How’s This Work: Variable Cylinder Management

It’s time for December’s How’s This Work, and this month we’re going to take a look at a technology that is popping up in a majority of our Honda models recently. Honoring fallen Edmonton police officer Constable Daniel Woodall

It's easy to forget the risks police officers take each and every time they put on their uniforms, but when tragedy hits home, we are all swiftly reminded of what is on the line. Sadly, that type of tragedy recently took place Edmonton, when eight-year Edmonton Police Service member Constable Daniel Woodall was fatally shot while serving an arrest on June 8. Honda Technology: Steel & Aluminum Bonding

Honda has made a breakthrough with newly developed technology to join steel and aluminum, and have applied it to enable adoption of aluminum for an outer door panel, which had previously been made of steel. What this means for consumers is that this new process gives them the ability to create door panels that are steel on the inside and aluminum on the outside. This cuts the weight of the door panels by roughly 17%, which should reduce fuel consumption and dynamic performance of Honda vehicles. They also mention that "In addition, weight reduction at the outer side of the vehicle body enables [us] to concentrate the point of gravity toward the center of the vehicle, contributing to improved stability in vehicle maneuvering." This technology will be coming first in vehicles for North American consumption -- something that will certainly excite our customers here in the greater Edmonton area with our ever-fluctuating gas prices. The completely redesigned 2013 Honda Accord Coupe has earned the highest available safety rating – a 5-Star1 Overall Vehicle Score from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The 2013 Accord Coupe joins Accord Sedan in earning a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from NHTSA and a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating with GOOD ratings in all test modes from the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). For model year 2013, all tested Honda models have earned a TOP SAFETY PICK or TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the IIHS (only the Civic Coupe has not been tested). Read More

2013 Honda Accord Touring V6 Review

Honda has made much ado about this new Accord. It's all new, inside and out. I test-drove two new Accords briefly at AJAC's Test Fest - one was a 4-cylinder sedan, and one was a V-6 coupe. Both impressed me, but I was excited to try this one out - because I thought this would be the model and trim I'd purchase for my family if I was in the market. The Accord starts at CDN $23,990. I had the Touring trim, which comes with every box checked off and doesn't have any options available other than the engine choice. I was blessed with the V-6 (the top of the line car then) and the price, as tested, is CDN $36,930. Read More
