Singer posts photo of Facebook to prove Twitter talk is false

Jon Bon Jovi dead? Not quite, as this Facebook photo clearly shows.

Jon Bon Jovi wants everyone to know that reports of his demise are greatly exaggerated.

A random blog post claiming the New Jersey singer suffered from cardiac arrest ignited a fire on Twitter Monday.

To assure fans he was perfectly okay, the 49-year-old rocker posted a photo of himself on Facebook holding a hand-written sign stating, "Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey."

The date, Dec. 19, 2011, along with the time was also included.

"Rest assured that Jon is alive and well!" a post that accompanied the photo declared.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the false story, first posted on a WordPress blog called, "dailynewbloginternational," seemed to take text from one of their stories about Michael Jackson's 2009 death.

Social media has led to a rash of fake celebrity death stories.

Bill Cosby was hounded repeatedly by claims that he died. He eventually took to Twitter and even called in to CNN to plead that it stop, after one report reached his daughter and caused a panic.

Bill Cosby has also fallen victim to fake Internet claims that he was dead.

"People are not amused by this," Cosby said in August 2010.

Other celebrities who weren't dead yet, despite Internet claims, include Lady Gaga, Justin Beiber, Eddie Murphy, Morgan Freeman, Harrison Ford and Jeff Goldblum.

ROTUND RAP legend Heavy D died Tuesday after collapsing in his California home. He was 44.

The Westchester County-raised entertainer was taken by ambulance to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles about 11:25 a.m. and died 90 minutes later, cops told the Daily News.

Heavy D was conscious and talking when officers responded to a 911 call from his Beverly Hills condo, said Lt. Mark Rosen of the Beverly Hills Police Department.

IN MEMORIAM: STARS WHO LEFT US TOO SOON

Rosen said the portly rapper, whose real name was Dwight Arrington Myers, was having difficulty breathing as paramedics rushed him to the hospital.

The performer had just returned from Europe and was battling pneumonia, KTLA news in Los Angeles reported.

Rosen said Heavy D had come home from a shopping trip Tuesday and began laboring for breath as he walked into his condo building.

“He collapsed in an exterior hallway,” Rosen said. “There doesn’t appear to be any foul play. We believe it was medically related.”

The actual cause of death is pending an autopsy.

Born in Jamaica and raised in Mount Vernon, Heavy D rose to stardom in the 1990s as the frontman for Heavy D & the Boys.

Along with band mates G-Whiz, Trouble T. Roy and Eddie F., he made hip-hop history with hit songs like “Now That We Found Love” and “Nuttin But Love.” They also performed the theme song for the 1990s comedy TV series “In Living Color.”

Heavy D last performed in October at the BET Awards.

In recent years, he had ventured into acting, scoring small movie roles, including one in the 1999 film “The Cider House Rules.”

He won a cameo role as a security guard in the just-released film “Tower Heist,” starring Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller.

“I’m definitely saddened by the loss of Heavy. He was a really good person,” said Damon Williams, vice president of programming for Music Choice, the multi-platform video and music network.

With catchy dance tunes that included R&B riffs, Heavy D was one of the first rappers to cross over to mainstream popularity, Damon Williams" href="http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Damon+Williams" >Williams said.

“But I don’t think he ever lost his credibility with the hard-core rap audience,” said Williams.

Other friends took to Twitter to express condolences.

“I am deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Heavy D. A longtime friend and a beautiful person,” wrote Russell Simmons.

LL Cool J tweeted, “May GOD embrace the soul of Heavy D and Bless his family. I respected you Heavy and I always will.”

Back in 2005, Jobs revealed some of his thoughts on death in a heartfelt commencement address at Stanford University, telling students: "Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose."

Harold Camping warns world's end begins May 21st

If you believe a fringe Christian radio group, then you’ve got a little more than 24 hours to either party it up, or repent for your sins. Because according to the “Family Radio” network, 6 p.m. Saturday will be when the “rapture” begins and the end of days begins.

Tthe Family Radio network’s founder, 89-year-old Harold Camping, said Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. will be when the rapture of the church takes place.
The rapture of the church is a relatively new idea in the realm of Christianity. It refers to the time when Christians believe that Jesus will take the faithful to heaven ahead of the calamity and destruction that lies ahead in the tribulations from the book of Revelation.

It’s drawn from passages in the bible including I Thessalonians 4:17 which states, “After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”

This would follow Jesus raising the souls of Christians who had already died over the millenniums.

Camping, a civil engineer, has managed to convince thousands of people the beginning of the apocalypse is near and the rapture will happen Saturday evening.
So how did Camping come up with his dire prediction?

He based his theory for the rapture and second coming of Jesus on two Bible passages. The first is in second book of Peter in the New Testament.

Camping said the 2 Peter passage says that “One day is with the Lord as a thousand years and a thousand years is one day.” By his deduction, Camping implies this to mean 7,000 years from the great flood will be the end of the world.

He also cites the book of Genesis. Camping said Genesis states, the flood began on the “17th day of the second month.” In his interpretation of the Jewish calendar, that date is May 21.

Combining the two, Camping has come up with Saturday as the date of the apocalypse. And what will happen precisely as 6:00 p.m., well, Camping said great earthquakes will be felt to start the apocalypse.
But don’t start worrying about not knowing if the Heat can beat the Bulls, or what the final episodes of Oprah will look like on television. Camping also predicted the world would end in 1994, which only happened for hard-core Nirvana fans.

So, if you believe the prediction from Camping and are planning on attending the Exxxotica convention, catching some rays on South Beach, or getting in a couple rounds of golf, you might want to do it before Saturday evening when Camping’s forecast calls for cloudy with a chance of rapture.

But what do you think?

The Bible is actually quite clear on the matter, but not the way Camping interprets it.

Matthew 24:36 quotes the words of Christ himself: “Concerning that day and hour (the 'end of the world') nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father."

So, at the time not even Jesus knew for sure when the end would come. In fact when his disciples questioned him about it he told them (in Acts 1:7):“It does not belong to YOU to get knowledge of the times or seasons which the Father has placed in his own jurisdiction".

Basically God has no intention to let us know exactly when the end would come. When the disciples questioned Jesus about it on another occasion (in Matthew 24:3), rather than give them a date, or even encourage them calculate for themselves, he simply gave them a "sign". 'Sign of the times' as we tend to call it.

This is what he told them (Matthew 24:4-14):

"Jesus said to them: “Look out that nobody misleads YOU; for many will come on the basis of my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many. YOU are going to hear of wars and reports of wars; see that YOU are not terrified. For these things must take place, but the end is not yet. “For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another. All these things are a beginning of pangs of distress. “Then people will deliver YOU up to tribulation and will kill YOU, and YOU will be objects of hatred by all the nations on account of my name. Then, also, many will be stumbled and will betray one another and will hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and mislead many; and because of the increasing of lawlessness the love of the greater number will cool off. But he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved. And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come."

Great earthquakes, great wars, severe famines, and serious illnessess, to name a few, were all part of the sign that would indicate the nearness of the end. By looking out for this composite sign we would know that the end is near. Surely we see this to be the case right now!

But why give a sign if it was possible to calculate the exact day?

You see then that we cannot work out God's timetable with some 'clever' manipulation of scriptures. Christ gaves a sign and asked us to 'stay awake', be alert regarding the times we live in, as we are warned in the Bible:

" Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come. Don't let anyone deceive you in any way". (2 Thessalonians 2:1-3)

We are urged further:

"Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled." (1 Thessalonians 5:1,2,6)

Osama bin Laden dead, body buried at sea

WASHINGTON: The body of Al-Qaeda mastermind Osama bin Laden has been buried at sea after he was killed by US covert forces in Pakistan , US media reported Monday.

Cable television networks CNN, MSNBC and Fox said a senior US official had confirmed to them that bin Laden's body had been buried in the sea, without giving further details.

US officials did not respond when contacted by AFP for confirmation of the reports.

But earlier an administration official said of the corpse: "We are ensuring that it is handled in accordance with Islamic practice and tradition.

"This is something that we take very seriously. And so therefore this is being handled in an appropriate manner."

Burying bin Laden's body at sea would ensure that his final resting place does not become a shrine and a place of pilgrimage for his followers, ABC television reported earlier.

QAEDA NEEDS "A MIRACLE" TO RECOVER

Some analysts say that bin Laden's memory may now inspire followers, who will now see him as a martyr, to take revenge.

And the extensive online forums, chat rooms and websites operated by al Qaeda sympathisers will ensure his role as the group's motivator-in-chief will endure.

"As a symbol, as a source of ideology, bin Laden can continue to play those roles dead as well as alive," Pillar said.

But his departure will add to pressure on morale throughout the network, despite al Qaeda's glorification of martyrdom and a perception that bin Laden died an honourable death in battle.

Gerges said it would "take a miracle" for al Qaeda to recover ideologically and operationally from bin Laden's death.

Thomas Hegghammer, a specialist on militancy at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment, said that over the long term his loss would deepen the group's disarray.

"It is bad for al Qaeda and the jihadi movements. Bin Laden was a symbol of al Qaeda's longevity and its defiance of the West. Now that symbol is gone."

Prince William and Kate Middleton have kissed twice on the balcony of Buckingham Palace after their wedding service in Westminster Abbey.

They were cheered by 500,000 well-wishers who gathered outside the palace, as RAF planes flew past in honour of the new royal couple.

Police estimate a million people lined the procession route from the abbey to the palace.

The bride will now be known as the Duchess of Cambridge.

The Queen is hosting a buffet reception at the palace for 650 guests.

The church service, watched by 1,900 guests, ran smoothly but the prince did struggle to place the wedding ring on the duchess's finger.

Following a long tradition, the ring has been fashioned from Welsh gold given to Prince William by the Queen.

After the couple said their vows, in which she did not promise to obey William, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Rowan Williams, declared: "I pronounce that they be man and wife together, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen."

They spent a private moment together with their families, as they signed the marriage register.

Prince William has been given the title of the Duke of Cambridge by the Queen, and Miss Middleton has become Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge on their marriage.

The duchess, who managed to keep her wedding dress a secret, is wearing an ivory and lace gown by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen. The prince is wearing the red tunic of an Irish Guards colonel - his most senior honorary appointment.

”Restrepo” director Tim Hetherington killed in Libya

Fighting in Libya's besieged rebel city of Misrata killed at least 10 civilians including an Oscar-nominated British filmmaker, and NATO urged non-combatants to avoid troops so it could step up air strikes.

Among the dead were British photojournalist Tim Hetherington, co-director of Oscar-nominated war documentary "Restrepo", and American photographer Chris Hondros, killed when a group they were in came under mortar fire.

Seven Libyan civilians and a Ukrainian doctor were also killed during fierce fighting in Libya's third largest city, medics said.

France promised the insurgents on Wednesday it would intensify air strikes on Libyan government forces and dispatch military liaison officers, echoing a move by Britain, to help organize poorly trained insurgents.

Rebels said they were battling for control of a major road in Misrata, a port of 300,000 people and the insurgents' last bastion in the west of the country, where civil war ignited in February over demands for an end to Gaddafi's 41-year rule.

Around 120 people were wounded, including the wife of the Ukrainian doctor who lost both of her legs, according to Khalid Abufalgha, a doctor on the Misrata medical committee that tracks civilian casualties.

Abufalgha said a total of 365 people have been killed, including at least 85 civilians, and 4,000 people wounded in the Mediterranean city since it came under government siege about seven weeks ago. Civilians say they live in constant fear of government snipers.

"Mohammed and his friends were in our garage. They had gone outside to play when he had to pause to put his shoe on. In that instant the bullet hit his head," said Zeinab, mother of a 10-year-old boy who lay in bed with a bullet wound.

Rebels complained that there were too few NATO air strikes.

"NATO has been inefficient in Misrata. NATO has completely failed to change things on the ground," rebel spokesman Abdelsalam said.

Libyan state television said early on Thursday that NATO forces had struck the Khallat al-Farjan area of the capital Tripoli, killing seven people and wounding 18 others. The report could not immediately be independently verified.

Rebel spokesman Abdulrahman, reached by telephone from the western town of Zintan, said clashes were also taking place in Nalut, near the Western border with Tunisia.

"Clashes are currently occurring in Nalut and have been going on since Monday. The Gaddafi forces are using Grad missiles and mortar rounds to attack Nalut. It's not an even battle. The rebels are not well-armed."

NATO TELLS CIVILIANS TO AVOID GADDAFI FORCES

Canadian Lieutenant-General Charles Bouchard, commander of NATO's Libya operations, said Libyan civilians should keep away from Gaddafi's forces to help NATO carry out air attacks.

"Civilians can assist NATO by distancing themselves from Gaddafi regime forces and equipment whenever possible. Doing this will allow NATO to strike those forces and equipment with greater success...," Bouchard said in a statement.

Aid groups say the humanitarian situation in Misrata is turning grave due to a lack of food and medical supplies.

Forces loyal to Gaddafi have been bombarding Misrata heavily over the last week. The government denies it is targeting civilians in the city.

There are long queues for petrol, and electricity has been cut so residents depend on generators. Thousands of stranded foreign migrant workers are awaiting rescue in the port area.

President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron discussed on Wednesday the need to increase diplomatic and economic pressure on Gaddafi, the White House said.

France said it would send up to 10 military advisers to Libya, following on Britain's plan to dispatch up to a dozen officers to help rebels improve organization and communications. Neither country plans to arm or train the insurgents to fight.

In Paris, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who has spearheaded U.N.-backed NATO intervention, pledged stronger military action at his first meeting with the leader of the opposition Libyan National Council, Mustafa Abdel Jalil.

"We are indeed going to intensify the attacks and respond to this request from the national transition council," an official in the president's office said, quoting Sarkozy as telling Abdel Jalil: "We will help you."

He did not say how NATO-led forces planned to overcome the stalemate on the ground after the United States and several European allies declined last week to join ground strikes.

Abdel Jalil told reporters he had invited Sarkozy to pay a visit to the eastern rebel powerbase city of Benghazi to underline French support for ending Gaddafi's autocratic tenure and "boost the morale of the revolution."

French officials did not say whether Sarkozy had accepted.

Evidence surfaced on Wednesday that Gaddafi's government is dodging U.N. sanctions to import gasoline to western Libya using intermediaries who transfer the fuel between ships in Tunisia, a source with direct knowledge of the situation told Reuters.

Dame Elizabeth Taylor, one of the 20th Century's biggest movie stars, has died in Los Angeles at the age of 79.

The double Oscar-winning actress had a long history of ill health and was being treated for symptoms of congestive heart failure.

Her four children were with her when she died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, her publicist said.

In a statement, her son Michael Wilding called her "an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest".

"We know, quite simply, that the world is a better place for Mom having lived in it," he continued.

"Her legacy will never fade, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live forever in our hearts."

She lost out in her first three attempts - for Raintree County, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Suddenly, Last Summer - but triumphed at her fourth attempt with Butterfield 8.

Dame Elizabeth reflects on life in spotlight

She met the actor while filming 1963's Cleopatra - which became notorious as one of the most expensive films of all time, but which also sparked one of Hollywood's greatest romances.

Taylor had already been married four times - to Conrad Hilton Jr, Michael Wilding, Michael Todd and Eddie Fisher - before she wed Burton in 1964.

Their tempestuous relationship saw them divorce and remarry in 1975 before she moved on to further marriages with John W Warner and Larry Fortensky.

Her health problems began with a fall while filming her first hit film, National Velvet, which led to a lifetime of back problems.

A rare strain of pneumonia almost killed her in 1961 and she also battled addictions to alcohol and painkillers.

In the 1990s, she endured two hip replacement operations and another near-fatal bout of pneumonia and survived surgery for a benign brain tumour in 1997.

In 2004, it was revealed that she was suffering from congestive heart failure, with symptoms including fatigue and shortness of breath, and scoliosis, which twisted her spine.

But she continued to campaign for her Aids charity, which she set up in 1991 after the death of her friend and co-star Rock Hudson.

In addition to her four children - Michael Wilding, Christopher Wilding, Maria Burton-Carson and Liza Todd-Tivey - Dame Elizabeth is survived by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A private family funeral will be held later this week. Instead of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to theElizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation.

British actress Joan Collins, who starred alongside Dame Elizabeth in the 2001 TV film These Old Broads, called her "the last of the True Hollywood Icons".

"A great beauty, a great actress and continually fascinating to the World throughout her tumultuous life and career. She will be missed," she added.

Singer George Michael said: "She also did a great deal in the last 25 yrs [sic] to help the world deal with the HIV epidemic. I am proud to have known her if only a little."

One-time co-star Sir Michael Caine also paid tribute, remembering her as "a beautiful woman, a wonderful actress, and a great human being."

Former astronaut honors 25th anniversary of Challenger explosion

‘The most important thing that has ever happened in space happened on this flight - the first Mountaineer in space,’ WVU graduate, Navy veteran and astronaut Jon McBride says.

Jon McBride, retired NASA astronaut, lectured on his personal experience and the life of late Challenger crew member Ronald McNair Thursday at West Virginia University in an event hosted by the McNair Scholars Program.

McBride, a Beckley, W.Va., native, was a friend and classmate of McNair during their time at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

McBride said he was watching during a training session on Jan. 28, 1986, when the Challenger tragedy occurred.

Four of the Challenger crew members were McBride's own classmates. McBride said had they been alive today and approached with flying another mission, they would have all accepted without hesitation.

"One of the things we found out on that day was that we were working people too hard," McBride said.

Provost Michelle Wheatley said she could remember exactly what she was doing 25 years ago when the Challenger launched. She was an assistant professor in Florida at the time, and she remembers watching the launch with some of her colleagues, she said.

"Of course, more than half of the people who are here tonight are under the age of 25," Wheatley said.

All seven members of the Challenger crew died when the spaceship exploded on Jan. 28, 1986, shortly after it was launched.

McNair was the second African-American to fly into space. The McNair Scholars program was established in his honor later in 1986 after the Challenger explosion.

It is a nationally funded scholarship that serves first-generation college students from low-income families, or students from underrepresented groups, such as African-Americans, Native Americans, Native Hawiians and Hispanics.

Betty Mei, assistant director of the WVU McNair Scholars Program, said the scholarship is open to rising juniors and seniors and offers opportunities in research training, GRE test preparation, tutoring and other tools to help McNair Scholars work toward goals in graduate study.

The deadline to apply for the scholarship was Jan. 14, and they are currently screening applications, she said. Mei said she encourages students to consider applying for the scholarship to help them achieve their higher education goals.

Anand Sunny Narayanan, a senior mechanical engineering and biology major, was a McNair Scholarship recipient in 2008. Narayanan said the McNair Scholarship helped his education.

"Growing up, I was not in the best financial situation. It was hard to imagine how I would be able to attain the education of my dreams," he said.

Ronald McNair earned his doctorate in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

After the Challenger tragedy in 1986, the U.S. Congress named the newly established Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program for Ronald E. McNair.

WikiLeaks to Release Secret Swiss Bank Account Info

Swiss whistle-blower and former banker Rudolf Elmer has given WikiLeaks information about bank accounts of more than 2,000 prominent individuals, potentially exposing tax evasion, the BBC reports.

The data is not yet available on WikiLeaks, but it was publicly given on two discs by Elmer to WikiLeaks founder and owner Julian Assange at a press conference in London this morning. The data needs to be vetted before it gets released, and some of it will likely be handed over to the authorities. “Once we have looked at the data… there will be full revelation,” said Assange.

The freshly leaked data covers the period from 1990 to 2009 and concerns companies and individuals from many countries, including the UK, U.S. and Germany, Swiss newspaper Der Sonntag reports. Elmer himself said at the press conference that the data covers info about three different banks and 40 politicians.

Rudolf Elmer - who runs his own whistle-blowing website -has previously worked in Swiss bank Julius Baer; he was fired from his position in 2002 and has previously leaked information to WikiLeaks about Julius Baer’s offshore operations at the Cayman Islands.

He is scheduled to go on trial in Switzerland in two days for breaking bank secrecy laws.

But that is just the case for Megan McAllister, the ex-fiance of the Craigslist Killer Philip Markoff who was featured on the Lifetime made for TV feature The Craiglist Killer. In the film she is portrayed by Agnes Bruckner.

The two were to be wed on August 14, 2009. They met in 2005 and got engaged three years later. While planning for a wedding that would never happen, her life changed forever. It turns out her finance Philip Markoff was a serial killer and then he committed suicide. Yes, pretty dramatic to say the least.

But where is Megan McAllister now?

After Markoff was arrested she released a statement saying, “To me and my family, he is a loving and caring person and in the eyes of the law and constitution, he is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Even after his arrest she thought they would still be together saying, “We expect to marry in August and share and wonderful, meaningful life together.” But that did not happen.

But before he took his own life Megan McAllister visited him in jail and broke up with him and to “move on with her life.” And right before he died, he had written her name in blood on the wall of his jail.

So where is she now? She is still pursuing a career in medicine (they met at Boston University) and was attending medical school far away in the Caribbean.

New Big Ten Logo - Worst Logo Change Ever?

When is the last time a corporation or other entity made a good choice when changing their logo? It's been quite some time...

The Big Ten Conference in college football is the latest entity to come up with a new logo which stinks on ice. It's so terrible that it looks like a high school graphic arts student designed it in 2 minutes, while under the influence of salvia.

Earlier this year, the geniuses at Gap attempted to bestow a new logo upon their brand only to fail miserably. The new logo was so poorly received that Gap supporters took to Facebook and other social networks to state their displeasure. A mutiny was underway and the suits at Gap realized the new logo wasn't just pathetic, it was an atrocity of mythical proportions. Within a week they went back to the old logo.

Already, college football fans and BigTen supporters are destroying the abominable new Big Ten logo. One has to wonder what their marketing department is inhaling over there. Just what is the point of having a "1" in place of the "I" in the logo? To quote the Double Rainbow guy, "What does this mean?" While there had to be some sort of logo adjustment or change due to Nebraska joining the Big Ten (thus making it 12 teams) this was a horrendous choice. Why not just modify the existing logo so it has a "12" integrated into it, rather than an "11?"

The Big Ten's failed new logo is the latest example of just how out of touch the suits are in corporate America. They think they know more than the public because they went to Ivy League institutions or they have a masters in Marketing or Business Administration.

The reality is many of these suits are out of touch with the public. The public hates change. When you have a logo that works, stick with it. People in America are fickle and like to be comfortable with something they've grown to like and trust.

Don't be surprised if the geniuses in the marketing department for the Big Ten Conference come to their senses in a week, much like the braintrust at Gap did.

If you’re looking for an in-depth treatment of free traffic generation methods then you should invest in Total Traffic Annihilation. I recently had the opportunity to enjoy a preview of this course, and the eBook alone makes it worth your while—it contained 114 pages of focused, step-by-step methods that were presented as a total marketing plan.

I especially enjoyed the sections on blog comment marketing and forum marketing. These sections really helped me understand the right way to use those tools and the strength of what they have to offer. I’d avoided them in the past, feeling as though they were somewhat artificial, but Total Traffic Annihilation showed me they did not have to be.

While I’m not certain all 28 of the strategies presented in the eBook are good fits for my business I was impressed to have so many options to choose from. Every one of the options was covered in a clear, understandable way that will make them easy for me to implement in the future.

The new software package also offers some exciting applications. For example, it allows me to specify RSS feeds to pull content from. It then automatically uses this content to create posts in the categories I specify. I enjoy having a way to comb through article directories for this freely available content. It even allows me to create a site that appears to have been around for awhile through the clever use of back-dating. My site doesn’t look at all automated as a result, which I appreciate given most people’s opinions of automated blogs.

That’s not to say the course is perfect. I found some of the information duplicated things I have tried and found ineffective in the past, such as submitting to directories like DMOZ. I would have liked to have seen some more in-depth troubleshooting in this area because I’ve simply never found success there. It may simply have been that my sites were a poor fit for the directories or because I was impatient.

All in all, however, I would happily recommend this course. It should be especially helpful to anybody who has struggled with getting enough website traffic. After all, no traffic means no sales, making this course the potential investment of a lifetime.

Curtis had a memorable role in the classic gladiator movie "Spartacus" in 1960 and received an Academy Award nominee for 1958's "The Defiant Ones" but his career got off to a rough start. His first starring role was in "The Prince Who Was a Thief" in 1951 and critics were appalled as Curtis, playing an Arabian prince, proclaimed in a thick New York accent, "Yonduh lies de castle of de caliph, my fadder!"

Still, Universal Pictures' star-making machinery and teen fan magazines managed to make Curtis a celebrity and movie-goers loved his dark-haired sex appeal and impish grin.

Within a few years, Curtis had improved enough for Saturday Review magazine to call him "a rare phenomenon, an authentic screen personality who, through hard work, has made himself into an actor of considerable subtlety and some breadth."

Two of his most enduring performances came in "Some Like It Hot" as he teamed with Jack Lemmon -- playing cross-dressers opposite Marilyn Monroe -- and "The Sweet Smell of Success," in which which he played a fawning press agent.

His Oscar nomination came for the 1959 film "The Defiant Ones," in which he played racist escaped con chained to Sidney Poitier. Other notable films included "Houdini," "Trapeze," "Operation Petticoat," "The Boston Strangler," "The Vikings" and "The Great Imposter."

Curtis made more than 140 films, mixing comedies with dramas, but part of his life was plagued by poor movies and struggles with cocaine and alcohol.

Curtis was born Bernard Schwartz in New York to poor Hungarian immigrants on June 3, 1925. He quit school to join the Navy in World War Two, serving on a submarine tender, and pursued acting after his discharge.

Curtis was known to be demanding at the height of his stardom and television producer Lew Gallo called him "an impetuous child."

As fascinating to fans as his performances was Curtis' private life. He was an inveterate womanizer whose girlfriends included Marilyn Monroe and Natalie Wood. He was married six times, starting with actress Janet Leigh in a union he later admitted was partially motivated by publicity value. After divorcing Leigh, he married Christine Kaufman, who was 17 when they met while filming "Taras Bulba."

Curtis was once quoted as saying, "I wouldn't be seen dead with a woman old enough to be my wife." His sixth wife, Jill Vandenberg, was 45 years younger than Curtis.

Curtis' children included actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who was estranged from him for much of his life, and he admitted he was a failure as a father.

As his acting career waned, Curtis concentrated on painting and in 1989 he sold more than $1 million worth of his art in the first day of a Los Angeles exhibition.

"Painting is more meaningful to me than any performance I've ever given," he told an interviewer.

Curtis eventually moved to Las Vegas. In 1989, he released an exercise videotape for people past age 50.

He operated the Shiloh Horse Rescue and Sanctuary, a refuge for horses that were abandoned or abused, on the California-Nevada border with wife Jill.

Nokia N8 vs iPhone 4

Nokia has great expectations of their N8 smartphone device, but how does it truly compare to the likes of the Apple iPhone 4 – or other smartphones? The Nokia N8 has still not been released to the market yet, but from what we can tell there are a few problems.

There are certainly some great features that will help the N8 stand out, but are they enough to challenge the iPhone 4? An article written by Surojit Chatterjee on MSNBC aims to find out. (See below.)

There seems to be five main issues with Nokia’s upcoming handset, these are as follows: weak processor, low memory, Symbian OS, internal battery and finally its price.

The 680MHz processor will not cut it in today’s age, most smartphones now run a 1GHz chip, the upcoming Droid 2 R2D2 Edition is rumored to come with a 1.25GHz processor – almost double that of the N8.

The two biggest issues I believe are the mobile OS, and its price. There were rumors that Nokia were considering a move to Windows Phone 7, and although there is no evidence of this – it does show the failings of Symbian. The $549 price tag could be the deciding factor on how well the N8 does, but with cheaper Android handsets on the market – things do not look that great.

5 Reasons Nokia's N8 Won't Beat the iPhone 4

The new smartphone may help boost Nokia's market share, but will it move the company to the top of the heap?

Nokia's new N8 smartphone has impressive specifications and is perhaps the best smartphone the Finnish mobile phone maker has launched yet. Its powerful camera features, Symbian 3 OS, and huge storage capacity (up to 48GB via a MicroSD card slot) are certain to attract early adopters. But can it be a threat to Apple's iPhone 4?

Analysts don't think so. Though the N8 is "a clear improvement" over previous Nokia offerings, Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi believes that the N8 won't wipe the floor with the competition.

According to independent technology analyst Per Lindberg, the N8 is "certainly a step in the right direction (as) it's much more multimedia" than previous Nokia smartphones, but "whether it will move Nokia's market share upwards is more debatable."

Ovum's Tony Cripps also thinks the N8 is far from being industry changing: "I don't think Nokia would position the N8 as a revolutionary device."

There are five reasons the N8 won't be able to beat the iPhone 4 or the latest smartphones from rivals such as Motorola, HTC, or Samsung.

1. Weak processor.

Nokia claims the N8 has a "lightning-fast processor" and is capable of rendering graphics and playing videos and games "smoother and faster" than previous Nokia smartphones.

Technically, Nokia is right, because its last smartphone, the N97, ran on a 434MHz processor, while the N8 runs at 680MHz. However, to call the N8's processor "lightning-fast" is a misnomer. The iPhone 4, HTC's Evo 4G, Motorola's Droid 2, and Samsung's Galaxy S all run on a more powerful 1GHz processor. Comparing the N8 processor to these models is like comparing an Oldsmobile to a Lamborghini.

2. Low memory.

For a top-end smartphone, the N8 has a low memory capacity. The device has only 256MB of SDRAM, while its high-end rivals boast twice as much. If you run too many applications at once, the N8 will quickly succumb to the pressure.

3. Symbian OS.

Although Symbian OS is N8's strength, it is also its biggest weakness.

According to Gartner, even though Symbian OS will have controlled 40.1% of the smartphone market in 2010, it will witness a sharp drop to 30.2% by 2014. The only OS expected to gain ground over the period is Google's Android platform, whose market share will surge from 17.7% in 2010 to 29.6% in 2014. But even Research In Motion, Apple, and Microsoft are expected to lose less OS share than Nokia will.

According to CCS Insight analyst Ben Wood, Nokia's new smartphones were "critical" in the fight to grab market share, but the Symbian software, despite refinements aimed at making it easier for developers to write apps for the phones, was "not positioned to challenge the iPhone."

"Nobody doubts Nokia's credentials. It has the market share but has lost the mindshare," Wood said. "Nokia, along with all the other mobile manufacturers, has been wrong footed by Apple and Google, and it will be a tough road to recovery."

There's nothing to set Symbian apart from its competition, and that's contributing to its sharp decline. Symbian devices are also unable to update beyond the core system software with which they shipped. Updates are an essential part of how smartphones work -- not only to offer bug fixes, but also to introduce new features and develop brand equity and loyal users. Android, BlackBerry OS, and Apple's iOS all offer upgrade paths beyond core system updates. For instance, users of the two-year-old 3G iPhone can upgrade their device from iOS 2.0 to iOS 4.1. Likewise, anyone who got a Motorola Droid last year can switch from Android 2.0 to Android 2.2. But Nokia has historically not supported a commercial upgrade path for older Symbian-based devices.

4. Internal battery.

Like the iPhone, the N8's battery is sealed inside the unit. Nokia has recommended that N8 users not try replacing the battery. "It can easily be replaced at a Nokia service center," the company said in a blog post.

5. Price.

The N8 will cost $549 in the United States. Meanwhile, you can get a 32GB iPhone 4 for $299 by signing a two-year contract with AT&T. Other top-end smartphones -- including the BlackBerry Torch 9800, Droid 2, Evo 4G, and Samsung Galaxy S -- are available at subsidized prices between $149 and $249 when you sign with a provider.

Not surprisingly, some observers believe that Nokia's insistence on selling its devices unsubsidized and without operator input represents arrogance on the company's part that has become its pitfall.

Conclusion
The N8 is no iPhone killer. It may also have a hard time competing with other leading smartphones. But analysts suggest that the N8 represents a good start from a company that's always struggled in the high-margin smartphone segment and could herald the start of a good fight toward smartphone leadership.

"Big Mistake" to Let Her Keep Taking Prescription Meds

(CBS) Can jail time help Lindsay Lohan get her life back on track?

The star has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for probation violations from a 2007 drug case.

But could everything change for the actress behind bars?

Brad Lamm, a board-registered interventionist and the author of "How to Change Someone You Love," says the jail time is an intervention "of sorts."

"I love that, in terms of interrupting the behavior of the drugs," he said. "Whatever nonsense is going on in her life, it's a great way to get in there. At least the judge is acting like an adult in the room. It seems like there's not a lot of those people in her life."

However, Lohan may continue to take doctor-prescribed drugs in jail.

According to her probation report, she's currently taking five powerful medications, including Adderall, Dilaudid and Zoloft.

Lindsay Lohan's father, Michael Lohan, said on "The Early Show" prescription medications are his daughter's very problem.

He told co-anchor Erica Hill this week, "So many doctors have prescribed her so many different things that she never was on and never needed and now she's on them. I couldn't tell you all the names, but Adderall, for one. Adderall is nothing but methamphetamine. For anyone that knows the pharmaceutical business or knows what kids are into these days, adderall is taking over society. It's supposed to an focus medication, but it's speed. And it's polluting society and our teenagers and kids."

Lamm told "Early Show" co-anchor Chris Wragge prescription addiction is the fastest-growing addiction problem in America.

Lamm says letting Lohan keep taking these medications is a "big mistake." He said some of the drugs prescribed to Lohan have high potential for abuse.

Lamm said he'd like to have seen Lohan in jail yesterday or today.

"Sometimes that last window of opportunity is a chance to go blow it out big time before you go in and do your time," he said. "That's my concern, too, is that she'll just view it as doing time instead of taking care of herself and separating herself from the problems that are hurting her."

Lohan will also be held in solitary confinement. And Lamm says that's the best thing for the star's recovery.

"Addiction is a problem of isolation and loneliness," he said. "Hopefully, there are some voices in her life that matter that are trying to help her in some way. And I think love is the best motivator for change if people can get in there and help her in some way, some fashion. The trouble with addiction though, there's so much collateral damage with it. She comes into all her relationships with a deficit, overdrawn trust bank account. So, lots of damaging relationships. Sometimes it's hard to get those folks to even speak up."

Lamm says support from friends and family is important. However, Wragge pointed out, Lohan's family and friends may not be the best people for providing support.

Lamm replied, "I'll tell you, the families I work with -- mine included -- on the outside look like the perfect, all-American families. Their family has played out in the headlines and on TV, but every family has a story. Every family has dysfunction. In that, they can find a loving way to help someone if they can put their personalities to the side."

He added, "I challenge everybody not to give up on the loved one who's addicted. At the end of your rope, there's hope ... We can help someone we love get help."

Tennis Girl photographer dies after cancer battle

The photographer behind the famous 'Tennis Girl' photo of the 1970s, Martin Elliott, has died. He was 63.

Martin Elliott died last week after a 10-year battle with cancer, reports the Western Morning News.

Cornwall-based journalist Jeff Reines, who reported Martin's death, told Amateur Photographer that the photographer's widow, Noelle, is preparing to issue a formal statement on her husband's death in the next few days.

Speaking to Amateur Photographer in 2007, Martin - who lived in Truro, Cornwall - explained how he captured the Tennis Girl photo on a tennis court at Birmingham University in the summer of 1976 – using a Nikon camera and Kodak film.

The image attained iconic status when it was made into an Athena poster.

Though Martin did well from the photo he said it harmed his career for a while.

'I didn't want to come to London and companies in the Midlands thought I would be too expensive to hire, even though I wasn't,' he said.

The girl in the photo was the photographer's then girlfriend, Fiona Butler, though many others later claimed to be the girl pictured, according to Martin.

Commenting on the photo in 2007, Martin told us: 'Technically, it's a good picture, but I had the luck of the Devil with the way it turned out. I was very pleased with the shot and offered it to Athena - who turned it down. So I took it to a picture library, and gave them strict instructions that it shouldn't be used as a poster. '

A week or so later the library called me, apologising that they had sold it as a poster with a calendar printed on it - and to Athena. The deal was only for a year, but Athena printed the poster again the next year with the next year's date on it. They had already printed a warehouse full, but they didn't have the rights. I had them over a barrel and was able to demand 10% royalties - which I got.

'That original contract, for the first year, only paid £130, which I had to split with the library, but even the next year I didn't trust the company to pay me properly. An ex-employee told me that Athena hated paying royalties! '

Athena never owned the picture, though plenty of people still associate the company with it, so I still own it completely. It is still in demand too. I get at least one call a week about usage. In the summer, and during Wimbledon, I get a lot more. '

It is strange how famous the picture has become - far more famous than me - and now it is one of the most reproduced photographs in the world.'

Brittany Murphy's shocking death of a heart attack at age 32 has suddenly thrust her lesser-known husband, Simon Monjack, into the spotlight.

The "Clueless" star's 39-year-old husband told hospital staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles not to perform an autopsy, according to a report on the gossip Web site TMZ.com, though one is reportedly already under way.

Before he married Murphy in a private Jewish ceremony in May 2007, the British-born Monjack was a bit player in the screenwriting industry. He earned a story credit for his work on the screenplay that became "Factory Girl," the 2006 Edie Sedgwick biopic starring Sienna Miller, IMBD.com reports. He also is credited as the writer/director/producer of a British indie drama called "Two Days, Nine Lives."

Before his work in Hollywood, Monjack directed commercials.

In 2007, People magazine reported that Monjack would direct and Murphy would star in "The White Hotel," a film about Sigmund Freud's relationship with one of his patients, an opera singer.

Murphy and Monjack became engaged in 2006, just months after she ended her engagement to "Little Black Book" production assistant Joe Macaluso. She had previously been engaged, in 2004, to Jeff Kwatinetz, CEO of a Hollywood talent agency. Murphy also was romantically linked to Ashton Kutcher, whom she met on the set of "Just Married" in 2002.

According to People Magazine, soon after Murphy's marriage to Monjack, reports circulated that the couple expedited their wedding so that the Brit-born groom would not be deported over an expired visa. But the duo told inTouch Weekly that the rumours were "preposterous lies. Everything was just so fabricated and hurtful."

What isn't fabricated is the fact that Murphy's sizable income (she was paid $4 million for her starring role in 'Little Black Book') contrasted greatly with Monjack's reported financial woes. Mortgage and banking company Coutts and Co. sued the writer for $470,132 in 2006 and he only finished paying the company back in 2008.

Despite Monjack's later eviction from a Hancock Park residence, an ex-landlord tells E! News he was a good tenant.

"He was a delight and a pleasure to be with," said Victor Cowley. "I'm really shocked and devastated by the news. I just sent him an e-mail with my condolences."

The tabloids went wild last month when Murphy was reportedly fired from the set of "The Caller" for being difficult. Some reports claimed that Monjack wasn't helping, arguing with the crew and generally causing trouble on the set.

Murphy's rep denied both those reports.

Murphy and Monjack had a health scare soon after Murphy's reported firing.

Monjack was rushed to an L.A. hospital after appearing incoherent aboard a flight from Puerto Rico with his wife. According to the 911 call, Monjack had stopped breathing but was quickly revived by emergency medical technicians. Though TMZ says Murphy thought he had suffered an asthma attack and that it was not serious, medics insisted on taking him to the hospital anyway.

Since his wife's death, Monjack has not talked to the press, though Murphy's family released the following statement: "The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy. She was our daughter, our wife, our love and a shining star. We ask you to respect our privacy at this time."

New Jackson single, LP to be released

Sony Music has confirmed that it plans to release a new Michael Jackson album and single.

The song 'This Is It' will be made available on October 12, two weeks prior to the release of the concert film of the same name, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The track will appear on a two-disc compilation - also titled This Is It - that will follow on October 26.

"Disc one will feature the original album masters of some of Michael's biggest hits arranged in the same sequence as they appear in the film," according to the record label.

"The disc ends with two versions of the never-released 'This Is It'. This song is featured in the film's closing sequence and includes backing vocals by Michael's brothers, the Jacksons."

The second disc will feature "previously unreleased versions" from the late King Of Pop's catalogue of hits. It will also include a spoken word poem entitled Planet Earth and a 36-page commemorative booklet with "exclusive photos of Michael from his last rehearsal".

Former Sony CEO Tommy Mottola recently said that fans can expect to enjoy new music from the popstar for "decades to come".

'Dirty Dancing' star Patrick Swayze dies at 57

Patrick Swayze personified a particular kind of masculine grace both on and off screen, from his roles in films like "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost" to the way he carried himself in his long fight with pancreatic cancer. Swayze died from the illness on Monday in Los Angeles, his publicist said. He was 57.

"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," Annett Wolf said in a statement Monday evening. She declined to give details.

Fans of the actor were saddened to learn in March 2008 that Swayze was suffering from an especially deadly form of cancer. He continued working despite the diagnosis, putting together a memoir with his wife and shooting "The Beast," an A&E drama series for which he had already made the pilot.

Swayze said he chose not to use painkillers while making "The Beast" because they would have taken the edge off his performance. The show drew a respectable 1.3 million viewers when the 13 episodes ran this year, but A&E said it reluctantly decided not to renew it for a second season.

When he first went public with the illness, some reports gave him only weeks to live, but his doctor said his situation was "considerably more optimistic" than that. Swayze acknowledged that time might be running out given the grim nature of the disease.

"I'd say five years is pretty wishful thinking," Swayze told ABC's Barbara Walters in early 2009. "Two years seems likely if you're going to believe statistics. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I'd better get a fire under it."

And that's exactly what he did. In February, Swayze wrote an op-ed piece in the Washington Post titled, "I'm Battling Cancer. How About Some Help, Congress?" in which he urged senators and representatives to vote for the maximum funding for the National Institutes of Health to fight cancer as part of the economic stimulus package.

He also appeared in the September 2008 live television event "Stand Up to Cancer," where he pleaded: "I keep dreaming of a future, a future with a long and healthy life, a life not lived in the shadow of cancer, but in the light. ... I dream that the word `cure' will no longer be followed by the words `is impossible.'"

Celebrities and fans inspired by Swayze's struggle poured out their condolences, including C. Thomas Howell, who costarred with Swayze in "The Outsiders," "Grandview U.S.A." and "Red Dawn."

"I have always had a special place in my heart for Patrick," he said. "While I was fortunate enough to work with him in three films, it was our passion for horses that forged a friendship between us that I treasure to this day."

Others used Twitter to express their sadness, and "Dirty Dancing" was a top trending topic Monday night, trailed by other Swayze films.

Demi Moore, who played Swayze's fiancee in "Ghost," wrote: "Patrick you are loved by so many and your light will forever shine in all of our lives." Moore's husband, Ashton Kutcher, tweeted: "RIP P Swayze" and linked to a YouTube clip of the actor poking fun at himself in a classic "Saturday Night Live" sketch, in which he played a wannabe Chippendales dancer alongside the corpulent — and frighteningly shirtless — Chris Farley.

Larry King wrote: "Patrick Swayze was a wonderful actor & a terrific guy. He put his heart in everything. He was an extraordinary fighter in his battle w Cancer." King added that he'd do a tribute to Swayze on his CNN program Tuesday night.

A three-time Golden Globe nominee, Swayze became a star with his performance as the misunderstood bad boy Johnny Castle in "Dirty Dancing." As the son of a choreographer who began his career in musical theater, he seemed a natural to play the role.

A coming-of-age romance starring Jennifer Grey as an idealistic young woman on vacation with her family and Swayze as the Catskills resort's sexy (and much older) dance instructor, the film made use of both his grace on his feet and his muscular physique.

It became an international phenomenon in the summer of 1987, spawning albums, an Oscar-winning hit song in "(I've Had) the Time of My Life," stage productions and a sequel, 2004's "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights," in which he made a cameo.

Swayze performed and co-wrote a song on the soundtrack, the ballad "She's Like the Wind," inspired by his wife, Lisa Niemi. The film also gave him the chance to utter the now-classic line, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner."

Swayze followed up with the 1989 action flick "Road House," in which he played a bouncer at a rowdy bar. But it was his performance in 1990's "Ghost" that showed his vulnerable, sensitive side. He starred as a murdered man trying to communicate with his fiancee, with great frustration and longing, through a psychic played by Whoopi Goldberg.

"Ghost" provided yet another indelible musical moment: Swayze and Moore sensually molding pottery together to the strains of the Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody." It also earned a best-picture nomination and a supporting-actress Oscar for Goldberg, who said she wouldn't have won if it weren't for Swayze.

"When I won my Academy Award, the only person I really thanked was Patrick," Goldberg said in March 2008 on the ABC daytime talk show "The View."

Swayze himself earned three Golden Globe nominations, for "Dirty Dancing," "Ghost" and 1995's "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar," which allowed him to toy with his masculine image. The role called for him to play a drag queen on a cross-country road trip alongside Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo.

His heartthrob status almost kept him from being considered for the role of Vida Boheme.

"I couldn't get seen on it because everyone viewed me as terminally heterosexually masculine-macho," he told The Associated Press then. But he transformed himself so completely that when his screen test was sent to Steven Spielberg, whose Amblin pictures produced "To Wong Foo," the director didn't recognize him.

Among his earlier films, Swayze was part of the star-studded lineup in Francis Ford Coppola's 1983 adaptation of S.E. Hinton's novel "The Outsiders," alongside Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Emilio Estevez and Diane Lane. Other '80s films included "Red Dawn," "Grandview U.S.A." and "Youngblood," once more with Lowe, as Canadian hockey teammates.

In the '90s, he made such eclectic films as "Point Break" (1991) in which he played the leader of a band of bank-robbing surfers, and the family Western "Tall Tale" (1995) in which he starred as Pecos Bill. He appeared on the cover of People magazine as its "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1991, but his career tapered off toward the end of the 1990s, when he went to rehab for alcohol abuse. In 2001, he appeared in the cult favorite "Donnie Darko," and in 2003 he returned to the New York stage with "Chicago"; 2006 found him in the musical "Guys and Dolls" in London.

Swayze was born in 1952 in Houston, the son of Jesse Swayze and choreographer Patsy Swayze, whose films include "Urban Cowboy."

He played football but also was drawn to dance and theater, performing with the Feld, Joffrey and Harkness Ballets and appearing on Broadway as Danny Zuko in "Grease." He turned to acting in 1978 after a series of injuries.

Within a couple years of moving to Los Angeles, he made his debut in the roller-disco movie "Skatetown, U.S.A." The eclectic cast included Scott Baio, Flip Wilson, Maureen McCormack and Billy Barty.

Off-screen, he was an avid conservationist who was moved by his time in Africa to shine a light on "man's greed and absolute unwillingness to operate according to Mother Nature's laws," he told the AP in 2004.

Swayze was married since 1975 to Niemi, a fellow dancer who took lessons with his mother; they met when he was 19 and she was 15. A licensed pilot, Niemi would fly her husband from Los Angeles to Northern California for treatment at Stanford University Medical Center.

Folk singer Mary Travers of Peter, Paul and Mary dead at 72

Travers not only sung, but was an advocate of civil rights.

Mary Travers, a striking figure of power and glamour in the early-1960s folk music movement, died Wednesday at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut after suffering from leukemia for several years. She was 72.

She was best known as the blond with the bangs who commanded the middle microphone with Peter, Paul and Mary, a trio that brought folk music from coffeehouses to top-40 radio.

They also gave much of America its first taste of the young Bob Dylan by helping to turn his "Blowin' in the Wind" into a national anthem.

The group reunited several years ago to begin touring, and Travers performed with them until a few months ago, even when she needed assistance on stage.

Travers, like Paul Stookey and Peter Yarrow, saw folk music both as an art and as an instrument for change. They sang a number of sociopolitical songs, which Travers later defended.

"I'm not sure I want to be singing 'Leaving on a Jet Plane' when I'm 75," she said in one interview. "But I know I'll still be singing 'Blowin' in the Wind.' "

She was born in Louisville, Ky., but grew up in Greenwich Village and came up through the New York coffeehouse circuit, singing on her own before she was put together with Stookey and Yarrow by famed manager Albert Grossman, who also managed Dylan.

The trio took considerable criticism from fellow folk singers for developing a sound that some considered too "commercial" and not "authentic" enough.

Travers always strongly defended the trio's sound, saying that they were in the folk tradition by making music accessible to everyone, not just academic collectors.

Peter, Paul and Mary were inducted into the Sammy Cahn Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006. Travers is survived by two daughters.

The Michael Jackson funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Sources said AEG Live, which owns the arena and the adjacent Nokia Theatre, will use both facilities and the surrounding plaza.

Meanwhile, things keep getting curiouser and curiouser in and around the Jackson "case." Even before a proper burial the death is morphing from a personal tragedy into a series of titillating tell-alls or testy tussles.

And the inevitable psychics, shysters and various supporting players are coming out of the woodwork to stake their claim to a piece of the Jackson legacy, to tattle about - or explain away - the pop icon's loopy lifestyle or just to bask in his reflected glory.

Latest reveal: Registered nurse-nutritionist SheriLyn Lee told CNN that an insomniac, energy-depleted Jackson begged her to administer the sedative Diprivan to help him sleep. The Jackson family immediately dismissed her as an ill-informed interloper.

Nonetheless, some things are becoming clearer - and one of them was the astuteness of the deal for that Beatles catalog, even if it apparently meant a rift with Paul McCartney and even if the King of Pop eventually had to sell half his stake to Sony to keep afloat. The 750,000-song catalog includes not only music by the Beatles but also many works of Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, Lady Gaga, Eminem and Jonas Brothers. That property essentially anchors the pop star's assets.
And getting at precisely what all those assets are, what they're worth and who has any legitimate claim to them will keep a phalanx of legal eagles engaged for years.

Per a detailed rundown of the singer's tangled finances upturned by the Associated Press on Wednesday, the lavish-spending but debt-ridden Jackson was worth $237 million as of March 31, 2007.

Like so much else that boggles the mind about Jackson's life, though, he had $700,000 of that amount in actual cash, a relatively paltry sum given his opulent lifestyle, prodigious borrowing and seven-figure shopping sprees.

The dollar amounts then and now are crucial because Jackson's estate soon will be the focus of legal battles between the singer's family and various creditors.

Not to mention Uncle Sam, who, once debts are stripped out of the Jackson assets, will want to exact his pound of flesh - as much as 45% of what's left of the estate once the legislated $3.5 million exemption is accounted for.

"I'm really surprised more hasn't been made of the possible federal estate tax liabilities that could be involved in all this," said Lawrence Heller, a tax and estate planner of the law firm Bryan Cave. He also added that the executors of the will have nine months to untangle the situation before interest and penalties apply.

Since 2007, Jackson's debts and his assets have grown substantially. He took on more debt in a refinancing transaction later that year, and the Sony/ATV Music Publishing joint venture spent hundreds of millions acquiring new songs.

The five-page statement of financial condition from D.C.-based accounting firm Thompson, Cobb, Bazilio & Associates says Jackson had debts of $331 million.

On the plus side of the ledger, the 2007 report put a net value on Jackson's 50% stake in the Sony/ATV catalog at $390 million.

His overall assets at the time, mostly nonliquid items including the catalog share, were pegged at about $500 million.

According to other unrelated documents, Sony Music guaranteed Jackson a cash distribution of $11 million a year from the venture through September 2011 and indicated that Sony had an option to buy an unspecified percentage of Jackson's remaining share in Sony/ATV.

The present worth of the catalog probably has gone up, though Sony's sluggish stock performance suggests the conglom might not be anxious to spend anything considerable for a buyout. The value of Neverland, the other main asset in which Jackson still had an indirect ownership interest, probably has gone down in the wake of the housing slump in California.

In another part of the forest of financial entanglements, there are a few patches of sunlight and a lot of shade.

Unlike what Jackson's family apparently was aware of, the singer did sign a will - big scrawls on each of five typed pages, in fact - and it leaves the pop star's estate to his three children. That revelation complicates a bid by Jackson's mother, Katherine, to take control of her son's finances. The will does name his mother as guardian of his children but puts his assets in a trust.

However, elements of the wacky pop up in every aspect of this unfolding saga: Jackson designated none other than the 65-year-old entertainer Diana Ross, his lifelong friend, as backup guardian for the kids were anything to prevent his mother, now 79, from fulfilling her duties. Debbie Rowe, the mother of Jackson's two older children who relinquished her parental rights 10 years ago, is not even referred to in the will.

The divvying up of Jackson's assets and the settling of his debts are likely to be hotly contested.

On Monday, just four days after their son died of cardiac arrest, Katherine and Joe Jackson won temporary custody of the kids and moved to become administrators of his estate. And on Wednesday, the judge further ruled that Katherine Jackson will retain limited control of 2,000 items from Neverland until another hearing is held Monday.

But after the will surfaced, Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff called for a speedy compromise between attorneys for Katherine Jackson and the two co-executors of Michael Jackson's will: attorney John Branca and John McClain, a music executive and family friend.

"I would like the family to sit down and try to make this work so that we don't have a difficult time in court," the judge said.

It looks like the piano man is done playing duets.

Billy Joel and his wife Katie Lee Joel have separated after five years of marriage, according to a statement released from both of their reps.

"After nearly five years of marriage Billy Joel & Katie Lee Joel have decided to separate," the statement reads. "This decision is a result of much thoughtful consideration. Billy & Katie remain caring friends with admiration and respect for each other.”

It's the third marriage for Joel, 60, who was first married to his business manager and then to model Christie Brinkley, with whom he has his only daughter, Alexa Ray. Alexa ray was the maid-of-honor at Joel's October 2, 2004 marraige to Katie Lee.

Katie Lee, 27, was the host of "Top Chef" for its 2006 season.

"This decision is the result of much thought and consideration. Billy and Katie remain caring friends, with admiration and respect for each other."

West Virginia native Katie Lee Joel is the author of the 2008 cookbook "The Comfort Table" (see below). Reports have linked her with an Israeli fashion designer.

David Carradine - Murder Or Suicide?

This morning we woke up with the news that the suicide fact of well known Hollywood movie actor David Carradine is disputed. People close to him say David never called a suicide hotline, did not appear to suffer from depression and never mentioned receiving treatment from depression. Thai police says Carradine was not murdered and most likely died from asphyxiation, reports WashPost.

Below we found a very good coverage from "Write Where You Are", where the author discusses David Carradine's death, calling it a sad end for a talented actor.

David Carradine was a very talented actor. He had a long career in television, on stage and in the movies. He made an impression on many by the types of roles that he took. There was always a little mystery surrounding him as a person. He came across as a person who kept much of his life private; he was a shy person, according to some of his own statements. David came from a talented family of actors, so, it is no surprise that he was skilled at what he did.

If you grew up during the 70’s like I did, you remember him from his television days. He was on "Gunsmoke". Most noteworthy to a kid growing up during that time - he was a wise man on the show. He used his martial art skills in life to teach and inspire a young trainee on the television show "Kung Fu". Kids all around the nation wanted to be like “young grasshopper” with an adult who took the time to mentor him in life lessons.

"Kung Fu" made a huge impression on a whole generation of young Americans. It opened the door to learning martial arts for many. David, and his show, made it cool to study the various forms of martial arts. The show put David in a bit of a leadership position with his fans. Today, we sadly, learned that David Carradine was found dead of a suspected suicide in Bankok, Thailand. His body was discovered nude, hanging with a hotel curtain cord around his neck.

Some people who know him say, he would not have taken his life, at this time, even though he struggled with suicidal thoughts in his past years. Those who do not believe he committed suicide say that his career was in an upswing and so was his personal life. A few years ago, his career took on a new life with the movie "Kill Bill". He had pretty much been out of the entertainment industry, until then. David had made statements to others about his suspicion that not many industry leaders were willing to give him roles as he aged. After appearing in "Kill Bill", he began working again; in fact, he was in Bankok, Thailand to film a new movie. He had only been at the hotel for a few days when he was found dead.

At this point, suicide is only suspected but David’s death appears suspicious, at least to his personal co-manager, Tiffany Smith. David was found in a sitting position in the closet with the cord wrapped around his neck and the closet rod. The authorities have said there doesn’t appear to be any assault, no forced entrance to his room, no obvious crime, so I guess that means the authorities don’t suspect that he was murdered. No news has been released about whether there was a suicide note or not. In fact, some say it had to be an accident; those who know him say he would never commit suicide.

If it’s true that he didn’t commit suicide and he wasn’t murdered, then what? an accident? That seems a bit difficult to understand. I mean, how does a curtain cord accidently get taken down and wrapped around the throat of a nude person, unless it is something called the ”choking game”. The choking game is an accident waiting to happen. It is a serious and dangerous activity, one that has become a threat around the world. It is dangerous because there is always the danger that the person could lose consciousness and die without meaning to.

In that kind of situation, I guess it could be considered an accident when someone waits too long to loosen the cord or binding around their neck. That is not to say that this is what happened to David Carradine, but there are definately a lot of questions surrounding David’s death. His family is asking for privacy at this time. They respected him, loved him and were apparently close to him. They are shocked and grieving the loss of a loved one. It is hard enough to lose a loved one, let alone to have to do it in the eye of the public and in mysterious circumstances to boot.

There is an autopsy being performed. Hopefully it will help to put some of the questions surrounding his death to rest. Whether it was suicide or if David Carradine was murdered, there is still pain and grief for his family, friends, co-stars, and fans. It is a sad end for a talented man who appeared to try to live his life with dignity. We wish to extend sympathy to all who knew him and to those who felt like they did because of the roles he performed and the impact on their lives from watching him over the years. Rest in peace David Carradine.
