Houston, TX (PRWEB) April 30, 2012

What is a Groom’s cake? Just ask a Southerner from the United States to hear about the “must have” of the Southern wedding. “After a century of transformation, the Groom’s cake of today expresses the personality of the Groom and is now making its way around weddings beyond the South,” explained Bobby Jucker, fifth generation baker and co-owner of Three Brothers Bakery in Houston, TX.

The inclusion of the Groom’s Cake during the bridal celebration began around mid-19th century in Britain and somehow appeared in the Southern United States during the early 1900s becoming a Southern tradition according to foodtimeline.org . A year ago Prince William and his bride, Kate Middleton, during their nuptial celebration shared a Groom’s cake made of chocolate and tea biscuits enjoyed from his youth.

“In the 1960s I first was asked for a Groom’s cake,” said Sigmund Jucker, one of the founders of Three Brothers Bakery. “It was a simple cake matching the height of the wedding cake tier and always a chocolate cake, chocolate butter cream icing and filling costing $ 75 for 200 servings” continued the senior Jucker.

Once Sigmund Jucker learned about the Groom’s cake, Jucker said with a smile “I always suggested a Groom’s cake.” What he did not realize was how he perpetuated the tradition.

Superstition had it if a single girl slept with a slice of Groom’s cake slipped under her pillow, she would dream of her future groom. Janice Jucker, wife of Bobby Jucker, remembers during the 1960s her mother coming home with a slice of cake, putting it under her pillow several times.

In the 1970s, Bobby Jucker, explained “the Groom’s cake became a bit more elaborate – still chocolate adding fresh fruit, chocolate shavings and at times even multi-tiered yet never outshining the wedding cake.

In the 1980s the Groom’s personality began appearing with the 2D cutouts and 3D cakes of mainly “manly” subjects, such as sports, autos and hunting to name a few.

Fondant came on the scene in the late 1980s. The new decorating canvas made some of the impossible possible. Three Brothers Bakery began being known for their large 3D confections, even making an Astrodome cake celebrating the stadium’s 20th anniversary. “I think the 3D Groom’s cake trend began with the movie “Steel Magnolias” and the “bleeding” armadillo Groom’s cake. Today, twenty years later, couples come in asking for a “bleeding armadillo” made with red velvet cake and ask if we have ever heard of it,” chuckled Jucker.

The 1990s followed suit with more bakers venturing out into the world of the 3D cake. Before the baking shows, in 2006, Three Brothers Bakery and Jucker made their first “Extreme Cake,” – an 8.5 foot oil derrick shooting 3.5 feet of fire. “Today we can do anything,” said Jucker.

“Each cake comes with a story,” said Jucker and continued with a favorite, “in 2010 a Groom was going to have to get rid of a ‘stuffed’ wild turkey he had hunted if he wanted to marry the Bride. So as a joke the Bride’s family ordered a life size wild turkey cake.”

The Groom’s cakes of Sigmund Jucker’s day ran about $ .37/slice while today begin at $ 1.50/slice for the simplest. Should you want the “wild turkey” of cakes it is all custom work to be quoted only after detailed design appointments.

A century after the Groom’s cake arrived in the South approximately 80% of Jucker’s weddings include some form of a Groom’s cake and hears from other bakers they are gaining favor throughout the U.S. “Over 50% of all cake consultations include the Groom,” said the younger Jucker, for “the Groom’s cake allows the Groom to share his personality and preferences.” Perhaps a year ago Prince William was like all Groom’s wanting to put a piece of his personal self into the celebration and, in so doing, he gave us the renaissance of the Groom’s cake.

Carson City, NV (PRWEB) August 27, 2013

With over 12.9 million single parent families in the United States alone, OnlineParentingPrograms.com has pledged to protect children, effective parenting strategies, and families-in-transition by posting an online Parenting Pledge on Facebook. The pledge is open to all persons who believe in the struggle to raise children successfully in an era of co-parented households. Their campaign asks participants to establish and share their faith in healthy co-parenting principles during an era of obvious and urgent family crisis, co-parented households, and court mandated parenting courses. By taking the pledge, parents are supporting families and co-parenting in their community and across the globe. Participants receive a printable certificate certifying they will support the concept of parenting and the wellbeing of children along with Rules for Co-Parenting, listing do’s and don’ts for co-parents.

OnlineParentingPrograms.com in partnership with Family Education Resource Center and Extended Learning Center, reached out to over 3000 parents nationwide this week in an effort to bring awareness to the need to support parenting, co-parenting and family. They are urging other organizations to post the Parenting Pledge as a way to support families in their community and across the globe.

OnlineParentingPrograms.com is dedicated to educating families in transition, working with experts throughout the United States to provide clients with resources for educating and raising children between multiple homes. The organization has worked with over 600 family courts across the country, finding that nearly one third of parents taking court-mandated co-parenting programs are parents that have never been married.

“OnlineParentingPrograms.com has made a clear commitment to families in transition. We know that we have the power to make the change, and we now have a golden opportunity to provide a venue to work together and bring about awareness and accountability,” said Lori LaVigne, Director of Educational Outreach for OnlineParentingPrograms.com. “It is an honor and an obligation that we must face head on,” said LaVigne. “We are excited to see the impact and change and look forward to developing other programs that will create awareness on a global level. Start building a bigger personal Bank? Click For More Income Now

Reno, Nevada (PRWEB) June 18, 2015

Toll Brothers, the nation’s leading builder of luxury homes, announces the June 20th grand opening of its first-ever active adult community west of Colorado. Regency at Damonte Ranch in Reno, Nevada will deliver the resort-style amenities and sought-after lifestyle for which Toll Brothers is recognized. Exceeding expectations since its April 2015 soft opening, the staff-gated community offers three collections, including nine professionally decorated model homes. Once completed, the community will consist of 505 low-maintenance homes which include front yard landscaping, most with mountain views. Luxury homes designed for those age 55 and better are priced from the mid-$ 300,000s.

Recognized on three separate occasions as Builder of the Year, Toll Brothers is successfully introducing three single-story home collections ranging from 1,668 sq. ft. to 2,398 sq. ft. The future community clubhouse at Regency at Damonte Ranch, with over 18,000 sq. ft. of indoor recreation, will also include an indoor pool, spa, billiards/game room, weight and cardio room, aerobics and fitness center, formal lounge, and more. Pickleball and bocce courts, a tennis court, and easy access to surrounding bike and walking paths are also offered.

Residency at Regency includes an on-site lifestyle director who plans and coordinates year-round social activities. Such events will range from Friday night cocktail parties, card tournaments and golf outings to dinner clubs, daytrip excursions, continuous learning, and philanthropic pursuits.

Explains Toll Brothers’ Group President Gary Mayo, “As we look to expand the Toll Brothers Active Living brand in the western United States, our primary goal is to provide a home buying experience unlike any other active-adult community. Our buyers will have the benefit of not having to sacrifice quality of life, location, or the amenities they desire as they transition to the lifestyle they want.”

Mayo adds, “Toll Brothers’ acclaimed architecture remains a focus and makes possible sought-after indoor/outdoor living advantages. While our Active Adult communities deliver a vast array of amenities and activities, our residents’ personal living environments remain central to our efforts.”

According to the 2015 Northern Nevada Housing Outlook, Nevada’s improving economy and position as the sixth fastest growing population in 2014 have bolstered Toll Brothers’ introduction of Regency at Damonte Ranch, simultaneously addressing the ever-increasing demands among the most powerful consumers in the marketplace. As the last of the baby boomers turned 50 in 2014, over 100 million adults now influence the size, wealth and spending in the United States. Whereas, Nevada’s 65 and over population experienced the second largest increase of 47.9% between 1999-2009, and is projected to increase an additional 18.6% in 2030. **

Beyond the range of amenities at Regency at Damonte Ranch is its proximity to downtown Reno with its fine dining, world-class entertainment, and gaming. Hiking or skiing at nearby Mount Rose, fishing, sailing, and boating at Pyramid Lake and Lake Tahoe are within a 30-minute drive. Regency at Damonte Ranch is convenient to Interstate 580, and is less than 15 minutes from Interstate 80, the Amtrak station, and the Reno International Airport.

Quinton, Birmingham (PRWEB UK) 21 February 2015

Waterside Windows, a uPVC windows and doors manufacturer and installation specialist from Birmingham, were pleased to feature on a recent episode of ITV’s Bad Builders – Bang To Rights. The programme is fronted by Dominic Littlewood, who strives to confront bad builders and to help homeowners whose houses have been left in a state of disrepair by incompetent tradesmen. The episode was first aired on 10 February 2015.

Bob Sagoo, Managing Director of Waterside Windows, was contacted by the producers of Bad Builders – Bang To Rights, as they were assisting a single parent from Quinton, Birmingham whose home had been left in a dangerous position by a previous builder. The builder had walked out of the job after leaving the house with unsecured brickwork, unfinished roofing, incorrectly installed plumbing and unsafe foundations for the new extension. With a three year old son, the homeowner had made the decision to temporarily move out of her home until it was made safe.

As part of the project, Bob was asked to manufacture and install three uPVC windows throughout the house within a 72 hour period. Even with such a tight timeframe, Bob and his uPVC windows installation team were able to supply and fit the required windows to help to create the ideal home for the homeowner and her son. Bob said:

“We were pleased to be asked to become involved with this exciting and challenging project within our local community. The Waterside Windows team thrive to create a high level of service for all of our customers, and we feel proud that we have helped to create a safe and stylish home for a young family. We hope we have restored the homeowner’s faith in local tradesmen.”

Waterside Windows have been manufacturing and installing A and C rated energy efficient uPVC windows in properties across Birmingham and beyond since 1995. To find out more about their service or their involvement with the Bad Builders – Bang To Rights programme, feel free to visit the Waterside Windows website.

You need additional income? Click For More Income Now
