My Visit To Halcali

I was talking to Blossoms Sweetwater the other day and she told me about this great place named SGB Resort Mall. Of course I had to teleport over to the mall as I like to explore new places. I stepped into a shop named Halcali and it was love at first site! Immediately, I had to talk to the owner and designer, icco Halcali, and here is our conversation below.

Perla: How long have you been designing in SL?
icco: I've been running my business for one and half years.
Perla: What inspired you when designing the puff sleeve dress?
icco: I wanted to make a spring dress that is why I started design outfits. The point is a big flower motif and sorbet color for Halcali design.

Perla: Do you have any special events or fashion shows planned soon?
icco: I joined Men's Fashion Week event this month. MFW is a big event so I get nervous. However, I do not have show at moment.. My dream is Someday, I want to do Halcali solo show .

Perla: Anything else you would like to add?

I have not posted anything on my blog for a long time, but the opportunity arose for me to chat with Kimmera and Nave from Tres Beau. What a great way to start off 2012!

What has Kimmera been up to the past few months?

Kim: Oh, about 5'9" without heels, hehehe. OK, seriously, December was the fabulous Miss Virtual World events and Finale, and of course there were the holidays. Outside of that I have been building a new store, preparing for the Relay for Life Fashion Fair and the upcoming Festival of Sin, a festival of fashion based on the 7 deadly sins. Also in the works are the upcoming Womenstuff and Runway Perfect hunts, and sponsoring some lovely ladies in upcoming pageants....and in my free time (coughs)...playing some BYNGO, I'm sort of hooked, I blame Frolic Mills.

How is life with Nave Fall?

Kim: Nave who? hehehe... Living with Nave is an endless life of laughter. He's my best friend, my major comedy relief, devoted supporter and a man I admire immensely and love deeply. I am a very lucky Lady :)

Nave: Nave Fall's SLife is very good. I have good friends to enjoy it with and the time to take advantage of that.

Have you been staying out of trouble?

Nave: I've ceased being the angry, snarky, voice of SL fashion reason, if that's what you're asking. So I get in less trouble and Kim gets complained to less about my behavior.

Nave, do you have anything special to say? Anything controversial?

Nave: I think that there is going to be a shake out in the modeling agency realm. It's an expensive, and frustrating, hobby for most owners and without a business model that generates a profit they will abandon it to the larger, more successful ones.

Hmm, interesting. Let's see if Nave's prediction is correct. In the meantime, Check out Tres Beau and if you are lucky you might spot Kim and Nave!

Perla's back from a little break. I took some time exploring the world from Bora Bora to Japan and then Australia. All on SL of course..Hahaha..

A friend of mine, AC Littlebird referred me to a skin store because she was so excited at the lovely natural looking skin. Of course I had to check it out for myself.

The owner of Deesse's Skins is NatalieWells Resident and she has been designing skins since January, 2011 and opened her store in March 2011. She has a show coming up on May 27th. There will be 10 models that will wear her creations. "The show will be beautiful, there will be water, roman theme, swimwear, everything will be cool and it will inspire SUMMER."

I asked Natalie if she had anything she wanted to say to the readers and she said " I want every beautiful lady to visit my store, I am sure that they will not regret because here we have beautiful skins, limited skins, I worked very hard for making those skins and really hope that people appreciate them. We have many discounts & gifts every month.

Today I was hanging out in the role play combat sims and a few people asked me about my attire. Well I decided to find out what others are wearing at combat sims too. Who would have thought it would be like twisting arms and so hard to get designer information.
Well here are some pics of "How to try and look good while kicking ass or getting ass kicked in a combat sim." Hahaha..Do you think I got my ass kicked? Let me show you my combat attire.

First up is Tara Leirdlow. She is a bad ass and a damn good fighter and she refused to tell me where she got her skin. Can you believe it? She said " I don't want anyone copying my style" of course I laughed. My reply " I am sure someone in the fashion industry will recognize your skin." She disagreed and while she was busy talking I took a couple of snapshots of her.

Perla: Hello LoveCat.
It is my pleasure to have you as one of my designer spotlights on my blog. my blog goes out to a lot of feeds and has a high readership. Actually I have a waiting list but I love your clothe,the details and your experience.
LoveCat: Thank you so much for the huge compliment. I appreciate your taking the time to look at my shop and feature it.. it is really an honor.

Perla: What triggered you to start designing and did you have more of a Neko style in mind?

LoveCat:I actually began as a builder, and was into the neko style. I made some little odds and ends that I couldn't find for myself, boomers, ears, and tails. It started out as just for fun, but my friends pushed me to open a little store. It really took off quickly. I have always been interested in many styles, neko, fantasy and formal wear as well. I've been enjoying the opportunity to design for many different styles and genres.

Perla: How long has LoveCats been in business?
2 years ago this past February the first little shop opened. I started out with the little neko accessories, furniture and a couple of horrible outfits. I never intended to get into clothing but my customers enjoyed the few I made and pushed me to make more.. so I really changed directions. It was a happy accident.
Perla: I often see a lot of Nekos around SL, not on regular sims but on roleplay sims. I am sure they would love this store.
If your store was in the midst of a fire and you could only grab one outfit, which outfit would you pick>
LoveCat: That would be very difficult. I think I would choose "Fallen"
Perla: Do you hire live models or have your own model group?
LoveCat:We hire models to work live in store, they become a part of the LoveCats family- we have our own model group.
Perla:Do you take custom orders?
LoveCat: I do not have the time for custom orders at this time, unfortunately.

Perla: Tell us something unique about yourself? Something off the wall.
In real life I was a vintage clothing dealer. I still have a passion for vintage and miss it a little but I enjoy immensely creating in sl. Besides clothing I love landscaping and creating immerse environments. I am really excited about the creative potential in sl.
Perla: Do you have any upcoming shows?

SILKEN MOON: SPOLTLIGHT ON DESIGNER

On one of my many journeys throughout Second Life one of my friends suggested that I visit Silken Moon, a relatively new skin shop. Of course I stopped by the store and was immediately impressed with the wide variety of skin selections available. The owner of Silken Moon is Malicia Python and below is some information and a few pictures of some of her skins.

Perla: Hi Malicia,
It was really great discovering your store the other day and you have such a big variety of skins. Tell me what inspires you when you start a new collection?

Malicia: Hello Perla, was nice showing you around. To your question: Inspiration can be anything. Usually it is something visual that ignites an idea. Mostly, it is a look or a character I want to create. Like seeing a tartan pattern and it becomes a punk girl with an all snotty arrogant expression.
I want my skins to be emotional, not just beautiful. The creating is not always conscious, sometimes I just feel like messing around and then it flows. Looking at it later, I see what was on my mind making the skin.
Perla: What made you decide to start creating skins?

Malicia: I got my first set of templates to see how skins are actually made, I had no idea before. Then I messed around with it. The skin was terrible - I still have it though. But I was kind of hooked as you might see. *grins*

Perla: You mentioned that the Drama Queen Skins are inspired by Elizabeth Taylor correct?

Malicia:Yes, I was surprised how much her death shocked me, thinking of it I found she was the last one of an era of Divas - and one of my face celebs. Thus, she always reminded me of my RL Mom, though my Mom was only married half as often :).
I was working on a completely different idea but somehow ended with those lush lips and thin eyebrows. when I looked at her, I thought "hi Liz". A good example of my mind flowing into my work without me knowing it. To take the sadness out of it, I went for the "Drama Queen" theme. Guess Liz would have liked it, she ordered to be 15 minutes late to her own funeral. That is style in excess.

Perla: I noticed a lot of your skins are good for RP Sims. Do you have any favorite RP sims?. I actually go to a combat RP sim and my character is a lycan/vampire hybrid..:-)..Its good to have skins to be able to play the role.

Malicia: Unfortunately, I don't have any time for RP. I played Bloodlines when I started. But all those characters are very inspiring, I love to work out of the box. I always liked "freaky skins" but it was hard to get really good ones. Thats another thing that makes me do something, because I want to have it.
OMG, I babble, back to the sim question, it is definitely the Omega sim, I don't know what role-play is allowed there, but the buildings and texturing are stunning.

Perla: Have you ever featured your skins in a show or do you have plans to feature your skins in a fashion show?
Malicia: I think the only time my skins were in a show was The first Mary Jane Shoes show, Cirque de Sole. Infiniti, the owner, got the GothShas for all the models. Unfortunately, it was in the middle of my night, so I could not see it. But I been told it was a blast. I felt really honored by her choice. !Silken Moon only opened last October, so I hope, there is way more to come.

Perla: Ok this is an off the wall question. What is your favorite movie?

Malicia: ÖÖ I have such difficulties to have one favorite of anything. But I guess it would be something directed by Tim Burton.

Is there anything else that you would like to tell the readers?

Malicia: Hell, thats a tough one. Maybe that one: beauty is only skin deep, always check what's under the surface. Oh my, now I want that on my tombstone and be 16 minutes late for the funeral XD.

I had the honor of reviewing the Threaded Bare Lace Gown from Mohna Lisa Couture and my first impression was "Elegant,Exquisite and Enchanting" This gown is threaded with lace and silk and made me feel sexy. If I walked into a room the men and women would all pause!

SPOTLIGHT ON COLBY PEVENSEY

Recently I had the opportunity to sit down with Colby Pevensey for a chit chat. As always I was curious as to what Colby has been up to the past few months so I wanted to share a bit of our conversation.

Perla: Well how has Colby Pevensey been this past year?

Colby: Haha. Wow, a whole year? That question makes my head spin. A lot happens to us all in second life over the course of a year, and certainly I have seen my share. I have had experiences over that year that will forever be branded into my memory...some great, and some not so great. The best thing we can do as citizens of our community is to learn from each encounter and absorb what you can from them. Suffice it to say, that I am glad to usher in a new year and have never been happier in my second life.

Perla: What projects are you working on right now?

Colby: Thank you for asking. Over the past six months, I have enjoyed a low key experience of creating the OnEdge Radio Internet radio stream. What joy it has been to spend my days with my first passion...music. When I began this adventure, I had the attitude that I don't even care if anyone listens, lol. It is just about playing music and expanding my wings perhaps into genres that were previously out of my comfort zone. In the beginning I visioned the stream to be a rock venue. But in the last few months, I have accepted that it is a ‘variety’ genre. I coined the phrase “You might call it Variety...but we say Everything that Rawks”.

Perla: So you are six months into it now, how is OnEdge doing and is it being accepted by an audience?

Colby: Well, to my surprise we have been very well accepted. I think we appeal to a broad base of listeners by playing current pop hits and popular songs from the decades. There is something for everyone. Our listeners has grown steadily each month. In February we had 5,652 unique listeners which humbles me that people out there are enjoying what we are doing here.

Perla: Do you have any surprises coming up in the near future?

Colby: LOL. Well, if I told you that, then it wouldn't be a surprise would it? haha. But, to answer that in a single sentence... yes, there will be some very exciting announcements coming soon surrounding OnEdge Radio and our new upcoming AVPeople Magazine. Hold on to your hat!

Perla: I listen to your radio station and love the variety of music. And oh, I actually won a prize...hahahha. I like how you give out prizes to the listeners. Where do you see One Edge Radio 6 months from now?

Colby: One thing I have learned about doing business in SL is that the path a business takes is unpredictable. You kinda point it in the general direction you want to go and then let it take you for a ride. Sometimes you have to adjust its course, but ultimately the business will carve its own course. So, we’ll see. But I can say this...it will be a fun ride. FUN...that is my new word for 2011. I am tired of stress, politics, critics and trying to please everyone. I just want to have FUN in my second life and I think we all need to remember that is why we are here. Having fun...that is where I want to be now, six months from now and long after that.

Perla: Tell us something that we don't know about Colby Pevensey?

Colby: Oh my. We all have a book to write in us don’t we? I could fill many pages, that’s for sure. I guess, one thing most people don't know about me is that I grew up in Kansas. I am a farm boy raised in a family where hard work, strong moral convictions, and a sense of responsibility was ingrained into my upbringing. I would never go back to that life but thank god everyday for it. In real life, I would describe myself as an eclectic mix of biker-rocker-cowboy kind of guy. I know, far from fashion right? LOL Yeah, who would have ever thunk it. The fact is, I don't know much about fashion and have never claimed that I did. But, I can build a strong business and lead it. I loved building and selling businesses in real life and now enjoy the same activity in second life.

Perla: Ok, random question now. What is your favorite movie?

Colby: Random is right. Well, I love many movies. I love the level of talent it takes to create these adventures on film. I am genuinely entertained by most every movie I watch. I guess I would say Avatar is one of my favorites. I could list several others. A recent movie that I really enjoyed was “The Social Network”. I was enthralled with the amazing story about the creation and development of Facebook. I couldn't help but say...damn, I should have done that!

Perla: Any final departing words?

Colby: I might say I have been approached several times for an interview, and usually decline. You have always been a good friend Perla and I am a fan of your blog and your modeling. Keep up the great work you are doing. Come back in six months and we’ll talk again :))

Perla: Do you take custom orders for shoes?

Infiniti: To an extent. I will do custom colors of most existing shoes. Custom orders of a completely new shoe, not so much, but I do consider all suggestions/ideas that customers have for a new shoe style.

Perla: What made you decide to start designing shoes?

Infiniti: I decided in 2007 to design shoes because I simply couldn't find anything that fit or looked right. Now with sculpties, rather than tortured tori, there are ankles and toes and all the sensual, seductive curves of a woman's foot. The possibilities are virtually endless so my drive to continue building is continuously fueled with new ideas.

Perla: Give us one word to describe you design style.

Infiniti: "Mine." I build for whatever mood I'm in, or whatever inspires me. So all that is the essence of "me" is what comes through in the design process (and I use the word process loosely lol).

Scrool's is a new store with fun, unique clothing designed with the artistic flair of Neyza Zahm. I was curious about the name of the store so I asked the designer. She said, "A great person I met once told me that I could start thinking about creating my own brand and using it wisely. That person gave me strength to believe in my work so I created a style without a name. I asked her to help me out with a name and she naturally said SCROOL. This was with no meaning and mysterious, simple and sounds good. I accepted her creativity because I trusted her from the beginning."

Neyza considers her design style as simple, cute with nice textures and mixing colors to do art.

2011 Designer Showcase/Interview with soraya Vaher

I am starting off 2011 with an interview with designer extraordinaire soraya Vaher, owner and designer of Violator. Words to describe her, Daring, Trendsetter, Mysterious. Below is a brief conversation that I had with soraya.

Perla : When I step into your store its exhilarating. I think goth, avant garde, surreal, haute couture,erotic, forbidden and more.

I must say when i saw the My Fetish piece of jewelry some naughty thoughts went threw my mind. Perfect piece of jewelry for me. laughs

What was your inspiration for Lady of the Wolves? I see that as an outfit that an Alpha lycan queen to wear when she is commanding her pack. ( I do a lot of role play on combat sims as a lycan/vampire hybrid)

soraya: In my mind she is the lady who submits and commands the beast, you can see it as metaphor. The beast can be herself or something different from herself.

The grace of the flower hat (especially the red version) reminds me far reminiscences of old fairy tales like "Little Red Riding Hood". the hat could be interpreted as both: a graceful flower hood and on the contrary an avant interpretation of a wolf`s fur as well.

The composed elegance of the dress, the simplicity of the texture, the hat´s veils surrounding the face giving depth and relevance to the face and the mysterious look make this lady enigmatic, and avantgarde but at the same time mythical, mystical monastic and powerful.
Whet ever she may be a dark wolf or a beauty hidden in the forest ... she just commands

Perla: .Do you have a favorite piece of work?

soraya: I have some favorites but the preference changes with the time.

After all my creations are all part of me representing different aspects of my own personality.

Perla: Describe your style in a few words and what comes to mind when you create your clothing.

soraya: Haute Couture, symbiotic, hybrid, elegant, decadent, abrupt

That depends... sometimes violence, sometimes pain, sometimes just an echo of a dream I have done, sometimes a reminiscence of a movie or a book i enjoyed, sometimes a mood.
Sometimes a new direction i want to take and reinterpret to be unique. There is a basic elegance in my thoughts. When i create something.. it must be elegant, it must be haute, it must be unique and somehow eclectic.

Perla: Do you have any shows coming up soon?

soraya: Surprise...
Perla: Okay a couple of random questions about soraya.

What is your favorite color? Favorite food?

soraya: black/ prosciutto crudo di Parma
Perla: Who is your favorite RL designer?

soraya: Versace of the 90´s and Jean Paul Gaultier
Perla: Are you in love? smiles

soraya: Yes, with myself!
