My final post...I had planned on showing off a session a day last week but mother nature had other plans lol. So here they all are in one LONG post, a little peek at my final sessions. I also wanted to answer a couple of questions I've been getting alot :)

Can't you freelance or work from your home? Technically yes, alot of photographers work this way. For me personally though my home is very tiny and this past month working from home has posed all kinds of frustrations as running a business from your dining room table will cause. We do have plans to sell our home this fall but that is something I have no control over and with the housing market as it is right now I have no idea when that will actually be.

Can't you work from home and just sell the cd so there would be no need to have space to package orders etc.? Yes, this is one idea we pondered when we decided to close. However we have offered an all digital package for awhile now and we've never had one taker. With as saturated as this area is with photographers I don't think that there is a good market here to be only digital...even though my clients have always loved purchasing the cd.

Can you work with another photographer? I have had a couple of offers, mainly to second shoot weddings but ultimately I'm not the only one taking a hit right now and there just aren't alot of openings for a children's photographer ;)

What will you do now? Well, the first thing is to paint paint paint to get my home ready to sell, the next thing is I'll be homeschooling my girls. Kindergarten and fourth grade. That will keep me VERY busy. My husband is a pastor and his schedule keeps our family hopping, we would be busy even if that's all we did lol. I do still need to work so we have already begun to network with photographers and will be renting out backdrops to photographers. Sounds boring I know, but there is a true need for that and we've gotten alot of interest...and hey it pays the bills :)

Who should we go to now? I know too many photographers to play favorites but qconline.com has a very extensive list of photographers. If you google 'quad city photographers' the link to that will come up.

Will you go into business again? At this time due to the popularity of the digital camera and the growing trend of mom's becoming childrens photographers I don't see there being a need for me...but hey never say never right?

Will you take pictures anymore? Are you kidding me? My camera is like my fourth child, my kids cannot escape my camera lol. I take pictures nearly every day and don't plan on stopping.

Ultimately we just decided I'm not superwoman and I know I could not offer the same experience my clients have become accustomed to out of my home. With so many balls to juggle somewhere along the way some will get dropped and I can't handle the thought of dropping the business ball.

Thank you again to all of you, especially your amazing kindess during this difficult process. I have loved every minute of watching your children grow and being a part of your family's memories.

that was SOME storm!

Just a little note that we got hit pretty badly in the storm yesterday and still do not have any power. We lost a tree,three windows and some siding but were lucky compared to some of the damage done to our neighbors (including a home three doors down with a tree through the whole house). We were also blessed that a youth group just happened to choose our street to help people and helped us cut down our tree! So today we are still without power which has put me behind on processing orders etc. as I cannot access any info. My husband was able to get internet via his phone however we have no way to charge anything so this is just a quick check in. If you are waiting on a session to be put online, to come in and view/order, or are waiting to pick up an order just know that I'm going as quickly as possible but I cannot access any of my information to contact clients nor do I have power to work on sessions/orders. Amazingly along with the fire trucks on our street yesterday were also the fedex and UPS man, so I did get deliveries yesterday it's jut a matter of trying to figure out how to process the orders without my orders to go off of! Hopefully we'll get power very soon. Feel free to call me at 736-0030 if you need me...I still have a bar of power left lol!

the big sale!

I've had lots and lots and lots of questions on the sale...silly me forgot to put the time in the newsletter! It will be Saturday July 26th from 9-12. I didn't realize it at the time that is also bix day (you may not have noticed from looking at me but my motto is only run if you are being chased) so hopefully if you're going to the race you can stop over when it's done.

What are we selling? Pretty much everything. I'll be keeping just a handful of props that are standard to baby photography and things that if I ever decided to take a picture of a baby I'd have to go out and buy. So a few little things like my trusty bean bag and fuzzy fur blanket and a few other things like that will not be for sale. The number one asked about prop...the pettiskirt tutus of course! We have lots but will not be selling them all as those take 6-8 weeks to order and I'm surrounded by little girls at my house :). I do have alot of tulle tutus that will all be for sale.

We have four big shelves (that break down), all of our black leather furniture, a HUGE desk and a small desk meant for a computer with the keyboard holder that slides out, my snack tray, a brand new black area rug, my really cool bench made out of an old door, curtains, and tons of random prop stuff which include all sorts of hats, fabrics, baskets, buckets, blocks etc. etc. etc.!

And YES we will be accepting credit cards!!

Abby will be graduating this next school year and we took advantage of the beutiful weather we've been having as well as the gorgeous surroundings at the Butterworth Center. I love the ones in black and white but had to show one in color to show off her gorgeous blue eyes!

Jack recently celebrated his first birthday and on this day he was back with his adoring fan club...make no mistake though, he's the president of the club and what he says goes! He had far better things to be doing like eating sticks and digging in the dirt but he did find time in his busy-ness to give me a couple of his handsome smiles!
