A couple of weeks ago my husband and I were able to spontaneously get away for the weekend. We headed to the Dillon Beach/Bodega Bay area. I asked a good friend (who is a foodie) for restaurant recommendations and she raved about P30 in Sebastopol. I looked them up on the web before we left to check out their menu and get directions. While poking around their site I visited the “Featured Recipes” page and yelped out loud when I saw this:

No, not the lollipops (though they are yelp worthy). What was Divine Twine doing there? Turns out Christine, one of the owners of P30, thought it was cute and was sweet enough to share it on their site. I was touched and thrilled!

We had a lovely dinner at P30 and the food was delicious! We tasted about a quarter of the menu and would have licked the bowl the Lemon Verbena Pot de Creme came in if it was socially acceptable. I highly recommend a visit to anyone in the Bay Area. I met Christine and give a her a few spools of twine as a Thank You.

Such a small, small world.

Fun Give Away from Ravenhill

Emily Moss of Ravenhill has graciously offered to give away one of her handmade (with love) Scandinavian Matryoshka Art Dolls. Here are a few photos of the sweet fabric doll that could be yours.

Here is some info on Fru Marseth (the doll’s official name) in Emily’s own words:

She loves to be on a desk, mantel or on a bedside table.
She is approximately 6″x4″ (14×10cm).
The new 100% cotton fabrics were machine and hand sewn. Pretty French knots embellish the hand embroidered flowers. Her little behind is decorated with a hand appliquéd heart and her face is made with my own fabric design.
Materials: fabric, embroidery floss, poly-fil, ribbon, and thread

I entered Minted.com’s latest challenge, the Happy Happy Birthday Card. I always get nervous entering the challenges. There’s something about throwing my hat in the ring and being judged that is unsettling to me. But, it does feel good to put my design hat on once in a while. Anyway, here are the designs I entered. I know I’ve done a play on the Keep Calm and Carry On poster before with this free card download, but I couldn’t resist.

top = card front, bottom = inside card

This card would be customized to have the number of candles lit to match the age of the recipient. Hopefully a fun way of keeping track of the years and a positive outlook on the years to come.

I love me a garland or banner, but a pennant will also do.

Birthday Card for my Mom

My mom’s birthday is coming up so I made her a card. I submitted this design in the Crane competition (I was not a selected designer. boo hoo), but I thought my mom would get a kick out of it. We have this running joke between us, I call her Betty (not her real name) and she calls me Windy. These are our alias names that came about from people not hearing our correct names when being introduced to us.

Anybody else have a mis-heard “alias” name? Do tell.

Side note: Before Windy came into play, the #1 response to my name when I was little was, “Whitney, isn’t that a boy’s name?” Way to crush a 5-year-old girl’s heart thoughtless grown-ups of the 60’s. In all fairness, this was well before the Whitney Houston craze.

DIY Jewelry Board

Last Thursday night I attended Craft Night at Jordan Ferney’s studio. I had a good time and met several creative and very nice women. One of them was Diana Hulme. Diana works in event planning at a San Francisco hotel, has an announcement and invitation paper goods company called Vendella Design, has a fun blog and is one crafty gal (and must require little to no sleep!). A (purely) Paper Flower Shop

This is the coolest. David Stark Designs (event planner extraordinaire) created an all paper flower shoppe at a west elm store in New York. The shoppe was installed for the launch of David Stark’s new book and was “open” for only 4 days (!). Here are a couple of photos, but be sure to visit his blog for lots more photos and an amazing video of the event, including the assembling and disassembling of the shoppe. Amazing.

Recipe Card Wedding Favors

I had one of the nicest brides, Joanna, contact me needing help with her wedding favors. She wanted to give each of her guests a set of her favorite recipes. I supplied her with a PDF Printable of the recipe card that coordinated with her colors, she typeset her recipes and I had them printed and collated for her. She’s going to tie them up with some Orange Divine Twine. Pretty, useful and memorable. I think her idea is perfect!
