They were accompanied by Sally Ambrose, a member of Wimbledon’s Management Committee. 

The family was there to watch the Gentlemen’s Singles Final, with the world number one, Jannik Sinner of Italy, taking on Germany’s Alexander Zverev.  But before the match got underway, they spent time meeting those who make things happen at the Championships.

Sports fan Leo was born with sacral agenesis, a rare condition that affects the lower spine and legs. He started playing wheelchair tennis two years ago and is part of the LTA Under-14 National Age Group Programme (NAGP) which supports the development of promising junior wheelchair tennis players.

Prince William and Princess Kate were greeted by a standing and clapping crowd as they entered the royal box at the men’s singles final of the tennis championships in London on Sunday, July 12. Will and Kate smiled and waved as they arrived with two of their three children: Prince George, 12, and Princess Charlotte, 11.

And it was time for the match between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev.

For background on today’s match, we turn to this piece in the New York Times. 

There is little doubt as to whether Alexander Zverev enters the Wimbledon men’s final as the underdog. Zverev, 29, has not taken a set off Sinner in the last seven. The last time they played, at the Madrid Open final in May, it took Sinner less than an hour to shoo Zverev off the court in a 6-1, 6-2 rout that wasn’t even that close.

But as they prepare for their 15th career meeting Sunday on Wimbledon’s Centre Court, Zverev and Sinner’s rivalry has changed in one drastic way: they are both Grand Slam champions now.

Once again, it was warm at Centre Court, with a temperature around 85°. 

Prince George shared his portable fan with his father. 

The young Prince had his sister in stitches as he adjusted his hat. 

In this shot, you’ll see how many spectators are wearing the complimentary Panama hats with the signature green-and-purple ribbon, offered to those in the Royal Box when it is extremely warm, as it was today.

Below, you can see the ribbon in the Club colors on Princess Charlotte’s hat more clearly.The match lasted three hours and forty-six minutes, with Jannik Sinner winning another Wimbledon title.

The Italian repelled the three-hour, 46-minute all-out attack from Alexander Zverev to win 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4. This was Zverev at his strongest, his most aggressive and his most confident – this was a Zverev that Sinner had not faced before. Certainly not in a Grand Slam final. And still the champion held firm.

But on the other side of the net, Sinner was also back in the groove. Any hint of danger and he thumped his serve and batted the threat away. He was returning with increasing precision and he was defending as if his life depended upon it and then turning that defence into attack.

When he made the breakthrough for a 4-3 lead, he was heading for his 100th Grand Slam match win, a win that would ensure the Wimbledon title was his for another year.

And it was time for the trophy presentation. Below, the Princess greeting ball boys and girls on Centre Court.

Addressing the Centre Court crowd after his win, Sinner said there is “no better place to play tennis” than Wimbledon, spoke of the warm weather and paid tribute to the ball boys and ball girls.

He said: “There has been a couple of very, very warm days, no rain for the first time, which is amazing, but I would love to thank all the ball kids and ball boys for everything you do. You make our life on court as simple as possible, so thank you. Thanks (to the) whole organisation behind the scenes, this is truly the most special tournament we have throughout the year.”

Gesturing towards the royal box, Sinner said: “I never take these things for granted, playing in front of very, very special people throughout the whole couple of weeks – it has been amazing. And thanks for the support. You are always amazing to me, and you gave me the most special feeling a tennis player can ever feel like, so thank you so much.”

The Cup, which is made of silver gilt, stands 18 inches high and has a diameter of 7.5 inches. The inscription on the Cup reads: “The All England Lawn Tennis Club Single Handed Championship of the World”.

Around the bowl are engraved the dates and names of the champions.

In 2009, there being no space left to engrave the names of the champions, a black plinth with an ornamented silver band was designed to accompany the Cup.

Champions receive a three-quarter size replica of the Cup bearing the names of all past champions (height 13.5 inches).

Speaking after the match, Kate told Sinner it was “really inspiring” for George and Charlotte to watch tennis played at his level.

The royal congratulated the Italian sportsman on his victory, and said: “You’ve had such a fantastic tournament so really, really well done.”

Sinner asked George if he was still playing tennis, to which the 12-year-old responded: “Yeah, very much so.”

The princess told Sinner: “It’s really inspiring for the children to see tennis at that level.”

Now, for our look at what Kate wore on Day 14 of Wimbledon.

It very much appears to be a custom design by Emilia Wickstead. The fabric looks like the designer’s wool crepe, and today’s style has some elements from the Tidus Draped Wool Crepe Midi Dress, most notably the asymmetric cape-style sleeve that originates at the left side and sweeps up to her right shoulder. The Princess’s dress has a broader neckline and a short sleeve on her left side, and her skirt features princess seaming and a more fit-and-flare design than that seen in the Tidus.

We saw the return of the Nano Montreal Bag ($450) in the Deep Toffee Smooth finish by DeMellier London. The top-handle design measures roughly 7″ x 4.5″ and also features an adjustable, removable crossbody strap.

And her LK Bennett Saffron Straw Hat (no longer available as LK Bennett has closed), first worn at Wimbledon in 2022.

The Princess brought back one of her Halcyon Days bracelets, either the Maya Gold Torque Bracelet in aquamarine worn yesterday, or the Maya Torque Bangle in the Diamond colorway (clear stones). At this point, I am leaning toward the Diamond color.

Kate Middleton Styled reports Princess Charlotte was wearing Ray-Ban Kids Sunglasses ($86), and Royal British Fashion notes her bracelet is Ted Baker’s Isabella Icon Charm Bracelet ($85), while her dress remains unidentified.

She was at Wimbledon for the Ladies’ Singles Final between Linda Nosková and Karolína Muchová, both of the Czech Republic. But before that match got underway, she spent time meeting officials, players, and others involved in the Championships. Here you see the Princess with Sally Ambrose, a member of Wimbledon’s Management Committee.

Most readers will recall the Princess is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), a position she’s held since 2016, taking over the role from the late Queen Elizabeth II. Here you see her speaking with Shirley Rodriguez Yugsi, who performed the coin toss for the Ladies’ Singles Final. 

And here she is meeting Thea Stach, who did the coin toss for the Ladies’ Wheelchair Singles Final.

Bending down to speak to 12-year-old Thea, who uses a wheelchair and has cerebral palsy and autism, the Princess comforted her as she became overwhelmed.

Thea’s mother, Loi, said afterwards that the Princess had asked about what she had done that day and that “she loved Thea’s skirt, and that she wished that she had worn her [tennis] skirt too”.

Speaking about Thea’s emotional reaction to meeting the Princess, Loi added: “I think she’s a bit overwhelmed. I think the whole day has been so amazing…inside I know she’s really, really excited, but because it’s all so new and it’s all so big, I think she’s having trouble.”

The Princess spoke with current and former players. Here she is chatting with Ladies’ Doubles Finalists Gabriela Dabrowski of Canada and Luisa Stefani of Brazil.

While speaking to Gabriella “Gaby” Dabrowski, a Canadian pro who went through breast cancer treatment in 2024, the Princess told her she was “very inspirational”. 

She also told the tennis star that “what she loves about sport is that you can still prove that your body is strong”, even while going through cancer.

Speaking after their conversation, Dabrowski said: “In 2024 I went through breast cancer treatment, and I guess someone told her, because she acknowledged that and said it was amazing that I was still playing while going through treatment. “She said it was very inspirational … I feel the same about her story as well.”

We return to The Telegraph once more for details of their conversation.

 During their conversation, Catherine brought up the topic of ball boys and ball girls and said her son, Louis, eight, had been asking her questions about the role.

Ms Fontanilla, 18, said: “She told me about how Louis was asking her about how to become a ball boy, and we were talking about how much hard work it is to be on court and how we work alongside the ball kids, and it’s just so lovely.”

Describing Kate as “so genuine”, Ms Fontanilla, from Sutton, south London, said the princess put her at ease.

Here the Princess is seen speaking with Iranian-French former player Monsour Bahrami, known as “the Trick Shot King” by many.

Mr. Bahrami posted on his social media about the encounter. 

Then it was time to head to the Royal Box.

Nine singles titles, plus seven more in women’s doubles and four in mixed doubles. Ultimately, Ms. Nosková was victorious, defeating Ms. Muchová in three sets 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 to claim her first Grand Slam women’s singles title.

…with the Venus Rosewater Dish in her grasp, the 21-year-old was full of gratitude, running through a long list of the people in her life who made the moment possible, including her mother Ivana, who died two years ago.

“I definitely would not be standing here without her,” said Noskova, her voice wavering. Then she turned her eyes heavenward, and blew a kiss, adding: “So thank you.”

Already by then she had delivered the perfect speech of thanks, so difficult in victory when the vanquished is your good friend and doubles partner.

“It feels incredible,” she said, turning to her opponent with trademark Czech ironic humour. “Karo, you really made me work for this one… I will not forgive you. But I’m so glad I could play my first Grand Slam final against you. I congratulate you, such a fighter.

Now for our look at what Kate wore. 

We begin with the Roland Mouret Draped Peplum Midi Dress.

The dress is 100% wool (presumably a tropical weight), and it showcases the brand’s signature draping. The midi-length dress has a V-neckline, a fitted bodice, short sleeves, a structured peplum waist, self-belt, a flared skirt, removable shoulder pads, and a hidden back zipper. It is in stock on the Mouret UK site (£795, about $1070 at today’s exchange rates), but it does not appear to be available for shipping to the USA. The Princess brought back her Tusting Mini-Holly Handbag ($615). Made in England, the bag features a 1950s-inspired design with a flared shape and hidden side snaps, measuring about 9″ x 5″. The bag was first noted at a September 2021 engagement with the RAF.

The Princess also repeated her Gianvito Rossi ‘Ribbon’ Sling 85 Pumps in suede.

Prince William is competing in the Royal Charity Polo Cup at Guards Polo Club. This is the 15th time he has played in the annual event, which Kensington Palace said will take the total amount raised to £15 million ($20 million). Ten charities supported by William and Kate will divide the proceeds this year.

“To be one of the charities that benefits means that we are actually able to use that funding to make a real difference in our work to end homelessness,” Mick Clarke, CEO of homelessness charity The Passage told T&C. “The second point is that it’s raising the profile to quite a diverse crowd. It’s quite an international gathering in terms of people who are there…It’s much-needed income but it’s also raising wider awareness of the work that we and the other patronages do.”

Another charity benefitting from the funds for the first time is Wales children’s hospice Tŷ Hafan, which Kate was announced as Patron of last year. The organization supports around 300 children with life-shortening conditions and 3,000 family members each year.

“For us as a children’s hospice in Wales, we rely on a huge amount of our income coming not from statutory sources but from the generosity of the public in Wales and from other sources such as events like this, and we just simply couldn’t exist without those sources of income,” Tŷ Hafan Chief Executive Irfon Rees told T&C.

Now for our look at what Kate wore.

She chose a past-season Temperley London design, the brand’s Stirling Belted Gingham Jacquard Midi Dress, a style dating back to at least 2021. The vintage-inspired design is crafted from a blend of acetate and viscose, with a structured, fitted bodice, a squared neckline, and an A-line skirt. The piece also features a self-belt to define the waistline that the Princess wore tied in the back. UPDATE: With thanks to Tracy for her comment, it seems the dress dates back to 2019.

This was a fascinating choice, as Temperley had been a favorite of the Princess for years but had not been worn publicly for quite some time. Just yesterday, Alice Temperley, the brand’s founder, posted on social media that she was leaving the label.

The dress is getting a lot of play this week. Below you see Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter as they walked to their seats at Wimbledon on Tuesday.

The Princess repeated her Camilla Elphick ‘Lucia’ Tan Slingback Sandals (no longer available).

And her ‘Gabrielle Earrings’ (no longer available) from French retailer Sézane that were first worn at this same event in July 2022. The earrings are resin with gold-plated brass hardware.

She also brought back a pair of bracelets that included Sézane’s gold-plated Stéphanie Cuff (no longer available) and one of her Halcyon Days bracelets, most likely the ‘Maya’ Torque Bangle in the aquamarine ($217) variation.
