I usually love going through the Amazon 4-for-3 section for kitchen gift ideas, but they have done away with that promotion.  Instead, I've found some great but affordable deals. Some of these, I think you could break up sets and make a few gifts. Divide these up, pair with some cookie mix in a jar or bag: It's $28 for the three items, divided by three is under $10 each. These

It's the best time to find stocking stuffers and fill your gift closet.  I was thinking it might be later on in the week, but the under $5 toys are really adding up.  Remember that new items are added all the time, so check back. Preschool under $5 Girls under $5   Boys under $5  And a few more specific links.  This is basically Amazon's toy clearance section, so

We love doing Story County Conservation events.  McFarland Park hosts their Partners Spring Festival every year.  There are so many fun activities, and also great crafts and learning opportunities.  You'll be able to practice or learn fishing and canoeing, watch a great performer, see live animals, and just enjoy the outdoors.  These are some photos from last year's

I'll start with the Kindle bestsellers.  The free bestsellers are in the list on the right, but if you also look on the left, you'll see many books for under $5.  Did

Valentino's has free kids' meals on Tuesday, and now from 5:30-7:30 pm on the first Tuesday of every month, our favorite face painter will be there.  Cindi from Princesses and Pirates face painting is just the best.  It's amazing how fast she works and how wonderful her paintings look.  My kids have always loved finding her at different events and the Farmer's Market.   &

I know I have mentioned Swagbucks many times, but if you still haven't tried it, it's a great time to start!  They're having a Spring Into Action event, with lots of extra earnings opportunities through the end of April.  Right now, you will get 50 extra Swagbucks for signing up using the code SPRINGIN2SWAG. Lately, I have been earning about $50 per month from Swagbucks, and I

This is a great week to shop at Hy-Vee.  Right now, there are a ton of awesome ways to save.  Let me go through it all.  First, Hy-Vee is again doing the promotion where you buy a small deep freeze for $189.99 and get the equivalent of that amount back in groceries.  This promotion lasts through 3/25, so you have a bit for this one. Also, you have the fuel saver program,

I apologize for not finding a lot of time to post lately.  I will have to make some time soon.  In the meantime, I am again doing a 40 day purge challenge in my house for Lent.  You can click the 40 days link to read more of what I did the last time that I did this. Our work and school schedules don't allow for a lot of time each day, so we are using the weekends to catch up on

This is sort of a combination bargain/kid post, and I'll throw in a little downsizing in the process.  I recently ordered from ThredUP (read down for bargain alert!) for the second time, and I just have to sing their praises.  The last time I just opened the box and threw it out, but this time I took the time to photograph the beauty. First, you get this awesome looking box.

I am mostly done with the bargains, but I can't resist a chance to fill up my cloud with cheap music.  There are a TON of $2.99 albums available on Amazon right now.  This started Monday, so I'm not sure how much longer the deal will last. There are greatest hits from our favorites and a lot of new(er) releases.  Just a few of my favorites here, but hit the link for the full list.

They are 8 and 5 for these exchanges.  Just typical of their interactions, one fights with her words, the other with her fists. (actual photo.  Possibly their first fist fight.) The younger one has the sharing bag, and is looking for something to put in it that starts with the letter N. BG: You could bring in a nuisance. LG: I don't HAVE a nuisance! BG: Will you fit in the bag?

My 9 year old has always been very serious and had a vocabulary beyond her years.  She picks up phrases from all around her, and it was a constant source of amusement when she was little.  This is her watching Americas' Got Talent.  I think she was just turned five at the time. Big girl:  What on EARF?  (it was a sort of Bollywood performance) and later on: Are they

I'm sure lots of children have imaginary friends.  My little girl's do all her naughty stuff for her.  This pteranodon used to spend a lot of time in time out, and finally had to stop going out in public with us at all.  The little girl once explained the whole circle of life to a poor woman stuck in the grocery line behind us, and another time he got pretty naughty in Target.

As I am gathering my memories, photos, and old scraps of information for this blog, I ran across this little gem.  Since, I'd just posted the photo of my younger daughter's kindergarten goal sheet, I thought the two photos made a very obvious contrast between the two girls' personalities. This is my older daughter's from the start of kindergarten.  She started carrying around a little
