-14th July 2021- Malaysian applying for UK Fiance visa

Warning this is a really long post!

This post is to record my journey (a Malaysian) to the UK on a Fiance visa during the covid-19 pandemic in 2020. It was not an easy one especially the virus has made the situation more difficult to apply.

Disclaimer: This is completely my personal experience, please do not assume every situation and the outcome will be the same as mine.

Online application was made using the UK Visa and Immigration website (the link i used - https://visas-immigration.service.gov.uk/apply-visa-type/appendixfm). PLEASE make sure you are applying the correct visa, mine is the Fiance visa, this is for those who intend to get married in the UK and continue staying in the UK after the marriage.

After creating an account with the Appendix FM partner form, there is a long form to complete and prepare all the documents needed as indicated throughout the form, there will be a checklist for the documents needed towards the end of the form.

Here is a list of documents that I provided:
- my passport
- fiance's passport & british citizen cert
- cover letter from fiance, MIL, two of our friends to prove our relationship is genuine
- about three pages of photo grid of me and my fiance with some caption on each photo, ordered by ascending timeline (to prove our relationship again)
- fiance's payslips and bank statements, employment letter, employment contract.
- council tax of the residence that I am going to stay in the UK
- email correspondence with UK registra (booking giving notice) to prove our intention to get married.
- TB test result
- my master cert and transcripts to UKNARIC to prove my English proficiency (so my Master of Economics from University Malaya is granted a CEFR level C1). If you opt for this option - UKNARIC, you will need to provide a letter issued by your university to verify the qualification and English was used in teaching, I find this is actually quite troublesome but it saves you from sitting for an English test. I was lucky that I have a Master cert as my Degree was with UKM which is famous for Bahasa as the medium of instruction, thus I can't use my Degree to apply for UKNARIC. An extra note, the service I got from UKNARIC is the visas and nationality, I think they changed their name UKNARIC to Ecctis.

So I completed the form and made payment (it was 2031 USD, not cheap yeah) on the 23rd of August, but I couldn't see any available bio appointment with KL Vfs even though they are open, it was due to the lockdown restriction and they don't open many appointments slot in a day. It was frustrating and I had been constantly refresh the link to check for any available time slot. After three days I finally managed to get a slot for 1st of Sept and it was a Premium appointment so I ended up paying about RM700 which includes document scanning service. We were actually planning to get the doc scanning service as we were confused with all the documents categories, and probably we were over-concerned that if we upload the document to the wrong category, it will complicate the process so to ease that concern, we opted for the doc scanning service.

My appointment with KL Vfs was pretty pleasant and smoother than I anticipated. The entire process (biometrics which are the photo and fingerprints + scanning documents) took about an hour.

After the biometric submission, the waiting game begins, I did not go for the priority although it was available since I need some time to prepare my emotion (it was a big decision to move to another country that is far away from your family and where you grow up) and I wanted to spend more time with my family (gosh, I miss them so much now!).

So my waiting time was around 7 weeks (35 WD) after biometrics submission on the 1st of Sept, the processing time starts from the day you go for the biometrics appointment with Vfs. I received my passport on the 21st of October, 2020.

Alright, when you thought everything settled after getting the passport with the visa vignette, then you are wrong all thanks to the covid pandemic. As Malaysia was still under lockdown (I forgot it was CMCO or RMCO, anyway this is not important), Malaysians who wish to leave the country need to apply for a pass (MTP). For this application, since I have the valid visa to enter the UK and it is a settlement route, I was not worried to get a rejection from it. For this MTP application, I provided my visa, my fiance's visa and a cover letter explaining my situation that I won't be coming to Malaysia in short term. Since there is a start and end date to leave Malaysia, I applied on the 1st of November and I was granted a Yes (exit date 11 Dec 2020 - 11 March 2021) on the 3rd of November, the process only took two days, pretty quick yeah?

Although the UK government does not need a PCR test result from the safe list countries back then, I did my first ever PCR test with Sunway Velocity drive thru test. I guess Malaysia is no longer in the safe list now, I am not sure so do check if a PCR negative result is needed before you board the plane. Also, do complete the passenger locator online form before arriving the UK, this is required by the UK government.

This post is about the name for touch n go card in other countries that I have visited.

Touch n Go card is a prepaid electronic-cash card in Malaysia, perfect for traveler or driver as this card can be used for toll/train/bus fare and paying parking.

Taiwan - 悠遊卡 (Easycard)

UK - Oyster card

Bangkok - Rabbit card

What is the name in your country?

Malaysia has Touch N Go card....

Ain't too fancy the name yet straight-to-the-point isn't it?

ps: would want to add more to the list here..

*Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh) and Philippines (Bohol Panglao Island) are not in the list as I did not travel on train, mostly on foot, or by taxi and boat..

Siem Reap (November 2016)

Gosh... Just realised my blog has been dormant for so long.....

Was and am still busy since then...

To sum up, traveled to Siem Reap for 4D3N last November (year 2016) with another two of my friends (girls' trip) and my longest flight ever to land of British gentleman (UK) in December!

Hope to visit the country (UK) again this year, guess I have fallen in love? *fingers crossed*

Alright, why not let's start with a brief update on my Siem Reap trip.

Advice to future tourist to the city, prepare USD instead of their local currency, basically everything there is sold in USD, though sometimes they might return small change in Cambodian Riel, anyway fear not, you can still pay with Riel anywhere and the locals are more than happy to explain how to convert them to USD.

Another advice, do hire a tour guide that can explain all the history in English if you are not chinese/korean/japanese and etc speaker. Tour guide has been very helpful to us in understanding their culture and you will be moved by the stories behind the wats (i.e. Angkor Wat).

Guess pictures are far more interesting than my explanation. (Simply don't want to be spoiler)

and ps: visit them (Angkor Wat and other ruins) as soon as possible as they seems to be not stable and falling apart soon. These building are pretty cool and magnificent, it is pretty sad to know that we may not be able to preserve these historical buildings, majority of them are either wrapped/support by the white cords (picture below) or woods.

Also, there will be a price hike in the entrance fee soon, or have they increased the price?

not too sure though, anyway, we bought the 3-days pass for.....can't remember.. haha

But I'm not joking about it falling apart soon.

by the way, if you find these are boring, it is suggested to change your destination,

because we spent 3 entire days walking and sight-seeing all the wats.

There are more than hundred wats if not mistaken.

I'm glad my friend asked me along, have no regrets visiting this city, though you may end up sweating all day and become super smelly at the end of the day, I think it's worth!

unfortunately, luck was not on our side, it was a cloudy day

the carvings are so detailed and delicate.

These ancient carvings were carved hundred-thousand years ago and imagine back then without the help from advanced tools/technology to do such fine carvings, impressive aren't they?

Carvings here are one of the most delicate ever amongst the wats.

and it was carved by woman.

another interesting thing about all the wats here, they were built surrounded by a pool of water.

it is for defense purposes from enemy.

after finishing our tour on second day, we cafe-hopped.

Found this hidden gem in siem reap - CRANE cafe.

am not a coffee person hence ordered chocolate drink only.

Anyway, my friends said their latte is really good, highly recommended.

Third day... yup, more wats..

last wat we visited

this was badly destroyed by war.

Reason for wars, the soldier or enemy came to take the Gold that was embedded inside each bricks.

Just heart broken to see the damage.

Day 6, 7 and 8 in Taiwan

Day 6: 花蓮清水斷崖;南方澳漁港＋觀景台

alright, after ten minutes.. here is the outcome and we were ready to release it to sky..

hopefully our wishes will be granted, well, appreciate even just part of it..

yup, his service starts from 8 in the morning until 6 in the evening.

later than 6pm, we have to pay him OT.

after ten points, time to move to nine points (jiufen), bet everyone who is planning to go Taiwan would have heard of this place!

sadly we only have an hour at jiufen and yes, end up we were not able to explore much..

we stayed at Xi Men for the rest of the nights (2 nights) in Taiwan..

Day 7: headed to 淡水漁人碼頭 in the morning, it is located at the nothern tip of Taiwan

saw some actor filming, couldn't recognise them though

seem like gay to me, one of them was wearing blue coat (the one standing right beside the pillar) and another one wearing pink (the one sitting at the tip of the ship)

anyhow, we continue our sight-seeing..

time to learn some Taiwan history

well, history is a boring subject to me, as well as the others..

so we stayed a while in the museum only and head to 陽明山國家公園 after lunch..

this place is still full of volcanic activities

with the volcanic activities, inevitably the air is filled with strong and pungent smell - sulphur.

for those who cannot read Mandarin, this is ShihLin night market

one of the famous night market in Taipei.

before going in, got attracted by this prawn fishing stall and here we go, fishing prawn..

It was indeed a very interesting game/activity to do..

my turn to fish.. it's a lot harder than I thought..

Day 8 / Last Day in Taiwan:

中正紀念堂

a place to commemorate the contribution of Sun Yat Sen (i suppose, correct me if otherwise)

well, Taiwan is one of the home of chinese descendants.

After visiting Sun Yat Sen, we headed to 貓空

it requires about 1 hour of drive to the top of the 貓空hill, but it only takes you around 30 minutes if i remember correctly by taking cable car.

it will be a fantastic ride if the sky is clear, sadly it was not..

basically there was nothing much to do in 貓空茶園

i would suggest to just scrap this out from your list if you are going, and also those museum if you are not interested.

our last stop: Taipei 101 before heading back to KL

Taipei 101 is 101-storey tall standing at 509.2 metres

we had quick dinner as we bought ticket to go up to the viewing deck (time 6:30pm)

this famous tuned mass damper is designed to withstand earthquake tremors and typhoon winds which always hit Taiwan.

Day 4 and 5 in Taiwan

Day 4: 清境農場

the weather here is just nice, a little cold for me though..

yea, those who know me well, my cold tolerance is very low, jacket is a must for me in the air-conditioned room.

and the temperature here is like inside an air-conditioned room, but since I walked around, so ain't that cold.

it's the most beautiful place in Taiwan so far..

it was a clear sky the day we visited! lucky us!

oh yes...forgot to mention, there are sheep...everywhere

it would be much nicer if there is a cafe here..

ahh...i miss this place a lot~

guess what.. they know how to drink from the tap.. incredible huh?

careful..shits are everywhere too...

since shits are everywhere, we decided to sit on the wood instead...

enjoying the view..

there was a horse-riding performance by the local tribe..

oh right, the tour guide dropped us on top of the mountain and we had to walk down these stairs..

there are a lot of worm along the walkway..

made me feel so uneasy...

next destination: 小瑞士花园

basically there is nothing much to see here.. entrance fee required..

one of the main attraction to me here was..

a shop selling paper-made souvenirs..纸箱王

it's very interesting and the things are cute...

after this, we went back to our hotel for hot spring..

stayed at 廬山溫泉會館,

according to our tour guide, this area has been restricted by government and villagers there should evacuate their home for safety purpose as this area is prone to landslide..

we were lucky there is nothing happen during our stay..

was so worried as our hotel is located right beside a hill, what if landslide does happen..GG

anyhow, shall we proceed to Day 5?

we woke up very early in the morning..hmm.. 3 in the morning for sun rise at 合欢山, the journey took around 2 hours..

it is a 3416 metre high mountain in Central Taiwan. The peak of this mountain lies on the boundaries of Nantou and Hualien counties, so our next destination after this is Hualien county!

And 合欢山 is within the Taroko National Park, so we took a tour at Taroko National Park first before heading to Hualien county, which is located at eastern Taiwan.

this is much much colder than the Cing Jing farm..

it is about 4 degree celcius the day we were there..

Gosh, the tour guide said normal jacket will do..

I was nearly freeze to death..

can you tell how cold is it based on their expression?!

I got stucked in the van because it was too cold outside,

even in the van, I shivered non-stop.. no kidding!!

My nose was terribly in pain too as it was too cold until it dried out..

definitely a new experience! Was so thrilled to see these view yet it was super cold,

yea, I'm saying it again, it was very cold!!!

guess, the view worth the coldness..

after the sun rise, we straight head to Taroko National Park.. 太鲁阁

after Taroko National Park, we headed to Hualien county..

First stop in Hualien county is 七星潭, i guess it is translated as seven stars beach?

nice place to chillax...

and I found love-shaped stone...

it was a long day (journey started at 3am), so we called the day off around 3pm,

reached hotel at 4pm, took some evening nap before hunting for dinner~

it was night market again!

on our way to the night market - 東大門夜市,

spotted this tempting steamboat restaurant.

tasted not bad!

After a light dinner, continue our walk to the night market..

such a cute dog..

in Taiwan, you can see dogs everywhere, some in the stroller, hell yeah! the dog is in the stroller instead of baby..

aren't these cute???

should have bought one! grrr...

alright, i'll skip the dinner at the night market then..

Day 2 and 3 in Taiwan

Day 2 in Taiwan

visited this twin pagodas in the morning, 蓮潭池 aka water lilies pond.

Looking back how far had we walked,

approximately 30 minutes of walk if you stop-by at all the pagodas along the walk way..

it's huge!!

we had vegetarian lunch here, the buffet lunch is very cheap, don't remember how much though..

guarantee it is cheap!

third stop: 新社古堡 aka XinShe Castle

require to pay some entrance fee

look at this lake, it doesn't seem like there will be a lot of fish in it right..

yup, all about castles..

well, apparently there are many!

and even black swans

fourth stop:

flowers everywhere..

right, there is entrance fee too for the maintenance cost, not too expensive..

went to 逢甲夜市 for dinner!

yeap, dinner at night market again~

the food sold in this night market are basically more or less the same as the one we had in KaoShiung.

grilled scallop! yummy!

emm..hmmm this cheese baked potatoes with bacon was nice..

but nothing beats this...fish roe pizza!

Accommodation for day 2: Green Hotel at TaiChung

verdict: service not bad and the rooms are still very new!

Recommendation: 5 out of 5 points

Day 3

headed to SunMoon lake at Yuchi Township, Nantou County

Sun Moon Lake is the largest man-made freshwater lake in Taiwan

in order to keep the water clean and clear (indeed the water is very clear!), only limited authorized companies take care of the water transportation.

it was overwhelming view from the top of the hill..

it is a themed-park like Sunway Lagoon/Genting in Malaysia

i was feeling a little dizzy after the Maya Adventure ride, so it was a "pass" for me..

yeah, shall not force myself, hmm, this has just reminded that i need to go for a body check soon..

will see whether I'm really having low blood pressure or not,

it is uncommon for someone to feel dizzy or blackout so easily, don't you think so?

going up.. it goes up to 10-15 floors high?!

#Candidature of #MEc

A quick update before post about the Taiwan trip...

received this letter two days ago (10th June 2016),

so...yes, confirmed graduating this year! ^^

achieved another resolution for year 2016!

looking back past two years, it was tough but yeah no regret..

Master of Economics, even myself can't believe that I have really done it.

All the best to those are still pursuing their postgraduate study..

It ain't easy but never give up if that's your goal..

A lot of people asked, why did you choose econ over stat?

well, I guess it is just purely based on interest,

go for the subject that you are interested in is much easier than studying the subject that you think you should do or common road taken by everyone (which in my case statistics)..

Don't be fear if the road is not generally taken, just go with your heart, you'll explore more.

Taiwan Day 1

Sorry for the long-overdue post,

I was quite occupied at work and full with events over the weekend.

so here we are, first day of Taiwan!

Landed at KaoShiung, well, KaoShiung is the industrial area, thus not much of nice view.

Taken from a temple, forgot the name already.

This is the bus that brought us around Taiwan.

Next stop, 高雄旗津.

We had to take ferry, the air was...erm..slightly unhealthy, quite hazy.

headed back to hotel to freshen up and continue with food hunting as the hotel is near to 逢甲夜市， Feng Jia Night market.

This cafe was spotted on our way to the night market.

It is very pretty with good environment, wanted to try but we have not much time to explore, thus straight headed to the night market.

here we are, only 10 minutes of walking distance from our hotel.

Food hunting begin:

1st station: 大肠包小肠

basically it is just sausage wrapped with sticky rice

verdict: taste normal, not really fond of it

I personally don't like this especially the smell

oh yum yum~

seafood in crab shell, now this really caught my attention, it is really nice.

For those who knows mandarin, try to read this from bottom and ignore the "prawn".. =P

hahaha~ sorry, no offence okay!

and so we found out everyone was carrying this papaya milk smoothies,

bought one to try.

Surprisingly, this is like yoghurt and yes i like yoghurt drink!

Since KaoShiung is also one of the harbor in Taiwan,

we decided to try their seafood.

Randomly picked one of the restaurants in the street,

and we ordered....

lobster... Price wise, not too expensive and i forgot the price, hahaa~

After done eating at the night market,

the old folks went back to the hotel to rest,

and how about the youngster?

no doubt we continue our exploration.

It was the first day so we all were fired up! hahaa

not sure did I posted these cute things that I have gotten from friends..

1. Animated potrait of myself from my ex-colleague

2. Hp cover from my colleague also or shall i say she is my close friend in the office.. so the cat is dreaming of apple?? meow~

3. Sister's minion file holder, she is such a fan of minion~

4. Well, she always buy me things that she likes, three little cute metal boxes for storage purpose.
I'm using it to store my headset and pendrives.

5. Okay, this was not from any of my friend, instead, I bought this for my sister~ two fluffy marimo~

6. Angpao with Monkey as theme (zodiac for 2016 in chinese lunar calendar)

7. Both snow globe (souvenir from UK) and pikachu given by my friend in the office~ that's so sweet of him~

8. lastly, Taiwan souvenir from the same friend at point 7.. Small-sized lantern and leather key chain with my name handcrafted on it.. Alright, these two may not be cute but the leather key chain is cool, isn't it?

Long overdue new year resolution...

First of all, (1) travel!!!
bought flight ticket to Taiwan in April! so it is partially achieved! hahaha..
Planning to go Cambodia after my graduation in October!
owh, speaking of graduation, graduating from a master degree would be my second (2) new year resolution! :P please pray that I can pass my thesis with flying colours *cross fingers*

(3) this would be set on the health aspect.
Due to the constant comments from people around me that I look pale and my brother even suggested it might be symptom of anemia, gg if that's true... shall go for a thorough body check this year, no more delay again, last year was fully-occupied and even after the thesis submission, workload at the office has never lessen. well, ain't regret of pursuing master, rather, I think I enjoy this kind of occupied life. I enjoy learning every day and lived my life to the fullest last year.
Other than the body check, shall maintain my weight also, hopefully manage to cut down some more weight this year, though I have lost 4kg last year.. LOL

This is dedicated to my dearest friend..

She may not be the first friend that I have made...
but we have known each other since standard One...
though we were not close then...
until high school, we get closer...
We laughed, discussed on homework, gossip and etc every single weekday...
everyone in the school know we are really good friend as we were always seen together except tuition and going home..
well, we did argue sometimes over some little things but were good afterwards within the day...
We can even memorize each other's house number when there was no handphone...
those were the good memories...
we may not hang out very often after graduating from school...
you are still my best-est friend ever...
Stay positive and surgery tomorrow will be smooth..

paid a visit to District 21..

tried almost all the obstacles there, some of them are under maintenance which explains why only tried almost all the obstacles..

it was a great experience and fun if you like sky trails and similar activities..

the sky trails seems easy yet it was not easy at all..

First time ever in rock climbing!

a sport that requires arm and upper body strengths a lot,

basically the entire body strength.

My brother and his gf in action, I was too tired to climb again..

well, the truth is I injured my elbow..

it hurts a lot! ouchhh~

扑街(fall down) at launch pad (the trampoline).

don't underestimate this wound,

it's excruciatingly painful...

the area is big enough to cause you tingling sensation when u try to stretch your arm,

all thanks to its strategic location - elbow!

couldn't do much exercise (especially badminton) for maybe 2 weeks I guess..

Gosh, it's so inconvenient to do anything,

couldn't stretch my arm freely, have to take things slowly..

is it going to leave a scar?

Guess my body isn't as strong as back then.. Running nose for like...5 or 6 days, starting to have slight coughing, but no fever so yeah, no MC for me..

Hope these medicine would be effective in stopping the flu and cough...

With these minor illness, the exhaustion after working "magnified"!

Went to Publika to meet up with two close friends back in my undergraduate life..

We had lunch at Fahrenheit600(?) After lunch we proceed to Whimsical for some dessert.

I like this table!

We ordered this signature dish : cotton candy affogato

Verdict : we love it, guess this is not over-rated by the bloggers. you need to pour the warm coffee on top of the cotton candy and it will melts the cotton candy blending together with the coconut-gula melaka ice cream that is "hidden" in the cup. The melted cotton candy sweeten the bitterness of the coffee.

We are still crazy and silly whenever and wherever the three of us gather..

We share stories, experiences and our very own opinions..

The greatest part is, we laughed out loud like no one else business..

And we can laugh at anything, random cold or funny jokes are told at time, non-stop laughter being with them..

I cherish the friendship that we have and guys, do take care! even though we are going our path separately, I believe we can still be crazy together when we meet up again.. Till next time~

had lunch at this newly opened Thai cuisine restaurant - Triffin

the interior design is based on vintage concept

decorated with these old metal containers and some soy sauce bottle

Isn't it cool?

their appetizers are in the container

unique huh?

verdict: the soup was not fragrant and sour enough..

won't be ordering this the next visit..

Green curry chicken&seafood

this was pretty nice

yummy and im drooling~

let's have a closer look..

these dishes cost around 20-30myr

yea, normal price range to have meal in this kind of restaurant
