Although upon getting back I did find it in Lonely Planet's top list of things to do to my surprise. Maybe they are running out of new and exciting things to suggest?... Anywhooo I was currently staying in a place roughly 5 hours north of Bangkok called Phitsanulok &lt;br/&gt;

The original plan was that after the Full Moon Party we were all going to head back to Australia on separate planes and meet up somewhere in Sydney to enjoy New Years Eve in Sydney Australia. However I had decided I couldn't be arsed with Sydney for New Year and new there was no chance it would live up to the &lt;br/&gt;

Beaches, 35+ Degrees, buckets, bach raves and not a single Christmas jumper in sight.Being in a Buddhist country means that the Christmas hype was completely none existent so come December 23rd I was felling about as Christmassy as Abu Hamza. However this all changed when I got to Koh Phangan and hit one of the main Backpacker (so therefore &lt;br/&gt;

After a horrendously heavy 3 nights in Phi Phi I penciled in some much needed chill out time in koh Lanta before we headed to Koh Phangan for the Christmas Full Moon parties.Me and Chris were both absolute shambles on the boat over which did nothing but confirm the fact we definitely needed 3 days of doing nothing before we took a few years &lt;br/&gt;

Phi Phi is also a real nice island with some amazing dive spots just a few minutes boat ride away so I really wanted to make the most of my PADI &lt;br/&gt;

I really liked Railey it was a beautiful area surrounded by huge limestone cliffs which not only looked amazing but also provided a great barrier from the rest of the mainland making it feel &lt;br/&gt;

Basically thanks to Tom at Panda travel messing around with our flights (read about that here) and having to get the later flight we missed the last boat to Krabi and therefore HAD to spend a night in Patong Beach.

The one good thing about being back here was I was at a beach and I experienced a small &lt;br/&gt;

Pai is chilled out and the weather was lot cooler than the rest of Thailand so was a nice break from the sweaty mess that was Bangkok.

Pai is about 3 hours and 730 odd hair pin bends west of Chiang Mai. I think its only about 150km from Chiang Mai but as there are so many twists and turns in the road as you go up the mountain its takes nearly 3 and a half hours. The views as &lt;br/&gt;

One great way from getting to Chiang Mai from Bangkok is the night train. I love it as you sit down get a 3 course meal for £2 then a bit later a man who is seriously good at making beds comes round and assembles a bed for you out of your seat in around 30 seconds. The minute I arrived it was chaos, the noise, the smells both good and bad, the traffic, the dirt and the just pure sensory overload that is Bangkok just blew my mind once again and I was so pleased to be back. &lt;br/&gt;

Coincidence? I think not.Coming back to Asia I experienced culture shock for the first time in ages. It was ruled by Portugal for over 400 years so was expecting a schizophrenic mix of Portuguese and Chinese culture.My plan was to get to Macau about 3:00pm potter around the streets till it got dark and then spend a few hours &lt;br/&gt;
