However, there are certain cases that make control impossible. Admitting that is the first step. The next two steps urge the person to appeal to a higher power. Many critics of the 12 step program assert that the system is too religious in nature. The second step asserts that the person needs to believe in a higher power and the third contends that the person needs to turn his life over to God. The forth step is the moral inventory. This step is another one closely tied to religion as anyone who has sat in a confessional will attest. The moral inventory leads to the fifth level of the 12 step program in which the individual admits his wrong-doing to himself, those close to him and to God as well. The sixth step is ironically similar to step one. The individual relinquishes power. Instead of being powerless to the harmful element, he becomes powerless to God. The higher being is responsible for removing the negative aspects of the individual’s character. This passive approach to recovery has been criticized as well. The next three levels involve apologizing and making amends for the wrongs the individual had committed. I do a considerable amount of freelancing, so the luxury of being able to do all my work on the go, when I want, and from where I want, makes my life almost feel like a permanent vacation. And when I am done with my 17 inch notebook, I slip it into my laptop computer sleeve, and can carry it around me anywhere. It is no burden at all, because of its light weight, and though I occasionally worry about having it stolen, or accidentally damaged, so far no harm has come to my computer. My sturdy 17 inch notebook has really revolutionized my life. Of course, for many people, getting a new 17 inch notebook computer like I have done might be a bad idea. If you are not good at keeping track of your stuff, it is a definite no. You could easily lose your 17 inch notebook computer, along with all of your work and data, due to one careless mistake.

The craze of playing poker has swept the nation. Our neighbors love to play cards and we get together often to have a few drinks and snacks and to play cards. It seems as soon as my neighbor starts losing at a particular game we have to learn another one. His latest game that he wanted to teach us is 3 card poker. I have had trouble learning how to place bets with other poker games, but he assured me that this is one of the easiest pokers to learn how to play. Considering we play for chips and not money I was game to try something new. My neighbor’s wife is like I am when it comes to playing cards. Holding the cards in our hands is an excuse to get together and visit. I do not care if we play 3 card poker or crazy 8’s, I like getting together for drinks, food and gossip. The neighbor said all we needed to play 3 card poker was a standard deck of fifty two playing cards. He said that 3 card poker involves two different games that are played at the same time. I thought this sounded complicated, but he assured me that one of the games takes no skill at all, the dealers hand is immaterial and there is no discarding. My husband had never played 3 card poker before either. We teased my neighbor that he only wanted to play 3 card poker to increase his own chances of winning, being he was playing with three people who had never heard of the game before. He said the game had been around a long time and was also called tri-card poker. None of us had heard of tri-card poker either. We started playing and at first it seemed that there had to be something missing because it was so easy to learn. By the third round we all had the hang of playing 3 card poker and my neighbor’s wife was building up quite a pile of chips. After playing for 45 minutes our neighbor decided that we should play something other than 3 card poker. His reason was that he thought it was too simple of a game to be playing. The real reason was that his wife had most of his chips! We decided to play one of our other favorite games, but I am sure that in the future we will try 3 card poker again because it really was fun and easy to play.

And of course, good 4 season tents can be prohibitively expensive, running upwards of $500 dollars sometimes. Compare this to a 1-2 person summer tent that you might buy at your camping store. I got mine for $30 dollars and, although it provides little warmth, it works alright during the summer when combined with a decent sleeping bag. The truth of the matter is, it is important to think about what you will be doing before you go out and buy expensive mountaineering equipment and 4 season tents that you will not need. You must make sure that your equipment fits its purpose.

My husband and I live in a recreational area in central Minnesota. As with most recreation areas throughout the country this means we have many 4 wheelers that are used around us. We have 4 wheelers ourselves that we use to plow snow from our driveway, haul wood from the wood pile to the house and to travel the recreation trails that are in the area. We also use our 4 wheelers during deer hunting season to get back to our deer stands and to help carry the deer out of the woods. I think they are a useful and fun vehicle; however there are so many people that use their 4 wheelers to destroy the natural beauty of our State. We are fortunate enough to have paths in the acreage behind our home for 4 wheelers. We use the paths to go from one neighbor’s home to another and to simply walk in the woods. The wooded area where the paths are located is quite dense and filled with very old beautiful hardwood maples and ash trees. This wooded area is tax forfeited land, so it is owned by the State of Minnesota. There is an agreement among the neighbors that we will all do our part to keep the paths cleared of brush and fallen debris. We have not had rules or guidelines about the use of 4 wheelers on the paths. Everyone used common sense and was courteous of each other as well as nature. Recently our path system was discovered by a group of 4 wheelers that are now using it as a connection from one racing area to another. Due to the noise the racing causes and the damage that these 4 wheelers are doing to the wooded area the department of natural resources has stepped in and band the use of ATV’s in this wooded area. This has been a great disappointment to those of us that were using our 4 wheelers responsibly. When I mentioned this to some of my co-workers I was surprised to hear how many of them thought that all ATV trails should be closed. Many people see these trails as dangerous and bad for the environment. It was amazing to me that they saw the 4 wheelers as a bad thing rather than looking at the irresponsible behavior of those driving them. The woods behind our house is much quieter now. People still use the paths to walk and enjoy nature. The thing that still bothers me is that others are getting the message that 4 wheelers are bad for nature, when the true message is that people being irresponsible is what is bad for nature.

I guess that you could call me a man's man. No – that is not quite correct. That sort of implies that I am a dude – I am not. I don't watch football, I don't like to sock my friends in the arm unless they really have it coming, and I do not really have any trouble talking about my feelings. It is just that, well, if it is a difference between living in squalor and taking the time to clean up and decorate my room, 9 times out of 10 I will chose the squalor. What a difference getting engaged has made. We went shopping for house goods the other day. The whole way to the store, my wife kept talking about the 800 thread count sheets that she wanted. I don't even know what 800 thread count sheets are, but she is very insistent on it. They cannot be 300 thread count sheets, like the ones that I had when we first met that she was complaining about from about the time that we got serious. To be honest, I can not see the difference. She has 800 thread count sheets on her bed, and claims that they are so much nice than mine, but a sheet is a sheet as far as I am concerned. I suppose if it makes her feel happy to get 800 thread count sheets, God bless her shopping trip, but it is a bit of a hassle to be dragged along on such an excursion. It is not just that she needs her expensive 800 thread count sheets. I am willing to split expenses with my dear fiancée for house goods, as for everything else. It is that she needs special 800 thread count sheets in just the right color made out of genuine Egyptian cotton. We spent all day going from one store to another, looking through sheet after sheet that, to my eye, all looked identical, and still, no perfect 800 thread count sheets. I was going absolutely crazy by the end after spending so much time staring at endless aisles of soft, fluffy pastels that all looked more or less the same to my eye. I got home from our marathon 800 thread count sheets trip and wanted to turn on some football just to spite her, but I was too tired. I went to sleep before she could even put her new 800 thread count sheets on the bed.
