Between Magic Mike and Fifty Shades of Grey…is “Mommy Porn” making a comeback?

Recently I was browsing Barnes and Noble’s Top 100 “Nook” books and quite surprised that the top three were the “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy. Now, I am not one to judge, but three books which could easily categorized as lit erotica at the top of the list…it must be a mistake.

But twasn’t… in fact, Fifty Shades of Grey recently shattered Harry Potter’s record of the fastest selling book of all time. Couple that with the high sales of a recent movie entitled “Magic Mike”…(a movie about a male stripper), and we have ourselves a resurgence of “Mommy Porn”. But why?

Porn Sets Societal Boundaries

Well as I wrote yesterday, porn is and has always been a boundary breaker. Let’s say that on a scale of 1-10, porn is 5 and society is 2. If porn decides to push to 6…society will eventually move to 3. Why? Because we, on the whole, love our flesh and are only constrained by societal peer pressure. The typical person wants to be accepted by those around them, so they behave a certain way.

But as the fringes of society begin to push further towards a 10, suddenly “3” doesn’t look all that bad. After all, at least I am not a 6. At least I haven’t done this or that …and so it goes.

Socially Acceptable

Many lonely housewives have purchased romance replacements from grocery store shelves along with the eggs and milk for years, but it has always been hush-hush. Men hide the Playboys or clean out the cookies from the family computer…and women read and take baths. But now with the lovely invention of e-readers, it is becoming clear… to everyone … that women love their erotica escapism . Suddenly hardcore novels are #1 on the top seller lists… thanks to anonymity via the wi-fi purchase option.

And with popular shows like “The View” and “Ellen” talking about Fifty Shades of Grey and Magic Mike…the social stigma of such things is slowly being lifted. It’s ok for girls to be just as aggressive and sexual as the boys now.

E-Readers to the Rescue

E-readers are going to do for lit-erotica what the internet did for porn. Allow women from all walks of life to indulge in their deepest darkest sexual porno fantasies from the comfort of their living room where no one will ever know and they don’t have to suffer the shame of society or the judgmental glances of the checkout girl. I had done my research and looked at the site. It look pretty damn rough but I was reassured it would be fine…My plan was to try and get through as much of the scene as possible before taking a break. The fewer breaks, the sooner I could get a burger and pass out. Once we started I didn't even make it for 2 minutes before I had to stop. Elana did was she was told to do and smacked/squeezed the male talent’s thigh’s to let him know she needed air…they did not let up in fact the camerman, known as “Big Red” said… “Big John Macarthy (a famous UFC referee) ain’t here to save you whore”…and kept it locked in until she literally flailed off the couch. She is then seen screaming and crying out of fear and panic. (it looks something like a triangle choke illustrated below, only the man is sitting , not lying)

Yet Adult Doorway (Facial Abuse, Ghetto Gaggers, Latina Abuse, etc…) is one of the most popular and well reviewed adult companies on the web. This site which routinely breaks pornstars down physically and mentally and is proud of it is something people are flocking too by the thousands. The question is, Is this new “breakdown” genere here to stay and will it help or hurt the porn industry? Arguments for both sides to follow:

It Helps

The argument for helps is three fold:

It attracts a new, untapped audience to the porn market thus bringing in a new stream of residual revenue.

Let’s be honest, porn is all about the money for everyone involved. Male and female talent are looking to make a quick buck, and producers want to see a high ROI for their investment. If that means tapping into the semi-sadist market share, so be it
It pushes the bounds of free speech

Another thing purveyors of porn love to tout about their industry is being on the cutting edge of free speech. The mere fact that hardcore pornography is freely produced and distributed is a testament to First Amendment rights.
It quenches what could be an otherwise dangerous fantasy.

Many directors and producers say that people watching this type of domination/humiliation porn helps quench the fantasy of the viewer, so he or she will not be tempted to go too far with a partner in real life and face possible legal repercussions. Instead they can watch two consenting adults act it out for them.

It Hurts

The argument for hurts is also three fold:

It attracts new and unsuspecting “one and dones”.

Although some mainstream actresses do participate in these scenes, the overwhelming majority are amateur types who have either never done porn or never done a hardcore scene. For this reason, when they do these types of extreme scenes, they tend to never do another porn scene again due to the physically and emotional strain on their person.
It pushes the bounds consent.

While many of these women understand the scene will be rough, they are not fully informed of everything that will happen to them. A classic example was detailed in another post…The Dog Dish Dump. Or the figure whore as described above. The surprise and shock and on camera meltdowns lead many to wonder just how informed these women were and if they would have gone through with the scene had they known a dish of their own vomit would be poured on them at the scene’s conclusion.
It fuels dangerous and unrealistic fantasies.

Many young men are now watching internet porn. It is no longer playboy and penthouse but instead it is gagging and anal sites. And while it is not porn’s fault that under 18 boys and girls are viewing this material, the fact remains that it is being done. And many young men and women grow up believing this is how normal people have sex when in fact it is a small minority that participate in BDSM/ultra-hardcore sex. So when reality strikes it can make for a very long and painful path to sexual normalcy in an intimate relationship.

In Conclusion:

In conclusion I believe this type of porn wouldn’t exist were there not a market for it. And as long as people are demanding it be produced, it shall be done. I also, however, believe that producers/directors should do a better job of selecting women who will be able to endure these types of scenes. Intentionally selecting young, inexperienced women is harmful to both the industry’s reputation as a whole and to the women who participate. That’s my two cents…what do you think?

This is why we have seen an explosion of nude picture mail messages in high schools and middle schools. It is also why more and more directors and turning towards high schools as fresh recruiting grounds for new and very pliable talent.

Like it or not…High School Seniors are the new College Freshman in the world of porn.

Where have all the condoms gone?

Although there are many types, flavors and brands of condoms out there, as demonstrated by “ceweberity” amateur YouTube sexpert Kicesie in this video, the porn industry as a whole (both on the consumer side and the production side) have gone away from condoms in more recent years.

In fact, most directors/producers won’t allow the actors on set to use condoms. They know that their fan base does not want to see condoms as it may “ruin” the fantasy. Unfortunately for many female porn stars, infections and STD’s are not a fantasy.

The problem with staying on the fringes of society is that eventually society catches up. Extreme becomes normal which means one must do something even more extreme to avoid being average. Here are just a few ways various companies are doing that. Warning: the following is not for those with a weak stomach, else you will end up like the woman in the above picture.

Cocktails: A series by Extreme 2.0 aka Extreme Associates and directed by Lizzy Borden. The main theme of this niche is forcing the female model to puke by extreme deepthroating as well as giving her an enema and then taking said liquid and forcing her to drink it and/or dump it all over her body.
Dog Dish Dump: Made popular by internet director/producer Duke Skywalker, he has the female model puke (due to extreme blowjobs) into a dog dish labeled “Stupid Whore” then after she has been ejaculated on by two or three men (normally rendering her eyes shut) he will have one of his male actors dump the vomit all over her. Whether to increase degradation and humiliation or simply for visual dynamicy, the external ejaculation has become a staple of most mainstream pornography.

Swallow/Mouth: Just under facials, this is the second most popular place for a man to ejaculate at the end of a scene. The man aims his penis at the woman’s mouth and ejaculates.
Spit/Mouth: Same as above, expect the actresses spits the ejaculation out.
Creampie/Vagina: This is a niche where the man ejaculates inside the woman’s vagina.

This basically entails what a director will have a model do with the semen once it is out. Here are a few examples (since literally it could be anything, I will limit this list to just a few things:

Cumplay:

Lotion: The director will have the model rub the semen on her face or breasts and apply it as if it were lotion.
Vacuum: The director will have the model suck the semen up (sometimes with a straw) from various surfaces such as plates, desks, the floor, off of another model, etc…

Once considered the prequel to actual sex, oral romance has taken the porn world by storm.

Oral sex is generally considered a sub-genre of hardcore, but oral itself can be broken down into several niches including:

Another important aspect of Oral Sex in porn is the position. Just as in movies that feature regular sex, the movie is separated by positions and is usually ended by the climax shot usually referred to as the “pop-shot” or “money-shot”.

Some popular positions for female-on-male oral sex include:

Knees-The typical oral sex position, with the woman on her knees and the man standing above her.
The Bow- A very submissive position where the woman is lying on her stomach and is usually wearing high heels (although not always). She is required to reach back with her hand and grab the corresponding heel (left to left, right to right) thus putting her in a “bow” which causes her hands to be occupied while her head is lifted and straight.

I will cover more about the money shot in a post later on entitled “Finishing Touches” . While the gagging scene certainly exploded in the mid 90’s, it is starting to cool off as audiences seek out a retro journey back to the days of sensual sucking.

What was once a romantic prelude to a sexual encounter has turned into what some deem a circus act that only has appeal because of his overt misogynistic tones.

Opponents of this genre say that while porn would have you believe that 90% of women participate in gag-style oral sex, the truth is this sub-niche is only practiced by a small portion of the population. In other words, the movies that feature oral sex in no way are an accurate reflection of a fecund, normal sexual lifestyle.

Most women who have seen such porn or have had a man try to put them in the “Max” position would most likely bite it off, so I wouldn’t recommend getting your ideas from Max Hardcore or Jim Powers.

“Read any good books lately"? Sometimes porn can take form of a novel or even a few steamy Penthouse billets-doux.

Now, I must correct my first post where I stated that porn was the graphic depiction of sex captured on film…I forgot about the good ole’ romance novel. While men do indeed read these novels, the vast majority of erotic-lit. consumers are women. So, as with all other genre’s, we must ask a few questions: Why women? Who writes this stuff? And what is the appeal?

Why women? Most erotic literature focuses on the romantic aspect of sex. Many times women are the primary focus of the sexual attention in these stories; her needs, emotions, desires and sexual pleasures are carefully described in intimate detail, usually from the point of view of a woman.

In the large majority of these books, women are the main character and frequently telling the story from a first-person perspective.

This is a stark contrast to most hardcore pornography on the market, which normally gives little or no attention to the basic needs and desires of the women in the film. Often times women are the subject of humiliation, objectification and degradation in the aforementioned films, but that is another post.

Woman, although somewhat visual in nature, tend to be far less visual than most men; consequently the vivid descriptions contained within the pages of a steaming piece of prose are enough to get their motors running. Most novels cater to both the emotional and physical desires of its reader.

Not surprisingly the vast majority of contemporary published romance novels tend to be women. It simply goes to reason that a woman would best understand the needs, desires, passions and inner-workings of other women. Nora Roberts is probably one of the best known sex-novel authors on the market today.

So, the question is…Should books, like movies and television shows have ratings? Like “Rated S” for steamy? sexy? saturated with sultry satire? You be the judge… until next time.

Hardcore v Softcore

So, what is the difference between softcore, semi-hardcore and hardcore? Well, for our purposes, here are the definitions of each…

Softcore- Shows simulated sexual acts without showing penetration or genitalia. The only form of nudity shown is bare breasts. No ejaculation nor ejaculatory fluids are shown.
Semi-Hardcore- Sometimes called “Hotel Hardcore” this is what is normally shown on hotel adult movie channels. Genitalia and penetration are shown, but usually no anal sex or other more hardcore forms of sex are shown. Usually ejaculation is hinted at but not shown.
Hardcore- Penetration is shown along with all forms of sex. Ejaculation or “the money shot” is usually built up as the climax of the film.

Softcore is mainly found on premium cable channels late at night. (especially Cinemax a.k.a. “Skin-A-Max”)

Back in the day you could also find edited B-flick Sexploration films with all the dirty stuff edited out on USA’s “up all night”. I am not sure if one could even call this softcore porn as it contained no nudity whatsoever and only simulated sex.

“Hotel Hardcore” is pretty self-explanatory, it is mainly featured in hotels chains as an “Adult Move option”. It is a huge part of the hotel in-move income (one source² says as much as two-thirds of all movies purchased are porn).

Hardcore is, however, the main staple of most porn consumers, especially those on the internet where a vast majority of porn is viewed and purchased. We will discuss more about hardcore porn later, including specific niches and trends within the hardcore genre.

Nude ≠ Porn

Just because something contains nudity does not mean it is pornographic.

For those who may not recognize the above photo, it is an ancient statue of a nude woman entitled "Venus De Milo”. It reveals the “form” of a woman by depicting her nude breasts and uncovered backside.

Think back to 5^th or 6^th grade health class when you first learned what the opposite sex’s reproductive organs looked like. Or perhaps a biology class when you first learned about anatomy. Would any of these be considered pornographic?

The answer is most definitely no. Nudity does not, nor will it ever, equal porn. Recently a famous Emmy award winning YouTube personality “Spricket24” did some artful nudes³ with a close photographer friend. Originally she said she would never “pull out her boobs for the whole world to see” ¹ but then when her friend approached her to do this art project, she agreed. She made a video explaining why she did it for all her fans².

My point is that, as with most things in life, it is all about intent, context and communication. What is the intent of the producer of the content? What is the context of the content? And what is the content attempting to communicate? Asking these three questions will usually help one determine whether or not they are looking at porn or art.

There is a growing (and for many disturbing) trend in the teen porn niche to take it a step further and dress their teen models to look very…very young.

So one then has to ask: Why is this such a popular thing to do in teen porn? If the girls in the movies are supposed to represent women over the age of 18, why are they acting like they are 12? And is it legal?

Well, to answer the latter question first: Yes. It is absolutely legal¹. The former question is a bit tougher to answer; some pornographers will say it is only fantasy, others say it is a way to push the first amendment whilst still others will say it appeals to their viewers. (i.e. “Don’t blame me, the viewers want it, I just give them what they ask for”).

I believe the very last answer is the most honest; when it comes to porn there is no doubt that money is the driving force behind everything that is done. If viewers didn’t demand that their 19 year old model be dressed up to look like a 13 year old (and behave as such), they wouldn’t produce such content.

And produce they shall. Just about every teen site or teen niche movie out there usually features at least one or two photosets or movies of the model in pigtails and licking a lollipop, sucking a popsicle or something similar. Often times the rooms and clothing will be brightly colored and filled with stuffed animals.

Like it or hate it, this “Bubble-Gum” style of pornography is a major hit amongst porn consumers and as long as they are continuing to pull out their…credit cards for this type of material, it will keep getting made.

Once again I reference famed super-extreme pornographer Max Hardcore; he got in trouble because in one of his shoots he had the model proclaim “But Mister, I am only 12 years old”² . Don’t worry, when we get to the “Extreme” genre we will cover Mr. Hardcore.

So, let’s start with the “Solo Girl” Genre. This genre comes in many forms and has many sub-niche’s, but the main crux of the site is focused on one girl, usually with a huge…personality

So, who does solo websites and why? What market are they after? And what types of models do they seek out? Well, firstly let us examine some of the solo-girl sub-genres:

Non-nude- Just like it sounds, a site with a girl who doesn’t actually get naked. Normally the model will be required to wear clothing that reveals all her sexual parts (such as mesh or wet white shirts) but she will never actually get fully naked.
Topless only- A girl who will show off the twins but nothing below the belt, the panties stay on.
Soft-nude- This is a girl who is willing to take off everything but doesn’t show any pink or any orifices below the belt.
Nude- The models on these sites get fully naked and show it all, leaving nothing to the imagination. (By far the most common type of solo girl site)
Hardcore- Not to be confused with the hardcore main genre, this sub-set of solo genre means the girl uses her fingers or toys to show or simulate masturbation.
Under 18- Obviously these sites are non-nude, but still feature models under the age of 18 in sexually provocative poses. As of March 2010, these sites are legal as long as there is no explicit nudity and the site promotes itself as a glamour site and not a pornography site. TrueTeenBabes is an example of this type of site.

So there you have it, those are the main sub-genres of solo girl sites. I could go on and on with even more sub-niches (Asian, Black, Big Breasted, Small Breasted, Teen, etc..) but for now the above definitions will serve our purpose.

The main types of models used in these sites are ones that are very young looking. Often times the models in these sites will never have worked anywhere before and may not have ever taken off their clothes in front of a camera before. These models also tend to be better looking than most hardcore models because of their “fresh, innocent look” as one webmaster put it.

The main demographic for these types of sites are usually older men (35+) and I use the word older because when compared to the demographic for hardcore sites that feature actual sex between two people it is around 16+

The main issues that many pornographers have with maintaining these types of sites are models moving on or getting out of the industry altogether. Also, while solo sites bring in a lot of money initially, many members of such sites grow tired of seeing the same girl take off her clothes; consequently, they do not renew their monthly memberships. Finally, many girls tend to take the initial payoff from doing a site like this and move on with their life.

A search on TheBestPorn, a pornographic review site, yielded 2,951 solo girl sites currently labeled as such. This places the Solo Girl niche third out of 101 niches listed. The reason it is such a popular niche is because many girls are willing to try this (that is get naked for cash) at least once. As infamous super-extreme pornographer Max Hardcore once wrote “The quickest way to separate a girl from her clothing is a camera.”

One major issue that many porn activists and even some of those in porn have with this niche is the “Popsicle and Pigtails” or Bubble-Gum style shoots that many girls do while making these sites. (although this issue is not specific to this niche alone)
