I believe we have an echo going on here!

I've been "missing" for a little over a month now.

I have my excuses ready though!

First excuse. We moved.

And we had to clean, redo hardwood floors, clean some more, paint, clean, and stuff like that.

It was very busy for a while.

See those floors. Best workout plan ever.

Scrubbed them on my hands and knees, mopped, then waxed 4 times.

Seriously you wanna sweat and trim down go redo some hardwood floors.

It kicks butt.

I decided we have waaay too much stuff and I'm not moving in the summer again.

Nope never.

I refuse.

Cause me and heat, we don't love each other. I love Air Conditioning.

That's the type of girl I am.

This was probably 85% of my belongs. The rest being furniture and hanging clothes.

Very interesting to live out of suitcases and try to remember where you put everything.

I said goodbye to my old room but it wasn't very sad.

My new room slowly took shape and I like it.

Though a pallet did fall on my leg while I was setting up. I rocked a huge bruise on the back of my leg for 2 weeks. Great conversation piece, let me tell you.

My duvet looks great in my new room. I love it.

My new room doesn't have an actual closet so we put in a system. I finally got it all put together.

I want you to know I don't actually like shoes.

Or at least that's what I've been telling myself for the past couple years.

I don't think I can claim that now.

So that's where I've been mostly and then I've been tired or trying to have a life.

But I'm alive and going to be doing projects soon. Or I plan to try soon.

Never know how they will really turn out...

Homemade Salsa

Who loves chips and salsa????

That would be me!!

I also prefer it homemade. Nothing compares to homemade salsa.

I don't have nearly as often as I want to.

But after craving it all last weekend I decided to get the ingredients since I was doing the grocery shopping for one. (Ya know since my sister had a baby and all and I'm trying to be nice)

I have some recipes but I just did my own thing this time.

Salsa is a pretty basic recipe it just comes down to your taste.

So here is how I made it!

1 red bell pepper

1 green bell pepper

1 large or 2 small onions

4 cloves of garlic

2-3 Serrano peppers (seeds out mean less heat)

2-3 jalapeno peppers (seeds out mean less heat)

2-3 teaspoons salt

1 large tomato

1 large can of peeled whole or diced tomatoes

and if you remember to buy it cilantro to taste!

Throw everything in a blender and blend until it's the consistency you like.

I don't like my salsa chunky so I blend mine pretty well.

And then you eat and eat and eat.

And take some to work for lunch but please don't forget your chips like I did 2 days in a row.

Do you know how sad it is to know you have salsa in the fridge but no chips to eat it with.

It's sad people.

Very very sad.

This is why you don't forget chips.

Okay, go make some salsa!!!

Saving the Stained Dress

I have this dress. It's a fun summer dress. Simple and fun. But it was white.

So I was always a little paranoid when I wore it. Apparently not paranoid enough because when I pulled it out this spring I found a yellow stain on it.

I was so sad! I tried bleaching it but it barely lightened at all. At first I thought it might not be that noticeable.

But it was and the dress was just too cute to throw away! So I came up with the brilliant idea to dye it.

I had never dyed anything before so I asked some friends and did some research. I went to Michaels to find the dye. I figured they would have more color options. (Which they did.) After much debating I decided to go with the RIT brand in golden yellow.

Now the instructions are on the inside of the box so don't destroy it when you open it. And something that's not on the outside of the box is that they recommend you using their color fader before dying your cloth. I didn't know that and decided since my dress was white it wouldn't matter.

Because the fabric of my dress was pretty thin and there wasn't a lot of it the dye took pretty quickly.

The instructions says to leave it in the dye for up to 30 minutes. I felt my color was done within 10 minutes.

I really like this yellow. Its a full and vibrant color but not so light you can see right through it.

Oh look its my closet without doors.

It was really easy, with a light fabric, to get an even color in the dress.

But my stained got dyed a darker color as well.

You can see it turned orange here. The first assumption was that it wasn't that noticeable and I could get away with wearing it still. So I added a cardigan and fabric flower and wore it to work. I noticed the stain though and decided it wasn't going to work.

I was still determined to keep the dress though. Thankfully my co-worker, Kathy, came up with a brilliant plan for me. She suggest putting a flower on the dress to cover the stain.

Brilliant!

I had a white cotton t-shirt that was pretty faded and I wasn't going to wear any more so I cut it into strips to make my flowers. I got the flower idea through dress tutorial from a blog I follow here.

P.S. I really want to make that dress too. Maybe when I have a friend who likes to sew.

This is the flower before I sewed it down covering the stain. It changes some as you start to sew it down so don't get to set on how it looks. I uses a silverish colored thread and sewed the flowers down by hand.

Here it is after I sewed it down.

I started off with 2 flowers and decided it wasn't enough.

I didn't space them as well as I could have but I like them. I'm glad I chose white so I can add color other places with this dress.

I actually like the dress a lot better with the flowers. It's still simple but they just add that extra something.

Before I wash the dress again I may go back and sew down the flowers a bit more. I don't want them coming loose in the wash or getting messed up.

I wore a navy blue fabric flower and coral jewelry. I felt extremely colorful.

And this is Sunday at church. I didn't add the flower since I knew I would be carrying children that day.

I love the flowers though and the way the dress turned out.

A crafting win!!!

Now you know how to think outside the box and save those stained items that still have some life in them. Or if you just really love it and can't let go. I may even re-stain some of my favorite black t-shirts so they look better. That was a different friends brilliant idea.

Look Who Arrived!

Well, Jordan Timothy arrived this past Friday!!!

I'm one proud dauntie!!!!

He is wonderfully healthy! None of the problems we were afraid are here.

He's pretty amazing.

I love him.

And that makes me dauntie times 3.

Insta Catch Up

I've been slacking online but I haven't been slacking with my picture taking!

So here is the last few weeks in pictures.

It's exciting people.

My inspired snack one night. Oreos and honeydew.

It was seriously good. But now we're out.

Found a restaurant that makes Asian food!

This is bulgogi. It made me happy.

I also had sushi. I was full.

This may be why I can't lose weight.

Attic room + Summer = HOT HOT room

I put up the portable AC all by myself. This included moving furniture.

And that says 83 degrees. Yuck!

I ate out like every single day 2 weeks ago.

Expensive. Except for this day.

They gave me the Chili's chips and salsa for free.

I love their chips and salsa.

Hmm....I need chips and salsa now.

CVS had a new line of drinks. This one is supposed to help you focus.

It tasted yummy as for focusing me, I'll ask my coworkers later.

Cheesecake and Strawberries for the long weekend.

Umm...I may have had 2 helpings on Monday.

Let's not talk about the other days.

Hard to see but I cut my finger trying a sewing project.

I can't cut a straight line using a yard stick, measuring mat, and rotary cutter.

I blame that on missing kindergarten.

First popsicle of summer and the last pic of my lovely green shades.

They sadly passed away that same night. But they were clearance so that's okay.

This is part of a conversation I had with Siri (my phone) last week. My words are the ones in quotes.

I love her responses at times.

Iphones rock people.

Did you know that at Michael's in their jewelry section they have charms, bracelets, etc ready to be worn or put on a chain. I recently learned this. I also learned you can get some good clearance.

This lovely charm was $1.99.

Score!!! Just threw it on a chain I already had.

Then a slightly matching bracelet for $2.99. Or maybe the prices are the other way around.

Either way I love it.

I've been seeing stripes every where. Especially on Instagram and was very happy to find this wonderful top on clearance for $10. The stripes are navy blue and I will confess I forgot the necklace in my morning rush but tried it on to see if it would look as fab as I imagined.

This weekend I'm on a kid duty due to very big exciting news which I shall share soon.

Like tomorrow soon.

But today once it finally hit 70 degrees I sat outside while the boys played.

And dude, do I need a tan!

Chocolate Chip Pound Cake

This is one of my all time favorite cakes.

I got the recipe in high school from one of my close friends mother. It's the simplest recipe and was one of my favorite things to have whenever I went to their house.

And you know I didn't take any pictures of the process.

Oops.

Chocolate Chip Pound Cake Recipe

1 package yellow or chocolate cake mix (any ole box cake mix)

1 small package vanilla or chocolate pudding mix (choose the opposite of your cake mix)

3/4 cup milk

8 oz sour cream

3 eggs

8 oz chocolate chips

Mix ingredients together adding chocolate chips last. Pour batter into greased and floured bunt pan. Bake at 350 degrees or 55 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar when cool.

I made the cake for a co-workers birthday. But I was nice and allowed my pregnant sister to have a piece the nigh before. :) It's even more amazing warm.

I was impatient, shocking I know, and put the powdered sugar on too soon so it did this weird melting thing.

My breakfast at work the day after.

It is all around delish.

I can't make this cake too often because I will eat at least half of it on my own.

But its an extremely easy recipe that doesn't take as long as a fully made by scratch cake.

Shellac Manicure Review

Okay, I'm really behind on my update. I got busy, maybe lazy.

I've had the shellac off for 2 weeks now.

To remind you here is Day 1 of my shellac manicure.

I had some chips that we talked about here. I ended up doing some touch ups for my friends reception and then just waited until more chips came. I ended up just peeling most of the shellac off after a rather long morning meeting at work. I noticed it and then couldn't let it go. I don't think that's exactly how you're supposed to do it. I had a 2 nails that I used acetone on to get the polish off.

My nails had a dry look to them after taking the polish off but the didn't peel or crack. They actually felt stiffer than normal which I liked. All around I probably won't do shellac a lot but if I specifically wanted to get my nails done for multiple events close to each other I would consider doing it again.

I realized the day after I took my shellac off that the strengthening and conditioning polish I did own was over 2 years old and figured that should be updated. I asked around and had quite a few people recommend the Essie brand for nail strengthening.

It's a light pink color that dries clear. I like it. It dries quickly and has a nice shine. It was always really smooth to put on.

I got some nail polish from my friend for my birthday. I call it grown up glitter polish. I put it on my toes yesterday afternoon and then had to do my fingers as well.

It's just that fun.

Isn't it fun?!?! It's Spoiled by Wet N Wild. I know it was purchased at CVS but I personally haven't seen it anywhere else yet.

I has blue and silver flecks in it. My friend got herself a bottle as well but in champagne colors.

I may have to see if they have a pink.

Don't you agree it's glitter for adults?

Seriously people. My nails haven't had this much color and fun on them since who knows when!

I like it.

Paint Sample Garland

I love all the things you can do with paint sample cards. I think it's so creative and a great way to incorporate lots of color. I've used paint samples before here.

I got the idea for making garland with paint samples through Pinterest, of course. Go here for the link.

Since it was for a baby shower I didn't want to do hear cut-outs but knew that you get so many other cut outs in the scrap booking section at Michaels.

Of course I didn't take a picture of they cut out tool I bought. But they were out of all the in-between sizes in regular circles so I got one with scalloped edges. Then to fit with our pink and yellow theme we chose 2 pinks and 2 yellows in paint samples at Home Depot. I didn't get the long skinny strips with multiple colors. I got one color cards.

These aren't all the colors I chose since of course I forgot to take a picture until after I was done doing the cut outs. But that's how I like to do my tutorials apparently.

Here are the paint samples after I had done all my cut outs. I got 6 circles per card roughly.

And the cut out circles themselves. I didn't count how many cards I had or how many circles I got I tried to get about the same amount of cards and cut outs of all colors.

The yellow cut outs. You can see in this picture that the back of the card had different pictures on the back. Our original plan was to hang the garland from the ceiling so we decided to put the circles back to back so it was the same color on both sides.

To make the garland you get some yarn and hot glue the circles onto the yarn. Then for our garland we turned it over and put circles on the opposite side as well. You follow me?

We just eyed the length of yarn we wanted and chose to do a pattern of colors for our garland.

We had our baby shower in our church foyer and once there decided against hanging the garland from the ceiling. We hung up some white tablecloths over the double doors into the auditorium and then the garland over it. It made a nice backdrop for the gift table.

I really loved the look of this garland and want to make more for other parties that may come. It was nice pops of color and texture but so simple to make. And I mean really, who doesn't love the look of polka dots!

I still have the garland and have no clue what I'm going to do with it. Anyone have a little girls room they want to hang it in? It doesn't exactly go with my decorations at the moment.

Cupcake Liner Pom Pom

I love hanging lanterns but I don't always know where to find them. I did luck out and find some small lanterns at the dollar aisle in Michaels but I wanted something with some more texture to hang up as well. I was browsing through Pinterest and found this great tutorial. I just changed a couple things to make it easier for what I had on hand.

I didn't want to spend money on styrofoam balls so after a brilliant idea from my sister we decided to improvise. We got a bunch of newspaper and crumpled it together to make our own balls. Then to keep it together I also put masking tape around parts.

It didn't have to be perfect and since it was newspaper I knew I would be able to put stick pins through it.

Keeping with the pink and yellow theme I found packages of pink and yellow cupcake liners at Michaels for $2. (I got some great deals for this project!)

These are great colors together!

Since I was using newspaper I only used pins to hold the liners in place not pins and hot glue. If I pulled too hard or packed the liners too close I tore some out but overall it worked fine.

You pin on the liners and just go around your entire ball. Once you get them mostly filled up you will be able to tell if you like your liners tight or looser. I didn't really pinch the bottom of my liners when I pinned them on. As I had less room I did but I didn't do it every time.

Aren't they fun? I made 2 yellow and 2 pink with some liners left over.

To hang them we took some light pink yarn we already had and pinned it in.

I think they are lots of fun and still wish I had a niece to hang these in her room. If you want them to last a long time or if they would be in reach of children I would use styrofoam balls and hot glue.

Pretty colors. I think I may have to incorporate them into my room somehow.

Baby Shower Fun #2

A couple weeks ago we had our second baby shower of this year. This time for a little girl!

It was so fun to plan girly decorations.

Too bad I don't have a niece to spoil and decorate for.

Well maybe thats not a bad things since I would constantly be spending money on her.

In this post I'm just going to give you an overview of the decorations but I'll post some "tutorials" tomorrow.

The colors were pink and yellow. We tried to keep it light and fun.

The tutorials I'm gonna share are for the pom poms and garland.

There were lots of sweets and yummy treats.

And we added daisies to everything.

Daisies are wonderful flowers.

And now since this post has taken me ten years to write due to slow photo uploading and just being distracted I'm going to attempt to be productive the rest of night.

It's my birthday today.

The big 24. It kinda feels like 23 to be honest.

My lovely sister made me a carmel cappacino this morning.

It helped me wake up.

Then when I got to work I had a fun card from my coworkers and a amazingly sweet card from my friend Anne. Who also supplied my favorite snacks as well as other goodies.

My birthday dinner was amazingly delicious.

Mahi, rice, and fresh asparagus.

I may have had some issues and choked on the part of the asparagus.

And then it was dessert time.

Can you say a Cannoli cake from Whole Foods Bakery!

Doesn't that sound delicious!?!?!

Jayden wanted all the mini chocolate chips on top.

It was really really good.

The leftovers are going to work so Keiki and I don't go into a sugar coma.

Especially considering she also bought other desserts from the Whole Foods Bakery.

I'm telling you people. If you have one nearby you MUST go. But not if you plan to diet. Then its a bad bad bad idea.

Shellac Manicure Update

It's day 10 of having my shellac manicure on and today my opinion dropped a bit.

This morning half the polish came off on one of my nails! So sad! I had some chips that were bugging me already. (apparently I can be a bit of a perfectionist) But I was impressed with how well it looked after doing dishes daily, cleaning a bathroom, and just normal life.

I bought the polish they used with my pedicure which matches so I touched it up myself. But there's a difference if you look close and it still kinda feels like I'll catch it on something and the rest will come off. I just need it to last until Saturday then I don't care.

I don't know if it was the salon I went to, since my pedicure has not lasts well at all, how much I did, or of my nails just don't like polish. I've seen other people have it last longer.

Well that's my quick update. I haven't decided if I'm completely against shellac now or if it was still nice. I'll tell you this weekend.

Instagram Catch-Up

I haven't posted in awhile and it was a busy week/weekend.

But I did document it all with Instagram.

Have you seen these in your grocery store. I know carmel dip is more common but if you find these with the cinnamon dip get them. So delicious and only 60 calories or maybe 90 I had to many fun snack packs this week.

Then my sister ruined my plans to eat healthy and good all week by bringing me a mini vanilla creme brûlée. It was seriously delicious and I must must learn how to make this at home. Do you know that means a torch? That would be fun. :D

Did you know Starbucks had this deal on their bags?? I didn't until this week. I have missed out on so many free coffees. Sad sad times....

We had a party at work this week. One of my coworkers always gets this certain spinach artichoke dip from Costco. It is amazing, delicious, and I love love love it!!! I ate way to much of it to be perfectly honest.

Apparently a lot of this week focused on food....

I had taco bell on Friday for the first time in quite a while. It wasn't great but I still love the sauce packets.

Saturday it was all about Team Bride. (Awesome cup and we had bracelets!!!) My lovely friend Anne is getting hitched in Vegas this week so we had a spa day Saturday morning that involved manicures and pedicures. So lovely....

I haven't had color on my finger nails in years. This was my first shellac manicure and so far I really really like it. The color isn't black like it looks in the picture. It is OPI Russian Navy and I really love the color. I will let you know how the shellac keeps up for the allotted 14 days.

And the freshly pedicured toes. Oh pedicures...I missed you much.

We had a Easter concert at church this week. It went great and the artist Sean C. did an amazing job. It really spoke to me and I was so glad some of my friends could come.

I made a return to TJ Maxx on Monday and while I waited in line they caught me with their candles by the check outs. This citrus cilantro candle smelled amazing and I just couldn't resist. I've never seen this Maison brand and I'm very impressed so far.

Best Corny Movie Ever

Do you have a favorite corny movie?

I do. I know it's corny but I love it anyway.

I quote it with my sister who loves it as well.

But I've found very few other people have seen it or loved it.

Which made my quote pass by unnoticed the other day even though I thought it was hilarious.

This is my favorite corny movie.

I first saw it when I was in junior high and then went through a summer in high school where my best friend and I watched it every time we were together. (That was a lot)

When my movie line fell on deaf ears at work I immediately text my sister so she could laugh with me. Which also prompted a random movie line night later on.

You know sitting there saying lines from movies you love that just make you laugh.

It was fun.

Sunday Musings on a Monday

I go to church.

I grew up going to church.

If you didn't or don't normally go to church I'm "one of those people" that goes to church a couple times a week.

I'm glad we cleared that up.

I love my church. I think it basically rocks and completely admit I'm biased.

I love the way we worship at my church.

It moves me and touches my heart immensely.

Goose bumps people.

Goose bumps.

We haven't sung the song I'm going to share yet but we have been listening to it for the past 4 weeks. I hope we start to sing it because I love it. I can't even tell you all the things I love about it.

It just has so much truth.

Reasons I Could Never Work in a Bakery

It's my sister's birthday tomorrow.

Happy Birthday Sis!!!

Because anytime I end up making something she ends up helping me I decided to get her birthday desserts from Whole Foods bakery.

Have you ever tried things from their bakery?

If not you need to.

I'm not going to suggest anything because I'm positive everything they have is super fabulous.

As I was eating one of their fabulous chocolate creations and letting the rich chocolate melt in my mouth the thought "I need to work there" crossed my mind. Then as I swallowed the last little morsel I had to change that thought to "I could never work in a bakery."

There are many reasons for this and since I'm contemplating going back for another bite of chocolate or when I'm going to be near Whole Foods again I decided to share them.

1. I have this weird aversion to working with food in general. I like cooking and eating. I like cooking for friends but mass production weirds me out.

2. If I worked in a bakery I would constantly want to taste something, lick something, or accidentally mess something up so I could eat it. (is that even allowed?)

3. I would gain a billion pounds because I would have to bring things home every day or eat them on my lunch. I have no will power.

4. If I worked at the bakery that means I would know how to make all those dessert to perfection at home. Do you KNOW what that even means??!!

5. I love chocolate too much to not taste everything that has chocolate in it. Remember no will power....

If you are not yet inspired to go to a Whole Foods bakery or another bakery near you I'm very sorry.

And at this moment I'm thankful Whole Foods isn't any closer than it already is.

This is not from my phone.

I saw this on Pinterest a couple nights ago and ~~after laughing out loud for a couple minutes~~ immediately figured out how to do this on my phone and sent it to as many people that I thought would be able to see the characters.

It made me happy and no one responded like the not nice person in the above photo.

My friends laughed.

We are all extremely fab like that.

And now you know you want to do this yourself, if you're cool and already have an iPhone that is.

Not just table ware

I love shopping at Target.

I think they have great deals, great designers, and awesome clearance.

One of the things I love is their ever changing plastic table ware sets. It changes every season, is very reasonably priced, and is always fun colors.

I've already used some plates from target as art around Christmas time. You can look at that post here.

But back to what I just got.

Because I love their table ware I always glance at it if I'm wandering the store and not a specific mission. They had some awesome new modern patterns that I decided I could incorporate in my room.

I like the blue and black mix in this pattern.

There was a chevron patter but it had 3 colors in it and it just didn't flow for me.

First I started out with just one tumbler but had to go back for a second.

I filled one with whole coffee beans so I could hold up my make-up brushes.

Coffee beans add texture and a fabulous smell.

If you like the smell of coffee that is...

The second tumbler got filled with Q-tips.

Awesome right?

I have a vanity in my room and the tumblers are now sitting there.

It keeps everything contained and adds a tiny bit of color to my dark brown shelf and dark brown edged mirror. (Remember everything used to brown....)

I used the plate to hold a bunch of random jewelry pieces and flowers.

It displays my rings and some brooches so I don't have to dig for them.

It makes me feel organized.

I love when you can find different uses for things.

But I will one day actually use Targets plastic table ware on a table to eat off.

Promise.

But not the other plate I bought yesterday..........

Ya I could have a plate obsession..... :)
