I’m not that fat. I just got heavier and have bulges where they used to be flat and wished they remained flat. After having 3 children and activities that made my fingers do the walking, it seems that I’m going to say goodbye to my body which I had less than 2 decades ago.

I loved my body then. Not because of beauty but because I was agile, strong and healthy. I rode a bike like I was a guy. I swam the beaches going the farthest. I played volleyball like there was no other day. I played bowling 15-20 games a day. (Paying those games is beside the point…I always played loser’s pay and usually start and end with the same money I had in my pocket.)

My diet? I drank whole milk most of the day. I could finish a kilogram in 2 days. Each glass would have about 3 heaping tablespoons that would reach half the glass and the rest with water…about 5-6 times a day. I’d have rice and viand for lunch and dinner and I’d be strong, alert and agile the whole day.

I wish I could have back that diet but if I do now, it would be very expensive. There was no internet then. Now that my life revolves with the internet, it’s more challenging to get back to my usual set of healthy activities.

Hubby would ask me, plead, actually, that I exercise but it seems the motivation is not very strong. He knew that vanity is not my motivation so he insists that I do it for health reasons. I know he’s right. We’re not going any younger and exercise will be the only way to keep those bones and heart alive and well.

I’ve looked into some diet pills that work. I’m still looking. As I always mention, when you want to try something new (at least for yourself), make sure to research about it especially if it will affect your health.

It is a common saying, that beauty is just skin-deep. That means to say that there are more important aspects of a person that would outlast beauty when the golden years are at hand.

It doesn’t mean, though, that even if it’s just skin deep, you won’t care for it at all. Frankly, I’m one of those who don’t care much about my skin. I used to play volleyball with a friend back when I was yet learning some 2 decades ago during lunch break. That’s 12 noon to 1pm! My skin would tan and later peel off and I would not care at all.

I could also go swimming all day and I’d literally get dark. If not for the pain the sunburn causes, I really didn’t care.

It’s different these days, though. The ozone layer is thinning and the UV rays of the sun causes skin cancer. The effect not only affects beauty but the health of a person as well. Better check on sunscreens and other skin care products to make your skin not only beautiful to look at but healthy as well. Besides, you only get to live with beautiful skin for just a short while…why not enjoy it with care?

I was probably 13 or 14 then. We were in Baguio City, sometime in September or October. The whole family went horseback riding at the Wright Park where horses go around with or without a guide.

The first few minutes with the guide was ok. I thought it was actually boring because the horse was just walking as the guide held the rope. He actually asked me if I’d like to be left alone. I agreed. The guide left but the horse stood still for about 10 minutes. My time is running out and so is the money which is paid by the half hour.

I tried every whoa and hiya but it would not budge. I tried my heels against its sides with matching tsk-tsk-tsk and it moved…actually faster than I could handle. It was running (well, faster than galloping) beyond my control and the guide was far away from me. I tried every command I could imagine but it would not stop. The next thing that I did was embrace the horse by the neck. It stopped. Great!

When I released my embrace, it went faster than galloping again. I embraced it again and it stopped again. The third time I was looking for the guide while I was embracing the horse. I learned later that my command was to make the horse run instead of making it stop.

That was quite traumatic for me. That was my last ride, actually. I have thought to overcome my fear but I never had the opportunity. Actually I admire equestriennes. Seeing them in breeches is really cool. It makes women being able to do what men can do more visible. It gives me a positive outlook that I will be able to ride a horse again. That I can.

Humans in general desire to have more and complain of having less. More money, more space, more food, more gadgets, more toys, more vacation time, more idle time.

Others, though, are content with what they have. Some, don’t dream of anything at all, stuck to the idea that there is no hope for them like the street bums.

Along the squatters area, you can see people barely having anything to cover their body. If ever, they look like rags. You see many children. You’d wonder, how on earth they were able to produce more children when they don’t have much to feed them? But along with those lack, you see them playing around, smiling, laughing, barely thinking of any care in this world. To them, that moment is their moment and they have to make the most out of that very moment.

On the other hand, the dreamers, the go-getters, usually have achieved something. Usually, material things. House gets bigger, stuff fills the house, more food, more junk food, more entertainment. But coupled with all those are more worries. What if someone tries to steal from them? So now they install home alarm systems to protect their wealth. Rich people have less kids because they’re so busy with accumulating wealth. If they have a kid at all, that rich kid is usually fed with material stuff too but they lack the parental warmth because they are so busy with more important things to do.

What do you think? Who is more blessed?

We may blame the network stations for all the violence and immorality but on their end they will just tell you to shut off your TV if you don’t like what you see.

Is the internal TV better than the real one or vice versa?

Pros of Internal TV:
- save on electric bill (computer is on anyway)
- easily screen capture images
- just move your eyes to watch while working

Cons of Internal TV:
- if I like it shut off and others want to watch, they can’t
- screen is as small as the space I provide (since I’m working)
- when it crashes, I have to restart
- it slows down the computer (memory hog)

What do you prefer?

Topically, there are creams.

You probably have heard the saying, “If you failed to plan, you planned to fail.”

With the economic crisis the whole world is experiencing, more jobs are sought than what is available. More are overworked for lesser pay. Both parents need to work to provide for the family, especially the children.

What if you still have a baby? How can you work? Leaving it to a nanny may be a solution but if you ask me, I’ll never leave my growing kids to a nanny. When I had my first baby, my mom offered to watch over her while I was at work as an employee. I’d bring her over to my mom’s house at 6am and come back at around 9pm.

On her third month, my mom gave up. If I had a Bob stroller, things would run differently. My mom gave up because she felt very tired. Since I didn’t like to have a stranger touch my family, I resigned on her 4th month and did what a mother should do: take care of her own child.

My hubby then was earning lesser than what I earned. But it’s not all about the money. The future of that little baby will be shaped by what she is during her developmental stage. Sure, I care for the money. We were considered poor. But we could eke out on the meager income that was cut more than half so we managed to live under God’s daily miracles. Besides, He promised to supply our needs daily.

Many would sort out to go out of the country, leaving the family behind, leaving a gap. Children with either or both parents out of the country, usually end up with emotional disorder. More often than not, the morality goes down the drain too.

There’s nothing wrong with being practical, nor it is wrong to plan for the future. I guess it’s just a matter of importance. What is weightier? Financial stability or moral stability?

Solomon, in the latter years of his life, concluded that all is vanity.

How far would you go for vanity’s sake? Do you go for expensive names because of the quality and the status symbol attached to the items you buy not even caring how much each costs? Do you scour for sale and bargain items of the same expensive names just so you can brag about those names without hurting much your pocket? Or, you might be the type who would go for nameless stuff as long as the effect is the same at a fraction of the cost? On the farthest end, maybe you don’t you care at all and for you, what you are at the most natural state is the best, regardless if it’s beauty or not for others.

For several millennia we have been searching for the fountain of youth. Cleopatra bathed in milk. In our modern era, we have injectables, mud packs, and creams to serve its beauty purpose. Among those, it seems that the wrinkle cream is the most popularly used. How about you, what is YOUR choice?

Even if I wanted to go country-hopping someday with my whole family, it is my country that I’d love to travel around first. With more than 7,000 islands, our country boasts of a lot of natural resources.

When you come to Manila, it doesn’t have to be expensive. With Accor Hotels City Super Sale you can get more for your money. Try the Imperial Palace. Hurry, though, because the savings is a limited offer.

I have only been to a few islands and stay mainly in Mega Manila. Baguio City is frequented every year which is the Summer Capital of the Philippines. It’s the coolest climatewise.

I’ve been to Davao twice. I’d love to go back. Aside from missing durian, the fruit for the kings and the king of fruits, I’d love to go back to Samal Island which is just a boat ride from Davao.

In Tacloban, Leyte, I was able to hike it’s highest peak and enjoy the beach and fresh fish being cooked by the shore. It was just for 2 weeks that I was there. It was also the first time I was able to see the Sto. Nino Shrine which is a museum where Papa made some of his dioramas which were asked of him by the first lady Imelda Marcos.

Olongapo City is my hometown. I’ve enjoyed much of my time there. A small city but full of places to see. The beaches, the hills, and across is an island, Grande Island. Super nice. A real rain forest.

When you come over because of this post, I’d love to meet with you and have lunch with you. Your treat.
