Since the time I had a haircut, it has lengthened to an uncomfortable length that when it is windy, my eyes suffer tiny spikes and my face itches from the same irritability due to those spikes. Before the last haircut, I had my hair long without scissors touching it for a year in preparation for a dance number last October.
Frankly, I hate staying in front of the mirror just to fix my hair that’s why I prefer it short which will only need a few brush strokes. I just hope I don’t come to a point that I will have to suffer from hair loss for women.
]]>Am I that old? For some months now I’ve been suffering from joint pains. My finger joints hurt but not as much as my knees. Climbing the stairs is not easy. It gives me a hard time going up more than it is going down. My kids tease me that I’m already old but I have some friends who are a lot older and yet do not feel what I suffer.
I think it has something to do with lack of exercise. Perhaps I will need chondroitin if I can’t manage on my own.
]]>I think you will agree that any writer or blogger experiences some writer’s or blogger’s block. It may be easier for some and more difficult for others but still, a block is a block and more often than not, it happens at a time when you least expect it to happen.
It may be easier for bloggers who write about anything than for those who must comply to certain topics especially those who make blogging their job, but the same problem will remain if a solution will not be used.
What solutions can be used? Try any of these or all:
- divert your attention to something else and usually the bright idea will just pop up.
- read, read, and read…ideas come from other writers’ view.
- look around you and think what can inspire you to write–something or an event can connect to what you should write about.
- use the internet for your research–it’s right in front of you.
]]>During my grandparents’ time, you can be a teacher without even reaching secondary level. It’s more of a necessity to teach the younger once who do not know and lack of real teachers. Combined with the second world war, survival is very important.
In the 70s to the 90s, college education became divided the haves and the have-nots. In the year Y2K, when nearly everyone was so stressed out with what could possibly happen since the computers were only configured to understand 1999, and the love bug (iloveyou virus) was the first global virus to hit the widest coverage, and the boy who programmed it was said to be hired by Microsoft, education shifted from physical buildings to virtual. Even before the HTML course hit the classrooms, I was already tutoring (for pay, of course).
Now, not only computer-related subjects are available over the internet. Who would think ten years ago that medical coding training courses will be available now?
]]>Toys are generally categorized into two: constructive and destructive. Toys that are destructive are guns, grenades, and the like, which molds the players’ minds into making murder as something just ok. Computer games that kill are in the same category.
Toys that build are those that enhance the brains like puzzles, building blocks, board games, raquet sports, mini golf, and the like. Computer games that teach languages, spelling, crosswords, etc., are also constructive.
Here at home, we usually make our own toys and we encourage the kids to make their own. That way, they also develop their creativity. Whether you buy or make your own toys, consider whether they are constructive or destructive. Either will develop a path for the player’s future. Your choice.
]]>It’s easy to give gifts to people who are having difficulty financially. Usually, give them anything that has more value to them and they will be happy. How about giving gifts to someone who has more than you have? Even a lot more than you have.
You can create your gift. Make your own card with your own poem that has a message that strikes well. If you have a talent for something crafty, you can give one of your works. If, however, you have no talent for such, you can just buy something unique. You have a rich girlfriend? There are unique gifts for her available that you can choose from.
]]>How do you save? Do you spend first then save what’s left or save first then spend what’s left?
Generally, the poor stays poor because of the first habit and those who walked their way to wealth built their riches on the latter habit. When I say poor, I mean those who just live with the basic needs and not the underprivileged who cannot afford to eat thrice a day.
It can be very challenging to start living the latter’s habit especially if you are an impulse buyer. Self-control must be emphasized. If you cannot, try a pension plan. You buy it, so you pay for it…but actually, it’s your savings should you reach retirement and have no means of earning an income for yourself, or, your beneficiary’s, should you be taken to rest early. You can ask around for a local agent or you can also buy insurance online.
]]>We have cigarette smokers and cigar smokers. What are the differences (there are more than one, I suppose)? Are you a smoker? What do you smoke? Have you changed from one to another? Why?
Another question. Does Hollywood dictate what could be a fad or does it only depict what really is happening? Say, like when Arnold Schwarzenegger was seen with a cigar and it looked chic and stylish, it seemed like a virus of some kind that now even women go for the stogie.
Who says it’s a man’s world now that you can even buy cigars online without the discomfort of embarrassment if you go in an offline store?
]]>I’m no politician, nor do I like politics. Here’s a theory, though, that just popped in my head 2 days ago.
People are driven to decide by the way they are which can be categorized into three: the introverts, the extroverts, and the in-betweens. The introverts decide using their heads while the extroverts decide using their feelings/hearts. The in-betweens are torn with the combination of both which can be the best of both worlds, deciding intelligently with a mix of human touch.
The introverts don’t act on impulse. They’re good in emergencies. They think before they speak. Whether it is for self-gain or for the welfare of the country, they will elect someone based on what they know about the candidate’s capability, moral standing, integrity, and platform. If someone buys their votes, the introverts will readily see that the candidate is already corrupt. They can easily spot a candidate who is always late and will not vote for that person. They think if a candidate cannot be trusted in least, how can he be trusted in much? They can see if a candidate can be swayed to and fro or if he is knowledgeble or not in the field he is entering into. The head rules in the introvert’s point of view.
The extroverts are ruled by the heart–their feelings. Whether they pity a candidate or are mad of another, this type of voter will be drawn by other people’s emotions. They like the crowd without thinking what it’s all about. They’ll vote for the candidate who sways their emotions by mere talk. They’ll vote out of pity and buddy-buddy mentality. They’ll vote for someone because they feel so.
The in-betweens will vote based on both about what they think and what they feel.
So, who do you think will win? It depends on how many voters are introverts, extroverts and in-betweens. Do you have any data on that? If you do, the next president is caculated…given that the program is not erred. Has it been tested that if a voter selects no one or selects everyone, what will be the result? An IF statement can be (possibly) inserted like If voter did not select any candidate, put 1 point for specific candidate, or if no one is selected, give 1 point to a specific candidate. Something like that.
How do you know, by handwriting, if someone is an introvert, an extrovert or an in-between?
1. Writing that is vertical to one that slants to the left is that of an introvert.
2. Writing that slants as much to the right is that of an extrovert.
3. Writing that slants a bit to the right is that of an in-between. The farther right it slants, the more an extrovert the person is.
Put this to a test. In a group of ten, for example, identify the introverts, extroverts and in-betweens. How many for each category did you arrive at? How about a hundred? A thousand? You’ll have a rough idea who will in that particular group.
]]>As we grow old from grade school to secondary to tertiary levels, we find that we have a lot of books that can make up a library and those books will never be used again unless we have someone in mind to give them to.
Storing books not meant to be used is just a waste of space and the use for a specific book is not maximized. I don’t mean souvenirs or collections but textbooks.
Now, with the internet, we can sell textbooks online for others to use. We maximize the use of the trees that were felled to make those books.
