Some Whitchurch Arts members are travelling east this Bank Holiday weekend to visit the annual Overton Art Group exhibition.

The show runs each day this weekend, from 10am to 6pm in the Overton Recreation Centre on Bridge Street.

Admission is free.

Our second annual Arty Gregarious Maelstrom, or is it Annual General Meeting?, for Whitchurch Arts is to be held at the White Hart on Wednesday, 15 September at 7:43pm (yes, 7:43pm). Come earlier to mingle and enjoy a drink and snack.

There will be a look-back at the numerous events we’ve held in town over the past year and a chance for local residents and artists, like you, to help decide the sorts of things we’ll put on over the coming year.

Members of Whitchurch Arts are welcome to put forward motions – please contact us with your proposal so that it can be included in the agenda…

Lauren Ashwell was runner-up in the 14-19 age group for her painting called ‘Strength in Nature‘.

Whitchurch Arts congratulates both Whitchurch winners for their fine achievements and doin’ the town proud on a national stage.

• Rob M pointed out that the Methodist Church is having a ‘Harvest of Talent’ creativity show in September – he will contact them to see what involvement Whitchurch Arts members can have
• During this mention of the church by Rob, he said, “I’m not a churchgoer, I must confess” – which made us all have a good chuckle
• John B stressed the importance of planning and executing shows and events well; then he mentioned an upcoming event around Christmas
• Graham B discussed his idea of pub life art (capturing and celebrating the goings on in modern day pubs…for fear that this part of UK culture is disappearing), with possible tie-in to John’s Christmas event
• Andrew RH had an idea for bollards which he shared with the members
• Steve M also had an idea for something to help with safety and attention during bollard painting (given that he has painted several, including another one just underway)
• Our next major show is being organised by Jude for October, who is away on holidays at the moment – members are encouraged to create new pieces for display
• Our AGM is next month – to be held in the White Hart on Wednesday, September 15 2010
