I really love this time of year!!

I especially love the way the house looks when it's all aglow from the christmas lights!!I love the children's faces light up when they open thier gifts christmas morning!!

I love the wonder and the magic this season holds!!

Happy 1st birthday Matthew

I can't believe a year has past since my my little man was born!
On October 12,2011 Matthew turned 1 years old.
We had a party with some family and friends last Sunday.
We have been practicing sing the Happy Birthday song so he'd maybe recognize it when we sang it to him. He was so surprised as we all sang, looking at everyone as if to say....is this for me?!?!?

We had a beautiful cake made from our favorite store and they give babies a smash cake along with the birthday cake.
Everyone loves those baby smash cake pictures!! What sweet memories!!!

Mickey mouse was the theme as my little man loves mickey mouse clubhouse and I made the decorations for him.

We only have 5 more birthdays coming up from now until the end of the year!! Matthew's is the kick off!!! LOL

I love my little man so much and so happy and blessed to be his mommy!!!!

I'm a winner and Happy Fall ya'll

Fall is in the here and that's the time I get in the mood for some apple cider, nice comfy throws and pumpkin scented candles. The kids and I decorated the outside with scarecrows

and pumpkins, while indoors are more subtle colors and pink and white pumpkins.

As much as I love the fall colors,

it just doesn't go with all my pastels. But the reds, oranges and yellows sure do look good with my red door!!!

This week had its ups and downs, but I was ever so thrilled to get a wonderful package in the mail!!!

Kitchen pics and cannoli cake...yum!

When we first made over the kitchen I made some brown curtains. I should have known I wasn't going to keep them very long!! I am lace lady and the light colors make me happy!!
I put my lace back up and added new blinds, which I am not a fan of, but we need some privacy I guess!!
I think the brown counters add some contrast!
I love to bake and decorate! It's my favorite things to do being a stay at home mom.
I especially love when the family enjoys what I make and my rewards may not be bonuses pay raises, I get hugs and kisses!!!!

This is a cannoli cake I made. Pretty simple too. Just made 2 round cakes from cake mix and made a cannoli filling from this recipe here:

and made the frosting from
1 c cold milk
1/4 c powdered sugar
1 small box vanilla instant pudding. Beat on low for 1 minute and add 8 oz thawed cool whip.

It came out great and the frosting was nice and light!! Nothing too heavy and sugary, perfect with the cannoli cake!!!

My WHOLE house is nothing but thrifty so I thought I'd link up my blog. Recently we made over our kids bathroom for less then $100.00 and several months ago we made over our kitchen for a very thrifty price as well.

Being a stay at home to 5 kids there really isn;t alot left in the budget for the home, so I scour thrift stores looking for deals and my hubby finxes up whatever I bring home.

In fact last year we even put up beadboard in our dining room for 25.00. An awesome craigslist find. Our front door was a mere 25.00 and even our kitchen and dining rooms floors we re did 2 years ago only cost 60.00 !!!

Cheap bathroom redo

I know I haven't posted in a long time!! I just don't think I have anything interesting to say sometimes. I am on my blog daily and read other blogs daily as well.

The kids are all home for summer and we have been cleaning, decluttering and organizing the house. What started out as a my husband cleaning the bathroom floor turned out to be a nice weekend project!!!

I told DH please clean the floors and he decided it was just easier to tear them apart and put a new floor down. Then as he was doing that, I suggested we use what was left over from our beadboard wallpaper kitchen project to do the walls in the bathroom. So we put that up and added the chair rail and painted it all white. Looks great!! Looks like real beadboard too!!

So as we got that finished I decided to do the countertops as well like we had in the kitchen, We used laminate tile and it looks great!! My DH glues them down so they don't move!!

I love the way it looks!!! And it was done for under 10.00$$ !!!

The shower curatin was found on amazon for 14.99 and the Ikea light fixture also an amazon find for 14.99. I love the halogen lights!!!

I am super excited about the bathroom and love how we did it so cheap!! In a perfect world I would have gutted the whole bathroom, but time and money are not abundant right now!!

Oh and how do you love my kitty, Snap? For some reason she wont leave the bathroom, and I;m not about to disagree with a 17 year old kitty!!! LOL

Nothing says welcome like.....

A red front door!!! I wanted to paint the door red for a while now and we finally got around to doing it! I love it!! It really stands out now and is such a nice contrast against the white house. I'm so happy we did it! So come on in and see the sweet Mother's Day gifts I got from the family.

Yummy cake!! Even though I am now on a diet, it sure was nice to enjoy a piece of this cake!

And the balloon and huge card! My oldest is know for her big handmade cards and I look forward to them for every ocassion!!

They put such a smile on my face!!

And this here is from my youngest daughter. Her class put on a very lovely Mother's day brunch.

It was so sweet and I really love the handmade cards and gifts. It is something I appreciate and treasure forever!! That's why I love Mother's Day so much!!

Welcome to Pink Saturday here at whinenroses blog. I decided to jump on in and participate in Pink Saturday. I just want my posts to be pink and pretty and hope all who visit think so too.

We are getting ready for Easter here and putting a few things out here and there.

I made the feather boa tree several years ago. It matches with my feather wreath that hangs on the front door.

Hopefully the Easter bunny will find us !!

We planted all new azealases this year and I look forward to many beautiful blooms for years to come. It has been getting cold here in FL these past few winters so rather than cover plants and hope they survive, we planted all cold hardy plants. We even got the Encore Azealeas that bloom throughtout the year, not just once!

I want to thank Beverly for hosting another great pink Saturday.

I can't wait to see what everyone has got in store for us pink lovers out there!

The bunny will be here soon!

I finally got around to putting some easter decorations up. Just a few things. Some wreaths, pink eggs, and a few bunnies here and there. The kids love to add the wondow clings to the front door. I let them decorate that! We've been working hard on more projects. We got the rest of the beadboard panels up in our foyer. That was part of our 25.00 craigslist find back in august. It looks great in the foyer too and eventually we will do the living room too. Little by little. I would love to do more with the beadboard wallpaper, but I have textured walls. Thats limets me to what I can do with it. We also added some thin molding on the door that leads out to our garage. It is a big heavy wood door and I really like it, but too plain. The cost of a new door is just not in the budget right now. So we bought some molding for 5.00 a piece (we needed 2) and hubby used liquid nail to glue it on the door. Looks great!!! Above the doors we added thick molding and rosettes. Too bad even with all the custome wood and decor our house is still not worth much!!! This weekend we are taking the kids to see the easter bunny for pics. I managed to bribe...uh.. I mean talk the girls into getting the pic for thier baby brothers first Easter!!! We'll see who cries this year...probably me!! Hugs, Jenn

Playtime and all that artwork!!

I haven't blogged much lately. Same old boring stuff around here. Cooking, cleaning, laundry, whining, crying, poopy diapers and hormones!!! Ah- life with 5 kids!!! Somehow I managed to put together this play area for Matthew. Little guy is surrounded by so much girlie stuff with 4 sisters and shabby mama! To add a little balance around here, we gave our little man his own play area decorated with birthday pic frames of each of the kids and framed kids artwork!! Yes, I have a lot of artwork collected over the years so it's hard to showcase just certain pieces, but what can I do with all this stuff?!?!? Well a few years ago while reading through old Parents magazines, I found a great idea!! For many years I gathered artwork and put them in big plastic bins. Eventually all the bins add up and take a lot of space. So every once in a while I go through the bins and take a picture of each of the pieces. I then print up the pics and put them all in a photo album. If you want, you can add the date and name of child on the back of the photo for easy identification, and then throw out the pieces. Yes I said throw out!!! We all know we can't keep everything!!!! I got a little more caught up the other day and then about had a breakdown! I just could not throw anything else out!!!! It is a process- and it must be done when your in a purging mood!!! Although this idea may not be for everyone- if there are any better ideas out there for storage and organization I am open to them!!! But this seems to work for me and maybe it could work for you too!!! Hugs, Jenn

New kitchen...sorta....

ok..when I say we made over our super cheap- I mean we did it SUPER CHEAP!!!

How about 150.00 cheap!?!??

Oh yeah...well we did!!!

Very cheapo!!

We started by buying beadboard wallpaper for 15.96 a roll. We took down all thedoors and draws and pasted them on.

Next we painted the cabinets all white.

After they dried we painted the beadboard white. It looks so clean and crisp.

As for the countertops we bought peel and stick tile for 30.00 a box (only needed 2) and glued them down the ugly laminate counters. Wow!!

What a difference!!!

I made the curtains from plain panels from Walmart and added blue striped fabric and ribbon to the ends.

I love the way it all looks!!!!

Added a new track light to the mix and there you go!!!

Cheap!! Cheap!!
I love the way it looks and feels so clean and new!!!!

Holidays and craft time

I am so thankful to be able to get my crafting done. Even with an infant in the house, I am able to work around the house and get things done. He is such a happy baby and only cries when he is hungry. I stick to a schedule of feedings and naps and he loves it.
When he is awake and we're not cuddling, I put him in his bouncy seat on the dining room table so he watch me and everyone else. He is sitting up and gets to be a part of our every day lives.
One project I worked on over the weekend is this adorable lampshade.

Wish I had that talent.
The only thing is I used green wired lights because that's what I had at home, but I think I will replace them with white wired ones instead. Each is covered with fabric and lightly embellished.

I've also been working hard on my faux cupcakes. I am thinking about listing them on etsy after the holidays.
These here I made for myself as a christmas/birthday gift (Dec 30). See our family has 4 birthday the week of christmas and that can be very expensive- so I tell everyone not to get me anything...I already have everything I want!!!!
My oldest will be 15 December 26, I am December 30th and the twins are December 31st- New Years babies!!!
As much as I love pink, I have slowly been adding in other pastels as well. Blues and greens especially look great with pink!!

On another note.....being that my oldest daughter will be 15 she is now able to get her learners permit!!! I am so nervous about teaching her to drive and especially nervous about her driving on her own next year!!!!
Pray for our family and all the drivers in our town!!

Come on in.....

Come on in and have a cup of tea with me.
We are all busy getting ready for holidays and hugging our sweet baby.
Don't you just love that newborn baby smell???
That's just one of the scents here you smell at our cottage. Most likely I am burning our Mistletoe Yankee candle or some other sweet scent.
I think tomorrow me and my girls will bake up some fun stuff. Cupcakes or cookies.
My little ones love to bake with Mommy!!!
We'll see what kind of sweet treats our loving kitchen will be filled with this weekend.

Christmas is coming soon!!!

I can't believe we are so close to christmas! It seems like we just put away our tree and now we are decorating for a new season.
This year has been full of ups and downs and I am blessed to have a beautiful family and my first son!!
This time last year I would have never imagined I'd have a boy!!!
So we started decorating last Friday after thanksgiving and it usually takes us a few weekends to get it all done.
We have tons of stuff and there isn't enough room in the house to put it all up.
As usual my pink christmas tree goes up in the dining room each year and the ornament wreath I made last year as my table centerpiece.
I decorated this small table with a few items and as I went along I liked it more and more.
Most things are thrift store finds or Dollar Tree ornies.
This is our family tree. The christmas village is almost all up. I'd love to add some fake snow, but we have kittens so not sure how that would go!! We have many vintage ornaments and mementos on the tree as well. My favorite are those the kids bring home!! I love to decorate my kitchen cabinets with their christmas artwork and ornaments they make on the family tree.
We started on the outside and it is coming along very nicely!!
I really enjoyed blog hopping and looking at the lovely homes decorated for christmas!! Can't wait to see more!!!

Let them be Little

I love photos of pics that capture their personality. The sweetness and innocence of a child.
I snapped this shot while at a Teddy Bear Picnic at our local library.
Madison was listening so carefully as a story was being read to the children.
Afterwards we went outside and ate lunch. It was a cool day, but very refreshing.

Another favorite photo is those cute bath shots. After we gave Matthew his bath and swaddled him in his blanket to dry, he fell asleep. He is always asleep!!!
He gets up at 1:30am for his feeding and then again at 5am and has been on this schedule since the 2nd day we brought him home.
Thank God!!!
After having 4 other kids at home, it sure is nice to get sleep at night with a newborn!!
I look forward to the holidays coming up and all the family photos and holiday theme pics I take of the kids!!

My precious treasure

My sweet and precious little man finally arrived.
Little Matthew was born October 12,2010
at 8:07am.
I have been enjoying him along with the rest of my kids the past 10 days.
It's amazing how much the girls love him!!! He is their sweet baby brother and
they adore him too.
I told my husband, "Sorry baby- I am in love with another man!"
I am so excited to have a son and look forward to the fun and enjoyment
he has and will bring for our whole family!!
We are blessed!!!

My tea cups

You can never have too many tea cups!!!
I have them all over my living room and dining room.
Many different styles and colors too.
Now I read a lot of blogs, so I know there are many people who have alot more than I do, but some day I will have even more.
I pick them up at thrift stores or garage sales and never pay more than a few dollars for a tea cup.
It is a hobby and I love when I find a new cup.
My little one likes tea parties with mama and she gets to pick out her cup and we have chocolate milk and chat about our day.
Those are the special times that I hope she remembers when she is an adult.
And maybe even pass along the fun to her own children!!!
Until then I'll enjoy every moment we have and love every minute!!!

My shower

So sorry I haven't been around much. I have been busy and very tired! Only 2 1/2 weeks until my little guy gets here and I am exhausted and ready for his birthday!
A few weeks ago....

My 4 beautiful daughters gave me such a nice shower! I was so thrilled to have many friends and family to our home!
We got everything we needed and then some. Our baby crib, bedding, a playpen, travel stroller, a diaper bag(from my girls) and many clothes and blankets.
This little one has enough clothes for the next couple years!!
My oldest and youngest daughters are here with me while we open the many many gifts.
My cutie hubby picked the cake! Isn't it the cutest?? Finally a BOY!!
I was in tears when he brought it home!!!
It was so much fun to have everyone gathered here. I didn't flip out about the mess and I was perfectly fine having 25+ people in the small living room!
Everything was perfect!!!
I have a great family!!!!
Thank God for my family and friends!!!!

I'm still here!!!

Happy Saturday to all my blogger friends!
Yes I am still here and feeling alright.
Trying to get some small projects done around the house before our special
bundle of joy arrives in 2 more months!!
Just so you know, every project we do around here lately has only cost us between
20-50.00 !!! Yes that is it!!!!
When I say I am a thrifting queen...I mean it !!!
I finally got my new front door. A pretty french door from craigslist for only 30.00.
We painted it and here it is!!!
Changes the whole appearance of the front entry in and out!!!
The bead board we put up in the kitchen is from our dining room project where we purchased all the bead baord for only 25.00.
I decided to paint it a very light blue, in our of our baby son soon to arrive!!

My new door and new foyer floor. A brick pattern that goes very lovely with the wood floors through tout the house!!

So come on in our to our little home and have a cup of tea while enjoying the sounds of children playing and dogs barking!
Don't worry about wiping your feet, there are little footprints everywhere!!!!

The above pic I just had to add on my post. It is of my baby girl who is now almost 5 years old!! She always wore pink and even today loves the color pink and a nice dress!

I've been looking all around my house lately and I can't help but think what will my little man, due in October, think of all my pink!! Maybe I should add my greens and aqua to my decor as well.

His crib colors will be green and brown as green is another favorite color of mine!

A Few more finished projects

We've so busy around the house that I haven't posted !!
I like to take pics when my projects are complete and hate taking photos of my messy house.
Hubby has been working hard getting his honey do list I created for him finished. I just want a few small things done before the baby and the holidays are here again.
Our kitchen is getting there!! Although it will be a LONG time before I can call it finished- it is coming along.
The only appliance left to replace is my fridge and we need to do something with our cabinets and countertops.
We are thinking of putting up some beadboard as a backsplash and I might be able to get good old hubby to get it started this weekend providing our teenager is ready to work!!
All the once dark and drabby trim is painted in there and rosettes added to the pantry. I replaced the broken door with the curtain until I find the perfect door!!

Here is a view from my dining room, looking into my 2 butt kitchen. It is small space but we really can't lose a bedroom to expand the size of it. And you can see my -on the way out fridge!!

Another project finished ahead of schedule is the beadboard in the dining room.

We found an excellent deal on craigslist for 3 panels and a few half pieces of beadboard only 25.00 for all!!! We snatched it up and here it is!!! The dining room was done for under 50.00 including the new chair rail. I am so thrilled!!!

Can't wait to see how my christmas tree will look in there this year!!!

So off to my list once again..... seeing what needs to be done and already completed!!!
