced. There are lots of false flags, a never ending halo of panic, and lots of twists and turns. It’s a suspense thriller that entertains. Good writing makes it an easy winner. Great pick up for the beach or airplane.
Not that Dan Brown needs any reviews to boost his sales, but while I've only seen the movies for his other popular books (vice reading them), a friend loaned me his copy of this book years ago insisting that I would like it because it had a female heroin in it. I trusted my friend, not because of the female heroin part, but because he knew me well--I'm so glad I did. I seriously only like reading when I'm going to learn something or for a purpose but not really for entertainment. I hadn't read a book for entertainment in so long that my teenage kid at that time (years ago) was so shocked at seeing me read, he assumed I had to be asleep as I was engrossed in this book. I couldn't put this book down--from start to finish. I keep hoping they'll come out with the movie version as I'd love to see that movie and honestly believe it will be better than any of Dan Brown's previous movies based on one character. Don't hesitate to buy or go find this at a library or wherever, but do read this book. I had to return my copy to my friend; however, I decided to buy it now that I'm retired and re-read it with all this time on my hands.

He is particularly critical of how "thinking" is handled at the university level -- emphasis on creative thinking -- but his words strike home for other levels of education as well. He is also critical of the media --and having spent 50 years in print journalism, I would say justly so -- for its usually superficial handing of what passes for important news. He states many times in the book that if human beings would think in a better way, many of today's social ills could be cured. You can debate his ideas, but that fundamental statement of belief is indisputable.

Think! Before it’s too late, I’m afraid left me thinking ‘Get an editor, even though it’s too late.

I have respect for De Bono and he has a knack of capturing some interesting ideas, but I’m afraid his writing style seems dedicated to either burying them or fending off readers to the point that they give up trying to identify them.
As a result I feel compelled to speak more of the failings of the book than the ideas it may contain.

The book is undoubtedly far too long. A properly edited book of 20% the length would make a much better read. Let me suggest some improvements

The current book is terminally repetitive. Sometimes De Bono acknowledges the repetition and it is used mistakenly to reinforce a point, but often the repetition seems totally unplanned. It’s as if De Bono spilled a briefcase full of draft copies on the way to the publisher, haphazardly scoped them up and this became the book. I genuinely found myself checking that page numbers had not been duplicated.

There’s a sense of De Bono’s frustration that pervades the book. There are endless references to the successes, often repeated of course, with claims of real change achieved, and yet a constant sense that he feels the ideas have not been fully appreciated and adopted.

There are interminable references to his other books, and if you’ve read those then the regurgitation of those books here must multiply the sense of repetition many fold. Indeed it’s not until page 175 that there’s the bold claim that an idea is being described here for the first time! The idea, ‘Septines’ spans just over three pages and is unremarkable, but for it then leading directly to an assault on the British Awards and Honours System which it seems has seen fit to award sports personalities, but not Mr De Bono.

Along with a sense of De Bono selling his other wares, both books and training courses, the result is far from satisfying.

This is a great shame. The final chapters do feel like a cry of help from someone who feels they have been carrying the torch of change alone for too long, despite numerous examples in the book where people appear to have adopted the ideas.

Amongst all of this I did find myself scribbling notes, particularly of some of the examples of results achieved when the described tools have been put to use. There is some good stuff in here.

If only someone could have wrested the manuscript from De Bono’s hand to wield a red pen and carve out from the draft the key points in a coherent structure, I’m sure this would be a better book and one that might be much more effective at soliciting the support that De Bono seems to be in search of.

It’s a book to get from the library rather than one worth adding to your reference collection.
Yes little disappointed the book is presented, compare what and how previously books are written. But I am a great fan of De Bono and this book will not stop me buying his other books in the future.
This book gives a good summary of all his previous one yet it contains some new stuff that I had not seen before.

Very typical De Bono and well worth listening to (at least twice - more is better). Although you may not feel as though any thing "specific" has been learned, this audio really stimulates thinking about how we should be thinking.
I agree with De Bono that learning to think is just as important if not more important than learning facts ie gaining information. Through learning to think and think laterally, we become more creative. In this new age of doing business it is more important to be creative than to be competitive.
This was the first book I read from de Bono and many people seem to like his earlier work.
I love the basic concepts and the mission behind the book.
But I have a problem with the price(for 12$ Ive bought both longer and more substantial books).
It's also very repetetive and I in my opinion the author praises his own achievements a bit too much. Theres nothing wrong with a few examples but here he needs to pull up million dollar figures and governement wide changes because of him.
But the thing that will make me hesistate the most on buying a new book from him I think is the repetetiveness.
I do hope I get proven wrong down the line because the potential is so good.

Glorious! Nonpareil! Delicious! Bound by Moonlight by Nancy Gideon is the cornucopia of a thrilling paranormal romance. Gideon's bold characters will leave you with a story to cherish. Her ability to capture and reflect the complex elements in human nature are masterful. Max Savoie is the epitome of what a alpha character should be. He has the ability to melt you with just a look! Cee Cee's character is complex and believable, she comes alive on the pages. Nancy Gideon has weaved an incredible story by which the only outcome is intense cravings for more, and more she delivers. Undeniably, hands down, one of the best paranormal books of the year! Followers of the series will only rage for more. Gideon will leave you hanging on her every word!

As an addicted knitter, I went nuts over this book! I love how rugged, strong, brave pirates learn how knitting can fit right in with their lifestyle. The story is fun and filled with suspense as a pirate eating monster almost devours the ship. Of course, Ned's knitting saves the day, which is just as it should be!

Bravo, Ned! Knit on.

And bravo, Diana Murray for delightful rhyme and an entertaining story. Also, Lammle's illustrations are perfect for this tale.

I know children will enjoy this book, but I also hope it inspires them to knit. I could write volumes on how healthy and therapeutic knitting can be for children, not to mention how fabulous it is for teaching math. Schools should offer it beginning in elementary school. They do in other countries, to great success.

A suggestion: If you purchase this book, purchase a hard copy and not the Kindle version. The print is small on the Kindle version, and the story and illustrations really need to be enjoyed in the glory of full, picture book-size pages.

PS: Murray's CITY SHAPES is another outstanding picture book by her. Highly recommend. I've yet to read her other books, but I'm sure going to now.

I read in tbe schools and that gets me to know more about childrens books. My love of knitting go me to take notice of this book which I bought as a gift. It was so good that I recommended for the read aloud program.
I am a knitter and will now be using this book in lieu of a gift card on my knitted baby gifts.
Absolutely delightful! And will introduce children to the concept of knitting.
What a delightful twist on a pirate theme! Rollicking, rhythmic, and with a subtle, but fun message that it's okay to be a little different. I can't wait to share Ned the Knitting Pirate with my class.
This is pretty cute. I tried to make up a tune to the song. My kids enjoy the book. It probably helps that I'm actually a knitter, so they know what knitting is.
My sister is a bona fide tall ship sailor and an amazing knitter and this book has both! My three year old loves this book. The rhythm is really easy to make into a song. The illustrations have great hidden treasures. It's just all around fun!

The story is empowering for any child but especially so for a child who pursues different hobbies and interests. It imparts a positive message that we all have something to contribute and acceptance is the name of the game. The illustrations are beautiful! Love this book! A Summer to Remember A Bedwyn Family Novel Get Connected Romances Mary Balogh 9780440236634 Books Reviews

This was the first 'romance' novel I have ever read. One night a few months ago I discovered I had nothing to read and after trying TV for an hour or so I found myself looking for something to do. My wife had just finished this book and told me the basic story. As a small time writer it sounded intriguing so I gave it a try.

Was this book a 10?

No it was not.

BUT it was very good for what it is - a book to entertain you for a few hours. The characters were likable and the writting was very good. It stumbled in a couple of places but overall the story was interesting. I read it in 2 evenings and really did enjoy it. I did bring it to work with me and read a few pages at work during my lunch. And a couple of the women looked me a little bit like 'are you out of you mind'? I have never really thought about books like a woman should read this and man should enjoy that.

But to me good writting and a unique story idea should be read by everyone.

I highly reccomend this book to all readers. I firmly believe that many men will enjoy it as I did.

I would rate this a very solid 8.5 to 9.0 out of 10!
I absolutely loved the hero of this book - the outrageous fun-loving Kit Butler who, although continually pulling stunts seemingly to gain attention, is at heart a very honorable, caring man who has loads of pain inside his soul.

Having served in the military as a type of spy, he has been banished from the family home after fighting with his elder brother, who had the unmitigated gall to die while Kit was fighting in the war before Kit had the opportunity to make things right. Now, Kit is the heir to the earldom and is being beckoned home at long last to celebrate his grandmother's birthday. But, there is one demand/command/request being placed upon Kit. His father and the Duke of Bewcastle have made arrangements for Kit to become betrothed to the duke's sister, Freya.

Kit decides he will choose his own wife, thank you very much - Father! His friends suggest the lovely ice queen who was "left-at-the-altar" by her cousin and the man she was formerly betrothed to - none other than Miss Lauren Edgeworth to whom we were first introduced in One Night for Love (Bedwyn Saga) and Kit and his friends agree to wager regarding whether or not Lauren will accept his offer. But, once Kit becomes acquainted with Lauren and she becomes a "real" person to him, he finds himself confessing all to her. Much to his surprise, Lauren tells him she will be his fake fiancee for a few weeks which will give him time to find a real fiancee. She wants only one thing. She wants a "summer to remember" whereby Kit will give her some adventures. She's is as stiff as a starched apron and any other gentleman might find her request nearly impossible to fulfill. For example, when he tries to get her to go swimming or climb a tree or other simple types of things, she resists but eventually does participate.

In time, their relationship turns into something very sweet and although I didn't care for Lauren's personality previous to this book, I couldn't help but admire her as she dealt with people, including the intimidating Bedwyn family. She was a peacemaker and was never afraid to wade into deep waters if it meant helping those in her sphere come into a better relationship with one another or help them resolve past issues in their lives.

A very sweet relationship. I loved Kit Butler from the get go and eventually I also began to see great value in Lauren.
Wow! Loved this book. I obviously didn't like Lauren from her role in One Night for Love (where she was jilted at the altar when Neville's supposedly dead wife came back to life) and also because of Freyia in Slightly Scandalous (she was the perfect bride Kit brought home when he was supposed to marry Freyia). But turns out she is such an adorable Heroine. A true lady, a true companion and the best match for our beloved Christopher (Kit).

The Bedwyn brothers are shown quite arrogant and full os schemes, but as I've already read the whole saga I could understand their point of view.

I love how Lauren, and Freyia, and Kit, and even Rannulf are shown in this books as all real people are, not totally good or bad. They have depths that make the stories so very wonderful.

This story takes off right after the happily ever after between Lily and Neville Wyatt Earl of Kilbourne, in the book One Night For Love. The Honorable Miss Lauren Edgeworth is the woman left heartbroken by Neville whom she loved since she was a young girl. Lauren and Neville were supposed to marry but couldn't due to unforeseen events in Neville's life. Lauren is broken hearted and decides she would never marry.

I didn't leave my family and go away to boarding school. But I related to this story as an African American girl who bussed to an all white high school a few miles away from my lower income, all-black neighborhood. I suspect children who go to their zoned schools I their own neighborhoods where they are in the minority will also relate. Because this is not about going away to school. It's about coming of age as a fish out of water in a sea of whiteness. I love that Ant never let go of who he was but also was smart enough to be open to changes in his vantage point. The writing is crisp and sounds like it comes from the 15 yo protagonist that is Ant who endures the bumps and hard kicks of growing up a young black boy in America. Entertaining and illuminating.

My son who is "the black boy at the white school". He really enjoyed this book and could identify with some situations.
The book was well written and I enjoyed it. Most people have no clue how scary growing up in the hood can be. Anthony found a way out.
I initially bought this book for my 11yr old son who attends a private school and often expresses feelings of not fitting in anywhere. Once I read the 1st few pages I realized it wasnt a book he could grasp right away but I myself couldn't put it down. The book touches real world situations and will be relatable to anyone who may have made changes in their lives, whether positive or negative, deliberate or by accident. It can be inspiring to the young adult who feels they are different from everyone. I would recommend this book for ages of 14 and up. Powerful read.
I was pleased with the story, but I was displeased with the ending, Ant/Tony can be a character like Henry Rawlings, Walter Mosley fans will understand,even though fictional; I need to know what happened to him! Think about it Brian F Walker!
I read this book written by a long lost classmate of my brother's. I was interested in the author's point of view but it was not stimulating enough to recommend to a broad audience. I enjoyed some parts more than others.

This is the summer reading assignment at the school where I work, and I'm looking forward to hearing my students' reactions in September. Personally, I found the book to be a thought-provoking page-turner. The writing is accessible and has a strong voice, and the characters are sympathetic. I hope there's a sequel so that some of the characters can be developed even further. I hear from a lot of young people that their favorite genre is "realistic fiction," and this book seems to fit that bill. I bought the book for but actually wish I'd bought a paper copy so I could loan it out more readily.
We met the author, Brian at Scaramouche in Tortola before we sailed to Anegada. I downloaded his book from so that I could discuss it with him when we got back on Saturday. Good read and a great discussion.

Black Boy White School is a coming of age novel about a young man who tries to make something of himself and soon finds himself belonging in neither place--he doesn't fit in where he is and has changed too much to fit in where he came from. It's a great YA novel for your kids to read on summer vacation.

I found it much different than other coming of age novels--To Kill a Mockingbird, Sounder, Tom Sawyer, Where the Red Fern Grows, I know Why the Caged Bird Sings, etc--in that I could relate to Ant, the main character. But like I told Brian, it's probably because I read the other ones in school and read this one as an adult.

There is some foul language, so consider yourself warned if you are concerned about such matters. Considering the character and setting, it was appropriate.

If you're thinking of getting this and have already read other books in the series, you'll know what to expect. I like how the collections of short stories provide more background on "minor" characters in some of the novels. I like how the music listed provides more ideas for my iPod.

Yes, it's an anthology, but it's a well done one with known characters. I enjoyed it.
Grantville Gazette V is the fifth (doh!) edition of the ongoing series of short stories related to the 1632 set of books by Eric Flint (and co-workers). If you like the 1632 set of stories, then this volume will not disappoint. If you have not read any of them yet, I would not suggest you start here.
This collection of short stories (along with those volumes preceding this one, and the electronically available versions of the Gazette) present an ever-deepening picture of what happens when you place a bunch of West Virginians into the 30 years war in Europe. The original concept for this series (in the book 1632) was excellent, but all the additional stuff developed in the gazette and other novels that have grown from it create a world that is complex, intriguing, growing, and endearing.
So, not the place to start your foray into the 1632 opus magnus, but if you have been there already, and enjoy it, this volume will add to your enjoyment.

This is a very engaging book. The story is cleverly written and draws you in. The author gives everyone a better understanding of how numbers are related and makes you want to learn more. He entices you into trying to solve his puzzles. This book is for everyone, students and adults alike.

I am nine years old and love reading and math. This book has just made it easier for me to enjoy both of them together. My favorite math reference in this book is the perfect number reference. The perfect number is different from all the other numbers because they are special in their own way. The story builds slowly at first but then takes off and I couldn't tear myself away from the book. This is a great book for adults and even young readers. My mom is reading it too and is very excited when she talks about it. We bought a copy for my uncle too.

I am a teacher and I use this book to integrate reading in my math class. The students love this book and it was a great pick for math fiction in middle grades.
It was a different read. At times I found it was sort of rambling and I got lost with the story.
This was a fun book of math, patterns, numbers, school, and adventure. The first half did feel a little pointless, but it was still fun. As a teacher, I really enjoyed the assignments - though I would like to understand what the Level writing assignments are.

The second half of the book had a lot of errors in the version. I can only assume they aren't there in the hard copy.

As someone else mentioned, the QR codes linked to the same site and the assignments didn't make sense in the context of the book.

Matt is a math whiz, and is taking Advanced Calc as a senior. He discovers some strange electronic device in the boy's bathroom one day and gets together a group of 5 other friends (because 6 is a nice circular number) to crack the initial code and all those that follow. I learned a few things about math that gave me new perspectives on things. I hope to remember them during the school year!

Matt nearly cracks everything, and his friend/group member Kelsie is the only one who goes with him into the..alternate universe? That's where the actual adventure begins.

Some of it was quite funny, including the final note at the end.

Semi-true story of a teenager who gets addicted to meth, written in poetry by her mother. Beautifully written, but it loses steam near the end and sort of fizzles out. There are two more books in the series, so I suppose this wasn't meant to be the true ending. Still, the momentum just bottomed out at the end, almost as if the writer gave up or was short on time and had to just toss something together, or was just too darn tired to keep up the fiction any longer. As she says in the afterword, her daughter was incarcerated in prison by the time this first book was written, so I think the mother/author just wanted to be done with it and move on by then. I can't really say more without discussing the specific plot line and ruining it for you.

This book was recommended by my son's high school for summer reading. I finally downloaded the book to my for something to read while on vacation. I was completely hooked, no pun considering the book is about addiction. I told my sister about it and when she was loading it, she learned it was a trilogy. I finished the book while traveling to vacation and am near finishing the second book Glass while traveling home from vacation. My sister just sent me an email that she is on the 2nd book already and has the same "addiction" to reading it.

Great character development. Great description of the highs and lows of her doing the drugs. And great show of how it impacts the family. I would definitely recommend this book.
Using a poetry like format is an interesting way to present the chaos caused by Kristina's foray into drugs. While I really enjoyed that format I did, on occassion find it slightly harder to read. A difficult topic but important for teens to see in an unglamorized light!
Amazing. Ellen Hopkins brings it again with another great story. Glass has so many scenes where you just want to reach out to the main character and help her realize she's heading in the wrong direction. Sad, frightening, eye opening. It's interesting to see a good kid go bad real quick. I think this helped me be much more patient with the teens im surrounded with and try to help. Being a non drug user, I often though people basically had a bad life and went the wrong way but its eye opening to see a good kid with a seemingly good life go bad real quick. Sad. Great book. Enjoyed the read.
I have had this book in my wish list for a while and on a whim I decided to get it. It did not disappoint. It continued the story started in Ellen Hopkins' Crank. I really enjoy her style of writing, not only form but shape as well. Just about every page has words in some wacky arrangement, and in some pages you will find a "hidden" passage. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, although I would advise you to read Crank first and keep Urban Dictionary handy if you are unfamiliar with terms related to drugs, specifically meth (I lived a very sheltered life so I was looking up words from the book quite frequently.)
Conclusion Loved the book, same style and characters from the first book, Crank, had to look up some words b/c I'm not familiar with slang words for drugs.
This is by far one of my favorite authors, and this book doesn't disappoint! I read this book in one sitting, that's how good it is... I love how she chose to write this series in free verse. I was a little skeptical at first thinking that it wouldn't flow very well as a story because of this choice but boy was I ever wrong! This story will catch your attention from the very first page and reel you in.
I remember all my friends reading these books in high school, but I didn't want to. I didn't care for the content or style....and I'm glad I didn't read it then. I don't think I would have appreciated the story as much at 14 or 15 as I do now. I had to force myself to put it down to do other things.
Every have a book that you really enjoyed but had a hard time figuring out why? Glass was like that for me at first. As I continued to read, I kept rolling my eyes at the main character Kristina as she continues to destroy her life. I despise her mother and step father for being in denial as long as they were. I do not care for her friends when they can just abandon her as quickly as change their shirt.

What makes the story even more tragic is how she gives up her own baby for the meth. You would think that would motivate her to do better and be better. If anything, she uses the baby as an excuse. The meth helps her lose the baby fat because she does not eat, and it helps her escape the stress of being a mother.

So why do I like this story so much if I find the characters so despicable? Well, first off it is a very compelling story. I am willing to admit that I started to feel sorry for Kristina as her world came crashing down. She lost ties with all her family because of her own choices but when I saw how it was affecting her I still hoped for something good to happen, but it never did.

What really enthralls me is Hopkins' style. I love reading this story in prose. She even gets more creative in this one by meshing up her prose into different shapes reflecting the situation she is telling. These books are deceptively short yet a lot more happens than most stories.
I would definitely recommend continuing this series if you enjoyed Crank. It is a terrifying yet awe-inspiring tale of what continues to happen with meth addicts and the continuing dangers of addiction. If Crank and Glass do not give you pause about drug use, nothing will.
Semi-true story of a teenager who gets addicted to meth, written in poetry by her mother. Beautifully written, but it loses steam near the end and sort of fizzles out. There are two more books in the series, so I suppose this wasn't meant to be the true ending. Still, the momentum just bottomed out at the end, almost as if the writer gave up or was short on time and had to just toss something together, or was just too darn tired to keep up the fiction any longer. As she says in the afterword, her daughter was incarcerated in prison by the time this first book was written, so I think the mother/author just wanted to be done with it and move on by then. I can't really say more without discussing the specific plot line and ruining it for you.

Great cyberpunk sort of tongue in cheek freakshow ultraviolent book. It's really short, but packed with bizarre details and asides, the story flies off in different directions, but somehow is still really easy to follow and read through. Sometimes the story just stops dead for a bizarre ramble or aside about ridiculous moments in the history of the universe of this storyline and the city of Beerlight. Sometimes the story itself is the bizarre ramble.

Ultimately though this book was fun as hell to read. One of my favorite goofy fun violent stories.

I laughed out loud through a good portion of this book. It's a thoroughly engrossing story of a bank robbery gone bad as the thieves bounce around in time trying to find a way out. Aylett has a succinct, perfect way of describing action that immediately ellicits some kind of mental picture. This book reads like Tarantino writing a sequel to the Matrix, filled with big guns, lots of violence, funny dialogue, all in a satiric dystopian future. It reads quickly and is a must for sci-fi fans, even those, like me, that are not hardcore in the genre. I can't recommend this highly enough.
Aylett is beyond the help of modern mental health treatment. Classifying this book is likewise beyond the existing definitions of literary genres.

If you are easily shocked - don't even think of touching it much less reading it (it might rub off).
If you can't stand blood & gore - hide your eyes and plug your ears.
If you like a tidy beginning, middle and end in your reading - try Dickens instead.

If you're as crazy as I am - READ THIS BOOK (and hope for a sequel). Why not 5 stars, then? It isn't perfect, but it is fun, funny & well worth reading.
Self-consciously clever, crazy original, and exploding with style, Slaughtermatic is an intense read that kept me grinning throughout; at least, when I wasn't rubbing my poor dumb head - I'm not ashamed to admit that I would have enjoyed this book even more if I had been smarter and/or more educated. It's filled with rapid-fire metaphors and concepts that can get to be pretty overwhelming if you're not blessed with a high IQ and a decent attention span, but the struggle is worth it because it's a damn good read. The ideas are presented with such copious style that it's a joy to read each page. Aylett seems to put as much thought into most sentences as a lesser author would put into an entire novel.

The characters, although barely necessary in a book so brimming with style as this, are interesting, and the dialog is always a treat to read - just don't expect anything resembling real-life exchanges. The plot, also only semi-crucial, is occasionally meandering but ultimately satisfying. But again, the real star here is the writing itself, and if you can enjoy writing for writing, you'll love this book.
Written very stylistically, like a faster paced mix of Burroughs and Stephenson. Hilareous black comedy in this city of Beerlight where crime is art but it may or may not be virtual reality.

The cop Blince is a character no doubt, and the time travel wackiness of Dante one and Two is gripping. But there is just so much going on in these short 150 pages that it is very difficult to follow what's going on. I guess that's the cyberpunk syle, but this takes it a bit far. Information overload to the tenth degree here.

I'm giving it three stars even though Slaughtermatic is an incredible read. I know its well written, it is just unfortunate that I'm not too sure what the book is about. I'll have to try and read it a second time and maybe my opinion will change.

Mr. Aylett, you're just too hip for your own good.
I enjoyed reading this short book, but afterwards I had that guilty feeling I used to get after seeing a gory B movie.... It was fun, but I don't really want to admit to anyone that I enjoyed it.The story itself is a bit confusing and choppy, but there is enough entertainment on each page to keep you reading.

As a matter of fact, this book contains some of the best sentences ever written. Here's a couple of my personal fav's...

"He had a big soul which he sold by the hour."

"Father died in a voting accident."

...and my personal favorite sentence in the whole book...

"A convict in transit convinced the cop to whom he was handcuffed that the cop was the guiltier man, at which the cop shot him and escaped."

That one had me laughing for hours.
It's little jewels like this that kept me reading.
This has got to be one of the cleverest science fiction/dystopian/comic texts I've read since...well, I'm not quite sure...but it was probably something by Baudrillard. This novel was laugh out loud funny at times, especially Cubit's frantic race from the law that mirror's (almost exactly) his pre-flight, TV car chace-influenced imaginings. A fast-paced and humorous read for fans of postmodern critical theory, cyberpunk, or straight-forward slapstick comedy. Think William Gibson as re-written by Douglas Addams and filmed by the Cohen Brothers and you'll start to get an idea of what this wacky and wonderful text is like.
Based on the reviews I thought this would be a fun sort of book and worth a bit of time reading. I was, unfortunately, gravely disappointed. It reads like Douglas Adams on acid, only not quite as coherent. The other book that jumps to mind is sections of the Illuminatus Trilogy, without the conspiracy.
Overall, I just didn't see the point. Neat ideas, I guess, funny in a strange sort of way, but not enough of either or a sensible storyline or plot or concept behind it to make it worth struggling through to find the interesting parts.
I suspect I'm just a bit too linear to like this. Which isn't to say it's bad, I just don't like it.

As a fan of MacColls music I'm very happy to see that she warrants a biography. Hopefully the presense of such a book will continue to elevate her status in the music world. However, this book is hardly about the the music. It does cover, in sometimes too much detail, her childhood, her early family life and Cuba. There are sections on her marriage to Steve Lillywhite and a bit about her career at Stiff Records. But beyond that the book lacks any sense of Kirsty's diverse musical influences. In fact, acts that clearly influenced MacColl like Twinkle, the Caravells, Sandy Denny etc are not mentioned at all. Sadly, there are enticing quotes about her love for records that are never pursued. For the most part this book is written like a CNN report - it just feels very cold. In parts it is downright silly - a full few pages are devoted to the fact that like Kirsty Che Gueavar had asthma! Protacted sections on the MacColl's visits to Poland go nowhere. I was left feeling like the book was forced or worse that it's main goal is to keep the cases about her death in the public eye (though to be fair the author presents an unbiased view of the case). Clearly Kirsty's family had significant involvement in this book but I wonder why they left out so many of the musical elements of her life? It left me wondering if any of them knew Kirty's music at all. And the photos also hardly show a woman who had been a significant force in pop music. I would recommend the book to any Kirsty MacColl fan but I do so with the caution that you'll not learn much more about her music than you'll find on the CDs. Though that may not be a bad thing it is ashame that an effort to document her life a pop artist has now passed.

Finally a comprehensive and authorised biography of the late Kirsty MacColl. It is clear that this book has been written with the co operation of MacColls family. This is evident from the inclusion of many personal photographs (in color) and family anecdotes. Of particluar interest are the early chapters outlining MacColls childhood and formative years which are intriguing as little has been previously documented.The book also focus's on MacColls diverse career, over a twenty year period, from early stagefright to prolific songwriting,recording and performing. It is a fascinating read and a respectful testament to the life and career of a greatly missed artist

I am honestly extremely confused by this book and struggled with how many stars to give it. I wish there was a way to give different stars for different aspects!

I would definitely give the writing a 5! With so many terribly-written books in this genre now, it’s refreshing to see an author who can write WELL...not only in the grammatical sense, but she’s also great at suspense, sexual tension, and getting her readers to feel emotionally involved with the book.

The content is where I struggle... I’m not a prude by any means (I downloaded this book because I was already familiar with Ella Frank), but I just couldn’t quite connect with the high school student/teacher thing. I do understand the nuances of the situation (Addy was “legally” adult, she pursued her teacher and not the other way around, that they both accepted their own faults in the scenario, etc). And look, I had a major crush on a high school teacher who was only 5 years older than I was as a high school senior... but aside from some flirting, I never acted on it and neither did he. As it should be. I think maybe it’s my Mom Nature coming through... it just hurt my heart thinking about my daughter being viewed by a teacher the way Grayson views his student. And then poor Addison... she (understandably) suffers from a combination of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD. She is an abused, damaged, traumatized CHILD (I don’t care if she’s 18) who selfishly pushes herself onto a grown 32-year-old man, her superior, knowing how it could affect his life and all the while, he is just unable to control himself?? They fall in love, which is another thing I struggle with, because they basically just have physical attraction and mutual “need” of the other to save them. Where, exactly, did the love form? I also had strong mixed feelings about the ending... I wasn’t sure if I thought them winding up together was ok or not.

I’m a total sucker for a forbidden, tormented love story, but overall, this just left me feeling... sad. Really, really sad. And I came away with a very strong sense of “For the love of all that is holy, PLEASE do not let my daughter come across a book like this if she has a crush on a teacher”!

I don’t know... so, so conflicted here. I wanted to love it and I think I could have, if some details had been just slightly different. I’m honestly surprised there aren’t more conflicted reviews!!!

I’m not sure how to even write this review, my head was all over the place from the very beginning to the very end. Ella has stepped up her game big time with this book! It was total perfection. So beautifully done, my emotions weren’t in check at all! If this woman ever stops writing it would be a huge injustice to us all. As with every book that Ella writes, she takes you on a journey that you never presume to know the outcome of. Isn’t that wonderful? Nothing is black and white with this book and I swear I needed a stuffed animal, tums to help me cope. This is by far the best book I’ve read this year, and I say that with 100% certainty. My advice If you haven’t read an Ella Frank book before, DO IT NOW and start with this!

“I only have me to think of now. Me in this place, with nothing but time. Time to remember or, as they are all hoping. Time to forget.”

Addison is just beginning her senior year in High School and she is by no means an innocent little High School girl, but she’s also not a “bad girl” if that makes any sense. This girl has confidence that shoots through the roof, and the looks to back it up but she’s far from perfect and has some pretty heavy stuff on her shoulders. Everybody knows who she is, and what she’s gone through and all of this plays throughout the book. Addison seems to be your perfectly put together High School girl, but I can guarantee that is not the case. I truly loved Addison and had to put myself in her shoes to fully encapsulate her story in my brain, and after I did that I was done for, committed and knew I wouldn’t see the light of day until I read “The End.”

“My ending, staring right at me from the very beginning.”

The bell rings, Addison is late for class with him Mr. McKendrick. She doesn’t even know what has hit her, but I believe it’s that pure shrill type of vibrancy that she has on the outside, now consuming her on the inside. Not even Addison knows how to react right away, but her body does and she slowly and not so meekly begins her seduction of her hot new teacher. She has one goal and it’s to have Mr. McKendrick. Ella Frank is great at the tease, and the way these two go back and forth is the best kind. Everything from Mr. M’s snarky stubborn replies to Addison’s relentless pursuit is done perfectly.

“I wondered at that moment what I’d done to deserve this. Surely, this was some kind of f*%*%d-up karma because the girl in front of me had the face of a woman that would bring men to their knees. Men just like me.”

This story is told behind the eyes of both Addison and Mr. M, as well as it plays out in the past and present tense which I found extremely necessary in order to understand this book completely. I loved being able to see the true insecurities that belonged to Addison, and how she went through the shifting vulnerabilities that plagued her and made her character truly believable. Being in Mr. M’s head had a totally different but equally important role, his POV was more of a clear vision into how he wanted to deal with this new temptation, and how he struggled against his morality and judgment. I know some people feel weird about student/teacher stuff, but in this story it just didn’t matter to me. He was truly a good man and I felt like he always thought about Addison first. Addison was slightly more reckless in her taming of temptation, and I love that crazy girl!

So as these two go through this little game of attraction and lust, when the good stuff happens it’s REALLY good, like crazy hot. And my anxiety didn’t stop when they finally hook up, in fact it got worse! Because this little forbidden romance isn’t the only thing happening while you’re reading this book! The stuff with the past and the present include a character named Doc who I can’t tell you about, there’s little trinket stuff that I can’t tell you about, there’s places and things and twist and turns and ahhhhhhhhh! It’s so freaking crazy good! And on top of all of that you’re just scared the whole time of them getting caught, not knowing if what they have is something that will last, or if they have to give it up for the sake of what’s “right and wrong” or if someone or something will take it from them, PLUS all of that other stuff I mentioned before! You honestly are driving blind through this book, and have no clue what happens until it actually happens, isn’t that awesome?

My heart was all tied up for the last 20% of this book and I’m not sure how many times I held my breath but it was A LOT. I will say this, there are some really cool and insightful references in this book with some other really cool things that you just don’t see every day in every book. It was truly beautifully done, and obviously Ella did some amazing research. Couple that with her insane creativity and BAM—perfect book. I cried my eyes out and when I finally did reach “The End” I was a total and complete sobbing mess for way more than one reason. This book won me over a thousand trillion percent and I would suggest it to ANYBODY. Even if you don’t typically like student/teacher just try it, the story goes so far beyond that, I promise. I just didn’t want it to end, I need it to go on forever and ever.

Pleasantly Surprised

At first I didn't like Addison. I thought she was another rich girl causing trouble just to bring attention to herself. The first chapter was of her screwing a guy in the parking lot of her high school. It felt like she didn't care about anyone's feelings but her own. If she wanted something or someone she would just go get it damn the consequences.
When she first walked into her history class late. She laid her eyes on her teacher Grayson McKendrick and decided she wanted him.
As time goes on in the story you will find Addison in a different light. You find she covers up her pain through counting or tapping 1, 2, 3 from a clock. Tick, tick, tock will be ever present in this story. The only time it is quiet down is when she is with her teacher Grayson. Addison has a lot to deal with in her life. How the story was told seemed annoying at first but I got what the build up is to. They tell the story by switching it from the past to present in almost every situation to make you see how every action has a cause and affect. I really got into the story about 50% in and couldn't put it down. I wanted to know what was going to happen next. The ending left you wondering about the future and if it should have just ended the way it did. I wanted to know more. But a good story does that, leave you wanting more.
