There were shouts of “hip hip hooray” as bride Sperling arrived along with her three bridesmaids, Phillips’ children Savannah, 15, and Isla, 14, as well as Sperling’s teenage daughter Georgina.

Phillips and Sperling began dating in 2024 after he split with his first wife, Autumn Kelly, in 2020. The pair’s engagement was announced in August last year.

This is the second marriage for both the bride and groom. We learn more from this Telegraph story. 

It has been just two years since the paediatric nurse, a devout Christian, made her public debut at the Badminton Horse Trials, hand in hand with her new beau, the Princess Royal’s 48-year-old son Peter Phillips. The pair had only recently met, through their daughters, at a local sports fixture in Gloucestershire, but it was immediately clear this was no fleeting romance.

And details about the ceremony come from this Hello article.

Her bridal bouquet, created by florist Millie Richardson, included sweet peas, myrtle – a tradition in Ms Sperling’s family and for the royal family – and lily of the valley.

She was walked down the aisle by her brother Nicholas Sanders, in honour of their late father Rupert Sanders. Her mother, Mary, was at the church, along with her sisters Rebecca and Louisa.

The bridesmaids’ headpieces were also made with Lily of the Valley.

The white column dress featured a square neck and a delicate lace overjacket fitted above the waist adorned with delicate wildflower embroidery across its long sleeves and sheer high neck, culminating in a captivating, almost 10 foot-long scallop-hemmed train.

“We aligned on something authentic, traditional, and modern,” the designer told British Vogue of the dress, which was crafted across several months and hundreds of hours of atelier work. It is imbued with personal symbolism and exquisite historical references: the lace pays tribute to the local florals where the bride and groom both grew up, and the train was inspired by a 19th century silhouette. As noted by Wickstead, the dress is made of Italian ivory crepe, which, while not so often seen in bridal designs, beautifully “moulds to the body.”

Her tiara and earrings are by Pragnell, the family-run London jeweler that designed her engagement ring.

This intricate tiara dazzles the eye by showcasing a design typical of both the Edwardian and Deco periods – which is very rare in all jewellery. Diamonds highlight a festoon of glittering laurel leaves and articulated floral motifs, bearing great resemblance to the tiara owned by The Princess Royal, in the official photograph celebrating her fiftieth birthday in 2000.

Favoured as a bridal headpiece and owned by the Pragnell family, this delicate tiara has been worn by generations of Pragnell family members and was present at the Coronation of both King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II.

The bride’s custom ivory satin heels are by Jimmy Choo.

Below, the Princess of Wales is partially sheltered by an umbrella her husband holds over her after the ceremony wrapped up. 

Now for a quick look at some of the ensembles worn by guests at today’s wedding, beginning with the Queen. She was in a cream ensemble by Anna Valentine with a scalloped coat atop a coordinating dress. 

The mother of the groom, seen below with her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence. The Princess Royal’s floral yellow dress dates back to 1986; it was topped by a gold jacket and cream shawl.

We learn details about the hat from The Telegraph’s column.

The hat is simple by royal standards but charming nevertheless with a slim but floppy brim with matching cord bow detail. Back in 1981, for the ceremony held at Windsor Castle, the Princess Royal, now 75, matched her yellow hat with a sweet strawberry printed dress.

The Duchess of Edinburgh wore Beulah London, the Yahvi Dress (a style the Princess of Wales has worn in green), with Prada pumps, a Jane Taylor hat, and a Sophie Habsburg bag.  

Zara Tindall wore a design by the Australian brand Rebecca Vallance, the label’s ‘Violeta’ Bow Midi Dress ($795) in Periwinkle Blue, accessorized with a Camilla Rose Millinery headband, an Anya Hindmarch clutch and Emmy London pumps.

Now for our look at what the Princess of Wales wore: a creamy tonal palette, beginning with the Roland Mouret Folded Collar Belted Bouclé Dress ($910, now sold out).

It is crafted from a boucle-knit (bouclé is a textured, nubby fabric) blend of polyester and acrylic. The dress features a faux-buttoning front, a folded collar with fringed trim, inverted pleats, belt loops and self-belt, slip pockets at the side seams, and a hidden back zipper. It is still available on the Roland Mouret site ($1100).

The Princess debuted a new boater-style hat by Jane Taylor London. The Hera Hat ($2217) showcases a bow worn in the back, by the Princess, and in the front on the milliner’s site. It is described as being “crafted from fine straw and elegantly trimmed with a luxurious Italian satin bow. Combining refined structure with feminine detail…this lightweight headpiece is secured with a discreet comb and hair-coloured elastic…”. Thank you to Laura and Kate Middleton Style for this ID.

We saw the return of the Rupert Sanderson Malory heels in kid leather (no longer available), with thanks to Middleton Maven for pointing this out. 

The Princess carried her Forever New Lily Woven Clutch made of vegan-certified material with gold-tone hardware.

The Princess repeated her Kiki McDonough Morganite Earrings and triple-strand Nigel Milne pearl bracelet. The earrings were first noted at the 2017 wedding of the Princess’s sister, Pippa Middleton, and James Matthews. The bracelet originally belonged to the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

The Princess also wore a necklace that we’ve not seen before. Carly at Kate Middleton Style notes its similarity to Kiki McDonough’s ‘Grace’ necklace, which showcases a round-cut white topaz gemstone surrounded by a diamond halo. The version online is shown on a chain with diamond spacers, and the Princess’s chain is plain without any adornment or embellishment. I think this is a good possibility. 

I will leave you with one more photo of the bride and groom as they left the church and headed to their reception at Gatcombe Park, Princess Anne’s estate.

The center is the largest single-site cancer center in Europe and the first in the UK to be accredited as a comprehensive cancer center. The organization notes on its website that it “serves a population of 3.2 million people from Greater Manchester and the surrounding areas.  

The Princess started her visit at the Oak Road Treatment Center, where she met patients undergoing chemotherapy. As many readers will recall, the Princess received chemotherapy for an undisclosed form of cancer and revealed she was in remission in January 2025.

Speaking to a patients Kate said: “Sorry to bring so many people down, I know it’s a very personal time. How are you?”

Speaking to a patient, Kate said: “How are you managing? What the human body can put up with is amazing.”

When one patient said he “couldn’t have done it without the support of my wife”, Kate replied: “I was just saying, it’s hard for the loved ones.”

She added: “You need to support yourself alongside all the things you can’t control. Your body changes so much, not just physically emotionally, the deeper side of ourselves.”

“They’re doing the work alongside the chemo here; and we want to celebrate that – they do an incredible job. It’s so hard, it’s so hard for the families. It puts so much in perspective and you hold onto what’s important.”

The Princess was at the Christie to learn more about the healing power of holistic therapies, alongside clinical care, for people living with and beyond cancer.  After seeing the patients receiving chemotherapy, she visited the center’s art room.

People’s article notes that she “…joined an art session with patients there, hearing about how creative expression has helped their recoveries.”

The art room extends into the wellbeing garden, which the Princess visited.

…[she spent] time with gardener Phil Walker to understand how the well-being garden provides patients and staff with the chance to pause and reflect. Prince William’s wife has previously said that she found solace in the outdoors during her cancer journey and described nature as her family’s “sanctuary” during the difficult time. 

The Princess’s next stop was the Teenage and Young Adult Unit, where she met staff, young patients , and their families. Here you see her with 10-year-old Ruby Day, who is receiving treatment at the center.

In a story on the Christie’s website, the hospital reports that while at the Teenage and Young Adult Unit, the Princess learned “…about the social and recreational activities designed to support young people as they navigate an especially challenging time.”

The Princess also met a patient who was finishing her treatment today. Below, Claire Lorente, age 30, and her husband Pablo, as she rings the bell signifying the end of her treatment for breast cancer.

We return one more time to Matt Wilkinson’s story in The Sun. 

The pair hugged and Claire became emotional as they celebrated the milestone.

Kate held her arm and said to her: “Well done, well done you. What a journey. Well done, you’ve been amazing.” Turning to Claire’s husband Pablo, 30, Kate said: “Well done. I know, it’s just as hard for family and loved ones. For the children, my parents alongside. You go through it with us.”

Claire said afterwards: “It was very overwhelming finishing the treatment itself was a massive thing so obviously sharing with the Princess was overwhelming but absolutely brilliant at the same time.

“She asked me how long treatment had been going and said how far I’ve come.

“My journey is not over but feels like I’ve finished a part of it and feels like I’ve come so far.

After the women spoke, it was time for a hug. 

“It was an amazing lifetime thing to share it with her and I’m never going to get to do it again.

“I don’t think anyone else will experience what I experienced with her.

“It was such a special moment with my friends and family and never going to forget it. It was an amazing moment.”

Now for our look at what Kate wore today, starting with her Eponine London Chi Chi coatdress in “London Blue.”

From the S/S 2020 collection, the “Chi Chi” is a tailored midi-length coatdress featuring a wrap front, a V-neck, pleated shoulders, and belt detailing. Some may remember that blue and white are the colors of the NHS (National Health Service). The piece was first worn at COP26 engagements in Glasgow in November 2021.

The Princess also owns this design in a rich burgundy color. Sadly, the label is now closed. Founder and designer Jet Shenkman announced last October that the AW 2025 collection would be Eponine’s last. Below, the designer in an Instagram photo. 

The Princess did not carry a handbag, and she repeated her Gianvito Rossi Praline pumps in the 85mm (3.5″) heel height.

The Princess brought back Vanleles earrings that were first worn at a May 2022 engagement in Manchester. The earrings’ symbol holds special significance for Mancunians, as they feature a bee, Manchester’s symbol. The bee charms are suspended from the jeweler’s Nile Yellow Gold Small Hoops (no longer available online). The bespoke bees are crafted in yellow gold with diamonds, blue sapphires, and enamel. The Princess wore the earrings without the honeycomb today. The photo on the far right below shows them as originally worn in 2022.

The bee is a significant symbol for Manchester, representing the city’s resilience, community and its people’s work ethic. Founded by Vania Leles, Vanleles merges cultural significance and its African roots with modern charms and designs…

Many readers will recall that the Princess announced she was in remission from cancer in early 2025. The King continues to receive treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.

As noted in a Buckingham Palace news release, “…Cancer Research has helped to transform how cancer is understood, prevented, detected and treated. This progress has contributed to a doubling of cancer survival in the UK over the past 50 years, and today 8 in 10 people who receive cancer drugs in the UK receive a drug developed by or with Cancer Research UK.” Below, the Princess with TV presenter Davina McCall.

Davina McCall who is in attendance at the event said her exchange with the Princess of Wales was “really wonderful”.

Ms McCall said: “I can’t imagine what it must be like having gone through something like cancer, and then sort of having to tell people about it, when possibly it would have been much easier and nicer to not have to share it with the world.” 

Ms McCall underwent surgery in 2024 to remove a benign brain tumour. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in October last year and had surgery to remove a lump but said in April that she had now received the “all clear”.

I believe the Princess is speaking with Sebastian Bowen in this photo; Mr. Bowen lost his wife, Dame Deborah James, to bowel cancer in 2022.

Rebecca English shares details in this Daily Mail piece. 

Her husband Sebastian Bowen told the Princess: ‘I’ve been thinking about you guys a lot’.

Catherine praised Deborah for the ‘impact of her work’ and listened intently as Mr Bowen told her how it had been ‘bittersweet’ to smash fundraising targets for research and clinical trials into the disease that his wife had dreamed of achieving.

He also appeared to thank William for a sympathetic conversation he apparently had with the couple’s two children. The princess replied: ‘He’s good like that.’

Mr Bowen said afterwards: ‘I told her I was incredibly touched that they as a family had been so supportive and thought about them all the time.

We learn more from Hello’s story. 

Hannah Fry revealed she discussed the King’s supportive message for the Stand Up to Cancer campaign, which aired in December.

“We spoke about what a massive difference that made to have somebody like him who has been through it and survived cancer and had the same experience as so many people across the country,” she said.

“But I think on a more personal level, as someone who’s had cancer, I know he’s had cancer too, I know the princess has also come through her own cancer journey, I think that there is something really profound about a family who are, you know, at the very top of society, who are going through the same ordeals as the rest of us.

Now we turn to our look at what Kate wore, Rodarte’s Heart-Printed Silk Twill Dress (originally $1765, now $1412).

The design showcases tiny white polka dots and white hearts atop a red background. The midi-length dress is 100% silk with a white silk crepe de chine notched collar and band cuffs accented with a red button. The puffed shoulders descend from lightly padded shoulders; there is a dropped waist described online as a “yoked circle skirt,” and a self-belt covers the elasticized waist.

Here is a closer look at some of the details, including the detachable silk flower.

The style is also available in black and red with hearts, and in pink polka dots and in brown polka dots, the latter two options minus the heart print.

Rodarte is a new label for the Princess, one we’ve not seen her wear at a public engagement before. For those unfamiliar with the brand, it is a California-based label founded in 2005 by Kate and Laura Mulleavy—more on this in this Couture Notebook piece. 

The Mulleavys studied at the University of California at Berkeley, graduating in 2001, Kate focused on art history with an emphasis on the 19th and 20th centuries, while Laura studied literature and the Modern novel. But they turned to fashion, picking their mother’s maiden name for their label.

Moda Operandi notes, “The label translates cinematic fantasy and nostalgic references into delicate collections. The Mulleavys are revered for their extraordinary handwork, intricate layering, and use of custom materials—every piece is an investment in wearable art and emotional storytelling.”

We saw the return of the Princess’s red Miu Miu handbag.

And her Gianvito Rossi 105 suede pumps ($850).
