I went to Seattle a few months ago with my friend Todd to pick our friend Claire up from the bus station. We talked the whole way there and back about life, God and music, and a playlist naturally came out of the day trip. It helped that after we found out a snow storm stopped Claire from getting to the city, we spent a good deal of time in a record store and I bought some new tunes. Here’s a taste of what we showed each other, with a little northwest flavour peppered in.

1. LCD Soundsystem: Dance Yrself Clean (Is This Happening)

2. No Age: Glitter (Everything in Between)

3. Pogo: Alice (Wonderland)

4. Teen Daze: Something (Digital “7 No. 2 – Together b/w Something)

5. Ray Charles: Drown In My Own Tears (Ray Charles)

6. Okkervil River: Unless It’s Kicks (The Stage Names)

7. Arcade Fire: Empty Room (The Suburbs)

8. Fleet Foxes: Tiger Mountain Peasant Song (Fleet Foxes)

9. Mavis Staples: Creep Along Moses (You Are Not Alone)

10. Bo Diddley: Who Do You Love (Bo Diddley)

11. Sufjan Stevens: I Walked (Age Of Adz)

12. Radiohead: I Might Be Wrong (Amnesiac)

13. The National: Afraid Of Everyone (High Violet)

14. The Microphones: Headless Horseman (The Glow Pt. 2)

15. Grizzly Bear: On A Neck, On A Spit (Yellow House)

16. James Blake: Wilhelms Scream (James Blake)

17. Edith Piaf: Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien (Éternelle)

My friend Allison left us part way through December for her country of origin, namely, America. More specifically, she is now in Veil Colorado, teaching beginners how to ski. I decided to combine a few things here; a bit of Christmas and winter themes, a few songs relating to Colorado, and pictures that will hopefully help make Allison come back to Squamish. Hope you enjoy. Merry Christmas.

In August I went on a trip with my brother Nick, Nathan Moes, Conrad Dykman, Jordan Klassen, Jocelyn Price, Katy Postlethwaite, and Josh Daignault. We drove from Abbotsford and Squamish to Winnipeg, playing music for people in the evenings while hitting the road by day. Throughout the three weeks we travelled, we became like a short-lived family. These people became very much like brothers and sisters to me. People from across the country showed us hospitality like I had never seen before, and the beauty of the land made me stand in awe of God. The trip goes in the books as one of the greatest experiences of my life.

fences/prairies showcases a few songs that helped me keep this experience in the front of my mind throughout the last months. A couple of them we played for people (“For Jessica,” “Take A Trip”), one of them was written and performed by another musician we met along the way (Andy Shauf’s “In Town,”) and still others are examples of the music we listened, bought, and shared with each other on the road.

Here is the playlist:

1. Jordan Klassen/For Jessica/St. Brigid EP

2. The National/Sorrow/High Violet

3. Shad/Rose Garden/Tsol

5. David Bazan/Please, Baby, Please/Curse Your Branches

6. Yo La Tengo/Avalon Or Someone Very Similar/Popular Songs
