I was quite hopeful in that one I must say. My HG diagnosis...well I did not realize what was coming my way. To recap...I ended up cycling back down, changing doctors, and going on home health care. A subcutaneous pump became my new best friend for the next few months along with Zofran. Slowly I was on the mend and on a wonderful winter day, my daughter arrived. I love my little one and it has been a rollercoaster of epic proportions, but truly it has been the best ride. My dear husband has become quite the loving dad and we can not believe she will be two! So, internet, I apologize for falling off the face of the earth and all, but there were some important things to take care of namely...a little girl with almond shaped eyes and a smile that never seems to fade.

I will be sure to post more often, but good night for now. I hope to be more productive in the coming days. However, I thought that before the bad weather...will clue you in to that as well. Time sure has passed quickly. I moved, settled into my new job and decided that wasn't enough change within a year. So, my dear husband and I left things to fate and now we are expecting. I will be 13 weeks this Thursday and let me tell you...this sucks. I was blissfully happy in the beginning, just eating, having a great time, you know that saying "ignorance is bliss?" Well it is, especially in my case. At week 7 it began with just an unsettled feeling in my stomach. I would eat carefully and stuck with ginger ale and crackers. I felt better by the afternoon and was sure that I could get through this. By week 8 I was cursing the very hormones that were ensuring that the being growing inside of me was alright. I was ill, and by ill, I mean I moved up my doctor appointment so I could figure out if this was all normal. Apparently, it wasn't.

The doctor said that if things did not improve, I should call him. After another week of constant meds so I could keep food down, it became apparent (more to my husband) things were not right. I was stationed on the couch due to the proximity and easy access to a trashcan for retching purposes. My next appointment was coming up and I was determined to make it (I mean, what other choice did I have). My husband was leaving for work that Monday morning after a particularly bad weekend (I couldn't keep fluids down for 15 minutes at a time) when he said, "You need to call the doctor and reschedule your appointment". My husband was getting to the point that leaving me at home was scaring him. I was feeling a little energetic that morning (meaning I had not retched yet), so I called. That is when this whole thing got real scary. The nurse relayed to me that the doctor needed me to go the hospital immediately. I called my husband and he quickly turned around after making a few phone calls. Now, we had just informed our families of the news the week prior.

I was unable to travel so my husband was the gift bearer. My family has always called me the dramatic one, and at first, that is what some believed. However, I ended up staying at the hospital for 5 days. Constant IV drip, blood work, and no food. Yup. I was allowed only a liquid diet, which my friends, is not fun. Constant drugs, fluids, and other items were being poured into my body for five days, and the last day is when I started to feel human, and when I was allowed a soft food diet. I have never been happier to eat a slice of tomato, sweet potato tater tots, and cooked ground beef. I even took a picture of it I was so happy. I am a bit ahead of myself though. The second day is when we received the news that I had been diagnosed with Hyperemesis Gravidurm (further known as HG). You heard correctly. This is the same thing Princess Kate Middleton was diagnosed with at the beginning of her pregnancy (which the birth should occur any day now). Apparently, just looking this information up on the internet scared my husband bad enough that he called in for reinforcements-my mother-in-law. Believe me, this was a god send. My husband could go to work knowing that I was being taken care of and then come after work to visit.

This was my first hospital visit and it was not pleasant. I was praying that my little one was okay, that I would someday eat solid food again, and man I wanted to eat EVERYTHING I saw on television. When I was released, I was able to eat biscuits with jam and then some mac n cheese. However, since I had not eaten in what felt like forever, my stomach and energy level was short on supply. I could literally only eat a handful of food at a time. Without meds, I was beginning to gag. Oh, did I mention the phytalism? Yes, when you are prego you produce more saliva. However, when you have this HG thing, you produce not only more but it is thick and gags you. You can't swallow it, it sticks in the back of your throat, and makes you want to hurl. So I am now acting like a sailor, spittoon and all. For the first week at home it was nice, my MIL made meals, helped clean, and just helped me feel better. She stayed for a week and it was glorious.

After her leaving, my husband has taken up a lot of the slack. He has been my main champion, making sure I had anything I needed before leaving for the day. Just checking on me throughout his day. Overall, being an already attentive dad. He never has said anything about my vomiting (even though it is hard for him to stomach). I have major skin, hair, and just looks issues currently, but my husband still says that I am beautiful. I know he is creating this one lie to make it through the day though.

I am up to the level of showering almost regularly and not blacking out in there (major accomplishment). However, about a week ago, I started to not feel hungry and want to eat. This is only starting a horrid cycle. No meds+no food=vomit. Don't get me wrong, it is not anything like the exorcist-like spewing machine that I was, but hurling is not fun even if it is just once a day (okay maybe twice here or there). I am still taking my meds and my next doctor appointment is Wednesday. I am nervous and hope that everything is okay, but sometimes we never know with these things.

So as I lounge around (so motion doesn't have my stomach roiling) I will continue to just exist, losing weight a bit each day. I have plenty stored, so the kid should be fine. Either way, welcome to my little adventure, which I am pretty sure will be the last time I get on this roller coaster ride if this keeps up. I will definitely be keeping you all informed, because this will make a great record (for later blackmail) for the little one. Sleep well internet, and if someone tells you that they have HG, you better try to do anything you can for them because they may need that lifeline to survive.

Really?!

Okay internet, I know I should be keeping better track of things...but you know how summer can be. I get into a good book, or decide to go see a movie (which there are a number of good ones out there this year). But apparently I have become quite sidetracked. I promised to write on this more often than not and I have not even been able to keep my own promise to myself. Foolish me. So I will back track a few and tell you what I have been up to since last being on here.

I went traveling! Okay, not to any exotic place...Houston by the way of Dallas. I was quite productive in Dallas...got my job lined up. Then headed down to Houston for my sister's baby shower. This was enjoyable, yet stressful since I was helping with all that. I never realized how much goes into shower-throwing...but man. So the shower was a hit-food, games, and all that jazz. I enjoyed some time with my family, even went to the beach with my niece! She drove, which was kind of scary since she is all of seventeen. We arrived safely and beat all of the 4th of July crowds! I know that in and of itself is a feat, right? Well, we left at 6:30 in the morning and arrived around 7:45. We played in the sand and sun until noon and then headed back, but I tell you what, a day at the beach heals all wounds of life. I felt rejuvenated after that little trip. Plus, I took some sea shells back with me. So, my little trip ended on July 5th and now I am home, getting my house ready for the big move. I am looking forward to this little change more and more now. I am finally adjusting and getting with the program as my husband would say. Well I am going to go and get to packing. I will write again...maybe even tomorrow. Until then-ta ta!

Getting over change...

Yes, Internet. I am slowly getting over my little pity session. There could be a whole different set of reasons that I am in a slump. So I will gladly take this one, due to the fact that it isn't bad. So I will move on to other things.

See, I have this novel I have been working on for two or so years. Okay, to be honest...it has sat on my computer for two or so years and I worked steadily on it for about five months. I also co-wrote it with a very good friend. We have about 11 chapters completed, which is more than I have ever written I believe. So getting that far is terrific, but I really have this goal in mind to finish it before the summer ends. Of course, my friend has also had three children in the past two or so years. Her input may be a little slow in coming.

Needless to say, since I am a standstill in my life with moving not happening until the end of July and packing not happening this month because I still have to live in my house and not out of boxes...well I was thinking I should get back on that horse. So I believe that the next couple of days I am going familiarize myself with the characters and plot lines...and get writing again. It sure helps that my husband is too busy to bother me though...

Well I wish everyone a happy Tuesday and I am, well, going to go read a book...tomorrow though-I will continue writing one!

Life altering changes

Life altering changes can mean a move, a job change, the loss of friendships to a myriad of other things. Internet, I am making some very life altering changes...once again due to my spouse. We are moving. With moving there are others changes...packing/realizing you were a bit of a hoarder...and changing jobs. Change is not something that I am quite fond of you see, but truly- who is? I wonder about my path in life and why it seems so important to keep notes of these changes. With this most recent one, I am more apt to crying and looking at the sunset with a dream hidden behind my eye. You see, I did not want this change. I know, most changes are out of your control and you do not want them either way. But still. I was home here. A true little home, with friends that were like family, a job I loved, and my roots are quite deep. Tearing them out and transplanting them will be difficult. I also am aware that I am not truly leaving those individuals that had such a profound effect on me here, but the distance makes the heart hurt...or is it grow fonder? Well who knows. I am quite aware that this post is a bit like a babble but you know me. I babble often. I will make an attempt to write more and live more as well. Until then, good night internet. May your dreams never involve life altering change.

Changes...

Spring is coming. Internet, you can feel it in your bones and see it as the first buds from which leaves will spring forth show up on the trees around you. With these small seasonal changes, I too am making some strides. I will be moving in the near future, yet again. A new home, a new job, a new land awaits me. However, the timeline alludes me and makes these changes ever more difficult. I never believed that I would stay here for the remainder of my time on this earth, but it has become home. The sirens on Saturday, the cold winter nights, the friends and faces I see each and every day, will all change in a matter of months. My life is somewhat at a standstill, but all around it keeps going. So, I too, will keep going. Of course, the phrase "Home is where you make it" comes to mind...so yes-my home will be made again.

Moments of great happiness/sadness

Internet, have you ever wondered if happiness could possible co-exist with sadness or sorrow? Well I have it on good authority that they can and do. See, I received some wonderful news from my sister Christmas day...she is pregnant. Yup...extreme happiness right? At the same time, my heart literally broke in two. I am now the only daughter in my family that has yet to give my mother a grandchild, my husband a son or daughter, a child to carry on a legacy. I realize they (my family) even speak in hushed tones around me when speaking of children. Now, internet, it is not because I have chosen this...not at all. I love my husband and we have been blissfully happy for going on nine years now. However, kids have eluded us for some time, and not because of the lack of trying. So Christmas day I received that phone call, a text messaged sonogram with it and I could barely keep it together on the phone. I thought I did well, but apparently those hushed tones came back after they hung up. I heard from reliable sources that they were upset they made me cry. But see Internet, I can honestly say I was crying because of the happiness I felt for them. But what they will never know is the tears of sorrow that came directly after that or the emptiness that still remains.

Saturday Night...

I have so much to do at this time of year. However, I get so distracted when chilling on the internet. Does anyone else have this issue? I mean, just meandering on the internet sucks up all my time. I have spent the majority of today looking at amazon.com, itunes.com, and all the various email accounts I own. Seriously. I just now realized it is 1:30 in the morning and I have work stuff that I need to get done before Monday. So, with the internet sucking up my time, I now have a heck of a Sunday to complete a lot of what I should have done today. Is this the internet's fault? Nope. I can look at myself in the mirror and see...I am the queen of procrastination. I did some training, cut out my exercising because of the heat, and visited my family south of here. I also was reminded of how old I really am getting when my niece drove me around while in town to see my family. Yup. That is correct Internet. My niece was driving me around. I think she did so only to add driving hours, but hey she needed a licensed driver and she wasn't bad. I wouldn't go so far as to say she was perfect and I felt completely at ease while she drove, but it did give us some great time to bond. I also visited with my nephew who loves books and we had some terrific conversations about them as well. My youngest niece was a little hesitant of me at first, but that quickly went away. Why was she hesitant? Well I am unable to visit as often as I would like, so I am just not that familiar. The one thing I wanted to do while in town was to go to the beach. Sadly, I never made it. To hear the ocean's roar as I soaked in the sun's delicate rays would have been wonderful...maybe next time. I also have been keeping busy with watching old movies such as SOUTH PACIFIC, GUYS AND DOLLS, MY FAIR LADY, and THE PERFECT WIFE among others. I enjoy the effortless evenings, the ability to read all the time, and snuggle time with my husband and my pups. Sadly, we did lose one of our girls this summer-Dori. Our sweet kitty who we adopted off the streets when we were living in an apartment years ago. We will forever miss her, but she is in a better place now. Well until another day...good night Internet.

Dreams...

Summertime is a time for long naps in the afternoon and wonderful sunsets, right Internet? Well I took a nap today and the dream the appeared was NOT an ordinary dream. See, I began my dream with walking down the side of Highway 59 in the Houston Texas area. This was not abnormal since that is my hometown and all. However, when LADY GAGA and her tour bus stopped next to me, that is when it began to jump out of the ordinary. Lady Gaga stopped and began to walk alongside me. We discussed such things as politics and religion. I know, weird right? Well she then asked why I was walking. I told her my car was not with me. She simply stated then that she would buy me one. <br /><br />So we walked until we found a service station for a dealership. However, there were no cars. Upon finding this out, we then began our trip back to her tour bus and the highway. However, upon reaching said bus, it had turned into a boat on a river...that was once Highway 59. It does not stop there though. Lady Gaga then tethers me to her boat and begins to drag me behind it as if I am water skiing. I have never done so in my life, so that was a bit odd as well. She takes the wheel of the boat and begins to make these ridiculous turns in the river quite rapidly. The line I am tethered with is so taunt that it takes out random trees which are standing in the river! I have to begin dodging tree limbs flying at my face as Lady Gaga laughs hysterically at me. We continue on this path, until we magically reach my house...in OKLAHOMA. No clue. She then unties me and apologizes for not being able to buy me a car. I say it is no big deal since I own a working and wonderful '89 Buick. She then waves and carries off into the setting fog. <br /><br />My husband, upon realizing that I was with Lady Gaga, gets supremely pissed at me. We don't speak a word to each other for a week. Then a delivery arrives for me...from Lady Gaga...a beautiful Maserati Grand Turismo. I take it for a spin and it drives like a dream (funny huh...) but then my husband demands to drive it. He is so pissed at me for hanging out with Lady Gaga that he WRECKS MY NEW CAR. As I am yelling at him, I wake up. Now, Internet, what do you think this dream means? Anything? Or is it just a summertime fever dream? I guess I will never know.

Sunshine...how I have missed you

Internet, I have been gone a while. I apologize, although I am sure there are not that many that see this little spot of mine in the ether. I have enjoyed my time today. I drove slow, windows down, enjoying the breeze in my short hair. Smiled at the dog hanging out the window lapping up the air as it passed me. <br /><br />I ate a tuna salad sandwich with glee and my taste buds tangoed with a wonderful frozen lemonade. I am living it up Internet. I am enjoying every moment of summer. It only comes once a year. Many people I know complain about the heat, humidity, or even the rain when it decides to crash the party. You know how things get, it IS summer time you know. The time where you spend weekends (or weekdays) drinking a sweet wine, or staying up until the wee hours of the morning reading. You might even try to stay awake all night to see a partial lunar eclipse only to be disappointed when it looks like a cookie with a bite out of it. Well I have been busy gearing up for the school year which is fast approaching. I realize I look forward to getting office supplies and my sleeping habits are starting to change up. No more sleeping in until 10 a.m. for me! Well any hoo...I am sorry I haven't been on in a bit. <br /><br />So where was I? Oh yes, the stories of summers past. Well do you remember Kerri Strugg? I do. Why? Mostly because my sister and I were OBSESSED with her, the summer Olympics, and gymnastics. I think every girl goes through the phase of wanting to be some terrific athlete like a gymnast at some point in their life, right? Well, that summer we got up early and watched t.v. like is was our crack. Now during the summer my parents typically kicked us out of the house until the street lights came on, insisting we get exercise. Which, now when I look back, was really a great thing. However, we convinced our parents we were being truly patriotic for staying in and rooting on our team. <br /><br />We got our Barbies out and made them into gymnasts, doing floor routines and such. The fun though really began when Christine (you knew she was included) took up the responsibility of coaching us in our gymnastic endeavors. We used the front lawn for our floor routines. Our swing set was converted into the parallel bars (minus one bar-don't ask). Finally, we used the back of our couch for the balance beam. See our couch was this 70s throw back with little wooden knobs on it. Hideous I know. Well, these little knobs were set about two feet apart from each other and were removable by screwing them off. Christine would "spot" us as we performed our routines. We even had the extra people (waiting their turn) sit on the couch so it wouldn't flip. Nice, right? <br /><br />Well we continued on this way for the whole summer. Not one injury to every one's amazement. We would wear our swimsuits as our uniforms, and one day Tiffany (the sister one step older than Christine) decided she wanted to play. My parents were gone and they were both in charge of us for the day/evening. Well we decided to just mess around with the whole one person lays on their back with their hands and feet ready. Another person then steps backwards into the grips of their hands while the person laying down puts their feet on the other person's butt. Then the stander would lean back and the person on the ground would then flip the over, completing a somewhat weird flip. <br /><br />We loved it and Christine was excellent at doing this. Well it was Jaclyn's turn (my little sister) and Tiffany came down stairs wanting to join us. She took Christine's spot and Jaclyn got ready to go. Well that is when things turned bad. Tiffany did not some much flip Jaclyn up but out. With a painful thud, crying ensued. As Jaclyn got up, we saw her wrist was at an unnatural angle. Chaos followed. 911 was called as were our parents. As the firemen, first responders, were trying to set her in a brace Tiffany tried to take her mind off things. <br /><br />Now Jaclyn is like 10 or so. Tiffany, a teenager with a huge thing for boys. Jaclyn was doing her thing of sniffling and whining, she was good at taking pain. Well Tiffany, trying to cheer Jaclyn up, says "Well at least the firemen are hot." What happens? Jaclyn begins wailing, not at the pain in her wrist, but because Tiffany embarrasses her. Hilarious now, not so funny when your parents come in the door at that moment. So, after that little incident, let's just say not matter how much we wanted to watch the Olympics to support our country, we were denied.

Oh the Joys of Summers Past 4

Okay Internet. I know that some of you out there have been thinking about what you did as a kid during the summer. Well do you remember sleep overs? Well they were the best, right? Yeah. For us girls, it was all about primping and gossiping. Okay, that lasted all of an hour at the most in my house. See, we would walk the walk and talk the talk until our parents went to bed. <br /><br />Now if you had ever stayed the night at our house, you would know my parents are notorious for being heavy sleepers. So heavy that my Mom actually slept through the time where a car hit our house. Yes, I will explain that at a later time. So, back to the story. We would anxiously wait for our parents to go to sleep. We had our parents schedules down pat. Seriously. We knew as soon as the box fan in our parents room came on, we could wait about 15 minutes before slipping out the front door undetected. So, we bided our time. <br /><br />I know now that what we did in the middle of the night was not the best idea, but it cured our boredom. What did we do, you ask? Well a variety of things. First starters, we would collect our necessities such as eggs, duct tape, and toilet paper. Yes Internet, we did unspeakable evil things as children. WE ACTED WITHOUT CONSCIENCE. Okay, we would typically feel bad the next day and we would go help the victim clean up, saying things like "It is so horrible what people do to others and their property, isn't it?" Well my parents' house (where all the mischief happened) is on the corner of a very busy intersection of a neighborhood. <br /><br />This is where we started our evening antics. We would create tape traps. We would line the street with the duct tape, sticky side up and wait for a car to pass. See when the tape gets stuck on the car, people think that they have a flat. They stop and in the dark try to figure out if they do. Seeing nothing, they continue on their way, but stop numerous times afterwards because of the noise. This goes on and on until they finally see the tape. Well for some reason we added eggs to this equation. We called them egg mine babies. It didn't do anything except make a mess. However, when you are kids in the middle of a heat-induced haze (because your father never NEVER used the A/C) you liked to create messes as much as possible. <br /><br />After numerous rounds of this and close calls of being caught by the drivers we then switched to toilet paper vengeance. Yes, we would look at our neighborhood and go ballistic. Not one, not even two, but possibly three houses would be hit by our summer madness. Now, we typically helped clean up in the morning, but my parents were always wondering where the toilet paper went. When asked, we would just reply, "Our neighbors needed to borrow some." I know, our actions were horrible. So Internet, you have some stories like these? Please do tell! I will rack my brain for more...oh wait...I already have a list to go by. If I lose my list, I can always check out the old videos!

Oh the Joys of Summers Past 2

Insomnia, we meet again. Okay, since you win this round I will now recount memories of summers past. Internet, have you ever done something that you wish would disappear from the depths of your soul and mind? Okay, now that you understand, I can relive the horrible atrocity of our fashion shows. As little kids, my younger siblings and I were quite interested in fashion, or really just showing off our hopes of becoming a model. At the time of growing up, models were THE thing to become. Cindy Crawford was my idol for example. I even went to a summer camp to learn the aspects of modeling. It really was some high schooler who was trying to make some money, but either way...I thought it was so cool. <br /><br />Now an important point of this story is that my family was one of the few at the time to have a video camera. Yes, the vintage type, you know the one that was like a boom box on the side of your head with a battery life of 30 minutes or so. My father was quite strict on the usage of such expensive (chuckle) items so the only time we had access to it was in fact when my parents were out. That means that one of my older siblings was left in charge. You guessed it Internet, Christine (come on, we had to have someone for hair and make-up). So after getting our outfits together, that usually consisted of our older siblings' clothes, we set up of the living room. <br /><br />We took our dining room table and placed it at the landing by our front door. Now our front door opens to this little landing and goes directly to a set of stairs leading up. This gave us the hallway for entry onto our runway. We usually covered the table with a white sheet, and had the coolest music playing. My sister Christine would then announce us and down we would come. Now, we usually broke our shows up into seasons, with each person doing their own outfit in each season. Ridiculous? I know. What was hilarious about this whole thing was that my little brother joined us. Let's just summer was interesting with his swim team speedo on. Michael Phelps had nothing on him (chuckle). <br /><br />Now just imagine big hair, 80s jewelry and clothing, mixed with little mishaps like tripping, falling off the table, or even the random dog in the shot. Yeah, summer was great, and our fashion shows were even better. However, there is a downside to these little events. Every little bit of information I just gave you, there is photographic EVIDENCE that it actually occurred. Not just the hideous outfits, not the actual proof of it happening, but the fact that you can RELIVE the events at ANY GIVEN TIME. This has not slipped the mind of my older sister Christine either. She still brings up a number of events that are still on tape somewhere, and she happens to be holding all the tapes hostage. I know, crap. So think back to those days of summer with love, and remember blackmail is NEVER cool.

Oh the joys of summers past 1

Internet, do you remember your summers as a kid? Over the next couple of weeks, I am going to relive some of those stories with you all. So here is story one because I am currently on summer break from my job, allowing me to think back when times were simply dull. Well they were considered dull if you weren't at our house. With four sisters and a brother you had plenty of playmates. However, being the younger ones you were talked into doing quite some hilarious things later. <br /><br />First, I remember the lemonade stand. EVERYONE remembers the lemonade stand bit, right? I am sure you do. But, did you have a manager? I did. My sister Christine has always had an eye on money and budgets for the longest time, even back when she started as our lemonade stand manager. We started our little production line easily enough. However when Christine got involved, things got complicated. It was quite hilarious now that I think back. She set our pricing, picked the kool-aid flavors, and we set up and sold the stuff. She stayed at home waiting for our arrival and then she collected the money. Yes, you heard me right. She made a percentage and then divided up the rest for us workers. Thinking back now, it makes me laugh. Then, it was just fact. <br /><br />We took our small amounts of money that we made and then walked up to the corner store to buy ridiculous things. I remember buying a can of silly string for $2.99 thinking I was really spending a lot of money. Wish I could go back to those days. We even had different size cups with varying prices. We always hit the busiest corner and had signs to boot! In all honesty, Christine only helped our business thrive, or at least keep us afloat. Well Internet, think back to those days. Remember how you anxiously awaited your next customer? Keep that in mind the next time you see a rag tag team of kids hawking flavors of kool-aid. Buy a cup, it sure makes good memories and the amount of sugar added to the kool-aid by the kids will make you smile if you hadn't already.
