As I contemplate the past 120 days, I realize I did not interact as much as I had wanted. Don't get me wrong, I did my fair share of lurking around pages without commenting. My single greatest regret was being unable to go to the throwdown. It was an honor to be apart of this journey with you all, and know that if any of you make your way through Conway, AR in the future know you have a couch to crash on. If you need me I'll be lurking around on facebook presumably still sporting a beard. Grow on brothers, grow on.

well, i was right about one thing: there were many photos involving this chair. guys, i'll be honest and admit i had mixed feelings coming into this whiskerino. the first one i did, in 2005 was seriously life changing. i was completely unprepared with how totally awesome everyone was and would never have dreamed, going into it on a whim, that four months later i would be flying to tennessee, eager to meet my new beardo internet buddies. but fly i did, and it was every bit as surreal and enjoyable as i could have hoped for. in 2007, i committed the classic blunder, which was to expect it to be just like 2005 only better. in some ways it was better, for sure, but it definitely wasn't the same and i think i let that get to me, which affected my participation, my excitement about it, etcetera etcetera. anyway, this year i was bright enough to realize i shouldn't try to anticipate anything, and that i should rather just make the most of it, and connect with as many cool people as possible. and i can honestly say that it turned out about 1000% more awesome than i was expecting. i didn't really go into it thinking i would be able to make it to the throwdown, but near the end i realized i had to make it out there and i am so glad i did. thank you to everyone who gave up a few minutes to chat, great apologies to all those that i didn't get a chance to talk to. the shortness of the weekend combined with the great number of people present combined with my overall introvertedness prevented me from meeting a lot of you. thank you to #lnc, #timbo and #cat. You are all the best. and of course, thank you to @mackle for this crazy thing you created. i wish we could hang out more (kni-san diego.... think about it...) see you guys in may.

I don't even know what to say. I'm horrible at goodbyes. I just know this past 4 months has been awesome. Meeting people online is usually fraught with difficulties. Perverts abound. Nigerians trying to steal your life savings. 32 year olds posing as 16 year olds. 16 year olds posing as 22 year olds. Bears stealing children. Its crazy out here. But Whiskerino is different. I have never met so many cool people. And the weird thing is, something as simple as not shaving brought us together. There are artists here. Photographers, graphic designers, parents, teachers, sculptors, musicians, stunt men, comedians, mechanics, accountants, parents and your mothers here. In a tight knit community of people there are bound to be the outliers and even they weren't so bad. At the very least they provided hours of entertainment for the people who were amazed by their out right gall. Thanks to @mackle for everything. Michael, you are a king among men. To take the workload of this thing onto your shoulders for no pay whatsoever other than the smiles of a couple hundred bearded gentlemen is one of the most admirable things I have ever witnessed. Well this is the end. I wish i would have had more time to put more conceptual effort into this thing. That is my one regret. Great job to everybody all around. I had quite the experience here and the Throw Down was the icing on the cake. Special thanks to @Mackle, well done sir. Thanks to @Wheatbeard, @Beardgoggles, and @NorthBeardSouth for convincing me to do this. All the creatives on this site you are truly something special. So inspiring and so entertaining. I will not be participating in MM, for now at least, until Beard Goggles convinces me to that is. As for the book. We are making it. Prolly through Blurb.com. Prolly around $30-35. Jessamine and I's romance began during the first Whiskerino and nearly 7 years later, we're kissing Whiskerino goodbye as husband and wife. It's a passionate kiss, though. I'll keep some version of the beard and she'll keep on loving it. Thanks for being friends; you will always be. Beards going nowhere. The whiskerino bus is soon going -out of service- but what a great trip its been. This shot goes out to my friends here in Lexington that have supported me throughout these last four months. Thanks to photo help and encouragement from Josh, Alison, Craig and most importantly Rose for also tolerating my hairy upper lip. I definitely wouldn't have lasted all this time being the lone whiskerooni in Lexington without the likes of you four (all pictured above). If any whiskeroonis find themselves rolling through Kentucky, come check out Lexington, it's a nice town and you know a brother in beard here that would be overjoyed to host you. Beards and beard-lovers, I want to thank you. Whiskerino has been a wonderful experience for me, and each of you is responsible for that. From day one, watching the creativity and humor unfold here has been great. These 120 days have been some of the most fun I've ever experienced, and I'm very thankful to @bobafred for introducing me. I, like everyone else, also have @Mackle to thank for curating this entire thing and uniting this not-small group of guys under the banner of obscene amounts of facial hair. I'm thrilled to have met what is, unfortunately, only a small fraction of all of you. If it weren't for that pesky job thing, I would've liked to have commented on every photo posted every day in a proper show of appreciation for the time each of you has put into this community. As it stands, chatting was my game, and it allowed me to get to know those of you who also waste hours of your workday to goof around with other beard growers. It's been indescribably fun, and now the end is nothing if not bittersweet. That being said, I won't call this goodbye. I'm hoping to call it a beginning of multiple friendships, begun over the course of 100-plus days and strengthened in Nashville. I'll do my level best to stay in touch with those of you who don't live in Atlanta, and to try to stop in to see those of you who live abroad when I can. The beard is staying until April 4, I was cast as Judas in a production called The Thorn. Tomorrow I trim it to mock the Gerard Butler "King Leonidas" beard from '300'. Fingerguns! It's really easy to post a sad shot today but I couldn't bring myself to do it. It has been awesome being a part of this wonderful, awkward, bizarre, and incredibly fun experience, so thanks to all the beards who've grown and shown for the past 120 days. @jake, thanks for getting me involved in this. I wouldn't have done it without you. @zach, @craigwithak, and @chance - You all rock. Throwdown was a blast. I'd take a trip in the Together Van with you guys any day. Hello. Our time together was wonderful. Some of the best moments of my life, really... I'm sorry that I became lame in the second half. That's okay though; it gave me a chance to get the full whisker-experience, from leader-boarding to being ridiculed for shameful activites. So this is it. The end of the road for Whiskerino. I'm probably going to repeat what many others have said here but I have to say that I never thought that a beard growing contest would have had such an impact on my life. In 05 I signed up thinking it would be fun for a few days, maybe a week, and then I'd be done. I'm so glad I stuck around and each time it has gotten better and better for me. I've met some awesome folks here that I will probably never loose touch with. That in itself is a profound statement. Thanks Mackle for putting this thing together. We all owe him a debt of gratitude. Beard on brothers.

Whiskerino has been an incredibly wonderful time. I have slacked here at the end, but my heart has been in it for the entirety. @SPDinsmoor told us tales of his great time in 2007, leading us to participate this year. It has been great. Lots of laughs and smiles. Few kisses from girls due to my droppy 'stache. I have survived, and I'm a better man for it. Beards, This has been an absolutely wonderful experience. I've made many sacrifices for this beard and I don't regret any of them. It's been a pleasure sharing the internet with you for four months and the Throwdown was amazing. As absurd of an idea as I'm sure we can all to varying degrees recognize this community is based upon, I have gained so much from this experience and have sincerely loved it from beginning to end. Wow it is really over. Can you believe that? Well I made it 4 months as a part of team #hobo and I am ready to tame it down a little bit. This has been an amazing experience and even though I didn't get to do the whole Throwdown it was still great to meet so many great guys here. I was told about this group of rebels by @creole back during the '07 run and waited patiently for the '09 shavedown. It was the first time I had been without any facial hair since 1998! This did not disappoint. Thanks @mackle for all the hard work you put in to this. I walk away from this with a great sense of accomplishment. I posted 80 images, I got a King Beard, participated in most of the themes, did a perfect attendance December and even did a personal theme week. Thanks beardos, I will never forget.

So this is it. I can't say it was all fun, but I still don't want to see it go. I had a great time doing this, it made me feel like I was a part of something bigger than myself. I've come a long ways, and seen a lot of beard better than mine fall along the way. I've grown as a person and acquired scars and made friends along the way. My only regret is that I didn’t participate sooner. Everyone has been so amazing and positive. I of coarse thank @mackle for providing such a great place for so many people to come and build a community together. His work here has been unbelievable. I also want to thank each and every individual here for putting in their part of the whole. Everybody is important, and I’ve loved following all of you for the last four months. From what I’ve seen and read along the way, I’m positive that I’m not alone when I say that participating in this “online facial hair website†has undoubtedly made me a better person overall. Even though I've had less time the past few years to enjoy this event as much as in years past, round four of Whiskerino did not disappoint. There are some great people in this world that I would've never known without this silly little thing. I think many of us can say that we are so much better for having done Whiskerino. @mackle thanks for all your hard work on creating something so strange and wonderful. And with that, I wish you all the blessings the Good Lord has to offer and if I don't see you again here, I do hope to see you there. Today, I look back with heavy heart and say goodbye to my beard. I am thankful for the last 120 days; the new friends, the ability to stay contact with old ones, the overall energy and inspiration of the Whiskerino and my loving wife who supports all my endeavors even if she doesn't love some of the details - in this case the beard. Today I began a cross country drive to Oregon so missing camera cables have forced me to use someone else's pic from the Throwdown. I had no idea what I was getting into when I joined this adventure on Nov. 1, 2009. I read the rules and saw that participants must post at least once per seven-day span, so after my initial photo I didn't even look at the site until about Day 3. It was at that point that I began understanding what Whiskerino was all about. I've typically worn a beard for the past few years, but I've never let it grow untrimmed for more than about a month. Over the past 120 days, it has been fascinating to see a bonafide beard assemble on my face. The amazing thing about Whiskerino is that it has been just as fascinating to see beards grow on all of your faces as well. Thanks for the inspiration, encouragement, brilliance, camaraderie, photographic techniques, and humor. In my experience, Internet communities tend to become dominated—or at least tarnished—by jerks; Whiskerino is the exception. This "place" has such a great spirit about it. I must add that I particularly enjoyed the fellowship of Team Beer Brewers—you guys have made the journey especially fun and educational. I have already made Facebook contact with several of you. I welcome anyone else who would like to keep in touch to continue the conversation with me over there. Take care all.

Of course. The last days of every Whiskerino have been amazing moments of my life and filled with stress. Today was no different. The last day of Whiskerino in 2005/06, my wife went into the hospital suffering from listeria. She was 8 months pregnant with our daughter, Maya. I was driving home from Nashville when I got the news and scurried as fast as I could to be by my wife's side. My daughter was taken by emergency cesarean and was born miraculously with no infection and actually could come home before my wife who definitely got the raw end of the deal. My wife, Christie is the rock of Team Renaud. She puts up with my beard, these throwdowns, my comment bombing at 1am and me explaining inside Whiskerino jokes often pretending interest. This morning, Maya was watching Olympic ice skating and got inspired and was pretending to be an ice skater. She was cute, spinning and jumping and then she tripped over a Yo Gabba Gabba doll and smashed her forehead into the corner of a wall which ripped a sizable gash into her forehead. After wiping all the blood and tears that filled her face and pinching together her split forehead with bandaids, I rushed her to the ER. She was brave and got 6 stitches in her head. She took her nap and then we took her to her 4th Birthday party. She was already the center of attention and under the circumstances she got even more attention. So I thought it was fitting that I post my last photo on Whiskerino with my beautiful daughter, Maya who has changed my life. She really is such a great daughter. Also, I want to thank @mackle for creating such an unusual online fraternity filled with degenerates, prophets, friends, jerks, artists, fathers, lovers, musicians, painters, nite owls and brothers. I can't wait to be together again in the San Diego Zoo in 2011.

Whiskerino: The Final Chapter by: Matt Murphy Chapter 1 In the beginning, @Mackle created the idea and website. Now the site was userless and empty, shaven faces throughout the pages and the Spirit of Beardedness was not located upon our faces. And @mackle said “Let there be beards,†and there were beards. Chapter 2 For four months, beards were grown, beards were shown. They grew in all shapes and sizes. Some long, some stubbly, some full, some patchy, some thick, some thin. In special cases, such as my good friend @frog almost no beard was grown at all. Most of us stayed strong, regardless of the condition of our beards; alas, not all of us were able to stick with this, for one reason or another. These people, while bringing shame upon themselves, and all of us with them, are still to be respected in their own right, as they have still made an effort to compete with us. Chapter 3 I, personally, have had a wonderful time. From the moment @Tomcat was placed into the Hall Of Shame, until tonight. I have thought long and hard, as to what my pictures should be, and I feel I bring shame upon myself, for I have not realized all of the pictures I had thought of. I also feel shame, in that on more than one occasion, I brought myself to the brink of being shamed. I have stayed strong, and I have loved every moment of it. For this, I thank you fine gentlemen. I thank all of whom I have talked to. I thank all of whom have commented on me (although I have fallen short in the comment department, this has several reasons, none of which make me feel the least bit better) Chapter 4 Do as you shall with your facial hair, but keep in mind; a true man embraces at least some form of beard. Well, my bearded brethren, this is it: the end of my first Whiskerino, and my last unless somebody else picks it up in two years. I have seen and talked to some excellent people, and I hope that some of them are able to email me and keep in touch ( there's a contact form at http://blog.josephhall.com/ ). I will keep the beard (it is my namesake, after all), but it will be trimmed. I look forward to eating without chewing on my mustache, and drinking without my mustache holding picking up a pint of whatever I happen to be drinking. So this is it. The end has come. This event has been so amazing, it is hard to describe. We have fought against the clean-shaven majority, pressures from work, and The Itch and we have won. I failed in my attempt to ramp up my commenting in the last month, but juggling work and school and a personal life is difficult, so unfortunately something had to be compromised. I just wish it didn't have to be this. I've learned so much about photography, design, and friendship that I will never forget. Thank you everyone for bringing so much excellent work to the table. I've been inspired so much during these last 4 months. I would like to thank @beardwinner for sticking it out as long as he could. He's a great friend, and it's been a real pleasure growing and showing with him. I'll apologize in advance for whatever I forget to say here. If you read other beards' comments, everyone had the most amazing time. It's been an amazingly supportive community and I truly feel Whiskerino has had a profound and positive influence on the way I look at life and the way I live day to day. Everyone on here has been so encouraging and sincere, and Whiskerino has been one of the last places on the Internet where people are actually nice to one another. It's going to be hard to go back to a life where I'm not always subconsciously thinking 'Hey, that would make a cool picture...' However, Whiskerino has taught me that every day truly is an adventure, and I plan to take that with me. To all fellow growers and showers, users, friends and family who helped out, I can't thank you enough. You have made this a beautiful and inspiring experience for me. I am touched by your input. I really don't know where to start. There are not enough thank you's and great to meet you's. Introducing IggyBobs, EliBobs, HankBobs, EssieBobs, and WillieBobs I went long yesterday, so I'll keep it a bit brief today. You all, are my heros. I came to believe during my time in Nashville, there there is very little that binds us that has anything to do with beards. The dedication to grow a beard for four months, to take a picture every day (that is hopefully entertaining), and spend hours praising other people's photos--is simply the mark of the kind of person I want to know in this life. While our commonalities might have brought many of us together through some means, we have only @mackle to thank for bringing us together here. I don't think any of us could have even imagined that it would happen again, much less 3 more times, with a participation level larger than some towns. I can honestly say that Whiskerino is like family to me. Though my participation in Whiskerino was nothing short of unremarkable, I will say this: The personal experience has been one of self-realization. I’ve come to realize that my whiskers, however patchy, are mine and mine alone, and an extension of not just my body, but my person. As I am prone to the reinvention of the self (at least in my mind), a physical transformation is called for. Yet, it is with great pleasure that I inform my fellow whiskerinos that in the last few weeks I’ve become quite attached to my beard, and it will be with much hesitation that I will put a blade to my face later tonight. (I believe I’ve put the missus through enough for now, and she’s been quite the sport.) For what it’s worth, I promise you all that whenever I grow a beard in the future —as will certainly be the case—, the experience will be that much richer thanks to having participated in this adventure. So. Here we are. The end. It's been a wonderful four months, and I can't help but be surprised it's over. I've done the yeard; in fact, I shaved off another one in November to kick this thing off. I want to try Moustache May this year, but I don't know if I'll get around to it. I don't know what I'm gonna do with my hair; I'm looking Jolie-circa-Hackers at this point, which is awkward to say the least. Most of all, I just don't know what I'm gonna do. There's something transcendent about this whole thing. Be it the masculine answer to bra-burning or just a simple expression of our inner wildman, we have, each and every one of us, freed ourselves. Now that it's over, there's gonna be a big beard-shaped hole in all our lives. Now for the thanks: First of all, thanks to @emsiizilla for all of your help; you've been the figure around which I've built myself for four years now, and it's been bliss. It's a shame we didn't get to do a "She said yes!" picture during Whisker'09, but the time and the money are simply not there. Second, thanks to @grapes for joining up this year and subsequently demolishing every expectation I might have had. You killed it, man. Good show. Thanks to @yogibeard, @folliclejuju, and @johnnyrebellious for daily support as well as daily awesomeness. You were the first three beards I followed, and you had some of my favorite shots of the entire run. Thanks to @mattyc for that epic GrapeS campaign. Also, for those two or three spineless robot jokes and for inadvertently naming an NPC in a D&D adventure. Thanks to @hale for countless cat CLAMEs in talkback. Emsii and I laughed for... well, cumulatively, I'm sure it was hours. Thanks to @greenlab for sharing your creative glass art and putting a new spin on old wisdom. Thanks to @9schwander, @zbolin, @steve-o, @zfa, @crambell, @brandonhill, @jar, and @mattyo for what turned out to be a most excellent Joplin meetup. You're all great, and it was a thrill to meet you. It also dampened the bite of not attending Throwdown, and for that, I thank you again. Thanks to @finnmaccool and @ferociouscupcake for that awesome CLAMEbute. That was a highlight of my Whiskerino, seriously. Finally, of course, thanks to @mackle. I can't even begin to fathom the amount of work that goes into this thing, and for reasons even my sudden long-windedness can't express, "this thing" is incredibly important to all of us. Well, folks, this is it. The end of something beautiful. If ever a group to be a part of (besides owning a motorcycle), this is, without a doubt, the one for me. Been an avid facial hair grower for 15+ years. Grew my first massive beard back in '01. Growed and showed with you fellas for two years now. Lots of thanks to go around: @mackle, for creating this fascinating & beautiful place for beard-growers to flourish; @creole (technically @creole's wife and my great friend, Jaime), for introducing me to Whiskerino; @Heyzeus, for riding along this crazy roller coaster of beardedness; and of course, my mom & dad, for mixing those genes just right to create me and this awesome ability to grow a beard. Guys, it's been a hell of a ride. @Davis, who I went to college with but barely talked to as he was taking over my old job at the college radio station as I was getting ready to join the workforce on an internship, convinced me to do this Whiskerino thing for its last hurrah. Unsurprisingly, the most views I had on a single day was the take-a-photo-at-work day, wherein you all learned that I work at The Onion in some capacity. For some of you, I'll probably be remembered as "The Onion" guy, and for others, I'll probably be remembered as "that guy who can't quite grow a beard." You're both right. I gave it my all, and good gravy are you guys some of the coolest and least creepiest group of people one could ever imagine considering you're a pack of strangers posting pictures of your beards on the Internet. Let's stay in touch, and my Chicago beards, let's meet up. I can't believe it's been four months. A lot has happened in these handful of weeks, a speck of dust in the long run of the earth's existence, and maybe I'll join in on Moustache May. Will I see you there? First of all, thanks to @carynorton for this most awesome portrait. It's simply stunning that he shot these the day of the bowling. It was fascinating just watching him get through everyone... exhausting in fact. For this, and much more... he's a legend. Obviously we all thank @Mackle for this whole thing and I'm sure he's tired of hearing it but he's a true legend!
I need to thank @johnatcollege for coming with me to Nashville. It would have been a longer trip without him and he makes me laugh so hard. On that note, I want to shout out to @rnnbrwn and Claire too. They are the most awesome couple around and anyone who had the chance to meet them know what I'm talking about. Still keeping with my trip to Nashville I want to give a special thanks to @Ben (and his lovely wife Jess for lending him to us). He picked us up at the airport, drove us all around town and took us to not just Lynchberg but also Kentucky. John and I really owe our holiday to you - but not just for showing us around, no sir, for being fun... I mean, this guy is hilarious. I've not laughed so much in all my life (and I'm sure John feels the same). @Ben is the greatest and we both consider him a great friend... a friend for life. I think it's great too that @Maggie made it out to Nashville for the Throwdown and I think you'll all agree she's something else!
I could mention almost everyone on the site here for being awesome but instead I will name a very short few (which I feel weird doing as there were so many great people) but I need to thank @OzzyNelson for my homebrew breakfast at his place and for teaching me to speak southern. I loved meeting @Dschonn and discussing linguistics and such things. I hope you get to school in Germany and somehow find your way over to visit us here in Glasgow. Also, @JamesC - who is in fact not a complete dick afterall but the sweetest gentlemen you could ever hope to meet. Emma and I shall wear our Boise State t-shirts with pride and hope you feel part of the scottish tartan army just the same.
On top of this... thanks to everyone... you made me come back every single day and post even though I was busy. Even though I had things that needed done and people who demanded my attention. You made me love Whiskerino last time and this time and I hope to see a great deal of you again in Moustache May.

I wanted to thank @mackle, and everyone here for making this whole thing possible. Before this final chapter started, I had been watching the site for months, looking for information on when it was going to begin. I'll never forget on November 1st 2009 when I wanted to sign up for this year's whiskerino but I was on the other side of Michigan, and all I had was my blackberry and it was going to be a pain in the ass to do sign up that way. I figured that I could probably just wait until I got home to sign up, with no problem. I drove home, shaved clean for the first time in a long time, took a picture and tried to sign up, only to find out that registrations had closed. I seriously almost cried. Thankfully an email to @mackle secured my spot, and here I am now. I'm not really an online posting guy; I've always been more of a lurker, but if there's one regret I have it's that I didn't participate more in discussion and comments on this site. Written over the past couple of days as Whiskerino was coming to an end and a lot of drinking lol. My time here has been great even if I didn't participate as much as I would have wanted to this has been the best four months of my life, growing a beard, talking and meeting up with other people who were growing a beard, and seeing all the pictures posted on here every day has made the last four months one of greatest things I have ever taken part in. But sadly as they say all great things must come to an end and Whiskerino is no different, at some point it must end. As for my beard it will not end, not yet at least. For me the next eight months will be my real challenge, because I plan on keeping my beard until the next Whiskerino comes around and I feel if I can make it past the one year mark for not shaving then until Whiskerino comes around again will be easy. But even if Whiskerino does not come around again I will be shaving at least once more, because come November 1st of 2011 I want to shave again and do it all over again just to see how much more "better" of a beard I can grow without having shaved for almost two years. So to everyone at Whiskerino and to @Mackle for making this wonderful thing, my beard, my hair and myself say goodbye and so long and thanks for all the fish! I've written about ten drafts of this caption and have, ultimately, decided to go with my short and sweet version. Relatively short and sweet that is. First off, For the past 120 days I have been constantly floored and amazed at the greatness that you all are able to bring to the table. It's absolutely stunning. At the start of this I was scared that recreating the type of magic from the previous iterations would be lost in the shuffle of such a huge user base. I was dead wrong. This year was every bit as epic-ly mindblowing as 2005 and 2007, just with a twist and a style all its own. So, congratulations - you are totally awesome and the past 4 months have proven that without a doubt. Secondly, I have a challenge for you. With this being the end of Whiskerino there is some concern that these fantastic friendships that we've managed to wrangle together will fall by the wayside. To let such a thing happen would be a horrible disservice to the thing that we've made here. My challenge to you is to keep up with one another. Befriend each other on Facebook, join the Whiskerino group, make Flickr friends, follow each other on Twitter, hold mini-meetups in your area, go on vacation to other cities and share a taco with your brethren. Whiskerino can exist far beyond this website if you put in the effort. Lastly, and this is the emotional part, I want to extend an enormous Thank You. Thank You. Thank You. Thank You. Whiskerino is a community, through and through. It absolutely would not exist without each and every one of you doing all the amazing things you do every day. I think some of you assume I'm just being overly humble when I deny applause or shrug my shoulders at my moniker being chanted but it's not out of lack of appreciation - it's the fact that I'm just the architect here. I sketched the plans, you all built the house. Running Whiskerino without YOU would be a very sad and lonely website. So, once again, THANK YOU for everything. Thank you for the images. Thank you for the comments. Thank you for the chat. Thank you for the beers. Thank you for the tacos. Thank you for friendships. I can not express how mind boggling it is to me that this place has generated actual bonds between us all. I've never been on another website that is capable of such a thing. I am beyond proud of the legacy that we've created. We have truly created a Brotherhood (and Sisterhood) among us all. I hold you all with the greatest respect, appreciation and love for being a part of this with me. it was late in the night chris made his way home a terrible sight he saw on his roam murpy, his friend, lay still in the street he cried to his pal "Why didnt we meet just moments earlier so i could have stopped your fall before your beard and you dropped But just as his hope was nearly all gone he thought he saw some movement on the lip upon which a mustache could grow in a couple months, lets say May, i dunno. The twitches were sparse and maybe just nerves but he said to himself "My friend deserves a fighting chance" so he called in some aid and picked up murpy lou from where he had laid And the story it seems hangs on a cliff it may be the end but it might not be if we gather in may and show off our hair that grows on our lip hope to see you all there (This has been a great four months and one that i will never forget. i regret not being able to meet any of you at the throwdown but i hope my pictures gave you as much joy as yours gave mine. I'm not entirely sure how to sum up the past couple years of all of this, but I'll say obviously: much thanks to @Mackle. You've managed to not only make a website entirely devoted to strangers growing beards not be creepy, but actually an incredibly meaningful part of a lot of people's lives. When I started this, I was a goof in college, right off freshman year. I'm now working in NYC and married. 6 years went by pretty quickly. I hope something is bound to come up in the next few years to reunite this weird group of interweb guys, but if not: it's been great getting to know as many of you as possible, and I hope to stay in touch.

We love the opportunity to documents and share in the lives of so many people, most of whom would otherwise have remained strangers. Goodbye Whiskerino, I'll miss you all. I've just accepted three roles in a production of William Shakespeare's /A Comedy of Errors/, to be performed the first three weekends in May--the reason the director asked me to play three parts is because he's excited about using wax to reshape my moustache in a different way for each part. The whole play is about confusion of identities and pairs of identical twins being confused with each other, so my parts will just be one more iteration of that dynamic. I mention it here mainly as a way of saying that this is not goodbye, merely so long. I will see y'all in May for the Running of the Moustaches. Big thanks to Mackle for putting this whole biannual exercise in silliness together. It's a really magical thing that all of us guys could come together in his world and make something so special. It has meant a great deal to me these last five and a half years.

After four months of unadulterated growth, no trimming or shaping of any kind, not just of the face but also of the head, this journey has come to an end. (See how it started) My sadness is more than offset by my lovely wife's joy. I wasn't expecting to trim for today's goodbye photo, but I've enjoyed all the new looks today. And I wanted to show you all that I don't always look like a troll or a hobo. I also wanted to show that I'm keeping it. Much love to @mackle for letting me in late, and keeping me in when I was oh so close to being shamed. This has been an unbelievable experience and I am in his debt. What a great first/last Whiskerino! Certainly appreciate the new commradery and online beardo peeps. Never would've even done this had @ty not talked me into it... so thanks brother! Whiskerino will always be a marker of some great and crazy things that have happened in the last 4 months... The car accident that nearly took my sister-in-law and only nephew, success with a few artists I produced breaking into the charts, the fallout with the label I worked for, my month of being unemployed, and now preparing to start a new gig tomorrow... Looking through the pics I've uploaded, it's nice to see these little reminders and the milestones created through Whiskerino. Thanks @Mackle for all the work you put into this... it'll be sorely missed and if, for whatever reason, you decide to bring it back, I'll be ready to grow and show come November of 2011! Adios!

Well, it's been a journey over calm waters and rough seas. I couldn't have done it without @abar paddling the whole time, @carynorton taking photos of the madness, and @kbone baking biscuits (and @ozzynelson reeling in the anchor). Goodbye from MU to you! I honestly did not know what I was getting into when I signed up for this crazy experience (experiment). I knew I could grow a beard, so I had that covered, but that was about it. It took me some time "get into" this whole experience, but I soon found the more I put into it the more meaningful it would be. And let me say, it has been memorable and truly unforgettable. I have been daily astounded by so much greatness each of you has brought to this site. This experience has for me been one of family and has strengthened that bond even tighter for the loved ones you see here. I thank them for their (mostly) happy participation! It has also been one of brotherhood. Even though I know few of you truly well in the usual sense, I do feel like I know you as you have shared yourself with me and have allowed me to share myself and my family with you over these last four months. @mackle, thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of this. since 2003 i have felt a part of something awesome and i am pretty sad that it is ending. i find it rather appropriate that when i went to take my picture today, the sky was dark, cloudy, grey and sunless leaving me FLARE!less on this last day. i did manage to have FLARE! in 62.5% of my photos with perfect attendance throughout. i will miss you all tremendously. the friends that i have made through this have been unexpected and wonderful. i hope our friendships continue and that you all live lives full of FLARE! for now i leave you with my full timelapse animation spanning 3 whiskerinos. there is a looping animation playing there to the right >> but the link is the higher-res video containing some music i chose to go with it which is appropriately from the film growin a beard. i hope you all enjoy it. i'll see you around the internets.

goodbye, dear friends. i found whiskerino two weeks after it started in 2007 and waited almost two years to participate. although i didn't participate as much or as completely as i would've liked, i loved every minute and enjoyed the relationships that were built. thanks for letting me bring by beauty along with me as well. as the czechs would say, "pa pa".

GOODBYE WHERE'S WALDO STYLE This is a gift for @noelix and @mackle and other's who always made where's waldo comments about my hat. I couldn't have gotten injured at a better time. This community has given me something else to do for the time being since I can't do my normal hobbies. Hope no one was really disappointed that @jamesc and I aren't ass holes in real life. If you were disappointed then piss off. You all will be missed. Hope I made you laugh at least once this past 4 months. And a big thanks to @mackle for being a great webmaster who actually takes suggestions from the site users. Posing for a @hale portrait. When I first heard the concept behind Whiskerino I though, "Amusing, but there's no way I could make it without shaving for FOUR months!" Yet, I couldn't help but checkout the site photos every few days. I even traveled to the '07 Throwdown as a non-grower, supporter (aka lurker). In the end, it was the people of Whiskerino that drew me to take the plunge and finally participate this time around. I'm sad to see Whiskerino end, but so glad I had the opportunity to participated. I consider myself many awesome friends richer. I found out about Whiskerino through following Yewknee after locating the site through a music website run by @robozo & Robbie Player. @Mackle wrote for it and I was automatically smitten with his tastes. Once the Beard Contest came about I automatically joined and loved it. I didn't have a digital camera so all my pictures were taken with a polaroid and scanned in for immediacy. It was insanely pricey but 100% worth it. I made life long friends in @hale, @chadpugh, @mackle and countless others. I've taken trips with these guys, visited them, been visited by them. We've shared laughs and personal moments, basically they and all of you guys, really, have become friends. The strength of this final throwdown is a testament to this fact. With that said, thanks Michael for provided a venue for us to embrace our creativity and to share our lives with each other. There will never be anything like it and it will always be a part of my 20's. I'm proud to say that.

A few years from now, I'm sure the day will come when my future son or daughter will ask for hot chocolate in the mug with the dog on it. I'll pull the mug out of the cupboard, set it on the counter, and start getting the milk. Perhaps they'll ask where it came from, and I'll say Nashville. Being the smart kid they are, the next question is what brought you to Nashville? So we'll go over to the holo-projector (or whatever it is we'll have to show web pages) and I'll see if this site is still up and running. While it remains to be seen if the remnants of Whiskerino 2009 are the first time they see me with a beard, it's comforting to know that they'll at least have the opportunity to glance into such a complete representation of my past. Thanks to all who commented and encouraged me through the past four months, and a special thanks to @zooky for not only being my 'smart tripod' but for telling me about this awesome experience in the first place. Had some creative ideas for my last shot but @FerociousCupcake isn't feeling well and sometimes simplicity is best. Whiskerino has been in my life at the times I needed it most. In '05 I had just broken up with Amanda for a brief time. It gave me something to do and kept my mind off of the situation In '07 I was finishing college and we got engaged. Whiskerino was my much needed stress relief. This Whiskerino was undoubtedly different due to the fact that it was the final year and that some of the anchors of years past left our numbers early. It was the first year I made it to the Throwdown. We greatly appreciated the friendship and kind words that were spoken by all we met. Thanks to each and every one of you that has affected our lives in one way or another. @mackle words cannot express how thankful I am at your creation and curating of this unbelievable phenomenon. Guys, I've got to work the late shift at the video store tonight. Want to make sure I post before the day gets away from me. I was a new participant in Whiskerino this year, and you all could not have been more welcoming. When I first signed up I was certain that I would post and comment everyday, and also that I would attend this "throwdown" of which I'd heard tell. But you know what the man said about best laid plans, and a crazy work schedule and a newly released book have really scrambled mine. Still, I've enjoyed every minute of it. With the exception of @phil (and @blastro, of course), I've never met any of you in real life, but I feel I've gotten to know you over these past four months. I will miss hearing your voices. Do me a favor: I am the editor of an independent magazine called Makeout Creek. We publish fiction, poetry, nonfiction, art and photography. Many of you are obviously artists and photographers, and hopefully some of you are writers as well. I'm currently at work on our fourth issue, and of course there will be more issues in the future. So send me your stuff. It will be an honor to have the chance to perpetuate Whiskerino and its participants in any way I can. Thanks to all of you for allowing me to participate. Farewell. rarely do i get myself emotionally invested in anything of this sort, but whiskerino is different. i think thats why i enjoyed it so much. its so much more than just the beard, from the guy who gets king beard that day to the lowest of the low in the hall of shame, this is the one space on the internet that you can get guys of all types and all walks of life in one place and have them be who they are meant to be: men. and with rad beards to boot. saying goodbye to this place that i love is becoming really difficult right now but all good things must come to an end. i will miss each and every one of you because you all make whiskerino what it is. so until our paths cross once more, goodbye and God bless.

These are the results of 120 days without touching a hair of my head. (You can check the mid progress here) I'm not good at saying goodbye, and I'm even worse at saying it in English... Anyway, Whiskerino has exceeded by far all my expectations. It has been a constant fun these four months... and also a challenge for creativity and photographic skills. The good vibe going on in Whiskerino has been awesome. My only regrets are missing the previous editions and not being able to attend to the throwdown. @mackle, thank you very much for creating this "beard contest". Not only it is an excellent site, but you are a very nice guy and an excellent, supportive and helpful curator. Also, I must thank a lot of my close persons (wife, family, friends, work colleagues) who have been helping me a lot during this. Yes, Bodie, Whiskerino is really over. And yes, the cats are going away, too. Okay, you can go get your ball! __________________________ No one would accuse me of being an overly emotional or sentimental guy, but when I started reading these final farewells, I got a little choked up. So no remote location for the beauty shot or attempt at a complicated setup, just Bodie and me here to say goodbye. This has been an amazing experience! I thank each and every one of you for the brilliant photos and the funny and supportive comments. But most of all, I thank you for helping to create and maintain this community over the past 4 months. I feel privileged to have been able to share in your joys and heartaches during this time. I wish you all the best as you are truly wonderful people. A special thanks to @Mackle and his crew for creating this event and keeping it running. You really have made something special in this event and you deserve praise and admiration for that. I never dreamed that flying half way across the country to meet a bunch of people I only knew online could be so much fun or so rewarding. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. Thanks for letting me be a part of this whole experience. If ever you decide to resurrect this event, I hope I can be part of it. Would it be over the top and cheesy to say this has to be one of the greatest experiences of my life? I don't care. It really has been. My journey began in 2007. I missed the registration period but I grew anyway, watching from the sidelines. I almost missed registration (a million thanks to @mackle for giving me the back way in) so I was determined not to take a second of Whiskerino '09 for granted. My goal was to post every day (check), participate in every theme day (check), comment as much as possible (sorta check) and get the full experience (check). I thought it would be a fun way to get back into photography, a passion I had as a younger man but had fallen by the wayside. I had no idea what my Whiskerino experience would turn into. It's hard to put into words but Whiskerino to me is about sharing the bonds, friendships we all make with mostly complete strangers through creativity and expressions of our daily lives. We grow and show but he also share and make REAL connections. The beard is our catalyst, a vehicle that brings us all together. As @Ozzynelson put it, "I'll just say that there is something in the male DNA that bonds him with brothers who are going through the beard growing and showing experience." It's amazing how comfortable I felt sharing so much of my life with all of you. In four months, I lost my grandmother and a good friend to suicide and just recently, my relationship. All the while, I took solace and comfort in your words to me and looking at all of your pictures and captions. I consider each and every one of you a brother. Anyway, enough sappiness. Suffice it to say, it's been an amazing experience. I love you guys and I'm going to miss it here greatly. I'm not going to shave. I always do a half-yeard every winter so the beard stays until at least May. No Mustache May for me-- I look atrociously bad in a mustache. I'm going to *try* for the yeard. I might join the flickr group but I'm kind of looking forward to taking a break from photographing myself everyday. I essentially disappeared for four months and I would like to get back in touch with my friends and my music. I cannot thank Michael Eades-- @Mackle-- enough. This thing he created is wonderful and the work he put into it is astounding. Thank you, Michael. You are a great man (somebody KING that man). And so are all of you. Please feel free to contact me. I have remained forever strong except for a short period during month 3, but this is it. I feel bad for not having stronger ties with all of you prior to the Throwdown. After that weekend, I was sad to know there was only one week left. Many of you will forever leave a lasting impression on myself, and my girlfriend. She is leaving for another week early tomorrow morning, so I gave her a parting gift, my shaven face for the day. She knows that when she returns, so will have the many hairs that adorn my face. I always have been, and will always remain a beard. Thank you again to @mackle. And a very special thanks to @DirtyPirate for bestowing the gift that is Whiskerino that fateful day in November, two years ago. Over three years ago I was shown this site by my best friend Josh and I was hooked. On November 1st I tried to sign up but it was already full. After waiting so long to do this, it was such a horrible feeling. I wrote/begged @mackle to let me on and he graciously allowed me to join. So for all of this I want to thank @mackle for letting in. This experience has been everything I hoped it would be and more. Thanks for the hours you've poured into this and for the care and respect you've shown all of us. Hopefully one day I can tell you this in person. I also want to thank you all for causing this to be almost an obsession for me. I started the first month with eight pictures and by the end would feel guily if I missed a day. To be honest I'm kind of glad it's over because now I feel like I can have a life again. hehehe. Thanks again to everyone, I'll never forget this experience.

This is it, friends. It feels like yesterday I had this crazy idea to join an online beard growing community with my roommates even though I'd never had a beard in my life. I didn't even know if I could grow a beard. A few weeks in, when it became obvious I would never get a beard, I said to myself "I will make up for my lack of growth by taking 120 photographs that I can be proud of" and here at the end, I'd like to think that I can say I did that. This experience has truly been amazing. I could have never guessed I would meet so many amazing and talented people all the while growing and improving as a photographer. I've enjoyed the creative challenge and bearded camaraderie. I just want to thank @mackle for setting up this wonderful, albeit weird, community and all your hard work. I will talk about this the rest of my life. @wondermade - I believe you were my first "follower" and you've stuck with me these four months with nothing but encouragement. You're the best. @jnonfiction - I cannot thank you enough for your encouragement very early on. Your cutout of me is easily one of my highlights. You are a good man @mattyc - THANK YOU for your multiple attempts to get me a king and just being awesome. Having you clamebute me was the highest of honors. @gavin probably won't see this but thank you for just being a cool guy. It was great meeting you and hanging out a few times. Team Kutztown would have been weaker without you. And of course, @yogibeard, @birchbeard, and @ogmanlybeard - thank you for joining me on this strange endeavor and your encouragement in my lack of growth. We are better friends because of Whiskerino. A Bearded Goodbye Dear Brothers, This has been an amazing time in my life. Things have not always been the best in my personal life: I am not currently employed, and the creative well often runs dry. I often spend my time traveling, and I am never truly certain where I will lay my head or what I will lay it on. The only constant I have had in my life these past four months has been Whiskerino. Allow me to explain. I was a network, database, and systems administrator for a company, but when I moved to a new job over a year ago, I lost it in these hard economic times. Since then, it has been impossible to find a job for one such as I. The economy hurts IT infrastructure positions more than any other IT category. This led me to try my hand in other things. One of these things is writing. I try to write every single day, and I have been successful since I started. It's hard work, and the creativity is not easy to come by. My work is often bad, but that is necessary to find the gems. Just keep on truckin', as they say in the place where they say things. I was turned on to Moustache May in 2005, but I did not participate until May of '07. With an always-volatile job situation, it is difficult to find a place willing to hire someone with a pervy little moustache (which is all I was capable of back in those days). Since Moustache May of '07, I learned that I can grow facial face. I can grow it well and have had a beard most of the time since then. I was unable to participate in Whiskerino '07, but I did try to turn others onto the phenomenon. I even succeeded once. A few of y'all might remember him. He even started this season with me, but was unable to finish. Work, and such. I attended the Throwdown in '08, and I had been waiting for my true shot ever since. Flash forward to October of '09. I had been waiting for my chance to shine for two years, now. Sadly, I didn't shine very brightly, but luckily, my talents lie elsewhere. The well runs very dry most days, and it's hard to refill before it's time to write again. And OH CRAP! I need to take a picture! I don't want to miss it! I'm gonna get perfect attendance! Oh...sadness, I missed it...well, I'm not gonna miss anymore. What? Two more days!? That's preposterous! No excuses. None at all. I look at most of your pictures, and have trouble wrapping my mind around how you guys conceive most of your ideas. You play? I don't understand playing with a camera. Words, yes. Images, no. I truly feel blessed to have been a part of this, and I know that while words cannot fully express this, it's good to try. I would say that I wish I had participated more, but I did what I could. There's no shame in that. Meeting everyone I met at the Throwdown...I've said what I need to say. If you met me, you know who you are. I hope we can all keep in touch. I say to you all, "Keep creating." This is one of the most talented group of people I have ever met. This is time well-spent. As we move into a new day, a day without Whiskerino, keep that spark of hope alive. Beards, you shall be missed.

The End Is the Beginning Is the End Seemed only fitting to go full circle and finish this like I started. Same pose, but everything has changed. Thanks to everyone who made this what it is. It's awesome keeping up with the stories and the themes, and just getting glimpses into everyone's lives. Seeing everyone at the Throwdown was superb, that was really the high point of this for me. The big beard... trimming will come soon, you will be missed. Whiskerino was both a great success and failure for me. I had been looking forward to participating for the past two years; and everyone that knew me, knew so. I almost missed getting invited to the competition, but @mackle allowed me in late. Thank you. Sadly I had several local friends that were not so fortunate. So alone I stood, the sole beard grower in Saskatoon. I'm sorry I wasn't more active in the community; time wouldn't allow for it. I'm sorry I missed the windup party; I really couldn't afford it. It is unfortunate. Thank you for allowing me to participate; it was a pleasure to see all the great talent. Thank you everyone for being so awesome. You are all an inspiration to my life and my photography. I hope to cross paths with some of you in the future and share a pint or two. My beard will stay (in one form or another) for some time (I hope). It is strong; it will give me strength.

Day one, slight return. I signed up early on to do the yeard. I’ll need to go over there and resign from that, because yearding is not in the cards for me. I don’t want to get all drawn out and sloppy. We all know how awesome Whiskerino is and how it has improved each of our lives. Whiskerino is definitely greater than the sum of its parts and everybody who is involved has contributed to making it what it is. I do, however, want to give special thanks to @SoulGlo1976, @JohnnyRebellious, @Julialikesbeards, @RolfBastard, @Sariebell and @ThatGuy for all of the very, very kind words they have had for me during this thing. You are fantastic human beings and I intend very much to hang with each of you again in the future. This baby has a long story behind it, and no, I'm not talking about my beard. Whiskerino, you truly have been a great blessing to me. If ever I was feeling down, I know I could come here and look at all the magnificent beards here. This is my second Whiskerino, my first one to complete. Even though Mackle won't be here to lead us anymore, I hope someone might step up and start something new. I guess we'll see. This has been great. I think I'm gonna trim the moustache and the rest a bit, but keep a full yet restrained hobo beard for awhile. When I retire, though, I think I'll also retire the razor and trimmer. Thanks to the awesome @mackle for all the work that went into this. My participation level was not what I thought it would be; I met the person who filled my heart in 2008, and we got married in May 2009. As a result, I've been having such a good time with married life that I didn't get to visit with and know as many of you as I'd have liked. But there wasn't a day that I didn't pull up the site and check out some of the amazing talent and BEARDS on display! Thanks, and best of luck to you all.

At the Throwdown we met @jason, a super cool whiskerdude. He and @sariebell discussed at length their love for sweat sandwiches, aka Krystal's (White Castles can qualify if that's your thing), and how many they thought they could eat. @sariebell confidently said "20". @jason replied, "No way". @sariebell ate 20 (@tedford gave up at 15). @sariebell wins. Doesn't she always. I sincerely want to thank @mackle for all the hard work he's put into this, and @everyone for all the work they've put into making this a true community, and more than just a site about growing beards. It's been amazing meeting so many of you and I can honestly say I've formed lasting friendships. I don't want to say a long goodbye as I expect to be seeing many of you again, or at least keeping up with your exploits in other internet lands. So I'll just go with a nod and a TTFN. So what did we learn from all this? 1.( SKELLO WINS ) We need villains . Not only do they give us a sense of right and wrong but sometimes their own evil curiosity helps us complete stories. ( and puzzles) 2.( BURNEY'S death ) Don't get too attached to things or people. Love them, appreciate them. root for them. But one day just like that they can be taken from you with the toss of an axe and you have to be ready to move on. 3.( the incomplete puzzle ) It's never over. Only under any circumstances you have to keep going. 4.( Long live things like the pip ) It's not the art of the contest, It's the art in the contest. 5. and finally Everyone is a king. ( Michael taught us that ) Happy Trails Beards. I enjoy calling some of you old friends and some new friends. Hope we see each other again soon. I'm sorry, I must insist this cannot be the end of the end. Sometimes I insist on things, even when I know that I am wrong. @Mackle, et al... one and all... you've all made this quite an enjoyable experience, one worthy of my full participation. It is with much regret that I did not rise to the occasion to participate fully after Xmas. My life has been hectic, filled with moving to the new house, taking a promotion at work, broken cars in my driveway and garage, drama of my father being swindled of all his money and stranded in Thailand. And more than enough beyond that to keep my mind away from reminding myself to post daily, or honestly caring enough to do so. I wish I'd had the chance to go to the TD, it appears to have been epic from the stories I've heard, the photos I've seen, and I'm sure I would have enjoyed if I had the time and ability to go. I always intended to go from the start... but could not make it. I'd be damned if I'd give up on my commitment to Whiskerino though. In these last few weeks, I really wanted to trim some here and there, but well, I refuse to allow myself, because my untrimmed beard was the one last thing I had to contribute to Whiskerino, even if I couldn't show it as often. I guess what I'm trying to say is... So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Forget Octobeard. These past four months has been the most creatively inspiring time of my life. I wasn't sure what I was getting into when I registered, and didn't know anyone involved. It ended up being something completely unique. I'm so glad I've had the opportunity to spend a third of a year with you fine gentlemen (and a few ladies) and wouldn't trade it for anything. I've made some strong bonds and real friends through this crazy beard-growing/photography contest. Let's stay in touch. Bringing it full circle. This experience has been tons of fun. I’ve been eager to join the ranks of Whiskerino since I stumbled upon the contest in 2005, and am glad I was able to slip in here for the last event. I was really too busy to comment much (as was shamefully obvious from my stats) but it was great to be able to spend some time each day really enjoying some rad photography and general creative drive. I also fulfilled my three major Whiskerino goals: - 100% participation (even though there was that one evening in there where uploading wasn’t working and I had to wake myself up at 1:40 am CT to try one more time. Phew.) - Completed my trilogy of Whiskerino T-shirts. This year’s shirt is already in steady rotation. - Successfully used the term “clame†without being too bothered by where the “my†fits into the whole equation. “Click MY Name†= CLAME? I am sad for the MY. How do I start this… I mean, what can I say? This has been one of the best experiences I have ever had. I was chatting with a friend (Webelrino from 2005) and we were talking about how so many people will not understand what this means to us, what it means to accomplish something that takes four months, something that changes you in every which way. It’s a great thing. What if everyone experienced a community like ours? Having each other encourage one another to do something great everyday. I will leave Whiskerino with sadness. I have not been looking forward to this day. Here I am exiting something I have been committed to for four months, it doesn’t feel right. But, it must come to an end. So with that, I want to thank everyone on here who has encouraged me to do better and be better. I have received much advice about being a father, since that is coming up in my life. @KimJongIllness and @MatthewMoore, thank you. @Mackle, I don’t know how you came up with something so great, but thank you for doing so. You have brought many brothers together to grow and show. You’re a good man, and the most humble man I think I’ve ever met. Many people look up to that. Have fun rockin’ Nashville. Men, It has been amazing growing and showing with you for the past four months. The strong that survived have passed through the gauntlet we call Whiskerino. There are no words that can describe an ending to a brotherhood bonding such as this. You guys have taken incredible pictures and proved that photography has no limits. What I've learned from Whiskerino: - I can, in fact, grow a beard that I am reasonably proud of - I am more creative than I give myself credit - I took much fewer "perfect attendance" shots than I thought I would - Don't explain Whiskerino as a beard contest, it just makes people ask "What's the prize?" - One can make legitimate friends (and be very sad about not seeing them) through an internet beard contest - You can get choked up while shaving - I WILL make an honest effort to meet as many of you as possible in person Seriously, you guys are the best. I always believe it's all in the details! It's been a pleasure sharing a complete year of my life with some great guys. I started in 2005 and I had no idea how much of an impact Whiskerino would make on my life, personally and professionally. I think many guys on here can say the same. I hope to keep in touch with those of you who I've come in contact with and if I never talked to you on Whiskerino, I apologize for not playing a larger role this year. I'm amazed at the community Whiskerino has spawned and I hope that we as men can carry over this experience in other aspects of our lives, with other friends, out families and other inner circle communities. To my deer friends of WHISKERINO... I happy to say that I have found another interest to occupy my time. This individual is also into growing hair, doesn't mind all the hair, and makes a mean microbrew. He has a unibrow, but I am not about superficial appearances, I'm into the depth of one's soul, the firmness of one's hooves... er.... Dear Everybeard, This has been an awesome, creative, stressful, awesome 4 months. It has been a pleasure growing and showing with you. I have made a lot of new friends, even though I didn't get to meet a lot of you in person. This has been an awesome experience. For my final picture I chose to do another forced perspective shot, since that was my favorite theme. It was by far the most time consuming, and it still didn't turn out just right. It's harder to fake an alien tractor beam than one might think. I am mostly pleased with the results, even though it's not what I had originally imagined. I couldn't have taken this photo without the help of Courtney. She wanted me to tell you all that she's going to miss your daily pictures. What an awesome journey this has been. I found out about whiskerino just after 2005 had ended, and I was one of the first to sign up when 2007 began. What Mackle has done with this community is astounding. For me, whiskerino was the first place anywhere on the internet, that made the web feel real and personal. I have met so many new and amazing friends from around the world, and even in my own town, thanks to this site. I don't think there has ever been so many awesome and inspirational people all pulled into one place like there is here. Thanks for letting me grow my beard with you guys, and my door is always open! Sadly, it's time for the beard to disappear. It's hard for me to sum up how important this community has been to me. It's one of my great regrets that, while I was able to make perfect attendance, I was not able to comment, chat, and participate in the community fully - often because my Whiskerinoing was limited to surfing the site on the go. It was so great to meet many of you at the Throwdown, no matter how briefly. And I hope that our paths cross again during Moustache May - or whenever life decides they should. Whiskerino is about community, about brotherhood in a way. I think we all know and understand that. Last night, I had the wonderful opportunity to see Waterdeep play an acoustic show for their hardcore fans in Nashville. I knew the photo that I wanted for the final shot for Whiskerino: my friend John, who got me the ticket; me; and Don Chaffer of Waterdeep. John told Don about it, and he agreed to do it immediately. I think you'll agree that three bearded guys hugging each other at midnight after sharing a great and emotional night of music is a good reflection on Whiskerino. Speaking of community, I have registered Whiskeroonis.net. I'm going to build that to aggregate Flickr, Vimeo, Twitter, blogs, etc. into one way for us to keep up with each other. We'll leverage the Google Docs spreadsheet that @michaeljstraub has put together. That, and I've followed every Whiskerooni on the Twitter now. Well, guys its been fun. Real fun! It is sad tat this is my first Whiskerino, and possibly the last (Please, no @Mackle). I remember missing the deadline for the 2007 Whiskerino by days. I was first introduced to this wonderful even through @gfmorris, @knoxandy, @jat, and @jar - Guys your beards are a literal inspiration for me! I have been stoked for this for two years! And now that its over, I will always have a longing to do it again, to participate in this honorable community again... They decided that this was the last time they would gather. No more drinking games at 4am. No more kitten tag. No more epic battles with the unseen forces of nature and science. No more robots waking them up late at night to use the toilet. No more secret breakfasts at The Invisible Brontosaurus. They talked through plans to sell The Great Dance in the Sky Forever Cakes to a merchant they met at the farmer's market. It felt like the right thing to do. There were some hugs and some tears. They drank a tea-like substance and then divvied the money they had made after they sold the unicorn ranch. They all agreed that they desperately missed the unicorns and the muffins they would make for them on Sunday mornings. After several moments of silence, they began leaving, one by one, until only one was left. He shut off the light and went to bed. Lying there in the dark, he mouthed the words "goodbye" to no one in particular. Outside, the crickets huddled around a tiny fire, trying to keep warm. One of them had purchased mini marshmallows for smores.

Day 1 That was lots of fun. I reached my goals of getting a King Beard and posting every day. I met a lot of great people and saw a lot of great photos. Thanks @Mackle for creating this crazy site. Thanks to everybody that ever king'd, fav'd, and commented on my pictures. I'll be baby-faced by March 5th, because I have a job interview for a promotion with Whole Foods. Well Gentlemen, it has been a complete honor and privilege to share these last 120 days with you as we've grown and shown our beards together. I've enjoyed every minute of it, and although I was unable to attend the throwdown, I do feel like I've gotten to know some of you rather well. I thought it would be appropriate to say thanks to some people...but before I begin a big shout out to #team-renaud for welcoming me with open arms and being the most kickass team of all Whiskerino. Thanks to @jnonfiction for first introducing me to Whiskerino two years ago. Seeing the creativity and community was something I longed to be a part of, and thankfully was able to with this one. This is my last shot, and I wanted to do something special, so I created a photo mosaic of all the shots I've done for Whiskerino. I accomplished something doing this which is important for me, I set out to do something, and I stuck with it 100% for 4 months, I completed it, I finished. I have a problem finishing what I start, and this has been a wonderful experience for me, I want to say thank you to everyone who's made this a great experience, and a special thank you to Mackle for allowing me to be a part of it. Here in Korea, today is 대보름 or 大보름(Daeboreum - First full moon of the Lunar New Year). Traditionally, farmers would burn their fields to destroy unwanted plants and fertilize the ground. Celebrations abound in order to wish for good health in the New Year. I find this fitting since this celebration corresponds to the final day of Whiskerino. In the background of this photo, you can see an improvisation of the field burning celebration (this is my guess anyway). As I watch the bonfire commence tonight, I wish you all the best in the New Year (whichever one you follow). It has been a great ride. 안녕 (goodbye) -C

when I was 14 I asked my mom permission to grow my hair out long with the rationale that I would soon be old and responsible and wouldn't have the opportunity to have long hair again..... Then came the dreads in college, and now I am 32 years old dying my hair orange with henna. To be honest I had hoped for more of a fire orange look, but i'm happy with the results.

So long, and thanks for all the beards. Fellow bearded, I must bow out of the competition. For those of you who don't know, I am currently living with -- and dying of -- stage IV colon cancer. I have been asked to share my story on how cancer has affected my faith in and my relationship with God. The story will be told via video to over 10,000 people next week and countless more on the web after that. I am humbled and flattered to be given this opportunity. As such, I want to make this a clear and distraction-free exposition of my thoughts; having a giant beard may not be considered distraction-free. Secondly, my lovely wife is yearning to see my lips and cheeks again. The missus' kisses are far more valuable to me than this contest. But please do not think I am abandoning the beard. The beginning of Whiskerino was the first time I had shaved clean in over eight years. I am a bearded man and will keep my beard (albeit slightly more trimmed) for the rest of my life. And please do not think I am abandoning you all. I have not participated as much as I could have, but I have made some new friends and I appreciate that.
