What I Did

So this is pretty much what I actually made it to… I think i did alot for 7 days that I was there.

::Day::
8th - Life & Death @ Canibal Royale
9th - After’s at the condo , Jacuzzi, Chill, Sleep
10th - Luciano @ Coco Maya Upstairs
11th - Culprit VS Leftroom @ Mamitas
12th - ADID @ Mamita's
13th - Xel-Ha Water Park
14th - Papaya Playa

: Night :
8th - Hanging out @ Friend's Jacuzzi
9th - Hot Creation @ Coco Maya
10th - Dj Harvey @ Santanera
11th - Dixon @ Coco Maya
12th - Rebel Rave @ Blue Vendao and Super Freq @ Santanera
13th - Shopping on 5ta Ave and Tulum
14th - Touch of Class in Tulum

What I Missed

I missed a bunch of stuff, but at some point you realize that you really can’t
do it all.

I regret not going to the Robot Heart Villa Party, but it’s OK, because Some how after Hot Creations we got suck into after hours in the upstairs patio of Coco Maya, we were mooching off some Mexican guy’s bottle whom we nicknamed “El Capitan”. While Luciano was surprisingly not playing the “Mariachi Latino Techno” as he usually does at WMC. So on the plus side, we got to chill with some cool locals and it was BP-freetime.

"El Capitan" our sponsor that morning on the far left.

I’m also sad I missed the Verboten villa afterparty. I hear it was by far the sickest villa in town. I got to hand it to Verboten – they know how to travel in style for sure.

My Favs

Dixon #1

By far my favorite set of the entire BPM week was Dixon. So there’s Dixon
and everyone else pretending to DJ. He’s in a league of his own and looks
prim and proper doing it with his button up t-shirt dropping Tiga - Plush (Ame remix)
that go like this… “I don’t need a CALCULATOR… to tell me I’m going to see
you later” So we are dancing our asses off and we look to the table on the
left of us and wouldn’t you know it! There’s an old-school solar-powered
calculator. Really?!? Another WTF moment – like: where did that come from?

Innervisions was great from beginning to end. Larry did a great job opening,
playing some of his own productions. The transitions from one artist to the
next were cohesive and musically it all made sense as a whole.

Other highlights
Culprit vs. Leftroom @ Mamitas – Jozif and Droog, and everyone else was on point too actually
Rebel Rave @ Blue Venado
Touch of Class @ Tulum Ruins – Jonny Cruz is a rising star, keep a close eye on this guy
ADID @ Mamitas – Lee Bu always goes out of his way to make any venue look amazing, true production value
Going to Papaya Playa Project in Tulum
Hot Creations @ Coco Maya – Anabel singing live was pretty dope, girl is on fire.

What I liked about BPM

Ahhhhh…. beautiful sunrises and sunsets by the beach! Music beach side – that’s the best
that BPM has to offer. I like basking in the sun and going from disco to disco
what’s not to like really.

You can really go at your own pace during BPM. You can chill and do things
outside the festival and believe me – there is a lot to do. Or you can just stick
to party mode.

Playa del Carmen has so much to offer: beaches; food; Mayan Ruins;
adventure water parks (Xplor , Xel-ha, Excaret); and spas. When you
combine all this with a background of good music, you’re bound to have a
good time.

Playa del Carmen is really close to Tulum, and if you make it to BPM visiting Tulum is a must. Decompression zone in Tulum! I'll get more into Tulum later on.

The BPM Dancers get a big shout out those guys were hilarious, running around with the GAINT LETTERS ON THERE HEADS, popping out at you when you were the most drunk or high or who knows what. Adding to a very festive vibe.

MORE TO BE CONTINUED...

Hmmm? a festival in Paris... sounds very tempting. It happens to be the first electronic music festival in Paris. Below is a rough translation I grabbed it from there Facebook page.

ARTIST - JUST BE

TITLE - AFTER THE STORM

LABEL - GET PHYSICAL MUSIC

RELEASE DATE - 21ST JANUARY 2013

JUST BE KICKS OFF 2013 WITH A NEW RELEASE ON GET PHYSICAL MUSIC TITLED ‘AFTER THE STORM’

Just Be – the new solo project of Matthew Bushwacka - steps into the fold for the illustrious Get Physical Music with ‘After The Storm’. Due for release on 21st January 2013, the new single also features a deeper mix, and additionally a B-side also called ‘'Out Of The System'. The release is also accompanied by a video that focuses on contemporary dance and explores themes such as disability discrimination, personal triumph and acceptance.

‘After The Storm’ continues the new musical path that Matthew is currently on with his new Just Be project, whilst still retaining the certain special characteristics in Matthew’s music that contributed to Layo & Bushwacka’s previous success. The title track bursts open with bright percussion, paving the way for a long build up filled with effective ambient elements to set the mood perfectly. Everything comes together when a rhythmic synth creeps up on us, setting the track on fire.

The Deep Mix demonstrates Matt’s ability to approach tracks from a different reference point, and provides a different kind of warmth to an already engrossing track. A journey into 'dreamier' soundscape, this one will is sure to provide ethereal moments for listeners both at home and in the club.

'Out of the System' is another percussive wonder and its bouncy beat keeps driving towards the track’s infectious crescendo. An energetic track that is sure to provide the soundtrack to many peak moments over the coming months.

As mentioned, to accompany the release Frogspawn Creative have produced a video for ‘After The Storm’. Following the story of a deaf dancer who is mocked by her peers at an audition, the performer then wow’s them with a stunning contemporary ballet routine. The dancer is still able to enjoy music via physical vibrations, and this phenomenon is based on the director’s personal experiences of a deaf University friend who used to enjoy clubbing on a regular basis. Former West-End choreographer Penelope Schmidt-Uili and deaf advisor and performer Jacob Casselden were consulted on the video to make ensure that dancer Emily Spriggs created a realistic and truthful performance.

Tracklist:

A1 - After The Storm – Original Mix

A2 - After The Storm – Deep Mix

B1 - Out of the System

If your planning on attending BPM Festival in the future its a great read. Check it out on NYmag.com. Tons off the grid info, everything from where to stay, where to eat, where to shop, and most importantly where to have fun.

My favorite recommendation was the "Odd Ball Day" which included releasing your toxins at Maroma Resort’s Kinan Spa and eating a Mexican tapas dinner at Indigo Beach.
5 YEARS DESOLAT- 2012

LABEL – DESOLAT

RELEASE DATE – 04.02.2013

FORMAT - 2x12” / digital

CAT. NUMBER - DESOLAT 025 // DESOLAT MIX001

DESOLAT CELEBRATE THEIR 5TH ANNIVERSARY WITH A VERY SPECIAL EDITION OF THEIR ANNUAL LABEL SAMPLER

As we fast approach the end of 2012, Desolat announce the release of their annual sampler. Due for release in Feb 2013 this edition not only sees artists from the Desolat family turn in exclusive tracks, but also sees Loco Dice supply a mix packed with the brand new productions from the 2x12”, plus a few special extras.

It has been another successful year for the Desolat camp. An impressive release schedule that included DJ Sneak, Basti Grub, Aldo Cadiz, Francisco Allendes & Paola Poletto, and Shlomi Aber all putting out killer releases. As always, the annual sampler sees those artists at the core of the Desolat camp turn in exclusive tracks, and the 5th year anniversary edition delivers a selection for the landmark year.

Loco Dice’s "Lolopopinho" picks up where his recent "Toxic" EP left off: a groovy energetic whirlwind production that takes the listener on a head spinning journey into the recesses of the label bosses club-orientated mind. Shlomi Aber’s "Mancha" features a sublime bouncing bassline, whilst Yaya weighs in with a track that nods to a fantastically bright future.

The latest talent to emerge from the highly respected Romanian scene is Horatio. His track "How Much 909 Can You Take?" serves up a warbling aural assault that will easily get feet stomping. Lucero en Vivo’s "La France" first surfaced in 2010 when it caused a stir on Dice’s Amnesia Ibiza Underground 10 mix CD. A welcome addition to the sampler and finally getting the full release it deserves! The young blood of Desolat is rounded of by Alexkid’s ethereal "Enty" which provides some moodiness to proceedings.

And of course the mainstays of the label have also turned in impressive productions. Hector’s "Amorphous Mass" displays the dark depths of the Desolat vaults, whilst the first lady of Desolat tINI turns in a warm intricate release in "Room 305"

And as if that was not enough, all of these tracks feature on the special addition mix from Loco Dice, and will be available for individual download. The mix also comprises an additional seven exclusive tracks from the likes of Basti Grub, Alli Borem, Francisco Allendes, Premiesku, Alli Borem, Benny Rodrigues and Desolat favourite Guti. The mix highlights the consistent musical thread that runs through much of Desolat’s output, and is compiled with Dice’s signature sound.

"One New Year's resolution you should make, however, is to attend BPM Festival, returning on 4th January to the gloriously tropical climes of Mexico's stunning coastline region, Playa Del Carmen, for its sixth edition... Originally conceived as the industry's chance to escape the grind of constant travelling and endless late nights, by offering a series of beachside parties in paradise with plenty of downtime, its evolved into a fully-fledged festival bearing possibly the longest line-up of underground dance talent we've ever laid eyes on each year. It's only getting bigger, too." -- DJ Mag

Are you wishing you had a clone? I've been in this position before and it's kinda overwhelming, especially if it's your first year going to Detroit during Movement festival.

Here are my recommendations; parties I'm really looking forward to, parties guaranteed to have great TECHNO and the ones that are just hard to pass up because they're what Detroit techno is all about: celebrating its sound, its talent and its roots.

Friday May 25th

Bang Tech 12 Sixteenth Anniversary Party @ Bookies Bar & Grill
2208 Cass Ave, Detroit. 3pm - 2 am
Our friends from the Detroit Techno Militia are throwing their annual anniversary party for their booking agency Bang Tech 12 to start the DEMF weekend in style: with some no-bullshit techno. With a huge lineup of DJs (a lot of Detroit locals and it also includes several names from states like Ohio, Indiana, Florida and Tennessee), this friendly bunch makes it even more friendly: it's free. If you have seen Seoul and Linder at the festival in 2010 or the DTM 5x5 last year, you know the Militia won't fuck around.
You can find more info about the Bang Tech party HERE.

Smart Bar Movement Opening BBQ @ TV Bar
2548 Grand River Ave, Detroit. 10 pm - 4 am
Chicago's Smart Bar is bringing in Detroit exclusives Prosumer and Orchard Lounge to play with Kate Simko along with local Detroit talent. I'm recommending this, well, because Prosumer is playing and he is not to be missed.

Saturday May 26th

CLR @ Elysium Lounge
625 Shelby St, Detroit. 10 pm - 4 am
Chris Liebing. Speedy J. Tommy Four Seven. Drumcell. If these names alone don't get a reaction from you, there's something wrong with you.
431 East Congress St, Detroit. 10 pm - 4 am
Kevin Saunderson put together what that looks to be the most anticipated party for the weekend. With all four creators of techno on one stage PLUS Ben Sims and Carl Craig's 69 live show, the lineup also includes Detroit Techno allstars like Blake Baxter, Stacey Pullen, Buzz Goree, Mike Huckaby and Kenny Larkin just to name a few to be spread out in three floors. This one is the NOT-TO-BE-MISSED party.
1846 Michigan Ave, Detroit. 10 pm - 7 am
Blank Code and Droid are teaming up to have some of the most serious techno this weekend. With acts like DVS1, Cell Injection (Drumcell + Audio Injection), Raiz, Luis Flores, Kyle Geiger and Project 313, this is the go-to party for the deeper, harder techno heads. Do not miss Corbin Davis! Got a chance to check him out this past weekend and he blew my mind.
A note from Decibel Festival

In 2003, I founded Decibel Festival with the mission to redefine underground electronic music and visual art as a unified performance medium, while establishing the Pacific Northwest as a vital hub for electronic music culture in the United States. At the time, "laptop performance" was still shrouded in mystery and most electronic music performance consisted of turntables, CDJs, and a mixer. Electronic music in America had receded from the rave boom back to small communities of loyalists caring more about the music itself than its potential to generate revenue or fan base. This has been the community that has supported Decibel from day one and I'm thrilled they are still at the heart of Decibel today.

Fast forward to 10 years and electronic music is pervasive in nearly every facet of mainstream American culture and we continue to have mixed emotions regarding this surge. As avid supporters, performers, producers, and fans of electronic music for over 20 years, we can't help but feel nostalgic for a time when underground warehouse parties and independent record stores were the predominant outlet for electronic music discovery.

As much as the digital age has brought many advantages, it's important to remember how we got here and what it means. It's a balance between technology and creativity; innovation and nostalgia; popularity and obscurity. With each year I hope to build a program that encompasses all of these elements while retaining the integrity of a festival known for pushing the boundaries of both art and science.

Looking at our continued growth from our inaugural festival of 2,500 attendees in 2004 to 23,000+ attendees in 2011, I am faced with the challenge of assembling a compelling program that captures our past, present, and future. Although we're only mid-way through announcing this year's line-up, I believe that 2012 will be our most ambitious program. Based on the initial list of artists below we already have our most diverse program to date. This includes a strong international presence with 19 countries represented as well as 25% of the line-up featuring female artists, which is a historically high number based on other electronic music festivals. In addition, Decibel is continuing to embrace a wide spectrum of genres, venues, and activities designed to entertain, educate, and inspire attendees regardless of age or background. 2012 festival pass holders will be treated to 34 audio/visual showcases, an outdoor event, a three-day conference, and a film festival. In addition, Decibel will be co-curating and co-producing eight after-parties and five boat-parties, none of which will conflict with the festival schedule. As you begin to look at what we have in store this year, I encourage you all to dig deep into our new website and explore a festival filled with discovery, decadence, beauty, emotion, and unbridled entertainment start to finish.

Much more to come. Hope to see you in September!

In addition offering some immediate gratification, we hope to reward those who purchase passes early with a discounted rate (25% off through June 26th). As for the dB Conference, the individuals showcases, film festival, after-parties and boat-parties; we'll be announcing the entire program on July 11th.

Those that know me know I'm GLUED to several sites and message boards since around February every year to find out what is going on as soon as parties are announced. I put together a list of everything that goes on in Detroit during Movement weekend that I share on a message board with everyone; it's my thing. I even include some suggestions and tips for the DEMF first-timers. I book my hotel in December or January just to make sure I get the best options. This is my Techno Christmas.

Of all the afterparties announced so far, I have to say that the one I'm the most excited about is Interface 36 / Scene 04, a collaboration between Blank Code and Droid Behavior taking place on Sunday May 27th at The Works. The lineup is stellar, including Droid artists Drumcell and Audio Injection playing together as Cell Injection, the Vargas brothers also known as Raiz, DVS1, Luis Flores from Mexico (who recently wowed me with his CLR podcast a couple of months ago) and Kyle Geiger along with many Blank Code regulars. I am also glad to see Jeff Derringer in the lineup, who is the resident DJ and one of the masterminds behind Oktave, a monthly party in Chicago and NYC bringing a deeper and more abstract flavor of techno. Tickets are on sale and very limited at blankcode.com/tickets. You can find more info on the event here: www.facebook.com/events/184754594970881/

Techno favorites Chris Liebing and company are hosting a CLR showcase in Detroit for the second year in a row at Elysium on Saturday the 26th. Lineup includes Chris Liebing & Speedy J (Collabs), Tommy Four Seven and Drumcell, with more names to be announced. Early bird tickets are on sale on RA: www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?357705

Gary Springs Hunting Club is back this year with the third edition of Shit Show, taking place at a new venue, Waterfalls, on Sunday the 27th from 7 am until 7 pm. This year they have teamed up with the 'As You Like It' crew from San Francisco. Their lineup includes Detroit exclusives Kollektiv Trumstrasse (who I highly recommend catching) and Rich Korach. Ryan Crosson, DJ Three plus more to be announced. He goes on to say, "So when are you (speaking to the Metro Times Detroit's Facebookpage) going to finally to on the complete harassment of the DPD and the total abuse of power towards all dance parties in this City? I think it's an issue that needs to be discussed considering it takes 5 hours for a police officer top show up if i call them in an emergency, yet 20 cops come to Jumbos, a legal establishment at 2:02 AM on a Friday night and hearten to beat up its patron and find every way to find anything illegal going on, which they did not. It's a waste of tax payers money to say the least, and keeping away people coming to our city to spend money to have a good time, all to go back to the suburbs with a bad taste in their mouth. Its a sad stat. We all know its "easy money" for them to come raid an event of usually 200 - 400 people, with 20+ DPD deep, to issue about 5 or 6 MIP tickets, but this is ridiculous. After selling out for the last five years, the ADE is regarded as one of the highlights of the annual international dance and electronic music calendar. Thanks to the fact of being both a major festival of electronic music as well as a business platform for the international music industry, the event is widely considered to be an important indicator of the health of the electronic music scene.

Event organiser the Amsterdam Dance Event Foundation expects that the five day event will once again attract more than 140,000 festival-goers and 3,000 conference delegates from 62 countries. "Two years ago we included the Wednesday in order to accommodate a growing list of conferences and parties, and in 2012 - because there are now so many events throughout the whole of the weekend - Sunday is now officially included in the ADE dates,” Richard Zijlma, ADE Director, said. The 2011 Sunday schedule included amongst others Visionquest at Trouw, Moon Harbour & secretsundaze, Wicked Jazz Sounds and the Melkweg After Party.

ADE 2012 will also feature expanded versions of the ADE University (aimed at inspiring and educating students and young music industry professionals) and ADE Playground (showcasing technology and technological innovation), both of which were introduced in 2011 to widespread acclaim, as well as improvements and new developments for the Hard Dance Event (HDE), Music and Bits and ADE Next.

Each year 3,000+ artists, A&R managers, journalists, label representatives, booking agents, producers and music publishers from around the world gather in Amsterdam to do business, network, discover new talent and keep up to date on the latest technological and legislative developments. The 140,000+ festival visitors - including approximately 30,000 tourists - fill the city's venues for a wide range of shows and events featuring the very best national and international artists. The 2011 edition of the ADE staged a record 220 events in 52 venues across the city, with a total of over 800 DJs and acts performing.

The Amsterdam Dance Event 2012 will take place on October 17 to 21. The key is try to keep things as low maintenance as possible, while still looking nice. Below are some ideas and suggestions on girls stuff for Burning Man.

Hair

Rule of thumb stick to what’s easiest for you at home.

Wigs are great for the night. Not only do they protect your real hair from getting sandy, but they also keep your head warm from cold playa nights. During the day it can be very hot. For some it might be too hot for wigs, so as long as you’re comfortable you can wear a wig.

Braids are a great option for playa. They are

Playa is not the time to be crimping and curling. You do not want to spend a lot of time on your hair while at burning man.

Fun hair accessories, big flowers, clip on feathers and colored hair extensions

After 3 days your hair will be crispy from all the sand.

You will need heavy conditioner and various shampoos once you get back from Burning Man.

When you finally was your hair Do a light vinegar rinse, this will help get rig of playa sand and protect it the alkaline.

Makeup

Bright colored lipstick is great looks better in pictures too

Sparkly eye make up

Bright eye shadows

Big fake eyelashes, i find them annoying to wear but alot of girls had them on and they look great.

Check out Xotic Eyes and Violent Lips makeup one time applique solutions. Paste and go.

Warpaint and Tribal style

Over the top

Try All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray by Urban Decay. It should help your make up last a little bit longer.

Nails

If you can afford to spend $30 on a manicure suggest getting Shellac or similar gel nail manicure. This type of manicure lasts up to two weeks with no chips. I tested it last year and it worked great.

Your nails are going to chip regardless of what you do, so iether bring some remover or adopt an "I don't care attitude"

Crackle polish

Glitter polish

Fun designs

Palyawear, Burning Man Fashions

Stay away from garments the will spread MOOP.

Anything goes, in term of playa wear you can really get a way with anything so be fun and creative.

Small backpacks or fanny pack, cross body bags, its good to have different size bags depending how long you will be out of you home base.

Hats to protect you from the sun, big floppy ones, or cowboy style

Faux colored fur it’s a Playa must have.

Parasols make great accessories and they help protect you from the sun

My criteria for shop

Head dresses

Masks

Its not halloween so I don't suggest full costumes, but if you peace together pieces of different costumes that works!

Bikini tops

Mesh

Colorful fun printed leggings and stockings, great for night time

Tank tops, tube tops, no tops

Shorts

Sequins

Someday you might not feel like fully dressing up or making your outfit a production, bring some regular clothes.

A lady will always carry with her...

Portable ashtray if you smoke

Small mirror

Lip gloss or chap stick, colored chap stick

Roll on perfume or travel body spray

Travel Size baby wipes useful for everything.

Hand cream, hands ten to get dry, and not just any hand cream but the higher the concentration of Shea butter the better.

This is apart from your essentials, dust mask, head lamp, lights ect.

Feminine wipes

Condoms

Breath mints, gum, or those tiny disposable tooth brushes

Hand held folding fan, keep your self cool.

Sun glasses

Coolest Burner Bikes Ever?

A cool collection of Burning Man dream bikes.

Bright Bike
http://www.thebritebike.com/

EL Wire Bike

Monkeylectric Bikes

http://store.monkeylectric.com/

Parker Brothers Tron Legacy Bike - Part 2

PART 2 - Let’s Talk Logistics, first time RVing

How to get you and all your CRAP from point A to point Burning Man? How and when too book everything. This is how we did it, you can learn from our mistakes.

We booked an RV from San Francisco, made the bulk of our purchases in Reno.

I pretty much did things in the following order and it worked out well:
1. Book RV
2. Buy Burning Man Ticket
3. Buy Airfare
4. Pick up RV in San Francisco
5. Buy Supplies in Reno + Bikes (will talk more about this in Part 3: Collecting your Harvest)

But you don’t know anything about camping and you still want to go Burning Man? Have no fear. Who can blame you? Get and RV and join a camp. This will make you life easier your camp will help you get organized. Some camps provide meals and build showers. This is what camp dues are for, to build stuff for your camp like light up dance floors and provide food and comfort in a hostile environment.

When is the time to Book your RV? Where?
If your asking this question then probably you’re already too late, prices for booking an RV go up the closer you get to BM dates. So the time to book the RV is NOW! Before December you can get the best prices. Start doing your research right after this years BM is over to book for next year.

MISTAKE – Not Booking an RV early. Rule of thumb the sooner you can book your RV for Burning Man, the better.

The closer you are to Reno the more expensive it will be. So for a couple of hours drive from San Francisco or Sacramento, you can SAVE a lot of money.

What are the costs? Is booking an RV going to cost me an arm and a leg.

That depends on the size of RV and pick up location. Average RV cost not out of Reno is $2,700 for an RV that can accommodate 4 or 5 adults. Prices range $1,500 - $6,000+ so be smart about booking. So about $500 - 800 per person (in a vehicle for 5+ people), should cover RV and gas cost, for the length of the trip. Gas cost was actually less than expected. To fill up our is was about $120 to fill the RV, we filled up 3 or 4 times.

To book an RV you only need a credit card and a partial deposit. Worry about the rest of the money later on when you’re required to pay in full. Rules on payment vary from company to company. Read and ask questions before booking. Also expect to pay extra fee because of BM.

MISTAKE – Trying to fool the RV rental place, by saying your not taking it to Burning Man. They been doing this for years, they know. The dust gets everywhere including the motor. It’s impossible to get off. They’ll know. You’ll end up forfeiting the deposit or paying extra.

The extra insurance we got saved our asses. Get whatever extra coverage you can. I our case we went over a curb, and it made a slight damage to the wheel well. We paid $75, versus $300-$400 to fix with out the insurance.

MISTAKE – Not getting the insurance.

Is the convenience package REALLY worth it? What the hell is a convenience kit anyways? How many kits should I get?
Most RV companies off a kit called the convenience kit. It brings a fair amount of stuff your going to need. Fees for the kits are $50 or more per kit.

Kits include:
• Pots & pans
• Cooking Tools – Yes! It comes with can opener
• Silverware, dinnerware and glassware
• Pillows and blankets
• Towels

A lot of people say no, it’s not worth it but I disagree. It’s easy to bring all this when you live in the west coast, but if you have to travel by air to go pick up your RV its all the stuff you don’t want to bring with you from far away.

I do however think, you don’t need 1 kit per person, 1 or 2 kits for entire RV is fine.

TIP – Get at least one convenience kit.

What do I do when I pick up my RV? And Returning? Cleaning is a bitch.
This is probably the single most important thing I learned about booking an RV! When you pick up this monstrous vehicle inspect it well. We where so excited that we for got to check a couple of things.

We where already well on the road to Burning man when we realized two very important things:

1. The microwave DID NOT work … Keep Calm carry On
2. The amount of gas that rental company said they put in the vehicle was contrary to what it actually had. Supposedly they gave us a full tank. FAIL it was 1/3 full. This was a problem because you have to return it with the same amount… Keep Calm carry On

I cant stress this enough inspect ever single inch of that because you will be liable.

Check that everything works. If it run on electric make sure it turns on and its working properly. If you find any bumps or bruises make sure the company knows it.

TIP - Test all of the electronics yourself
Microwave … make sure it turns on heats up
Stove … make sure it turns on heats up
Fridge… make sure both halves are cold Fridge and Freezer
Generator… test it before you go
Meters for black water… make sure they seem inorder

OH! And expect the RV place to be rude to you, they’ve been dealing with Burners all day.

Returning, the RV is not easier. In fact it’s harder because cleaning it is a bitch. We did our cleaning ourselves this saved us some money in the end. A group of 5 of us did it in about 2 hours.

PLAYA SAND is like BABY POWDER so the first couple of times you try to wipe it off, all your doing is spreading it. Be prepared to use water and lots of it go to an RV park they will have areas for you to clean your RV and a hose. It will be everywhere. It’s going to want to stick to you and to the RV. It’s going to want to go home with you. It’s you new clingy boyfriend or girlfriend that you can’t get rid of. Good old-fashioned elbow grease is your answer.

TIP - Use moist towels with vinegar to help wipe things down and remove sand.

Burning Man Tips, Tricks, Survival Guide, Dos’ and Donts’ All in One. Part 1

PART I - Answering The Question.

No one said it was going to be cheap or easy to get there, but no one ever said it wasn’t going to be the time of your life either.

Let me try and answer the question that has been around as long as the festival itself.

WHAT IS BURNING MAN?

Forget everything you know about music festivals, it’s not a music festival. Yes, there’s tons of music there but its not music festival. I feel its important to get that out of the way since as a first timer that’s the closest thing that you might be able to equate it too. I assure you its way cooler than that. You’re going to be a part of the largest social experiment that ever was.

So... How do you describe Burning Man, I like to think of it as walking into the desert version of Bosch’s painting The Garden of Unearthly Delights. Simply it’s a city in the desert that was designed by some of the most creative artist people in the world. Its’ all done for YOU, to enjoy and a play in for one week only. So make the most of it. Yes, there’s music there good and bad, the art comes first. Everything has a creative spin on it, things are don’t ‘A La Burning Man’. Thing are just little different here, There’s a burner way of life, a funnier way of life. Like a city it has infrastructure and it’s pretty well organized. There’s everything a REAL city has, except in this city a YOUR city, it’s free. You’ll find everything a city has to offer, Art galleries, theatrical performances, fashion shows, boutiques, fitness classes and you can even pamper your self in the finest salons. And always remember it’s your city and you should treat it as such. Respect it and treat it with kindness. Burning Man itself is the biggest gift, given to all of us. And if all this wasn’t enough, at night it glows. The darkness welcomes your kaleidoscopic dreams of light and turns them into your reality; a return to LITE-BRITE come to life.

But what about the citizen of Black Rock City. They are just as fun, crazy and adventures as the time you'll have. The city is has a truly diverse culture, people from all walks of life. And all ages kids from 1 to 92. And not to mention some of the nicest and giving people you'll encounter in and out of the desert. Everyone is dressed the part too hot or not, the ultimate form self expression anything goes. But like all good things Burning Man comes to an end too. At the end your of the week in wonderland, this pagan society of sorts comes together to burn the Man and Temple. He is a symbol of society, life, and what ever you want him to mean. She, the Temple is all you hold cherish and all you hold sacred. A party and a funeral, the ending of a cycle, the chance to let go and what them burn. This marks the beging of your return to reality. Come morning the day after Temple burns, your exodus begins.

Time to bid adios...
So long, farewell

Auf Wiedersehen, goodnight
I hate to go and leave this pretty sight.

Don't just leave Black Rock City, take something with you! Take the principals of what you've seen through out the week. The kindness of strangers and the giving. Imagine how life would be if we could apply them to the "real world". We can create our own realities.

So, Are you excited yet? You should be.

The Places You'll Go Burning Man 2011 Video, by Dr. Seuss

This post is dedicated to my dear friend Soraya AKA the Mother of Meep (and you too Baez) and anyone else willing to read. As if there aren't enough guides and things to read here is another.
