The world’s most populous metropolis is Tokyo the capital of Japan and also it is one of Japan’s 47 prefectures  that is consist of 23 central city and multiple cities, towns and villages west of the city center. Tokyo is in the Kanto region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and also the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands is also part of Tokyo. Originally Tokyo was known as Edo meaning estuary. From Edo the name was changed to Tokyo when it became the imperial capital in 1868. Today Tokyo is one of the most advanced and most beautiful cities of the world. Japanese are among the most polite people of the world. Politeness is a part of the Japanese culture in Tokyo.  So do not be amazed if people bow in front of you because that is the way to greet someone in Japan. They are very sensitive about their etiquettes. The festivals and events that take place in Japan all year showcase the rich heritage of their cultures.

The city of Tokyo has the largest number of tourist attractions. It consists of gardens, parks, architectural wonders, temples, shrines, museums and historical sites. Tokyo has numerous parks and gardens that have different types of flower you can see. In Inokashir Park or the Koishikawa Korakuen Garden you can see the roses or the Cherry Blossom trees. Besides these you can also see the animals and birds in the Ueno Zoo. And in the Wadakura Fountain Park you can see the beautiful fountains. You can also visit the shrines and temples that have their unique architectural and calm atmosphere. The two most famous temples in the city are the Gokuku-ji Temple and the Sensoji Temple. If you want to pay respects to the soul of the people who lost their lives in Japan’s wars you can visit the Yasukuni Shrine. If you are interested with Japanese artifacts and artworks, they have a huge collection in the Tokyo National Museum, Mori Art Museum, Asakura Choso Museum, Bridgestone Museum of Arts and many others. You can also look at the historical displays in the Fukagawa Edo Period Museum. Other historic sites that tourist can also visit are Aoyama Cemetery, Hayashi Memorial Hall, Edo Castle, Hachiko, Statue of Liberty and others. There are also numerous architectural monuments that the city is famous.  Rainbow Bridge, Tokyo Tower, Kabuki Theatre, Sunshine 60 Building, Tsukiji Fish Market are some of the major man-made wonders of the city. And if you are traveling with your family you should go for a ride in the Sanrio Puroland theme park. Aside from these, other tourist attractions in Tokyo are Izu Island, Mount Takao, Roppongi Hills, and Ginza. Ginza is the famous shopping and entertainment district in Tokyo.

The 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami devastated much of the northeastern coast of Honshu that was felt in Tokyo. But because of Tokyo’s earthquake-proof infrastructure the damaged in Tokyo was very minor compared to areas that was directly hit by tsunami, although activity in the city was greatly halted. Tsunami caused subsequent nuclear crisis has largely unaffected Tokyo even the occasional spikes in radiation levels.
